What You Need

Rate this book
When Dylan revealed his fantasy of getting to watch his husband be with another man, he never thought it would go past dirty talk. But when Oliver suggested finding a participant to play out the fantasy in real life, there was no way he could say no.

Leon was sexy, dominant, and knew how to take care of Oliver. He was exactly what Dylan and Oliver needed in their sex life. Their compatibility outside of the bedroom was a surprise, but the more time they spent together, the harder it was to imagine their lives without Leon.

Their relationship was changing as Dylan watched his husband fall in love with someone else. And while he wasn’t looking, he had started to fall for Leon, as well. It was terrifying. Was what Leon brought to their relationship worth the risk?

What You Need is a high-spice MMM romance with a happily ever after for all three men.

“Come here,” Leon said [...] “Face your husband so he can watch me take you apart.”

Dylan and Oliver have been together since high school, and only been with each other. When Dylan reveals his fantasy of watching Oliver with another man, they meet Leon and explore their fantasies together as a trio.
“You’re my wet dream incarnate.” Leon sat back on his heels between Dylan’s spread thighs, his fingers tracing shivery lines from his thighs to his shins and back up. “Soft, sweet Oliver and his husband with a little edge. An angel and a devil."

I went into the book with a very open mind. I enjoy reading MMM+ romance, I don't have many triggers and a few of the things listed in the content warnings sounded really intriguing. The content of the book itself was a plus for me and I was excited to snag an ARC of What You Need. However, I struggled to finish the book because I actively disliked Oliver's character more and more as the book went on. Leon is such a sweetheart, and Dylan also seems like a decent person, but Ollie bugged me almost from the start. I tried not to let it affect my enjoyment of the book but his character irked me so much. I can see a lot of people enjoying this book (which I believe is a debut) if they focus on the writing and numerous smutty scenes, which were good.

In my opinion, the book is focused on relationship development over character development and that's why it felt a bit flat for me. The idea is that the cuckolding fantasy is Dylan's, and Ollie is willing to make it happen, but right from the start it feels like a shared fantasy that just happened to occur to Dylan first. Dylan and Leon both cater to Oliver throughout the book. I think the relationship between Leon and Dylan was quite interesting to read about, and I wish they'd gotten more 1:1 time together. I struggled not to skim the second half of the book because I wasn't invested in the relationship between Ollie and anyone by that point. But like I said the book is well edited and if you don't get the ick for one character I think there are other things to enjoy about the book.

I love sharing in romances and I love poly romances but although I could see the author’s efforts to make it right this overall felt unbalanced for me between the three of them. The connection between Leon und Dylan developed too late and his obsession with what felt like only for Oliver made Leon feel like an intruder into their marriage for too long even though they all consented to their arrangement and were all pretty happy with it. Still, for me, it felt off. Unbalanced, as I said.

“I’m looking for someone who can make my husband come. While I watch.”

When cucking turns into a triple love story.
When Dylan and Oliver decide to try out their cuckolding fantasy, I don’t think they expected to fall in love with Leon. But I mean, who wouldn’t fall for Leon — dominant, charming, caring, attentive — he’s the complete package. I love how he treated both men how they needed, covering Oliver with care and sweet words and bringing out Dylan’s more submissive side.

Leon had seen about a million things more objectively obscene, but having Oliver give him a “secret” blowjob beneath a blanket was… surprisingly hot.

It really was. Cuckolding doesn’t really appeal to me, but seeing how into it all three men were, how they communicated, the passion they shared, I can definitely say it was hot as fuck. Especially that ‘secret’ blowjob.

“Face your husband so he can watch me take you apart.”

What You Need was almost 200 pages of PWP, but I love when my smut comes with extra feelings. A sexy read with a sweet ending.

Side note: TIL it isn’t cuckHOLDING. You know, ‘cause they hold their cucks…man, I feel dumb, like Joey thinking the saying was moo point.

“God, sometimes when I’m around you two, I have to pinch myself.” “How are we different from going to the club?” “You’re my wet dream incarnate.”

I understand this book started as a poly V (where both guys were with one guy but not together), but that doesn’t explain how it still felt like a poly V when the book ended…

To start, you have Dylan and Oliver, a married couple. They have been with each other since high school but their bedroom life needs a little spicing. One of Dylan’s fantasies was to see Oliver be with another man, so needless to say they go to a sex club and find Leon, who is willing to give Oliver what he needs while Dylan watches.

Dylan and Oliver enjoyed the first encounter with Leon immensely, so they decide to continue visiting Leon at the sex club. Well, things progress and they start seeing each other outside of the club.

Leon and Oliver begin having feelings for each other (with Dylan’s knowledge of course) so they start seeing each other alone. At this point it is a poly V where Dylan/ Oliver are dating and Leon/ Oliver are dating but Dylan/ Leon are NOT dating. Dylan is okay with the budding relationship between Leon and Oliver, but he later starts to see Leon in a sexual light/ desire to progress things in the bedroom with Leon.

From the way it was described, Leon (before Dylan and him got together) didn’t feel anything for Dylan. Leon mainly just said “🤷‍♂️, okay I have some sexual attraction towards you, but you are mainly just the husband to the guy I am in love with.”

Even though Dylan and Leon had a few scenes of their private time (by this, I mean I only recall there being 1 or 2), I still felt 0 connection between them. Everything was about Oliver, and that’s totally okay. But why make this an MMM book where they are all together if it’s clear Leon favors Oliver? After Leon came into the picture, the relationship between Dylan and Oliver just.. died. There was one reconnecting sex scene between them, but other than that it felt bland.

95% of this book felt like Leon and Oliver’s relationship was being forced down my throat, and Dylan was just an afterthought. I’m glad Leon and Oliver had scenes about building their relationship, but where were the same amount of scenes for Leon and Dylan?

Why did it genuinely hurt my feelings when Leon and Oliver had sex “quietly” in the same bed next to Dylan while Dylan was sleeping? Maybe it was because Leon and Oliver made “love” instead of it just being sex. Why would you make genuine love to another man in the same bed as your husband while he’s sleeping? I understand this was a cuckold thing but there was ZERO reason for them to do that in the same bed as Dylan while he was sleeping..

What was supposed to be a fun MMM romance left me feeling sad for Dylan, the third wheel in his own marriage.

I know my review is kinda short, but someone has already wrote a review for this book that explains ALL of my feelings about it. I highly recommend this review : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Thank you so much to GRR for the digital ARC of this book!

Safety info:
• no virgins (Dylan and Oliver have only been with each other)
• Leon only does hookups/ causal sex. Seems to be a frequent visitor of the sex club to get laid
• no OW/OM- but this book has a cuckolding dynamic
• condoms (even for BJs) > no condoms (they got tested but there was never a mention of if they were clean.. oh well)
• top > vers > bottom (the vers and bottom switched a few times in their relationship in the past but very rarely)

“I’m going to put this in you and let you get used to it for a bit. Maybe we can watch a movie. Have a nice evening, while you’re nice and full. And then I’m going to fuck you until you can’t see straight and come deep in your ass. Then I’ll plug you up and take you home. You can bring Dylan your leftovers.”

This book had all the signs of being an amazing story, and it started really well, but as soon as Oliver and Leon started spending more time together it felt like Dylan was a spare part in their marriage even after Oliver said that their relationship and marriage was the most important thing.

I do not profess to being an expert but any means in poly relationships and I know every one is different and everyone has different needs, but it felt uncomfortable several times when it felt like Dylan was being completely sidelined (even with his kink of wanting to watch someone fuck his husband). The story focused on Leon and Oliver’s relationship, with Olive and Dylan having very little time together without Leon being there physically or them talking about him.

This was hot, sweet, super mega hiper filthy, super unrealistic and sometimes uncomfortable. I like my MMM romances with all the M in the picture, playing together and this one had some alone time and that made me itchy.

Oliver, Dylan and Leon burn hot together there’s no doubt, and what it started as something a bit strange for me, Dylan’s fetish, eventually evolved to something they shared together in a more balance way.in the end all the sex was with them together and that made horny happy🥵

You’re my wet dream incarnate.” Leon sat back on his heels between Dylan’s spread thighs, his fingers tracing shivery lines from his thighs to his shins and back up. “Soft, sweet Oliver and his husband with a little edge. An angel and a devil. I can’t even express how different it is being with you two than it is at the club. That’s all recreational. Fun, sure, but for someone unpartnered, you go and get an orgasm and go home. You two…you’re more than that.”

I honestly don’t know how I feel about this one. On one hand, I really adored Oliver and Leon but more often than not, I felt like their relationship took over the book and Oliver and Dylan’s marriage took a back burner and after they invited Leon in. I mean, they only had a single scene together that didn’t involve Leon, or talking about a third in the ENTIRE book.

I could see Oliver and Leon falling for each other as they went on multiple dates, spent the night at each others place and frequently “made love,” as Dylan called it, but I didn’t believe the love between Dylan and Leon at all. We see Oliver getting pampered, massaged, baths drawn, lovingly held and we see Dylan getting… well, honestly? Nothing. He’s gone more often than not, on trips for work so we have Leon and Oliver together. Even when they’re all together it’s still 99% Leon and Oliver having sex and private moments. Hell, when Oliver got fired it was Leon who was there to dry his tears and comfort him (Dylan was on a trip for work. Again).

Leon and Dylan rarely interacted together as a couple aside from Dylan watching Leon and Oliver together and they only spent a single evening together without Oliver. I get that poly relationships may not work the same for everyone, and some may have sex, while others don’t and only remain friends, but we’re being told that these two men fall in love but I just don’t see it. Where are their dates? Where are their scenes together? Where are the private smiles and their own moments?

Lastly, I’m sorry but the end of this book pissed me off with this paragraph:
“Fuck, I’m so close,” Oliver whined. He tossed his head back, and Dylan raked his gaze across the long expanse of his skin. His hand worked himself quickly, and as usual when Oliver came, Leon’s name was on his lips.

…are you saying that Oliver and Dylan don’t even have sex anymore? The reason this paragraph irritated me, is because they had a conversation about how they needed to have their own time as husbands and to have some nights together, but this paragraph says otherwise.

I love MMM, and I love when a third is introduced but honestly I felt like Dylan was an afterthought in his own damn marriage and in this book.

It missed the mark for me.

WHAT YOU NEED was an extra spicy MMM romance about a married couple who want to explore a cuckholding kink and end up finding something more. I loved how devoted and sweet Oliver and Dylan were with each other; they've been together since high school and their trust and love was really beautiful. They meet Leon at a BDSM club but soon find they enjoy his company for more than just the bedroom. All together these three were really sexy and steamy and I appreciated their open communication, both as a triad but also between Oliver and Dylan.

I will say that once they meet Leon the book really shifts to focusing all the sex on Oliver and Leon (with Dylan watching) and I felt a little bit like the intimacy between Oliver and Dylan got left behind a bit. I've seen other reviews bring this up and I think it's important to recognize that a cuckholding kink is different than just regular polyamory so it's to be expected that Dylan was going to spend more time watching because that's what he enjoyed. However, I do agree that it did feel a bit like Oliver's attention and love shifted away from Dylan and onto Leon rather than expanding to include Leon.

That being said, WHAT YOU NEED was still a great debut and I'm looking forward to seeing what Whit Ryan writes next.

This was a good story, I think the author nailed the cuckolding kink (even if I found out that I don't enjoy it very much): the description of Dylan's emotions while watching his husband with another man were intense and quite believable.
I also really really appreciated that the author always kept things sweet and tender between them. There’s no degradation, no mean domination or toy boys here, it was all nice and respectful. The three men are great and, during the intercourse, they always check on each other to assure that everyone is comfortable with what they're doing.

The problem for me, the one that made me rate this book only three stars despite I honestly liked the MCs, was the awful feeling that Dylan was being cuckolded outside the bedroom too.

It was Dylan’s fantasy and Oliver’s wish to fulfill it that brought them to the club to find a third and Leon has always been very thoughtful and caring, but I felt like Dylan and Oliver put their relationship on hold to give more importance to Leon and Oliver’s physical connection.

The scene at the hotel, when Leon and Oliver shared a bed, while Dylan slept on the couch, bothered me to no end. Their making love the morning after was worse, it was clear that Oliver and Leo were falling in love with each other and it seemed to me that the two husbands didn't talk enough about the possibility of Oliver catching feelings for his bull.

Basically all the sex scenes in this book (and they are a lot) involve only Leon and Oliver. There’s just one with Dylan and his husband where they also agree to not talk about the other man in order to reconnect (like Leo was so part of their dynamic at that point that they had to explicitly decide to not mention him).

And even if Leon admits to himself that he’s attracted to Dylan too, the feelings between them come too late in the book (we have to wait until the third part to see their first kiss).

I really really loved Leon and Dylan’s first time together, it was like finally Dylan was taken care of too. I think that, despite Oliver always saying his encounters with Leon were a fulfillment of his husband's fantasy, I always felt like Dylan was emotionally left behind by his husband, like his feelings were not taking into account by Ollie.
But during their first time, Leon was so attentive, affectionate and tender (even with their kink exploration) that all the scene showed how much Leo cared for Dylan too. But sadly it wasn't enough.

At the end, I still believed there was too much unbalance between the three of them, that Leon and Oliver’s bond was taking way more space: for example, when Ollie had a very bad day, he sought Leon’s comfort. In truth, Dylan was on a trip and obviously couldn’t physically be there for him like Leon was, but did Oliver have to put on Leon’s clothes to feel safe? Did he had to have sex with Leon in his and Dylan’s bed instead of all of them videochatting together?
And, above all, why Leo and Oliver never mentioned Dylan during sex, like Dylan and Leon did about Ollie during their first time alone?

So, I loved the characters, but not their dynamic. I also liked very much this author's writing and I hope to read more about them in the future.

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review

To sum this up, this book was average. It's too short for this type of story...

The book starts with something, the blurb tells you something, but once you are invested, you get something else. In the blurb, it says that Dylan has a fantasy he wants to fulfill, and his husband helps him, but in reality, this book gets to be about Oliver, the husband... disappointing.

I like all 3 characters, individually they are great, but together? It's not so great. I've read all the 4&5 stars reviews for this book, and I legit don't understand where people got the impression that these 3 were made for each other.

I felt from one point on that Oliver forgot about his husband. Dylan became second in the love story between Leon and Olly, and they forgot him there until it was convenient for them. Oliver, in my opinion, took advantage of the love Dylan has for him, and Leon followed that trend.

We got from Oliver & Dylan communicating their wants and needs, to Leon taking over their marriage and telling them how to love themselves in private. What the...? Dylan went along with it because it made Olly happy and, at some point, that became toxic. This was not something that was discussed beforehand, and it came out of nowhere. They kept saying that Leon understood Dylan's needs, but... HOW? How is it possible since they barely talked or spent time together? We got too much Olly and Leon and too little Leon and Dylan.

While the chemistry between Oliver and Leon was off the charts, the one between Leon and Dylan felt like it was below the sea level. The ILY's felt forced between D&L. It felt like they both loved Oliver and said it just for the sake of it... just so they can all stay together.

While throughout the book, we got to see Oliver and Leon bond and fall in love, Leon and Dylan started together at around 80% percent. Not enough time to do anything, to see them grow as a couple, learn about each other, nothing... how can they love each other, not even 10% later?

While I understand the k*n k presented in this book, again, it felt just like an excuse for Oliver to be spoiled and loved by two men and for Dylan to get the leftovers. They even mentioned this in the book Leon always told him in a 'sexy' way that he was getting Oliver's leftovers. Yeah... no.

The dynamic was awful. At some point, tbh I wanted Oliver to divorce Dylan and just stay with Leon because Dyl really deserves more than this. The Valentine's novella solidified that when Oliver couldn't even get off with his husband anymore. If Leon was not the one doing it, Olly was not coming. How is this love again?

When you write a poly relationships you need to give the characters time to grow and make all of them equally important, otherwise its just a story about people enjoying taking and taking without giving back enough to fulfill the other ones needs.

There were some things said here and there to keep the story going and make it seem like Oliver loves his husband, but if you look closely you'll realize that he was just dependent on him, loved the attention of two men, and was selfish.

Do with this review what you want... I can't recommend this book, unfortunately. I had a bad time reading it, and the only reason I didn't DNF it was because it was short and I kept hoping that the author would somehow give Dylan the love and attention he also deserved. Spoiler alert, he did NOT.

As someone who loves poly relationships and reading about them, this book made me both mad and sad.

The characters had so much potential to be great together. Too bad the author did not want that for them.

I went in to this book thinking it was going to be a typical MMM romance but it is definitely not that. There were kinks/tropes that normally I wouldn’t be a fan of but there’s one line within the first chapter that really sort of helped me understand what this book was going to be about and how it was going to go down between all involved characters:

“It was just Dylan talking about how badly he wanted to watch someone else fuck Oliver. How he wanted to sit in the corner with his hand down his pants, watching as someone else brought Oliver toe-curling pleasure.”

And that’s exactly what the book was so I’m rating/reviewing this based on the premise of 1/2 of a married couple getting turned on by his husband being with another man period.

I liked how Dylan’s priority was finding a person who was sweet to Oliver and would make Oliver’s pleasure the focus of being together. I thought leading up to them deciding to make this a regular thing within their marriage they did communicate and reassure each other a lot to make sure they were both still happy with the arrangement. I liked how it started off as a kink and experimenting but as feelings got involved on Oliver’s end they talked about it and made sure the other was okay.

On the physical level I think the chemistry is there between all 3. Leon and Dylan are a bit rougher with each other but what they have in common is being sweet to Oliver. The emotional aspect is where I really needed to remind myself of the quote I mentioned earlier. There is definitely Dylan/oliver and Oliver/Leon. Dylan/Leon sort of ends up being a bit less than the other dynamics but I thought was okay given the fact that this was only ever physical for Dylan. When Oliver catches feelings they reassess and talk but Dylan’s main reason for being okay with it is because of how good Leon takes care of Oliver.

This book is definitely for people who are a bit more open minded in terms of kink, especially cuckholding. If you don’t like the idea of that then I would skip this one!

What a debut! I really enjoyed this and I'm so happy that I read it. It's not easy to get an MMM(or any other poly combination for that matter) right, but this book got it so right! I'm always afraid of characters feeling jealous, being left out or just feeling like an add-on, but Oliver, Leon and Dylan communicated so well, that there was no threat of that happening. Everything felt so natural and they meshed so well like they were each others missing pieces(and they were). I loved that their dynamics and relationships with each other were different, but respect and love for each other was something they all shared. I really enjoyed the fact that the spent one-on-one time with each other, it felt needed for their connections to develop. There are a lot of sweet moments between the characters as well, which I really enjoyed. And the way they cherished and loved each other was everything.

There is a great amount of really good quality spice in this book, but you also get a great amount of plot. Despite the length, we are really able to get to know the characters and no part of the story feels rushed. We see feelings develop and grow, and are privy to honest and open conversations. This could have easily been twice as long and I would have happily read it. Dylan, Leon and Oliver felt like they were made for each other and I'm glad that I could read about their story.

What You Need was a steamy and kinky MMM read!

It was a pretty straight forward story, with a married couple who accidentally found a third partner while exploring some fantasies. Dylan and Oliver were so sweet, and it was interesting to see how things developed once Leon entered the picture.

There were a lot of steam and the story was very focused on the sexual aspects of the relationships, and while there were some glimpses of the relationship development between them, it was mostly in pairs and not between all three of them. Oliver was the always in the centre of the story, and sometimes I felt like his relationship with Leon overshadowed his marriage to Dylan.

They were all great at communicating, and even if none of them expected their hookups to turn into more, there was no unnecessary drama. The kink was well written and the cuckolding was really hot. Leon was great at creating scenes where they all got what they needed, and their dynamic was great.

What You Need was a quick and steamy read, full of steamy and kinky scenes, but it also had some sweet and tender moments. While I ended up enjoying this one, there was a lot of telling instead of showing, and the third person PoV sometimes made things a little confusing.

** Thank you so much to Gay Romance reviews for the ARC **

Whit Ryan’s debut novel could not have been a better surprise! It’s extremely filthy, incredibly hot and what an amazing read this was! I appreciate Ryan’s introduction to the moment Oliver and Dylan decide that their relationship was ready for the next step to fulfill their fantasies. It went straight to the point, and the focus was clearly how much Oliver and Dylan wanted a third person in their relationship.

I loved that this was totally drama free/ low angst, mostly filth and vibes. I kept being afraid that there would be jealousy and things would go bad, but none of that, which made me really happy. Leon is always careful with how he does things and always asks for Oliver's or Dylan’s consent before he does anything. The first part of the book focuses a lot on Leon’s relationship with Oliver since he was the person who wanted to live this fantasy more. Oliver is more emotionally dependent and wears his heart on his sleeve, but his communication with Dylan is very open and honest. I love that while Oliver and Dylan were two different people: Oliver is more open and Dylan is more reserved, they both talk very openly about things. You can read a lot of smut, but these types of relationships are sexy as hell! The use of third-person POV is also helpful, as each chapter offers a unique character’s perspective.

What starts as a fantasy soon ends up with Oliver and Leon creating a bond and their relationship grows from purely physical to a more emotional one. Leon needs someone to be a more dominant person and while Oliver eats it up and gives himself to him emotionally, Dylan is a lot harder to get to that persona. Dylan does not allow himself to explore that part of him that also craves submission. With Oliver, everything felt very equal, so that’s where Leon’s strength makes their relationship better. He gives what they both need: new experiences and a third dominant person, while Oliver and Dylan allow Leon to feel what he never thought he could feel.

I also loved that the title is “What you need” with emphasis on the “You” part. Even though the starting point was what Oliver needed, that relationship and bond were what everyone needed. Leon needed someone to be available emotionally; Oliver needed to be worshiped by two men, and Dylan needed someone to know what he needed and give in to those needs.

“What you need” is a zero BS, heart-warming and extremely spicy book, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea but if you’re looking for a most smut, lots of feelings and low plot with a lot of peppers this is for you!

What You Need
Whit Ryan
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

Talk about going from 0 to 60… 🔥 Chapter 1 folks, Whit Ryan wasn't messing around! He definitely came to play.

If you're looking for a hot and steamy MMM cuckhold lifestyle story, look no further. This is the book for you! So hot!

Dylan and Oliver, a sweet, happily married couple looking to spice up their love life, go to a local “adult” club looking for someone to help fulfill a fantasy. That's where they meet Leon, and the attraction is undeniable.

“I’m looking for someone who can make my husband come. While I watch.”
Umm… yes, please!!

I loved the chemistry between Oliver and Leon and how Leon immediately took on the alpha male role with Oliver and Dylan, but somewhere towards the middle of the book, I started to feel sorry for poor Dylan. It was like he was an afterthought, a third, sometimes forgotten wheel. Now, I know in a cuckhold relationship that's how it works, but we watchers need love too. I was worried Leon was going to steal Oliver from him. Thankfully, that didn't happen, and everyone got a HEA.

I really enjoyed this book, it's hot, very hot! I believe this is Whit's debut novel, and for a first-time novelist, this is very impressive! I can't wait to see what is next for him.

I loved this book! I had to do a little research to really understand the kink/relationship dynamics, and I’m happy I did. Dylan, Oliver, and Leon all got what they needed from this relationship, and it was hot, hot, hot. Sweet, too, but mostly 🔥. An incredible debut, and I’ll be coming back for whatever else Whit writes!

I enjoyed the first half of this book, but as it went on, I felt like it became less MM and more MM plus an extra M. I know cucking was a big thing in the story, but I felt like it became such a plot point that Dylan was pushed out of his own marriage and it was the Leon and Oliver show. Considering Dylan and Oliver had been together and so in love since high school, I didn't expect Oliver to just dive into spending all of his time with Leon so quickly (especially as the whole idea of them introducing a third was Dylan's fantasy in the first place). Dylan just became a bit of an afterthought, someone on the sidelines while watching his husband fall in love with someone else. I didn't really believe it when Leon and Dylan said they loved each other, because we hadn't really seen them spend more time together without Oliver than one single occasion. Beyond that it was just Leon and Oliver all the time, because Dylan was either happy to watch or he was off on a work trip. I mean, for the convention in Vegas where the three of them shared a room, Dylan slept on the sofa-bed while Oliver and Leon slept in the main bed together... It just felt like as soon as Dylan and Oliver met Leon, the relationship they had with each other was entirely forgotten, along with Dylan as a whole who was brought back into the fold at the end.

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer my MMMs a bit more all or nothing. Like, I don't mean they can't have sex in pairs or spend time/go on dates together, but I prefer it when we see equal amounts of the trio getting to know each other, rather than focusing on two out of the three characters.

Holy shit. This was the hottest book I've read so far this year, and one of the hottest ever. Hands down. I believe this works better under the erotica tag, but I still loved it so much that it has become of my favorite books. I was obsessed from page one.

The story is about a married couple, Oliver and Dylan. Dylan has a fantasy that involves cuckolding: watching his husband have sex with another man. They agree to it and both start going to a club to hopefully meet the right guy. Their wish comes true with Leon, a dominant man who was looking for a good night. The more all of them get involved, sparks start appearing and they'll realize the whole thing isn't just about sex.

I absolutely loved the writting style and characters here. Now this is how you write sex scenes. This book had absolutely every kink and act I love and it delivered on every single scene. While it's a bit fast paced, it makes sense within the narrative and it doesn't brush off important conversations.

I enjoyed the way all of them came together and how their dynamic evolved through sex. This one shows sex scenes can move a story forward and are important. These men connected through sex and feelings were worked out through it as they progressed, without any miscommunication. At the end of the day, they fit perfectly and each one can offer something to the others within their relationship.

I noticed some reviews mention that they felt as if one of them was left out of the dynamic, but it was the opposite for me. I felt that all of them were involved, there was clear consent from each party and many things get addressed between the three. The way their dynamic works is clarified one more time in the epilogue as well. When feelings arised, . It was very clear that Dylan's (and soon Oliver's too) fantasy came true and although it had a development none of them expected, all of that was fine with all parties so no cheating happened here.

Overall, I feel like this is more like an erotica book instead of a full romance (still very fun and hot), but that detail didn't have a negative effect on my experience. On the contrary, it had me feeling thrilled over the dynamic and I really loved the connection between the three guys. I had an amazing time.

Oliver and Dylan are two men who fell in love with each other in high school, married for several years and still totally in love with each other. The physical side of the marriage is very good and fantasy is a part of it. When Dylan reveals a fantasy he has about Oliver, the fantasy evolves into reality, and that is the story. The blurb gives the short version, but the beauty is in the complete story as the reader sees different sides of the three characters involved, expressed in the distinct ways each one acts with each of the others. There is a different feeling with Dylan and Oliver together versus Leon and Oliver together, even though the physical acts might be the same, and the development of deeper feelings as the dynamics change is easy to sense. Both Dylan and Oliver have different parts of their personalities which Leon is able to meet in a way each could not meet for the other, and Leon has needs filled for him which he hadn’t realized he was missing. The physical acts are explicit but sensitively written so they are a seamless part of the story rather than ones there just to titillate and add spice. The interactions in the whole book felt thoughtful, loving and caring to me, intentionally planned to provide pleasure physically and emotionally, to each one, not just ways to spice up their lives. I thought this was one of the most “real” books I have read with an established couple unexpectedly finding a third that complemented both so well. I can’t really explain it well, but I just had the feeling that if these three were real people meeting in real life, they would have known they were meant to be together. I loved this book and the characters, and would definitely recommend this book if you want a sensitive one dealing with adding a third to a loving marriage.

I received an advance reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.

What You Need is a seriously steamy MMM romance that mixes cuckolding kink with some unexpected feelings. Oliver and Dylan have been together since high school, totally in love and devoted to each other, but they decide to spice things up—which leads them to Leon at a BDSM club. What starts as just a fun experiment quickly turns into something deeper, and their chemistry as a trio is off the charts.

One of the things I really loved was the trust and open communication between Oliver and Dylan. They constantly checked in with each other, which made their dynamic feel really strong. But once Leon entered the picture, the focus shifted more to Oliver and Leon, with Dylan mostly on the sidelines. It made sense for the kink, but at times, it felt like Oliver’s attention was shifting rather than expanding, which had me worried about his and Dylan’s relationship. I was relieved when Dylan became more involved instead of just watching, and I really appreciated that he and Leon took the time to build their own connection, especially because it was so different from the connect he and Oliver had and the one Oliver and Leon had.

Leon was the missing piece, and I loved how each of them brought something different to the relationship. When they came together (pun intended), it was pure fire! I also appreciated the balance between plot and smut—this isn’t a long book, but it still takes the time to develop the characters and their connections, making everything feel real and satisfying.

This was a great debut—super hot, emotional in all the right ways, and perfect for readers open to cuckolding and BDSM themes. If that’s your thing, you’re in for a treat! Definitely excited to see what Whit Ryan writes next.

I would never have guessed this was a debut novel if you hadn't told me. The pacing and relationship timeline felt fairly realistic (for a mmm poly cuckold fantasy to more!), the characters were well developed, and the spice was spicy.

Oliver and Dylan are long term relationship/husbands since high school with a well developed dynamic and pros at honest communication. When Dylan admits to a fantasy of watching Oliver be with another man? The idea develops from fantasy shared to dirty talk to a visit to a local kink club. When there they meet Leon, a rugged caretaking dom and consent gent, their dreams become reality. The attraction between Leon and Oliver is INSTA spicy and as they extend their arrangement to an exclusive one, it's easy to see their dynamic change from spicy to emotions. Dylan and Leon's relationship evolves as well from teaming up to care/pleasure Oliver via the cuckolding, into a friendship and then a romantic one. Personally, I would have liked more scenes showing that growing dynamic as they move from exclusive kink friends to relationship.

But overall, the characters all had their own things -- hang ups, interests, plot points! Which was great, because sometimes that can get lost in an MMM (or more) situation.

This was an enjoyable read and I think a solid debut novel! Looking forward to seeing what Whit writes next. :)

It took me a day or two to decide what to write for this ARC review. I saw the author explain that this book is about cuckolding (getting aroused by watching your partner having sex with someone else) and saying that they should have made it more clear in their promotion of this book.

Knowing this now, I totally see how Leon, Dylan and Oliver’s relationship work. Dylan and Oliver want to fulfill a fantasy: Dylan wants to watch Oliver having sex with another man, that aroused him A LOT and throughout all the book, you can clearly see that Dylan loves watching Oliver and Leon. Leon is so very attracted to Oliver from the start and he agrees to fulfill their fantasy immediately. The sex scenes are HOT, Oliver and Leon are truly 🥵

Now, having said that, this book did not feel like a MMM in the sense that, in my opinion, Leon and Oliver truly developed feelings for each other, most sex scenes are about these two (with Dylan watching), but the two or three sex scenes where it’s Dylan with Oliver or with Leon felt a bit out of place? I don’t know… It really felt as if Leon was being there for Oliver all the time instead of his actual husband?

In the end, this is a book about Oliver and Leon falling in love more than a MMM (in my opinion). I’m sure this story will find its reader, just be aware of what to expect when going in!

MY OPINION: I was given this as an ARC review say it was a contemporary romance, and you felt these three men fall in love. But it could very easily be erotica. The book was a slow burn where love happened almost without them wanting it to. The primary focus of this book is cuckolding and how it fits within an established relationship. Dylan and Oliver introduce a third into their relationship that makes them both fulfill their desires. Their needs are very different from each other, but Leon knows how to make them both happy.

These men find their HEA, and there is a LOT of spice throughout with all the partners. If you enjoy some great scenes with kind men, you will really like this story. Seeing how Leon fits seamlessly into their intimate world and then falls for them both, even though he feels love differently for each of them, is wonderful. The men in this story are all unique, but together, they make a complete unit, and it is fun to see them find pleasure in each other's arms.

I should probably reiterate that there is a lot of spice, and it can easily fall into erotica. I enjoyed it because the MCs in this were humanized and became more than just the encounters. There is much more to this than vanilla moments, so make sure you know what you are reading, but if you want something that has a lot of loving moments, you’ll enjoy this story. I recommend it if it falls within the genres you want and would read another story by this debut author.

Whit Ryan knocks this debut out of the park. I was gasping by the 4% mark on my kindle. That never happens to me! I absolutely love stories about couples finding their third, finally being whole. Whit gave that to me in spades.

All three of these MC’s are well rounded, beautifully written characters. The spice in this book is off the charts, but the sweetness is there too. The explosive chemistry took me by storm, but the tender, slow turn to love hooked me until the finish. If I could read this book for the first time again, I would.

For me the perfect MMM romance strikes a careful balance between all three men, and this book does it perfectly. Sweet Oliver and Leon have the most explosive chemistry. Hot while also romantic, and Oliver’s doting husband Dylan loves to watch. Such a dreamboat!

If you like MMM romances that are so steamy your nonexistent glasses will fog up then this is for you. BUT if you also like your MMM romances to have a sweet side that explores a couple coming to terms with turning into a throuple, well this is also for you.

And I am so jealous of everyone that gets to read this for the first time.

💬 “I’m looking for someone who can make my husband come. While I watch.”

When Dylan confesses his biggest fantasy, he and Oliver find the perfect third in Leon—sweet, dominant, and more than happy to put on a show. But what starts as a kink exploration turns into something deeper, and suddenly, there are feelings involved.

💖 If you love MMM with an established couple bringing in a third, this one delivers. Leon is the kind of guy who makes you melt—soft with Oliver, firm with Dylan, and somehow, the glue holding everything together. The smut? 🔥🔥🔥 There’s a lot of it, and it does not disappoint.

BUT—and it’s a big but for me —this felt more like Oliver and Leon’s love story, with Dylan watching from the sidelines (literally). I kept waiting for more one-on-one moments between Dylan and Leon, or even just Dylan and Oliver without Leon being front and centre. Instead, it sometimes felt like Dylan was a guest star in his own marriage.

That being said, if you’re here for the steam and a touch of angst, What You Need delivers. Just don’t expect a perfectly balanced poly romance.

Well that was one very, very steamy novel.

Straight from the get go we are all in with Dylan and Oliver, a married couple exploring their cuckold kink with Leon, who they first meet at a sex club, then fall into a relationship of sorts. I love me a spicy MMM story and this book definitely delivered that.

The author did a good job at developing the relationship between Oliver and Leon and providing an insight into Dylan's kink of watching his husband with someone else. We got a great feel for the strong connection and love between Oliver and Dylan. They were open and honest in their conversations and always sought consent when things got steamy.

I must agree with some other reviewers that the book missed a great opportunity to develop the relationship between Dylan and Leon. This was a real let down for me, as I felt the story was cut short and could have been another 100 pages long to make it complete.

Overall, it was a fun, hot as hell MMM book and I look forward to reading more from this author.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.

Official Description: When Dylan revealed his fantasy of getting to watch his husband be with another man, he never thought it would go past dirty talk. But when Oliver suggested finding a participant to play out the fantasy in real life, there was no way he could say no.
Leon was hot, dominant, and knew how to take care of Oliver. He was exactly what Dylan and Oliver needed.
