A compilation of the fascinating legends associated with the twelve Jyothirlingas.
The book instantly draws you in because of its fascinating subject matter. As someone deeply in awe of all things Shiva and the captivating beauty of temples, there was no way I could resist picking it up. It delves into the origin legends of the twelve Jyotirlingas, connecting their diverse variations. The author begins with a concise introduction that explores the sources of these tales, setting the tone for what's to come. As a bonus, the book also features a chapter packed with intriguing facts about each temple.
What I Loved - This was the perfect read to kick off the New Year—not just for me, but for my entire family. The book sparked lively discussions, with everyone sharing their thoughts and adding personal anecdotes about these timeless tales. It was a wonderful way to connect across generations. What truly stood out to me were the illustrations of each temple. Rendered in a casual yet thoughtful style, they captured the architectural essence beautifully, enhancing the reading experience.
What Could Be Improved - I felt the storytelling could have been more concise. The repetitive sentences and sentiments occasionally disrupted the flow, pulling me out of the narrative. Additionally, some of the tales felt disconnected, lacking a clear timeline or context. With no proper beginning, ending, or connection to the main thread in certain sections, the storytelling might be challenging for readers unfamiliar with these legends. Although I could piece the stories together, a more streamlined approach would have made the book more impactful.
Overall, this was a rewarding read, especially for those fascinated by temples and mythology. I would highly recommend it to anyone who shares this interest. I truly hope the author continues to explore similar topics in future books—there’s so much potential in stories about the Shaktipeethas, the Navagraha Circuit in Tamil Nadu, or the Pancha Ishwarams in Sri Lanka. Fingers Crossed!
