This user is speechless!

First read of the year, and already a 5-star!!

Thank you, Lauren Monica, for sending me a free copy of A Yes or No Question in exchange for my honest review.

This is a single-POV book in which we follow Susan, Sam, Jameson, and Billy. Susan is a rich girl who, from the outside, seems like she has everything she could ask for. She has money, friends, and everyone loves her—but she feels empty. Her parents have her future planned for her, but how does she tell them that she doesn't want any of it?

On the other side, we have Sam, Jameson, and Billy. They're flawed and broken, but they're family, and that's enough. The bond and relationship they share are so beautifully written that you can't stop wishing it would be enough to heal their broken souls.

In A Yes or No Question, the author tackles important topics such as anxiety, grief, characters deprived of parental love, and struggling families. We watch them come together and heal each other slowly. The more they open up, the more your heart aches for each and every one of the characters.

Susan & Billy: I LOVE THEM. At first, Billy is portrayed as a tatted bad boy who might just want to seduce Susan, but we quickly realize that this is not the case at all. In many ways, their souls resonate with each other, and he sees himself in her. They can't stay away from each other, and their chemistry is beautiful. The start was a bit slow, but once it picks up…!!! God, I love them. The depth of both their characters was so well executed.

This is not a "typical" rich girl x bad/poor boy story where the only "plot" revolves around the FMC being attracted to the bad boy she shouldn't want because they come from different backgrounds. NOT AT ALL. This is emotional. It's a coming-of-age story in which we see the characters grow and learn what freedom and loyalty truly mean for the first time in their lives. This is a found-family story, in which each character has a vital place in the group. The way Susan fit with all three of them made you feel like she belonged with them all along—as if she was ALWAYS meant to find her way to their little group (family). Also, Billy is the sweetest man ever. He's deeply scarred and makes mistakes because of it, but despite that, he felt real and relatable. You can't help but root for him.

Sam & Jameson: I can't wait for the next book. I NEED THEIR STORY. I AM BEGGING. ON MY KNEES. I NEED IT. Sam deals with her problems and pain in the wrong way, and the absolute devotion Jameson has for her is crazy. She doesn't need to talk for him to KNOW what she needs. She doesn't need to ask for anything—he just gives. They're both messed up, but they manage to keep each other standing. I can already tell that their story is going to be painful, raw, and absolutely beautiful.

The only negative point I have is that the storyline jumps around a little too much. We're introduced to lots of characters quickly, and it's a bit hard to keep track of them all (though they're all important and necessary). Also, the very beginning felt a little slow, and then it felt a tad rushed. Once we reached 50% of the book, the pacing finally settled and was more manageable. I wish the book was a bit longer so that we could get more glimpses into the other characters' stories and become even more attached to our MCs. I also feel like we could have gotten more about Susan's (horrible) friends to make her loneliness and sense of not belonging feel more believable and impactful.

Aside from that, it was perfect. I read it in one sitting.

Favs quotes:

"We've gotta look out for ourselves 'cause nobody else is gonna do it. We can't go trying to save the world when we can barely save ourselves."

"I close my eyes and let the water run over me. Then, silently, I say goodbye to the two people in my life who were supposed to love me no matter what, but instead showed me just how conditional love can be."

I read 𝑨 𝒀𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒓 𝑵𝒐 𝑸𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 in less than 24 hours—and I’M A MOM! Let that sink in. The characters in Lauren Monica’s novel are well-developed, complex, and dynamic. Simply put, 𝑨 𝒀𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒓 𝑵𝒐 𝑸𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 is a heart-wrenching, slow-burn romance about finding connection in unexpected places—and breaking free from the life that others chose for you.

This book felt both rushed and drawn out. I liked the idea of the book, but this really wasn’t executed well. The main character was so incredibly boring and her relationship with the three friends felt forced and almost like she was inserting herself into these relationships. It just did not feel authentic to me at all. The writing itself was fine, but the story was really lacking.

Susan is a young student (who graduates not long after the start of the book), who has surrounded herself with friends who don't really know much about her, and don't take the time to understand who she under beyond surface value and what she presents. Her parents, too, don't bother to ask her about her life, what she wants; they project their views of who they want her to be onto her.

When Susan has an encounter with another young woman, Sam, she ends up spending a bit of time getting to knew her group of people; Billy and Jameson. They are a bit of a rougher group, brought up with hard times and doing what they need to to get by.

As she gets to know these three, Susan starts to understand more about herself, what she is capable of, and develops a strength to speak up to those around her. After an event that forces the four of them to flee, Susan finds herself in a difficult spot. The life she knew shatters quickly, and she is forced to make all sorts of decisions that dismantle everything she knows.

This was a great read, not my normal thing, but I'm glad I picked it up. There are a lot of in depth aspects to these character's lives' that the author dives into, unpacking all sorts of traumas, unravelling stereotypes we have of people based on their looks and class status. Susan has so much growth throughout her journey, but so do Sam, Billy, and Jameson.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy "A Yes or No Question" as much as I did! Not often do I read YA, and I actually wasn't aware this was YA when I picked it up. I received an ARC and am leaving this review voluntarily!

I LOVE THIS BOOK !!!
The story was about Susan, an eighteen year old girl coming from a rich family and a group of three close friends Sam, Jameson and Billy from the wrong and complicated side of town. They didn’t have any point in common, one would say. But they did. They were all suffocated and heartbroken by those who should be called families and have had their backs…
It was actually sad but I kept smiling throughout the story. Their friendship warmed my soul. Their love melted my heart.
The writing is beautiful, simple yet charming.
I’m really glad to discover this book and will definitely follow this author’s next works.

I received an advance review copy of this book. Once I heard what this book was about I knew it was right up my alley. I’m a sucker for forced proximity romances! I was eating this book up from start to finish and it seemed just the right pace for me

I loved the relationship that Billy, Jameson and Sam had and the story of all the challenges that friend group overcame and endured. You could just tell their bond was unbreakable and meant to last a lifetime. Those are true friendships that are rare to find these days.

Susan being the rich girl still had her own challenges and being rich wasn’t as glamorous as you’d think it was. Her character just fit right into the friend group despite her being rich and the others being poor and the bad kids.

Overall just a good book that had me hooked from front to back. Can’t wait to read any future stories about these characters and see how life played out for them.

I LOVED this book, but I wanted just a bit more from the epilogue 💔
Having a time frame to when the epilogue takes/ took place would have probably made this into a 5 ⭐️ read. The one sentence, not know how much time had passed, left me sorta empty as a reader 🫤

I’m also left with so many questions in regards to Sam, especially at the end…
Was she into drugs, or just a bit of an alcoholic?
When she leaves randomly with Jameson throughout the book, what do they do? Is it just to have sex with each other, or do they get into other things…?
I understand Sam and Jameson’s story will be coming out, so I hope some of these questions get answered 🤔

Overall, I loved the story and the flow of it! I’m extremely surprised with how well Lauren writes, especially considering this was her debut novel (minus her poetry book).
I look forward to Sam and Jameson’s story next!! 😁

This was a solid read. The story was well paced, the characters were flawed but vulnerable, and there was no miscommunication trope or 3rd act breakup which sealed the deal for me. I really got invested in Billy, Susan, Jameson & Sam and just wanted only good things for them after all the bad in their life. The Epilogue killed me though, like give me more Lauren!

When I began A Yes or No Question, I didn’t know if it was the type of romance that I usually love, but I’ve gotta say, you hooked me and I’m left wanting more!
The family bond that Jameson, Billy and Sam have is perfection, and the way they open themselves, their circle, and their future to Susan - chef’s kiss!!! Their chemistry, trust and loyalty is what we all dream of.
I really hope we get more of their stories in the future.

God I am so conflicted. This book started out so strong and the chemistry and angst was on fire. Then when they finally got together it fell flat. I was feeling really positive this was going to have my favorite spice I have read, but it had barely more than none and I think I would have preferred none. The whole vibe of the book changed for me after the first intimate scene. It was just so sad and disappointing that it killed my high I had on this couple.

Don’t get me wrong the writing was great and the chemistry was leaping off the page, but the spice and the ending had me strongly considering 3 stars. Maybe 2.5. But in the end the first half of the book carried it through.

I will read the next one and sign up for her newsletter, but man that was almost my favorite book.

Susan was boring. The other characters were more interesting. But the story didn’t flow very well. It was very info dumping so that the reader could know what the other characters knew. It just felt like Susan didn’t belong and her relationship just felt very forced.

Lauren Monica’s A Yes or No Question is a heartfelt coming-of-age story that dives deep into themes of family, identity, and love in its many forms. It’s an emotional journey that kept me hooked from start to finish.

The story centers on Susan, a wealthy girl whose seemingly perfect life is anything but fulfilling, and Billy, a tattooed bad boy with a soft heart and a painful past. Together with Billy’s siblings, Jameson and Sam, the group forms an unconventional but deeply moving found family. Monica expertly explores their individual struggles and how they come together to support and heal one another, creating a narrative that is raw, vulnerable, and hopeful.

Susan and Billy’s romance stands out for its depth and authenticity. At first glance, it seems like a classic rich girl/poor boy trope, but Monica takes it beyond the surface. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their connection is rooted in shared pain and a desire for freedom. Watching their relationship develop felt genuine, and I couldn’t help but root for them. Billy’s protective nature and Susan’s growing confidence made their love story both tender and empowering.

The sibling bond between Billy, Jameson, and Sam was another highlight of the book. Their loyalty to one another, despite their flaws and individual challenges, was beautifully portrayed. Sam and Jameson’s dynamic added layers to the story, and I, like many readers, am eagerly awaiting their turn in the spotlight.

While the pacing was a bit uneven at times, with the beginning feeling slow and some parts feeling rushed, the emotional stakes and character development kept me engaged. The narrative could have benefited from more buildup in certain areas to allow the tension and relationships to simmer longer, but overall, it delivered a satisfying and impactful story.

Monica doesn’t shy away from tackling heavy themes like anxiety, grief, and strained family dynamics, making the characters’ growth and triumphs feel all the more rewarding. The epilogue, while bittersweet, left me longing for more of these characters and their journeys.

If you love stories of found family, emotional growth, and love that transcends societal expectations, A Yes or No Question will resonate with you. Thank you to Lauren Monica and Book Sirens for the ARC copy. I’m already counting down the days until the next installment!

I recently finished reading *A Yes or No Question* by Lauren Monica, and it was such an incredible experience that I found myself pausing to savor every moment. I didn’t want it to end because I was captivated by the story and the characters. The plot centers around Susan, a young girl completing community service as part of a school project. While on this assignment, she offers a ride to another girl named Sam, unaware that Sam lives in a rough neighborhood.

As Susan navigates this unfamiliar environment, she encounters unexpected, unsavory, and eye-opening situations. Initially, Susan presents herself as a typical “pretty privileged princess” who seemingly has everything. However, as the story unfolds, we learn that a distraught young woman lies beneath this polished exterior. Susan is grappling with significant depression and loneliness, feeling invisible even among her friends and family, who overlook her struggles.

Throughout the story, Susan’s journey leads her to form meaningful connections with people she would have never expected. She develops a bond with Sam, Jameson, and Billy, who become her unexpected support system. This newfound family helps her uncover that beauty and privilege do not equate to happiness and fulfillment.

The narrative beautifully illustrates that even those who seem to have everything often fight their battles, just like those who appear less fortunate. It’s a poignant reminder that we can discover shared struggles and the universal need for love and understanding if we take the time to listen to one another. The message resonated with me, highlighting the importance of empathy and connection in a world that often feels isolating.

A Yes or No Question
by Lauren Monica
3 out of 5 stars

When Susan finds a new group to hang around with, she finds the meaning of friends, family, and living a life she loves.

This book wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. I thought it read like a YA novel, and that makes sense after reading the author's note. She had a version of this story in her head since she was 13. Honestly, we just look at life and love differently at age 13... and 18.... and well, probably for the rest of our lives. I don't think I was the target audience for this book at my age.

I felt like the characters were very stereotypical. The "bad boys" and the "rich girl" were portrayed as we usually see them in books and movies. There doesn't seem to be any blend between the two groups, until Susan decides to hang out with the kids from the wrong side of the tracks... pretty much literally. Susan's parents were jerks, but from the perspective of a parent, I can understand their concerns. They just didn't handle themselves well. And they weren't much of parents to begin with.

One of the themes in this book was living for yourself. Susan feels like her life was dictated by her parents. She didn't make decisions for herself. She didn't live for herself. Well, frankly, at age 18, having just graduated high school the day the big event happens, that is absolutely true. That's true for everyone. We start to grow after we start to live on our own and have to make decisions that impact our futures. She should have had more say in her direction, but I don't think it's fair to say she has been living for her parents all of her life.

I would not really recommend this book to anyone. It was frustrating in parts and unrealistic in others. It wasn't poorly written, but I couldn't connect to any of the characters.

Spice level- PG

A heartbreaking story of an eighteen year old rich girl , feeling out of place and lived in an unloved , isolated home meets a friend in a food bank ..it’s the start of her journey to discovering herself

Billy , his cousin Jameson and his girlfriend Sam have troubled pasts and comes from the wrong side of town , one night and it changes Susan life.

Honestly I had no idea what direction this book was going to take me but I really enjoyed it ! I have read rich girl / troubled bad boy romance in the past but this story came with a little twist of things . This book made me feel ! Raw emotions , hate , regret , pain, misery and anger gripped me .. . Billy and his two friends became the stereotype of a troubled town but behind that were just kids that were misunderstood and forgotten and was left to defend themselves and become older beyond their years .. doing anything in order to survive the harsh world.. living up to their reputation . Together they faced everything . Their friendship and loyalty was unmatched

As much as I loved the four of them together it would have been nice to have a little more interactions with Susan and Billy without Jameson and Sam as it would have created a better connection and chemistry between them .

Only negative . The amount of times the men ran their hands through their hair and pulled at it in frustration I’m surprised they haven’t given themselves a receding hairline or developed bald spots

I enjoyed watching them drop their walls, open up and letting others in , being vulnerable and trusting Susan with their hurtful pasts , secrets and shame . Also , excuse me , Miss Lauren Monica .. that epilogue ? As much as I loved their happy ending .. I desperately needed more of them .. what happened next ?

“ It’s just a yes or no question , baby. “ 🥰🥰🥰

This was my first book by Lauren Monica, and it absolutely didn’t disappoint! From the very beginning, I was captivated by the tropes and the intriguing blurb, and once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down.

This story was packed with emotion. The family bond between Billy, Jameson, and Sam was incredibly heartfelt, and the way they embraced Susan as the story progressed was beautifully done. The relationships—between Susan and Billy, and then Sam and Jameson—felt so raw and real. We got to see every facet, the good and the bad, which made their struggles and triumphs all the more impactful. My heart broke for the way their families treated them, but it was a reminder of how love and support can make even the hardest battles worthwhile.

The title of this book was so fitting because life isn’t always as simple as a “yes” or “no” answer. I could relate to Susan’s desire to defend her responses instead of giving straightforward ones—it made her so relatable. My only wish is that we’d gotten a dual POV because I’d have loved to know what was going through Billy’s mind.

I can’t wait to read Sam and Jameson’s story next. Lauren Monica has officially made it onto my must-read list!

A story of love, found family, and self-discovery.

A Yes or No Question is not your typical love story. It is a story that involves friendship and learning life beyond what's laid in a woman's life.

This book has one point of view from the female lead Susan. Susan is a graduating student whom future was laid out by her parents. Susan, our female lead, comes from a well-off family, where her parents expect her to follow in their footsteps and uphold their legacy. However, all she truly wants is the freedom to pursue her own passions.

One day, she accidentally met three people who are close to each other ( friends they are ) but are from the wrong side of town; and this is when her life changed.

Characters:

Susan, our female lead, simply wants to pursue her own desires but is constantly bound by her parents' expectations. Initially, I thought she was rebelling against them by choosing to follow three people she barely knows. However, I soon realized that it wasn’t just about defiance—these people made her feel valued and seen.

Sam, Billy, and Jameson each have complex, distinct personalities. Though vastly different from Susan, they all play a crucial role in shaping her journey, contributing to her growth in ways she never anticipated.

While this story wasn’t exactly my cup of tea at first, I found myself enjoying it more as I got further in. By midway, I was genuinely engaged. Readers who enjoy books with themes similar to mafia stories will likely find this one compelling and worth the read.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

I stumbled onto this book by happenstance and applied for the ARC. Let me start by saying, I am so thankful I did. It was easily one of the quickest reads I’ve had in a while, and by that I mean I read it in a single sitting. I sat for six hours, entirely immersed. I could not put it down.

The story drew me in so completely; giving me chills at times and filling me with so much warmth at others. The characters are well developed and engaging and the interactions between the two main characters was everything. The author made me feel connected to these characters & I didn’t want it to end.

This book has very little spice but the story doesn’t need it or suffer from it at all. The chemistry between the two main characters is perfection. I felt their connection while reading this book. And the plot is more than enough to keep you enthralled.

Susan is a rich girl, whose whole life has been planned for her since birth. Everything from what she wears to who she dates has been dictated by her parents, with little choice ever being given to Susan. Until a small mishap on the wrong side of the tracks introduces her to Billy and tosses Susan into a whole new world.

Billy is a mechanic’s son, whose life has always been anything but easy. He may not have money, but he has his close friends and the loyalty they share. Billy is not the type to settle down or open himself up to heartbreak. But something about Susan draws Billy in.

Tropes in this book include:

Good Girl x Bad Boy
Found Family
Alcohol/Drug Use

In this coming-of-age novel about a soon-to-be high school graduate with her whole future planned by her parents looming in front of her, You'll find the best life is the one unplanned. Sometimes, all you need to do is say, "Yes"

I found a young boy and girl deprived of parental love and struggling in their home situations, who showed me what unconditional love and true acceptance of each other's flaws are.

I found a lonely boy who was scared to truly love another for fear of abandonment. I saw his newfound strength as he let down his walls and learned to love and trust.

I found a girl who had her future planned but had never made any decisions of her own. I watched her find her identity and voice and decide what future she wanted for herself.

I found this book a nice, quick read that left me satisfied. It was quick to finish in one sitting. The story was captivating and quickly grew intense with high stakes. The storyline jumps a little too quickly which could build up more tension and angst to give the story more depth and the romance ignites quickly which can be great but could give the readers more of a slow burn and really draw them in and leave them obsessed for another star or two.

Did I love this book??

Well, it’s a simple yes or no question.

YES! I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I was a little on the fence but whew 😮‍💨. I’m glad I decided to sign up for it anyway.

As I always start, does the book have a third act break? Nope!!!! All the cheers for that! Thank you to the incredible author who decided to not do that to our sweet couple.

Billy and Susan are…just meant to be? I found their story, and love to just be incredibly wholesome. They communicated, had banter, had sweet talks, and man Billy just loved that girl!

Sam and Jameson were AMAZING characters. I’m super excited to see their story and all the things unfold, and how they got to the part they were at.

This is one POV which I’m a sucker for dual and was honestly really hesitant, but I enjoyed it. I do wish we got some of Billy’s mind though.

The emotions, loyalty, heartbreak, friendship- just everything was spot on and I felt like I was an extra little friend to them going along for the ride.

It was incredibly fast paced! Something I was easily able to devour.

Yet another amazing indie author! Always support your indies. ❤️❤️❤️

This book was hard to put down! I wasn’t entirely sure what I was starting, but I’m sure glad I finished it.

Susan is an 18 year old soon to graduate high school student who is living the high life. Or so it would seem. Her life looks pretty cushy, with her brand new BMW, McMansion and high roller besties. She meets Sam at the food bank where Susan and her friends are volunteering for a school project. But Sam is there for community service, and when Susan offers her a ride home, Susan doesn’t realize her life is about to change drastically. Enter Jameson (Sam’s boyfriend), and Billy, Jameson’s cousin.

While this is more young adult (due to their ages), there are some very mature themes imbedded in the story. Abuse, abandonment, drugs, alcohol, and attempted murder. There is enough spice to keep romance readers hooked, but not so much that older teens couldn’t enjoy. This book is less about the spice and more about the story.

Overall, the writing is great. I was hooked, and emotionally invested in the characters. You honestly wouldn’t guess that this is a debut author’s writing. The story is very well done, and the character building is fantastic. I do feel like the story just sort of stops. But maybe that’s how it was meant to be.

A very good read.

This book was a perfect wind down for the day read. I could relate to Susan's struggles with her mother as I was the only daughter of parents who both went to college and owned a business in my small town. Susan didn't have much control over her path in life and her mother was determined to have a daughter who was the perfect daughter and ultimately the perfect wife for some Fortune 500 mogul. I had 2 brothers and was the middle child. Yet I didn't have a close relationship with my mom in the way most of my friends had. Certain friends were discouraged and others encouraged, and not my choice. I was so different with my daughter and she was the middle child, very popular and athletic. We got along most of the time because I was very intentional to give her the opportunities she wanted. She's a great wife and mama and I'm proud of her. The other three kids in this book worked their butts off to overcome their challenging upbringing to have a better life and I liked that as well.

Spoiled (but down-to-earth) ‘good girl’ meets ‘bad’ boy / kids—pretty fun.

POV:
You’re a talented teenaged artist with rich parents who’d never approve … and you fall in with what some would consider the ‘wrong’ crowd …

This was a fun read that drew me in from the start … I loved hating the lead’s stuck up, loathsome parents. They have her whole life planned out for her, but never bothered to ask (or care) what she wants / thinks about this.

Young adult / New adult.
Rich kids (and the polar opposite).
Underage dr|nk|ng & dr4g use.
Major snobbery.
Other boy drama.
Slow-burn romance.
Fresh start.
Young adults on the lam.
Personal growth.
Strong female lead.

Overall:
This was great, and it packed those delicious real feels. Would read more from this author. Continuity could’ve been a bit tighter, nothing major. I

t ended sort of abruptly, I’d like to see more in this world, but also with this couple.

4 stars.

🎧 Audio:
Professional audio production, though the narration was a bit on the robotic side.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

⭐️Not only was this my first ARC read, it was also my first romance and it didn’t disappoint. 🌟

This isn’t your standard rich girl, poor boy romance. It has so much depth with topics of anxiety, vulnerability, unconventional relationships, struggling families, loneliness, self discovery and love.

The dynamic between Jameson, Sam and Billy had me really invested. Despite them being faced with challenges, individual ones and as a group, their bond & loyalty shines above all else, making you root for them throughout.

The only negative of this book is the pace, it’s a bit uneven. Starts off a little slow, the middle goes a bit too fast, almost tripping over itself to catch up, before it even outs. However, that in now way detracts from how good the story and characters are.

I can’t wait to read the next instalment and see how the characters and thier story progresses.

I couldn't stop thinking about this book. The characters felt so real and I was left wanting to know more: more of their past, more of their thoughts, and most of all, more of what happens to them after the book ends. Please write a follow-up!!!

This is a coming-of-age story about Susan, a high school senior with her future seemingly set. But when she crosses paths with Sam, Jameson, and Billy (each carrying their own burdens), her carefully planned future takes a turn she never expected. What follows is a story of love, loss, and the power of friendship and loyalty.

The writing pulls you into the characters’ lives so effortlessly that they begin to feel like people you’ve known forever. Their struggles, their choices, and even their smallest moments are so vividly portrayed that you can't help but feel invested in their lives.

If you love stories that make you feel emotionally connected to the characters, this book is a must-read.

p.s. I'm such a Billy fan girl!!!

What a book! I have been in a reading slump and happened to see this suggested across my feed on Facebook and instantly was curious. I am so glad I picked this up because I am in need of more.

Billy and Susan relationship I adored, and it wasn't a normal rich girl x bad boy type stereotype but so much better. The emotions between the two were raw and unfiltered, and they fit each other like a puzzle piece. The way Susan asked Billy if he was okay, not if everyone was okay, but him, was everything. Everyone leans on him, and he pretends everything is okay when it isn't. These two were everything.

Jameson and Sam relationship is spectacular with the way they are in tune with one another. I can't wait to read their book and everything about them.

I will say that the plot was jumpy at times, and we were moving from this point to the next super-fast, and about the halfway point it straightened out. This was such a raw read, and I can't wait to read more by her.

I was absolutely captivated by this for a whole host of reasons that are surprising me, a lot of which is skewed by my natural inclination to read darker stories, and with Jameson's introduction in chapter one I found myself drawn in and thinking the story was going to go in very different directions that would involve cheating and cat fights.

My assumptions were 100% off the mark and I found myself drawn in to Susan's inner turmoil as she tried to navigate the life that she wasn't sure she wanted to live, her relationship with her friends and family, and her discovery of the beauty of a found family.

I'm generally not a fan of instalove (quickest way to lose a star from me usually), but even though Susan and Billy fell fast, it wasn't the focus of the story--it really was the real, raw, coming to terms with life as Susan knew it and charting her own next chapter.

The beginning took a little time to get going, but once the story picked up, it really gained momentum.

Susan had always lived according to her parents' plan, but after meeting Billy, Sam, and Jameson—and experiencing a life-changing event—everything she thought she knew about herself is called into question.

This is a beautiful coming-of-age story that explores themes of found family, and I loved how the side characters felt just as significant as the main ones. The dynamic between the rich girl and poor boy adds an interesting layer to the narrative.

I really enjoyed this and would definitely recommend it.

Thank you to Lauren Monica and Book Sirens for an ARC copy of the book for an honest review.

From the beginning, when Jameson swooped in to defend Sam and the way he did it, I knew I was going to fall in love with these characters. As an avid romance reader, usually starting off like this would indicate the main love story is between those two. However, this is not the case and this book is so much more than just a romance story. Even though it’s told only from Susan’s POV and we see her find herself and grow her relationship with Billy, I feel the story was just as much about the family relationships with Jameson and Sam as well. I could feel the protectiveness they all had for each other and the way they all knew what each other needed without words. Even though you may struggle, as long as you have the people you love, it’s all worth it.
