On his Hawaiian honeymoon, a jilted groom wakes up in the arms of his best man.
Ethan Lavallee's life revolves around two hockey and hockey.
When his fiancée leaves him at the altar, his best bro and D-partner, Jean-Luc Bergstrom, whisks him away on what should have been his honeymoon.
Their easy friendship has always been the one relationship he could count on, but suddenly, sharing a bed in a romantic Hawaiian villa has Ethan questioning everything he thought he knew about himself.
As his feelings for Jean-Luc evolve from friendship to something more, Ethan must decide if he’s brave enough to risk their partnership on and off the ice for a chance at real love.
A steamy gay m/m friends-to-lovers dual POV romance novel featuring a double bi-awakening and a Hawaiian honeymoon with only one bed.

Chapter one: I kept screaming, "Run!" in my head. 🤣 And that was BEFORE shit hit the fan. 🤣 Ethan (Lele) is an adorably oblivious himbo with horrible fashion sense. In Jean-Luc's words (Ethan has) "the fashion sense of a blind beaver let loose in an airport duty-free store." Jean-Luc (Bergie) is his D line partner and best friend. Ethan & Jean-Luc's personalities go so well together, and more often than not, I found myself grinning like a fool at the dialogue between them. Jean-Luc is very overprotective of Ethan, way more than most 'straight best friends.' But it's very endearing. After Jean-Luc decides to go on Ethan's honeymoon with him, so he doesnt have to go alone, they decide to 'lean in' to the fact that everyone thinks they are a couple on their honeymoon. Pet names are adopted, and the already close, cuddly duo become even moreso. When things start to heat up, Ethan and Jean-Luc could burn the villa down with how hot it gets, putting the volcanos in Hawaii to shame. Ethan and Jean-Luc are perfect together. Jean-Luc, with his suave, sophisticated flity air. Ethan, with his insecurity and oblivious nature. This is a light-hearted read that left me grinning, giggling, and face palming all the way through!
DNF @ 55% I first didn't think much of it, but then I saw the author having an AI generated profile pic and now I'm quite sure some things in this book can be explained by AI being used in the writing. First of all: I was excited about idiots to lovers and jocks being oblivious, and the opening scene where Ethan gets left at the altar was absolutely hilarious, the romcom vibes were top tier. But then it shifts - the writing style feels off, and I thought it might be because I don't particularly like third person narrators AND one MC's name was Jean-Luc, and it was repeated really, really often, almost defiantly without a nickname. The writing style just sounded rough and bumpy. I also don't think the book has seen an editor or beta readers, otherwise someone would have noticed how compulsory heterosexuality was called competitive heterosexuality - which is another sign for me, that this might be an AI prompt gone wrong (since it is usually abbreviated by comp.). The switching styles from a romcom to whatever that mess was, where the two dude-bros suddenly realize they're queer and literally like 10 on page seconds later they're into a full blown (lol) dom/sub dynamic and it just doesn't read like men having their first time with another man?? This also is an AI red flag in my eyes. Aaaalso, there's a really awful sentence that finally made me DNF, that could also be AI. The women in this book are portrayed super negatively and are awful characters altogether (from the cheating fiancée to another weird ex), but one MC's grandma literally said "The best way to get rid of a girl is to tell her she needs to be fattened up. No girl wants that." and I really, really can't believe a woman wrote that. Maybe it isn't AI, but those for sure are reasons not to read that book.
It wasn't what I was expecting. I thought it would be more of a sweet awakening of bisexuality between two best friends and teammates. The problem was that it was all over the place with trying to be sweet but also not. Editing needed to start on chapter 2. I was confused by the nicknames or lack of them. The ending was boring, and I almost fell asleep. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my ARC.
Ethan….ethan ethan ethan ethan. he was so perfect, i loved everything about him. (he’s the reason why this has five stars, jean-luc was kind of an asshole but ethan makes up for it)
they were subtly toxic but i kinda love that for them. jean-luc was something…..ethan was definitely something…..honestly they could’ve had a big conversation and avoided most of their problems but hey what do i know. Ethan’s brother, Connor, was so funny kinda wish we saw more of him! Ethan’s entire family is funny actually, the wedding scene kinda had me giggling and the fact that they all had a backup plan if Ethan got cold feet LOL. They both had nice supportive families.
Ethan was soooooooooooo sweet, you kind of felt bad for him like he’s literally just a baby what does he know? Oh to have a friend like Jean-Luc. Ethan really lucked out because Jean-Luc is perfect for him. Was honestly glad when Jean-Luc got a taste of his own medicine. I really liked them together!
Not totally understanding the mixed reviews on this one…I thought it was fun!!
Ethan is a total himbo and oblivious of all things, which made the miscommunication more fun. I loved his and Jean Luc’s relationship. Jean Luc definitely has layered and it was nice to see him work through his baggage and I appreciated his realization of his feelings for Ethan. His protectiveness and steadiness made their relationship better. Both of their jealousy jumping out was hysterical. Loved the honeymoon setting. Appreciated the meddling family and friends. Wish some side characters were shown more/ a bit more fleshed out, and that we got to spend more time with them as teammates pre/post relationship. But still enjoyed the overall premise and story.
Solid smutty romance debut. Excited to see what this author does next.
Oslo is a new author and this is the first book I've read from her. I love reading for new authors and watching their growth and I’m excited to see what Oslo has in store for us.
I didn’t read the blurb before reading. I was intrigued by the title. I’m so glad I didn’t because it was fun not knowing what was going to happen, and I loved this book.
The legend at the beginning of the book was awesome! I didn’t have to stop and look up words that I didn’t know. Amazing idea! And such a time saver.
This is only Oslo’s 2nd book (as far as I know) and it was great! It’s very well written and the characters were so adorable. Ethan and Jean-Luc were so funny and relatable. Even Ethan’s little quirks were endearing.
One of my favorite tropes is bi-awakening and in this book we get a double and it was awesome! I enjoyed the story and the back and forth banter between the MMCs as well as the intimate scenes. Overall I really liked this book. I have my fingers crossed that Connor is next!!
I’ll definitely be reading Oslo’s other published book and watching for her next project.
D*mn! I was so excited for this. I love hockey romance and I love best-friends-to-lovers bi-awakening... but the issue is, if you're going to write a book that has been done many many times in a competitive market, it has to be good. I can think of over a handful of similar books that did this better, authors Loren Leigh, Eden Finley, and Ana Ashley topping that list.
This book needs to be edited and try to figure out if it's trying to be low-angst or dramatic and then get republished.
Heat Factor: Once they start having it, it’s mostly sex.
Character Chemistry: I mean, they’re besties, and they were extremely invested in each other, but not communicating was part of the problem, so the middle didn’t include much emotional growth to get us to the end
Plot: Ethan and his best, co-dependent hockey bro, Jean-Luc, go on Ethan’s non-refundable honeymoon after he gets dumped at the altar
Overall: It was really exactly what I wanted it to be when I picked it up, but it’s not a huge stand-out in the extremely saturated M/M hockey romance sphere
Did I pick this book up entirely on the strength of the title? I did. Oblivious best friends in an essentially queerplatonic relationship who figure out the “platonic” part isn’t actually something they want because they’re actually romantically and sexually attracted to the other person is a storyline I frequently go for because I trust that it’s going to be a feel-good romance.
In that respect, this book totally delivered. Did I like the characters? I did. Did I get bored by the story? I did not. Did the story provide the expected warm fuzzies? It did. Do I regret spending time reading it? I do not. Net positive reading experience.
If we want to get a little deeper, though, I can say more.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. We disclose this in accordance with 16 CFR §255.
Ethan has been building up to this wedding for weeks, so when his fiancé's lover objects to the wedding he almost feels relief and goes on his Hawaiian honeymoon with his best friend and ice hockey D-partner Jean-Luc to get away from everything.
Ethan is paranoid and is worried he'll end up lonely, so asks Jean-luc to help him while they are on their romantic Hawaiian honeymoon. They share a kiss (for research purposes) which is earth shattering to them both. Insert bi-awakening for both guys. Can their friendship last, has the kiss ruined their friendship and potentially their NHL partnership or will something else flourish?
I liked the ease of this book. I felt like the pacing was spot on for a shorter book.
There was a lot of miscommunication from both MMCs ("I don't think he is into me", "I don't think he's bi, he's just practicing", "I love him, but he won't be able to handle this, so I can be heartbroken, I'll manage it") which is actually key to this story and how I imagine a bi awakening with a best friend may go. They are both uncertain of the others feelings as it's the first time either have expressed anything other than being best friends. It did drag on just a little though and would have preferred if they'd actually just spoke!
I loved how their families were betting on how long it would take them to get together and discussing their future relationship all while the 2 MMCs were oblivious to the fact.
The unintentionally sub/dom aspect, I thought, was written well and the fact that neither MMC had really noticed this about their relationship (even as friends) was amusing. I didn't however like how Ethan couldn't even decide what to eat without Jean-Luc and having to eat the same dinner for 9 days straight was a bit extreme.
Overall a fun enough read, the 2MMCs were oblivious throughout the book which amused me.
Thank you Oslo Fox, BooksGoSocial and Netgallery for the ARC in return for my honest opinion.
Ethan Lavallee, a young professional hockey player, gets spectacularly left at the altar on his wedding day. At his best friend and teammate Jean-Luc's suggestion, they go on the honeymoon meant for Ethan and his bridezilla Madison. Ethan essentially dodged a missile by not marrying her.
Ethan and Jean-Luc (aka Bergie) are in love with each other. Ethan is in denial or more like clueless, but Bergie is more self-aware in that he is willing to question his feelings for Ethan and delve a little deeper than Ethan is. Bergie is kind of a player and open to experiencing both sexes romantically. Men & women are attracted to the gorgeous Bergie. Ethan is a virgin with regard to experiencing relationships--he has only slept with Madison.
If I were to use one word to emotionally describe Ethan, it would be "constipated." Had he faced the reality of his relationship with Madison, he wouldn't have been embarrassed at the church. He figures things out slowly, but once he does, it's not a lightbulb moment but more like the sun blasting through dark clouds moment.
In their relationship, Ethan is literally a submissive and Bergie the dominant one. Since there is only one bed in the honeymoon suite, and moments of longing between the two, it doesn't take till the near end of the book for them to become intimate.
I enjoyed the book and would recommend reading it. Ethan is adorable but I wished that he would have been more aggressive with Bergie and life in general--sometimes he came across as just a doormat.
Queer awakenings have my whole entire heart, and bestie queer awakenings are particularly fun because all of the close family members always say “I knew it!” Adorable. There wasn’t a ton of hockey in this book but it did clearly permeate their lives so I wasn’t upset by that decision.
I do hate the way the besties (especially Ethan) became single, but there had to be a catalyst to get them to open their eyes to each other. I also love the “I used to do *insert queer sex act* and what do you mean you didn’t also do that?!” trope that queer awakenings sometimes have and this one did not disappoint.
Oooh, the side characters were just as strong as the hockey D-man duo! The grandmas, in particular, gave me the heartiest of guffaws. They were so invested and hi-key shady it was hilarious. Ethan and Jean-Luc needed that though, because wow were they basically in a relationship already lol. So cute, so clueless.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and this is my honest review. 4.25 stars; the steam was steaming and I love an open door romance.
This was a fun and cute read. I love best friends to lovers and this definitely hits the mark.
Hockey player and Himbo, Ethan is left at the altar as his VERY soon to be wife decided she would rather be with man she was sleeping with over her fiance.
Hockey player and all around player Jean-luc is Ethan's best friend, his ride or die, his protector. Jean-luc steps in and takes his bestie on the lavish honeymoon he would have been on with his wife.
Being mistaken for newlyweds themselves, the two men are forced to face the secret they hold from one another. They are disgustingly, adorably and whole heartedly in love with one another. Apparently everyone knew it but them.
Being in professional hockey can be scary to be out and proud, but they are determined to figure things out. First times, face to face intimacy, and germophobia all place a roadblock but the two get their HEA.
This has to be the most hilarious book I’ve ever read and I simply had the best time. The first chapter had me genuinely laughing out loud every few sentences and I love that. While the book occasionally took on slightly more serious tones as the story developed, it still managed to keep its fun lightheartedness.
Ethan and Jean-Luc were both so enjoyable to follow, their dynamic was pretty interesting to read about, and I could especially relate to Ethan’s obliviousness.
Overall, while this was by no means a literary masterpiece, it was the prefect funny and fast paced read that satisfied the craving for an engaging but not too demanding story, and I will definitely be picking up more of the author’s works in the future.
Talk about oblivious! Ethan didn’t seem to have any idea whatsoever that he was basically married to Jean-Luc – he simply enjoyed doing whatever his D-man partner told him to do! Jean-Luc was a little aggravating – his flirtatious nature was fine, but he lost it when he thought Ethan was doing the same. The lack of communication between the two of them was comical although occasionally irritating – they both made decisions for each other based on assumptions that would have been so easy to sort out. I wasn’t expecting the sub/dom aspect to things, although it was nicely done and fit with the two characters. This was a fun read, albeit occasionally irritating with the miscommuncation, and I enjoyed it.
The first chapter set up the book with some excitement. Some insane telenovella drama with a cheating wife, a protective hockey partner, and parents being overly dramatic.
Afterwards it fell off. . . The amount of times an ankle was mentioned you would think one of them had an ankle fetish. Ethan felt almost like a child with how much he didn't want to make a choice or acted very blunt. It felt kind of awkward when they were being romantic and imagining a man child.
The story kind of gets confusing when it doesn't mention who is doing what as it switches perspectives mid chapter. I would say after 50% it gets better with Ethan finally growing up and knowing what he wants.
This was such a good book to read. 2 friends who fall in love. Double bi-awakening is always so much fun to read. 2 guys on a honeymoon where everyone sees them as a married couple which they're clearly not. How both their families were already betting on when they would get together was absolutely hilarious. The sort of miscommunication between them about their feelings just made it a bit less for me. Both thought the other would never want to be together outside of the honeymoon bubble. But they were just made for each other. It was also a well written book and I absolutely flew through it. 4,5 stars

I enjoyed reading this debut novel very much. I love bi-awakening stories and best-friends-to-lovers so this one hit on two of my favorite tropes (it also has only one bed). Ethan and Jean-Luc are good together and the steam factor is very nice.
I loved the setting for this book; the descriptive writing reminded me of my trip to Hawaii that happened nearly ten years ago. I was intrigued by two of the hockey players mentioned in this story. We didn’t really get to meet them but I hope they eventually get a book.
A review copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley but this did not influence my opinion or rating of the book.
“Of course, it took a near-death experience with a floating bag of poison to make him realize that maybe, just maybe, he wasn’t as straight as he’d always thought.”
Omg if you look up “oblivious idiots to lovers” in a dictionary you would get Jean-Luc and Ethan’s names, for sure.
They were both cute and exasperating af but their chemistry felt so real!
I loved that the centre of the story was them and the secondary characters were very lovable but didn’t take up lots of space.
Oh but I ADORED the grandma, she was so awesome. I want to be her.
I got an ARC of this book and I’m writing an honest review ✨
4.5/5 This has some of my favorite tropes! Oblivious best friends to lovers/queer awakening when one goes on the other's honeymoon after a canceled wedding - especially when everyone else in their lives are so unsurprised that it's the actual couple who are the last to know they are together. I adored the grandmas and in general the secondary characters were great. This was a light-hearted, feel good, hilarious and very low angst romance. While a hockey romance, the actual hockey is minimal, although it's obviously a central concern/theme for them. I enjoyed the heck out of this, and will check out more from this author.
First as a Canadian I thoroughly enjoyed the references to Canadian Tire. The use of timbits was funny but also cringe. The best friends hockey bro bi awakening was funny and sweet but at times the writing felt all over the place and disjointed. It wasn’t flushed out and definitely needs editing. Ethan’s dialogue and his inability to form a coherent sentence was so annoying i almost quit reading. Jean Luc’s inner monologue about Ethan was at times mean so it pulled you out of the story that he could be so in love with Ethan.
I love MM sports romance but this just missed the mark unfortunately. There were some sweet moments, decent character growth and good spice, but overall this book felt rushed, cheesy, and cliche. The power imbalance in the relationship didn’t feel sweet or romantic, it just felt like a father and a child. The text messaging was so cringey and seemed to be written by someone who has never sent a text in their life. And the ending was lackluster, I was looking forward to a big public coming out moment.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
publicly broken up with at your wedding no problem get over her by spending a romantic holiday with your best friend you don't know you're in love with. This was such a silly story both these idiots are so close and work so well together but communication is all over the place.
The pacing of the story is a little random and I felt the the ending just jumped to the epilogue. enjoy the sexy steamy moments between the boys but the actual relationship was a little under developed. could have been fleshed out a little more and look into the hockey side.
The beginning was so promising. Ethan came across as a big, lovable dumbass and Jean-Luc was the super duper best friend who took care of the dumbass. It turns out that Ethan is TSTL and was in a 10 year abusive relationship and then jumped into a relationship with his bestie that had a major power dynamic and was grossly infantilizing.
This book needed to stay the silly ridiculous mess that it started as or forgo that completely and lean into the serious side of the actual abuse and trauma that we are presented with. Pick a lane, because neither of these were done well.
I thought this was a really lighthearted and easy read. The pacing was great and the miscommunication about feelings wasn't too extreme. They sorted it out fairly easily. The spice was well done as well. I wish Ethan was able to express himself a little better instead of stuttering a bunch of random words. But I guess that was part of his submissive nature and Jean-Luc obviously had no problem understanding what he meant. This is a great debut book!
While the miscommunication and mutual obliviousness between Ethan and Jean-Luc were clearly meant to be humorous, I often found it frustrating. The internal monologues were repetitive, and I kept mixing up the characters. I also wasn’t a fan of a full blown adult being so dependent on another.
The honeymoon setting was fun though, and I did enjoy many light-hearted moments.
Overall, I just feel the execution of this story was a bit off
This was my first MM hockey romance and it was just okay. I thought the storyline was unique and interesting and I did like both MMC’s. However, I just didn’t feel the chemistry between them which kind of pulled me out of the story. The ending also felt very abrupt. Even with the epilogue it still felt incomplete.
Ethan’s engagement falls apart in the middle of his wedding, leaving him lost and dealing with an array of emotions.
Having already paid for an incredible honeymoon in Hawaii, his best friend Jean-Luc convinces Ethan to go ahead and take the trip. When they get to Hawaii, they discover the honeymoon suite only has one bed, no pull out couch or any other sleeping options.
Through their week together, the two men come to some realizations that take their relationship into to a whole new territory.
This was a decent story. While the two main characters are hockey players, hockey isn’t played in this story. The bi-awakening was a fun addition to the story and their time in Hawaii wasn’t without some tension.
This story contains some light dom/sub content (nothing intense) and I’m still processing how I feel about that. It was something new for me. Overall, a good story but I feel like I was looking for something more with this.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher/author for this copy of this book.
Oh, this was such a lovely story! It's so funny that everyone, except them, could see that they were in love with each other. And I do love a friend's to lovers tale, that easiness with each other that grows is just amazing. I do hope that there will be more stories from the friends of Jean-Luc and Ethan.
Loved the pacing of the book, it progressed at the correct speed. I liked that there was no 3rd act break up. Both Ethan and Jean-Luc are loveable and fun. The challenges they faced were realistic for the setting g and characters. Super easy ready and very lighthearted.
I really enjoy reading mm romance and this book about two best friends falling for each other was right down my alley. This book had some of my favourite tropes; friends to lovers, bi-awakening, hockey players, one bed…
It’s an easy, quick read without too much drama and cute pet names.
