Joshua T. Calvert has traveled the world--on foot, by Jeep, by bicycle, by motorcycle, and lots of other ways besides. As you might imagine, he's seen many things most people never see - including an Iranian prison cell, from the inside! In Kyrgyzstan, he fared slightly better, narrowly avoiding being kidnapped for ransom. Skydiver, scuba diver, martial artist, adventurer - his goal is to experience everything possible, and then make it real to you in his books. And he's made a good run of it so far: in the Philippines, he did police training on multiple types of firearms (despite being no fan of guns himself); dove in Asian waters among sharks and shipwrecks; and patrolled with Sumatran jungle rangers.

That's what defines Calvert's approach to method writing: pushing himself beyond his own limits, to experience first-hand what his characters experience, to make your immersion in his stories as deep as it can be.

For Ganymede Rises, after a slight detour with some smugglers in the deserts of Uzbekistan and the steppes of Mongolia, he traveled by dogsled and snowshoe to the Arctic Circle to experience first-hand what it's like to be utterly isolated in the coldest place on Earth. For his book The Fossil, he sat with professional pilots in flight simulators for Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft to learn what it's like to fly a passenger jet. His latest adventure: a parabolic flight with European Space Agency astronauts, to experience zero-gravity. All so he can describe it to you, in his own words.

A tour de force in scfi written by an exceptional writer

These four books were exhilarating, exciting as well as being perplexing. The story line actually follows four stories about three or four different that were masterfully entwined in book four. I found the ending, however, to be disappointing in that Jennas’ nefarious murders prevailed.(This disappointment was somewhat mitigated by the exploits of Lee, the astronaut.) Jenna, the main protagonis and ultimate heroine was portrayed mostly as a murderer who ultimately won out, herein lies the disappointment.
This melding of the characters does not take away, however, from Joshua Calverts’ in depth research and creative writing. I recommend these tomes and maybe other readers will come to a different conclusion.

Simply exceptional !

The Meteor 4 is the satisfying conclusion to the exceptional Meteor series by Joshua Calvert. The pacing, characters, dialog and every aspect of the writing is everything you expect when you read a Joshua Calvert book. Questions are answered satisfactorily, with a couple left to make you think. Not all is as it seems, the INE between good and bad actors becomes blurred. The book is full of surprises I'm not going to spoil for you. I'll just say its a more than goid finale. Deserves 6/5 stars, but I'll have to settle for giving it 5/5. This is one of the best sci-fi I've read in years. EVERYONE needs to read this series. Highly, highly recommended!!

Excellent combined hard SciFi and action Sci Fi

I still prefer really good hard SciFi that doesn’t lean on preposterous technology as a prop. This series combines good hard and creative hard SciFi (alien fungal infection that can affect human behavior) plus a lot of good action, Good characters and their development too. Well done, thoroughly enjoyable.

overall entertaining but with some flaws

Overall entertaining but needed editing. Very sloppy with military terms and little gaps in the narrative as conversations that were disconnected/unlikely dialog choices. That said I appreciate the creativity, the plot twists, different main character story lines and the action.

Great Read!

I truly enjoyed The Meteor series. Joshua Calvert did another outstanding job in this series, culminating in The Meteor 4. All of the main characters were enjoyable to follow throughout this series with some great surprises at the end of this series. A really great read!

longer than needed

As a story, this series flows smoothly enough.

My issue is that much of the story is needless and doesn’t really add much to the over all tale

This series could have been a single more cohesive and compelling book, but the author writes simply to write and not to creates the best story.

Drags….

Ok, I got sucked in by the first two books, endured book three, then went on to book four in anticipation of a big reveal/ending and was left with blah. Don’t do it, please don’t anyone else make the same mistakes that I did.

The Meteor

Excellent series by Mr. Calvert. The characters with their twisting and turning kept me reading till the end. Read all four books in 3 weeks. Between Jenna and Lee, they always kept their heads together and accomplish their goals.

Rest four book read

You definitely find it hard to put down after you start the adventure. It is very intriguing to see more science possibilities with fungus both for problems and cures. Great read and not your usual science fiction.

conclusion?

We shall see if Book Four ends this tale or whether the new “Yuri” reignites the Initative. Will Earth defeat the fungi invader or will a new Cassandra arrive at the scene?
