Shana Dow writes romantic fantasy for readers who crave emotional depth, magical adventures, and fairytales with a twist. Her books are rooted in slow-burn romance, found family, and fierce heroines discovering their destiny.

She’s the author of the Realms of Fabled Truth series, where five foster sisters are swept into an enchanted world—and into the center of a prophecy that could save or shatter it. Her stories reimagine beloved fairy tales with rich worldbuilding, heartfelt themes, and no spice—just swoony, tension-filled romance.

A homeschool mom of four boys, Shana draws inspiration from the beautiful chaos of everyday life. When she’s not writing, she’s probably sipping something warm, watching K-dramas, or dreaming up new ways to weave heart and magic into her stories.

📚 Whispers of a Broken Vow, the series prequel, and The Promise of an Unraveled Thread, a Rumpelstiltskin retelling, are available now.

I haven't read YA in a very long time, admittedly, but this was a delight from start to finish. Dow has truly gorgeous prose. Each page contains vivid, descriptive imagery that absolutely comes alive, and, in turn, breathes life into all her characters -- especially Beryl, the FMC, Matthew, the charming farmer/puppet carver, and her brother, Josiah. I really loved Matthew from the moment he was introduced, and enjoyed the uniqueness of his profession, and how it played into his love story with Beryl. Their story ends in a way that makes you whole-heartedly root for them, and pray that everything turns out in their favor.

This is a quick and sweet little read, and filled with the aches and relatability of feeling trapped, as well as the delightful trope of forbidden love. Definitely check this out if you're in the mood for some YA fantasy!

This is the first book in the Realms of Fabled Truth series. It tells the backstory of Beryl, all the pressures she feels from the temple and her unhappiness with her life's direction. She meets a boy and sees a different future but it requires hard choices.

I was engrossed in the story right away and loved meeting these characters and what makes them tick. The book flew by and I'm excited to see where the rest of the series leads.

I was given an ARC by the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

In Whispers of a Broken Vow, a magical fae fights the vows that bind her in the name of true love, discovering a larger purpose - and power - in the process. It’s not only a story of good versus evil, but one of oppressive control versus freedom of choice. I especially liked how the temple’s stifling rituals versus the true wishes of the Eternal mirrored so well the struggle many have between the dogma of organized religion and personal faith in the real world. I look forward to what comes next in The Promise of an Unraveled Thread!

This was a low spice fade to black fantasy romance. The world building was amazing, and even though the story ended in a cliffhanger, there is a feeling of resolution at the end of this book. I love how strong both of the main characters were, and how their characters continued to grow as the story unfolded!

I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for the next book in the series! Once I started I could not put it down! The author’s descriptive language pulled into another world and the character development hooked me instantly! I’ll be holding my breath until the next book is released!
