The Road and the Rodeo #2

The Chances We Take

Rate this book
One thing has always been clear to Isabelle Bennett: she wants to find true love. She’s always been a hopeless romantic, losing herself in the pages of books when men in the real world inevitably disappoint. But she still dreams of finding her soulmate, and after meeting Reid Lawson, she wonders if she finally has.

Neither of them can deny the chemistry they feel. However, after a conversation gone wrong, they hide their feelings for each other, claiming there’s no way they could ever be more than friends. But when they work together as the best man and maid of honor in their best friends’ wedding, the sparks they’ve convinced themselves aren’t there continue to fly, their budding connection becoming evident to everyone except each other.

Reid built his walls to be impenetrable, never concerning himself with finding love. He always focused on taking care of others, whether that was raising his siblings or prioritizing the happiness of his friends. But when Isa, the girl he never thought he could have, breaks her way through the fortress around his heart, he questions whether the one thing he’s never believed in could be possible with her.

When the chance for true love is right in front of them, will they take it? Or will they continue to ignore their feelings, forcing the flame that burns between them to go out?

This was a solid 3.5 stars for me. I went into this one hearing so many wonderful things about book 1. I liked that even though I hadn't read book 1 yet, I didn't feel lost in this one. I really liked ALL of the characters and can tell that the rest of this series is going to be fun to read. I liked Isa's personality. She brought a sunshine aspect when you would normally see a grump. She was funny and personable. I also liked Reid= he seemed to be a quieter one of the bunch. I hated that a miscommunication had friend zoned them when there was such potential for them in the beginning. The whole book was a build up of are they friends or aren't they? Will they make a move or won't they? All along side they are helping planning Colter and Ellison's wedding which was fun to read about. All that being said the pacing still seemed a little off. I am all for a slow burn, but we didn't get our first ANYTHING until like 75% through the book. I liked how Isa was the only one that Reid really opened up to about his family struggles. I also liked how Reid got Isa to be a country girl- riding horses and roping. I also did enjoy the dual POV and dual timeline in this one. It's always fun to see things from the past IN the past.

Isa is excited to be helping her best friend get ready for her wedding. What she is still all mixed up about her feelings and thoughts around Reid. Reid who has become a good friend over the past year. But the same guy who she can't help wonder what could have been. They met a year or so ago at the rodeo and had this wonderful chemistry and dance together only for her to very clearly tell his friends she was just a friend. So that's what she has been. But the lines are getting blurred when he comes over to block someone flirting with her. Or wants to stand a little too close behind her to help with roping. Or opens up about things he doesn't talk to other people about. But she is too scared to put herself out there. She has made too many bad decisions when it comes to men. So Reid will very clearly stay in the friends zone. But then at the wedding things shift. She can't hide the way he is looking at her. So when he tells her how he really feels, how he has ALWAYS felt, she can't help but free fall with him. And it is blissful. She can't imagine her life any other way now that they have given in.

Reid doesn't know how to fix this situation he has found himself in. He has been friended by the girl he can't stop thinking about and it is all his fault. When the guys asked him about her at the rodeo a year ago, he didn't think she would be standing right there when he said what he did. But she did and he has been reliving that this whole time. He can't help how he feels. She makes him smile. She makes him want to be better. She makes him want to TRY. But he is hesitant to make a move because she never said if she felt any different. But when other men try to flirt with her he draws the line. He wants to be around her. He finds ways to do subtle touches with her. All of that comes to a head when his best friend tells him to figure it out OR someone else will get her. So at the wedding he decides to lay it out there. But the unexpected happens. Now isn't the time. Maybe it will never be their time. But then it happens- he confesses and instead of her rejecting him. She is all in. She also has always been wanting more. Why did they waste so much time?

Overall this was very cute and like I said I enjoyed the slow burn BUT I thought it was a tad tooo slow! I did like the chemistry these two had. The angst with friends to more is always so palpable because they don't want to lose the friendship. I liked how some heavier topics were discussed- I thought HK did a great job of handling those. I am looking forward to reading book 1 and any other books that come out of this world.

Thank you to HK for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This read was such a sweet love story! I love the group of friends. I loved Reid and Isa together. This was the perfect friends to lovers, which I am not a huge fan of this trope but really enjoyed it in this. They are incredible together and the way they love each other. It warms my heart.

I LOVED the first book in this series, this one was just not hitting it for me. I loved the friend group and how they fell in love while planning their best friend's wedding. I thought that was really cute. The slow burn was burning and I just wanted them together immediately due to their chemistry.

Thank you, H.K Green for this ARC for my honest review 😊 I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the rest of this series.

Just finished reading a book called, The Chances We Take. This is book 2 in this series and this story is about Isabelle, she's a hopeless romantic who just wants to find her true love, someone who wants her and chooses her like in the romance books she loves to read. When she meets Reid, she wonders if that someone could be him. But Reid isn't searching for love or happiness for himself, he's used to taking care of those around him so he spends his time making sure those he cares about are happy. When his friendship with Isabelle feels like it could be so much more, Reid wonders if she could ever see him as more than a friend. If they could find the courage to take a chance and voice their feelings for each other, the chances they take could lead to true love.
This was such a beautifully written friends to lovers story! These two were both such good characters with hearts of gold, I was rooting for them right from the start! I also loved that this story still involved all the characters from the first book, and we got to see their lives progress as well throughout this story! I'm really enjoying this series, and I'm so excited to read book 3! 🩷📚

THANK YOU H. K. GREEN FOR ALLOWING ME TO READ THIS eARC IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW!
Release Date: 07FEB2025

• My Reading Experience: So Good!!
• Book Spice: Level 2 (closed door modification at back of book)

This is book 2 in the “The Road and The Rodeo” series.

I absolutely LOVE the way that she writes her characters. Each person has a very distinct personality and a way of talking that is clear even without reading the character’s name.

I was kicking my feet, giggling, silent screaming, and laughing out load while reading this book.

I definitely recommend reading the books in order although each book covers a different couple.

I always leave her books wanting to look for my 1st rodeo to attend and see everything she describes in person. Seems so intriguing!

My only dislike is I feel that the ending was rushed and I wanted more interaction between the main characters before the story closed out.

4.5!!

I read this in one sitting! Wow. I was kindly sent an ARC of this wonderful book and it was a joy to read. I loved going into this book and there was a Rodeo Dictionary for someone, like myself, who’s inexperienced in the rodeo life. It really helps for easy imagery right of the bat that you can understand the language and makes you feel less isolated as someone with no experience in this life and it also doesn’t feel dumbed down either. I really loved the conversations between Reid and Isa throughout of the deeper things about the cowboy life and the familial element of that.

I loved how this didn’t follow your typical romance story “outline”. It was just so refreshing to see a relationship play out in a realistic fashion that’s months and years in the making, and isn’t rushed for plot reasons. It made me want to keep reading to find out just what the outcome could be because you didn’t know how it would end.

Now if spicy books aren’t your thing then don’t worry! At the back of the book there is a closed door modification where you can see exactly where the spice starts and end meaning if that’s something you’re not comfortable with then you know how far to go. It also means you don’t have to skip full chapters at a time and miss out on key points!

This feels like a book that has really been written by an author that cares for her readers and wants them to be able to enjoy her book by being open on the topics and not feel left behind.

I loved Reid and Isa, they are incredible together and so loving for one another. I thought the building of relationships was amazing, there was a lot of character development, and chemistry between the two! By far one of my favorite parts was the epilogue, and I’m normally an epilogue hater (sorry not sorry)! It is definitely a slow burn! Which just builds up for the story and development of caring for each other!

H K Green did it again with another beautifully written, heartwarming story of friendship, love, and growth. This is the second book of her The Road and The Rodeo series, and the series just keeps getting better. Isa is such a relatable and lovable character, and Reid is absolutely swoon worthy. I loved everything about this book, and I can't wait to read whatever comes next!

This story was such a cute way to see these characters again. The first book in the series was amazing, and seeing Colter and Ellison get married in this one was so special, but to have a new love story to read about and follow with both Reid and Isa🤍

Isa is what I feel like we all are sometimes, especially when reading romance novels. To get a chance to feel things and stories that we may not get to experience ourselves, Isa is me and I am Isa✨

I truly can’t wait until the next book to see these characters again! And hopefully get to see another one of these boys fall head over heels for a woman!

It took me maybe five pages—max—to fall completely in love with Isabelle and Reid. Their story? Pure sunshine. The kind that warms you up from the inside out.
Isabelle’s love for books (especially romance!) was so relatable. I especially love how she would read certain books for certain events during her life. Why not read a cowboy romance novel, whilst visiting cowboy Reid and their friend group? Obsessed! And Reid? The way he just got her without needing to change or challenge her interests—ugh, swoon.
I loved that their relationship started as a true friendship, where they just wanted to be in each other’s lives, even if love wasn’t guaranteed. (But let’s be real—we all knew they were meant to be. Just confess already!!)
This book had a little less cowboy/ranch energy than H.K. Green’s others, but honestly? Didn’t matter one bit. Isabelle and Reid’s connection was the heart of the story, and it was more than enough.
Soft, sweet, and impossible not to smile while reading—this book is a warm hug for the hopeless romantics.

The Chances We Take  - H. K. Green💗
 ✨ARC Review✨
⭐️-4
This book is the second book in H. K. Green’s series The Road and the Rodeos.

“Have you ever noticed that even in the most crowded rooms, he always finds you?”💕

Isa and Reid!!! Seriously this book had me wanting to go find my own little cowboy romance! Reid is everything you could want in a book boyfriend. He’s so caring, supportive, hot, strong, and completely head over heels for Isa. I’m not huge on slow burn romances but this one was so well written that you really got lost in the story of the friendships throughout the book and watching the character development instead of waiting for the spice. Don’t get me wrong though, once the spice started it was GOOD. I also really loved the friend group and the way they were a found family. They always had each other's backs and supported each other no matter what was going on. Watching the friendship between Isa and Ellison reminded me a lot of me and my best friend because we are always pushing each other to do things we know the other wants to do. Ellison knew early on how much Isa liked Reid and wanted her to be happy. The way Reid and Isa care for each other is like no other. They genuinely loved each other so much before they ever admitted their feelings.

I easily fell in love with Reid and Isa’s banter and flirting. There was no denying their chemistry especially when they were stuck planning their best friends’ wedding as maid of honor and best man. They were forced to spend time together and they built a really good friendship. Everyone around them could tell they were meant to be, but when they accidentally friendzoned each other at a rodeo, they both tried to suppress those feelings in order to plan the wedding and not make things awkward. This book follows along with their found family and finding someone you can lean on in the scary and hard things that life will throw at you.
I hope y’all enjoy Isa and Reid’s story as much as I did!

Well… I have to say… I’m not usually a friends to lovers kind of reader, but Reid and Isa had me in a CHOKEHOLD from page 1.

There’s just something so beautiful about two people who help cure the other’s past traumas and help them break down their walls.

Reid and Isa are the perfect match, and even though it’s obvious as day to their friends, they can’t seem to take the chance and step into love in fear of ruining the friendship. (been there, done that, completely understand).

There are SO many powerful quotes and moments in this book. I highly recommend it to everyone yearning to take the leap into love!

This was a lighthearted friends to lovers romance with a lot of rodeo scenes.

Sadly, it didn’t quite work for me. I love a slow burn but I just didn’t feel their connection and even them getting together didn’t feel that satisfying.

There were a lot of flashbacks, and I think not all of them were necessary. The same goes for some scenes that just felt like a lot of filler. The overall tone felt more YA to me than anything.

So even though it wasn’t my favorite, maybe others might enjoy the romance or rodeo parts!

I really enjoyed this book! Isa and Reid had a quiet, patient love and it was a joy to read this type of love. Sometimes you don’t need the big grand gestures of the intense sex you just need something simple and lasting and that is what Isa and Reid had, it took a while but they made it and it was beautiful to watch. I especially loved the ending where we got a peek into their life years later. H.K knocked it out of the park and I can’t wait for more from this series!

I love Reid and Isabelle. I loved their story and how they came to be. Reid had to work through things in his past but Isa was able to be there for him in the way he needed. Isa also had things to work through and Reid helped her with that. They were the perfect compliment to each other. This book left me wanting more and I hope to see more of them in future stories.

I loved this book! Even though I usually don't like the miscommunication trope, this one was done wonderfully. Not only were the characters funny, but they also complimented each other very well. I LOVEDDDD the first book, this one was just not a hit for me.

The slow burn was just a tad too slow for these main characters…

Don’t get me wrong, it was cute. The banter & tension were there. But the miscommunication and both of them having feelings and then just NOT doing anything about it from the beginning.

Found family• forced proximity • friends to lovers• instant connection but slow burn • cowboy

The Chances We Take ARC Review

i was very fortunate to receive an ARC of The Chances We Take by H.K. Green All opinions are my own and given freely. 🩷

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
🌶️🌶️/5

content warning: “this book is intended for adult readers and includes mature themes, on-page explicit sexual content, and explicit language. additional content warnings include: alcohol consumption, alcoholic parent, car accident (off-page, discussion), childhood trauma surrounding parental neglect, discussion of alcoholism, discussion of absent parent, discussion of deceased parent, emotional abuse, PTSD/flashbacks, rodeo events (team roping, tie-down roping, wild horse racing); no animals are injured, and ranching activities (branding, roping, vaccinations)”

“i’d always believed in true love—that everyone deserves their own happy endings. for a long time, i questioned whether i would get my own. but here in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere in montana, with the boy i’d loved for the past year, my worries melted away, and i just knew. this was the real thing. this love was true.”

after reading the pieces we’ve lost, i could not wait to read about isabelle and reid!! and with the chances we take being part of a series, i would recommend reading the pieces we’ve lost before diving into this book! i flew through this book! now this was probably the slowest slow burn i have ever read but i just couldn’t get enough, i never wanted it to end!! i also love the little rodeo 101 sections at the beginning of each book! it really allows those of us who are not too familiar with the rodeo lifestyle be able to not only understand what is happening but also imagine it. i also liked the dual timeline and thought it allowed us as readers to gain a better understanding of how reid and isabelle’s friendship/relationship grew over time.

isabelle and reid are everything to me! i am obsessed with them. reid was the most patient man and would have waited a lifetime for isa. their friendship was so sweet and genuine. and the chemistry and longing for each other was so sweet. but also, there were so many times where i just wanted to shake some sense into the both of them and make them realize what was in front of them! but when they finally gave into their emotions, it was perfection. when they're together, it all just makes sense.

i really loved getting to know and fall in love with these characters!! i cannot wait to read hk’s future work!! and once again thank you so much for giving me the chance to read the chances we take early! 🩷

I read the ARC of “The Chances We Take”. This is the 2nd book in the Road and the Rodeo series. This book is very different to the first one, I personally thought. I really struggled to get into the 1st one and felt I was forcing my way through it however I did NOT have an issue with this book. I read this book in 2 days I enjoyed it THAT much!

The characters are very likeable. Isabelle is a relatable character - she’s a hopeless romantic who dreams about having her fairytale ending like in the books she reads. I liked that she keeps it real with what the dating scene is actually like and that it does seem unlikely to find love like the ones we read about. Reid is a people pleaser and ensures everyone around him is happy before putting his needs first. I feel this is why Isa and he work so well together, they just fit.

This book is not your classic cowboy romance book, a lot of it takes place at the rodeo and has a lot of rodeo themes compared to other cowboy books where it’s a lot of ranch life. That life does appear in this book as well as branding however the rodeo is one of the main locations.

There is a lot of yearning and shying away from feelings making the spice late into the book. With that, there is only a few open door descriptions and it’s not too detailed so I’d give the spice level 2.5🌶️. What I did like was, the author included a part in the breakdowns of the book to completely skip the open door spice if you so choose. You would go to the back of the book and see where it starts from so you know when to skip. I think that’s a great idea, especially for those who don’t like spice in romance books.

I liked guessing who the next book could be about and the story behind it. I personally think it will be Jake as we saw more of him and a potential love interest in this story. This book has got me excited about the series continuing. I would read this book again and I will be recommending to all my followers on my booktok.

HK Green states that this book is a standalone however it is best to read “The Pieces We’ve Lost” first as this book take place after they events. You can read the 1st book on KU currently.

It is very rare I cry at books however this book had me SOBBING!!

The little guy in me that always wanted to be in the rodeo loved reading this. I did not get the chance to read book one in this series, but I never felt like I was lost reading this. I can see where reading book one would be beneficial, getting to know more of Ellison and Colter’s story, but it wasn’t needed to read and enjoy this book. This is one of those romance books where you are yelling at the main characters to just talk and be honest with each other. If they did, this would be a much shorter book. I did enjoy the way that this book was laid out. We would get some of the present, the planning of the wedding and the main characters talking as the best of friends. Then we get chapters where we get the to see the development of their relationship from the very beginning. This was such a cute story of two people and knowing that sometimes its worth it to take the chance and say what you are feeling.

I really enjoyed both of the main characters, as well as their friends. The group as a whole were such a tight group that really cared for each other. You could see the chemistry between Isa and Reid from the start. I loved the way that they interacted with each other, their flirting and banter. Reid is the perfect example of the gentleman cowboy. He is sweet and so in love with Isa. But because of one statement to his friends that were ragging him, both think that they will never have the love of the other. I always get so anxious reading a slow burn, and this is definitely a slow burn, but I enjoyed reading the history of these two. I enjoyed their friendship. I thought that these characters were ones that the reader really could connect to. It made the book read at such a good pace and I never lost interest.

This was a cute book and I love the rodeo aspect. There was spice towards the latter part of the book but I thought the author did such an interesting thing by providing a closed door modification for people who don’t want the super spicy scenes. It makes it so everyone can enjoy this story. This was a sweet story that I enjoyed reading. I loved the different rodeo scenes and events and the story between Isa and Reid was heart warming.

This book was super cute. I loved getting to see more of Ellison and Colter as they are in quite a bit because of their wedding.

Isa is sweet and bubbly, but she can also be quiet. She as used to ranch and rodeo life, but she gets in there for her best friend and for Reid. She loves book and is a hopeless romantic. I related to Isa in the way that she always felt like she was a stepping stone for people. She wasn't the girl that was anyone's first pick and I relate to that so much. Also, always having to be the bubbly, fun girl around everyone because that's what they are expecting. It can get exhausting. I just loved though how she loved her family, friends and Reid to her core and cares so deeply about the people in her life.

Reid. Wow. I have never related to a MMC more than I did Reid Lawson. His past is heartbreaking and I can relate to it. My mother and I don't have the best relationship. We went through a period of not talking and now things are as good as they are going to get. Our situations were a bit different but just the emotions he has towards his mom I fully know. Also, the not talking about it because people won't understand, you don't want to burden anyone, you can handle it yourself, or because you simply just don't want to. I just have never related so deeply before. He also loves his people blood related or not. He cares and he works hard because he's always had to. He didn't get to be a kid. Watching him finally open up to Isa was beautiful and seeing the arc blossom with his mother was wonderful and also one I can relate to.

Isa and Reid together were just cute. Friends turned lovers. These two were a lot alike in a lot of ways, but also different but that's what made them so good together. They helped each other and balanced each other out.

This series is so good. This group of friends, Mikey still being crazy, the rodeos. And the wedding. Of it was beautiful. I loved reading about it. Hanna walking Ellison down the aisle, their vows it was just so perfect and sweet. The friendship between Isa and Ellison is just so deep and beautiful I love them.

"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take."

I was lucky to receive an ARC of H.K. Green's newest book, The Chances We Take (book two in The Road and The Rodeo Series). It follows the story of Isabelle and Reid.

I have not so patiently been waiting to read Isabelle and Reid's story since first meeting them in The Pieces We've Lost.

I thought Isabelle and Reid were perfect together and enjoyed learning more about them, including their pasts and watching their friendship progress.

I adored Isabelle. I found her relatable when she said she felt like a stepping stone for people and felt like she was not anyone's first choice and always forgotten about when someone better came along. There is nothing worse than feeling like you are not good enough. I am glad Reid showed Isabelle that to him, she is so much more.

I loved Reid. He is protective of those he loves and has a heart of gold. My heart broke for him after learning about his past as a child. I am in awe of his strength after everything he has endured. While our situations with our mothers were a bit different, I could relate to him not talking about it with people because they would not understand, or not wanting to burden anyone else with your problems, and handling it yourself. Seeing him open up to Isabelle melted my heart.

I loved the rodeo aspect of the book and thought the author did an excellent job educating you about the rodeo lifestyle and the sport.

The jumping dual timeline did become frustrating to me after a while, and the ending felt rushed. I wish you got to see more of Isabelle and Reid's relationship once they got together in the book, including how they navigated being in a long-distance relationship as a new couple.

Besides that, I enjoyed The Chances We Take and thought it was a good book.

I can not wait to see who the next book is about!

Thank you so much to H.K. Green for this ARC 🤍

Let me tell you, I love me a good slow burn , but oh my goodness when you add a good cowboy and rodeo romance and mutual pining and friends to lovers combo with patient love I fell in love! You have no idea 🥂🩷 Let me tell you Reid and Isabelle story was such a combination is curiosity and match made that had me persuaded page by page. 📃

Reid, is such a mighty man for me, like oh my wow 😆 He is a person who has his walls up, so when reading about a main male character that has such dynamic boundaries whether it’s staying guarded around his feelings, guarded about his siblings, friends and family, or just in general prioritizing the feelings of others around himself was definitely interesting and an emotional read! Now, Isabelle character in this lovely story is full of charm and a hopeless romantic character that I loved due to her being empathetic and charismatic as well due to her being 🥰 a person that falls in love sees men in a this character in a book aspect or a charmer aesthetic instead of a real word version which is kind of cute/hilarious in its own way because when she meets Reid she trying to find her own real world prince charming! Basically hopeful to find her own soulmate, instead of hiding behind the pages, dreaming!! Overall, when reading 📖 The Chances We Take, I fell in love with story of having fun, having laughs, and the theme that it taught and captured the moments of banter, friendships, vulnerability, connections, and to stay a hopeless romantic!!! 🌷🩷

Thank you so much H.K. Green for the gifting me an early ARC of The Chances We Take 🥂! When reading and choosing to indulge in your series it wasn’t only for the cowboy and slow burn romance, even though that was a lovely plus! I fell in love with the development of the characters and seeing how each page allowed new connections and emotions to unwind and shine! Thank you, and happy release 😆🥳

In this book we can read the story of another couple in this group of friends in the Rodeo world.
For those of us who love the found family trope this book is perfection. We have good friends and a lot of interactions with them, and a sense of friendship and belonging.
Here we follow Reid and Isa's story. After meeting through the previous couple (Colter and Ellison) they actually become good friends. They are there for each other and enjoy each other's company many times above everything else.
But how they didn't see what was right in front of them amazes me. It was so trapnsparent the feelings the longing, the angst, the love. They were truly meant to be. But being by afraid that the feelings weren't matched they stayed silent.

"Love is messy. It’s imperfect and complex, but with the right person by your side, love could get you through anything."

With Isa I actually believe that every girl who was ever friend zoned, even if once, could relate to her. That feeling of never being enough, and of never achieving that happiness and being someone's priority was related in such a good way. But thankfully some things aren't forever and even when she belived she was not enough, Reid secretly wanted her as well.
Reid was that next door guy, with a good vibe and an enormous heart. He always put other people first because he is trully a caretaker. He gets happy when the people he loves are happy.
After the slowest bur ever they ended up admiting to one another what they felt. They took a chance on their love.

"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take."

Prepare to be roped into a fantastic love story (pun intended) with The Chances We Take, the latest addition to The Road and The Rodeo series. This heartwarming romance follows the swoon-worthy cowboy, Reid Lawson, and the beautiful, bubbly, Isabelle Bennett as they navigate the whirlwind of wedding planning for their best friends. It's a classic friends-to-lovers story that delivered all the wonderful tension and heartfelt moments I love in a romance novel.

From the first chapter, our main characters stand out as relatable and real. By chapter two, I personally, was in love with Reid and Isa's dynamic. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and their slow-burn romance is filled with enough pining and tender moments that I was giggling and kicking my feet pretty much continuously!

One of the strengths of the novel is its realistic portrayal of relationships. H.K. Green masterfully captures the highs and lows of love, making the story feel both genuine and relatable. As I was reading, I often found myself thinking about how much I saw myself in these characters, and being as character driven as I am, I LOVED that!

Overall, The Chances We Take is a refreshing and realistic romance that has left me anxiously waiting for the next book in The Road and The Rodeo series. If you love yourself an endearing cowboy romance, saddle up (sorry not sorry) and get ready for a love story that will absolutely melt your heart.

I absolutely fell in love with this book. I read The Pieces We've Lost and was instantly a fan of H.K. Green's writing style. As soon as I started reading this one I was hooked just like last time. I loved that all the characters are back together to help Colton and Ellison prepare for their wedding. I loved that we got to continue their journey in this book. Their story was so beautiful.

Isabella "Isa" Bennett is Ellison's best friend and maid of honor. Isabella is a hopeless romantic and finds herself falling in love in books and just disappointed in real life. But when Reid and Isa are put together to help with wedding planning they can feel the chemistry between themselves. They have been like best friends for awhile now but could they be more?

Reid is Colton's best friend and Best Man. He's also the one that's always taking care of everyone else but himself. Reid had a tough childhood and he needs to heal from his past. Will Isa be able to help him heal and move on from things he can't change? Will he open up to her?

This was such a great story about friendships, found family, and love. I definitely had some good laughs in this book from Mickey's character. He's some kind of special. LOL..You will swoon, smile, feel some emotions but in the end your heart will be filled with happiness. This is such a great series and I can't wait to see whats next.

Thank you H.K. Green for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.

Isabelle & Reid are friends…well sort of, maybe? Introduced by their respective best friends Ellison & Colter and thusly dubbed maid of honor and best man for their upcoming nuptials, Isa & Reid must navigate their feelings, dramas, and traumas to help their friends. Both are “put everyone else first,” problem-solver friends to those they care about, both are patient and genuine, and BOTH are guilty guilty guilty of falling victim to some serious miscommunication and biting of their tongues. Past and present events throughout this story impact how Reid and Isa handle each other and how everyone else around them can see all they need is a little push to take a chance on something real with one another.

Unfortunately, the approach to intimacy in both novels and the epilogue to this novel did not do it for me as a reader. There are options to read both books with closed door adjustments, which is very thoughtful, but I am not typically affected by the inclusion of this kind of content. I’m left feeling like I missed so much vital and healthy build up to launch after everything else was low and slow and then had to skip over some incredibly important life events to catch up to the many years time jump.

Strong 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
H.K. Green shows a lot of growth as an author in their second publication, The Chances We Take! I did read The Pieces We’ve Lost (Ellie & Colt) before diving in to Isa & Reid’s story. Thank you to the author for an ARC and the opportunity to review!

What an enchanting love story! This captivating tale is the second installment in the Road and Rodeo series, where we once again meet Isabelle and Reid, who first captured our hearts in The Pieces We Lost.

Isabelle and Reid's friendship blossoms as they navigate the whirlwind of their best friends' impending wedding. Despite their undeniable chemistry, they hesitate to act on their feelings, fearing it might jeopardize their friendship. As they dive deeper into wedding preparations, their connection intensifies, ultimately leading them to embrace the love that was always meant to be.

Filled with humor and heart, this story beautifully illustrates the evolution of friendship into romance. Reid’s lively group of friends adds a delightful layer of chaos and humor, making their banter utterly hilarious. The alternating perspectives of Reid and Isabelle offer readers an intimate glimpse into their thoughts and emotions, enhancing our understanding of their journey. The seamless transitions between past and present enrich the story, weaving together the fabric of their friendship.

The vivid descriptions of Montana, especially the breathtaking Glacier Park, transport you right into the heart of the park.

If you have a passion for cowboys, romance, and the charm of friends transforming into lovers, this book—and the entire series—is not to be missed!
