Hearts and Homesteads

Rate this book
In the close-knit Amish community of Charm, Pennsylvania, two widowed neighbors guard their hearts as carefully as they tend their farms. Rebecca Yoder struggles to keep her late husband's land productive while raising their daughter Mary alone. Next door, Isaac Lapp focuses on caring for his young daughter Elizabeth, trying to fill the void left by his beloved wife's passing.

Their children's friendship draws them together, but old hurts and missed chances stand between them. Rebecca and Isaac were once childhood sweethearts until a land dispute and misunderstandings drove them apart. Now, as they help each other recover from a devastating hailstorm that threatens both their livelihoods, long-buried feelings begin to resurface.

But with Isaac considering a move to Ohio to provide a better life for Elizabeth, and Rebecca's fierce independence keeping her rooted to her land, it might take more than their daughters' matchmaking schemes to show them that love can bloom again. As the seasons change in Lancaster County, will these two wounded hearts find the courage to embrace a second chance at happiness?

A heartwarming tale of faith, family, and the enduring power of first love, Hearts and Homesteads reminds us that Gott's plan often works in mysterious ways—sometimes through the innocent wisdom of children.

Very sweet story!

This is a lovely second chance romance. The little girls, Mary and Elizabeth, were so sweet, particularly in their eargerness to match their widowed parents. Who just happen to have been childhood sweethearts, but without either of them realising how the other felt. Life carried them in different directions, but that was not the end of their story. Enjoy!

Cute little story. At times it can be hard to follow because of the way it's broken up into sections but still a nice read all the way around
