But Gia is not all that she seems. A link to her past points to a lunatic whose desire to complete a bizarre collection has become an obsession. Now, Seven is locked in a game of greed and murder with a woman he can't entirely trust, and a killer who will silence anyone who gets in the way.

Das Auge der Athene - Ein mystisches Armband, das seinem Träger unvorstellbare Kräfte verleiht. Viele Legenden und Sagen berichten von diesem Schmuck, doch dann wird eine Perle aus dem Armband plötzlich bei einem Mord an einer Hellseherin gefunden. Die Detectives Seven und Erika, die an den Tatort gerufen werden, ahnen, dass dies kein normaler Mord ist. Eine wirkliche Spur fehlt ihnen allerdings. Den Fall einfacher macht auch nicht, dass eine weitere Hellseherin sich bei ihnen im Büro meldet und alles mit angesehen haben will – wo es doch eigentlich keine Zeugen gab. Und dann geschieht der nächste Mord und die Spur führt zu einem der einflussreichsten Männer der Region.

Eine Entdeckung jagt die nächste und die Mordfälle werden immer brutaler, dennoch ist an eine Aufklärung der Fälle nicht zu denken - „Das Auge der Athene“ ist ein Krimi, in dem keine Zeit für Langeweile beim Lesen bleibt. Nicht zuletzt auch, weil bestimmte Details erst zum Schluss offengelegt werden.

Besonders sympathisch ist die Hauptperson Detective Seven. Er ist ein ganz normaler Mensch mit seinen Ecken und Kanten, ohne aber, wie so viele Mordermittler mittlerweile, einem unglaublich krassem Trauma oder einer schwierigen Persönlichkeit. Auch die weiteren Personen werden sehr natürlich und lebensnah beschrieben, was das Vorstellen der Charaktere sehr leicht macht.

Geschrieben ist das Buch fast ausschließlich aus der Sicht eines allwissenden Erzählers. Bis auf die Passagen, in denen in das Innenleben des Mörders Einblick gewährt wird. Diese sind in der Du-Form geschrieben, was mir beim Lesen, doch einige Probleme bereitet hat, da man sich von der einen Erzählform auf die nächste Einstellen muss und die Formulierungen nach dem Schema „du tust etwas mit folgender Wirkung“ doch etwas ungewohnt ist. Zum Ende des Romans hin, hat man sich jedoch schon fast daran gewöhnt, so dass diese Passagen nicht mehr stark den Lesefluss hemmen.

Trotz des etwas eigenwilligen Stils, ist „Das Auge der Athene“ ein sehr spannender Kriminalroman mit einigen Elementen, die man nicht sofort mit dem Krimi-Genre verbinden würde. Allen, die sich sonst nicht so an Krimis herantrauen, kann ich deshalb dieses Buch nur empfehlen.

I really liked this. I would give it four and a half stars if I could. Definitely one of the better thrillers I have read. I like how I could not predict the murderer(s) and that the ending was not neatly tied up with all the characters riding off into the sunset with new romances, like in most Mira books. The psychic references made it interesting, but were not overdone. One of the best Mira books I've read, and I'm glad I picked it up. Fast paced, and it really held my interest well. I finished it in less than two days. I recommend it.

This was an interesting look at psychic abilities, obsession, and the murders that result from it. I enjoyed the story, although there seemed to be some unnecessary stabs at developing characters just so some of the plot lines could be tied together. I liked the mythological basis and the cultural tidbits that were thrown in.

plot was pretty predictable, but it's written in such a convincingly scary manner, that i was hooked and anxious through the entire book. this book made me realize i like to read thrillers much more than i like to watch thrillers. easier to skim through the scary and still get the point than it is with the fast forward button.

Pretty standard thriller fare. The twist ending was nicely done, I wasn't quite expecting it. The author pulled no punches on making the crime scenes gruesome and graphic.
