IN A WORLD ON THE BRINK, HOPE RISES. It's been fifteen years since the Medusa pandemic wiped out civilization, but the deadly virus continues to ravage the survivors - babies born to naturally immune mothers invariably die within days of their birth, calling into doubt the very survival of the human race.
And yet, hope persists.
Survivor Rachel Fisher, whose own past is tied to the origin of the apocalypse, now carries with her a cache of precious vaccine that will protect newborns from the virus. For the first time in years, there is promise of a future for all of them.
But as Rachel struggles with deciding who will receive the vaccine, the danger is never far behind. A mysterious man from Rachel's past knows she has the vaccine.
His vision for the serum is darker than Rachel can possibly imagine, and he will stop at nothing to find it.
The question of how a remnant of humanity secures the species’ survival after apocalypse is a thorny one offering a complex set of challenges and revealing character in ways different from the immediate aftermath. David Kazzie offers a fascinating look at such a landscape in his conclusion to The Immune series. Rachel Fisher returns as a richly drawn protagonist, carrying not only a vaccine that could save the human race but her own understandable trust issues that she has to overcome to get help distributing the vaccine effectively. We also get a range of fascinating new characters to follow in this compelling story of how human traits like empathy and power lust endure and shape the survivors of a near-extinction level event. The Rising is a real page-turner that fans of the series will enjoy and should entice newcomers to explore this world from the start in The Immune.
Is was thrilled when a new book in the Immune story came out. I was not disappointed. This book was filled with all of the things we desire from David Kazzie: A tight story with plenty of twists and turns; complex characters with very human needs and desires, a cause we can root for, and villains we can truly fear. I look forward to others of Kazzie’s work.
Another memorable Kazzie series, greatly enjoyed! Love that the ending embraced hope for the future after the devastating events of books 1 and 2. These events and adventures are totally believable along with the Fischer Family and their supporting characters. I think that Book 3 is the perfect ending for The Immune Series and I savoured every page 😊. If you like apocalyptic survival thrillers this one will not disappoint!
Great finish to an interesting trilogy on a post plague apocalypse.
This third and final installment in this apocalyptic trilogy was similar to the others, offering ups and downs on the journey.
This story picks up several years after book 2. As I have said in my previous reviews of the first two books, I feel this is a very plausible, apocalyptic story, and how it would unfold. After going through Covid, I don’t believe society could regulate itself without killing each other.
Every part of this story is about survival. I feel this story offers a good conclusion to the series and was a good read.
This set of 3 novels takes a long journey through death, despair, hope and human nature. Some of the story took a long time to tell but, in the end, the novels left you feeling as if it was a necessary journey. Without the many descriptive chapters, the deep emotions and introspection would not fully occur. It sits with you long after the pages have been read.
Quite a read on a terrible time. Covers all the B-NICE terrorist tools. Biological, nuclear. Icindiary, chemical and explosives. Throughout the tale one begins to lose hope. Evil is beaten by good and life moves forward. How did we get this way? How do we move forward today?
