I have been given the chance to review this exciting book on how to view the world of a dyslexic child differently. I have dyslexic friends from school and from college. I did personally wonder until recently, well the last few years why I struggled so much with Mathematics. I remained quiet in the classroom, too scared to ask in case, I got called dumb.
The author has written brilliant case studies about children who have dyslexia and one parent found she had it also, the children called it their "superpower", how they have discovered different techniques to overcome, not a difficulty, or an excuse not to do something but another way of coping.
Personally, I really enjoyed reading this non-fiction, educational book, as it is factual and to the point. Using vark which is where you discover what kind of learner you are, is quite a good thing to do at various points in your life as it can change.
I feel the bonus bundle where you have to scan the QR code, would personally work better at the end, perhaps in an appendix. Not everyone has access to a QR reader, so also perhaps provide a link for a website as well if parents want to access it.
On the plus side, the short chapters and summarizing them at the end was a total win. Any parent who has a dyslexic child, or in the process of getting their child diagnosed or any teacher who really wants to brush up on knowing about dyslexia please consider reading this. I am so glad I read it as it helped me to understand my husbands struggles with his reading as what was described and I asked, it was yes that is what it was like.
I have not come across any other books from this author yet, but if I do, then I will read them. Thank you A. Marie for giving me this chance to read your fabulous book.
This book was better than the previous book that I read about Dyslexia, but I still found it insufficient for my needs. I am looking for a book that gives teachers ideas and strategies to support students with Dyslexia. This was written for parents. I also found the book repetitive. Many ideas were re-iterated over and over again. This being said, I found it more practical and helpful than the "The Gift of Dyslexia" (I think that was the title).
