Did Not Finish
August 17, 2012Were there going to be vampires? We just don't know. And I don't want to.

My very first historical romance and I loved, loved, loved it!
There's so much action, suspense, and romance wrapped up in this book, I couldn't put it down. Beautifully done!

I first read this book some 20+ years ago. It was the first I had heard of the Peshtigo fire. All these years I had been looking for it through the library with no luck. I went to our local used book store and there it was! I was worried I might not like it still, but I still do. The paperback edition looks like your standard bodice ripper, but it isn't. I would classify it more as historical fiction/romance. There are very few "sexy" scenes in it. Highly recommend it, if you can find it!

Mail order bride
I couldn't finish this. I can't pinpoint what set me on edge but I hate Daniel and Mercy got worse it seemed as I read. There was just nothing to draw me into the story and make it worth my time.

This was ok. I speed-read it to be honest as the characters didn't feel all that real. I got annoyed at Hannah who the author tried to make a strong character but was just annoying. I also didn't get on with Daniel, the main male character. Hannah's and Daniel's relationship just didn't click with me. There was a fair bit of preaching in the story; and it just didn't quite gel for me.

I don't generally like historical stories, but this was free and I enjoyed it. I will read other books by this author. Its great to get a chance to read authors for free to give an opportunity to sample an authors work. I have read many series by starting with one free book!

I enjoyed this book very much. The drama and characters were a good mix. In the end, they all got what they deserved.

Enjoyable read; better than expected based on the luke warm reviews, especially since I'm not into romance novels. It was a free Kindle book on Amazon and worth every penny...lol!!

kinda painful to get through. The storyline was actually very intriguing, but it seemed way too drawn out. It just didn't hold my interest..

This was an okay book to read, but the character development was week and the story was typical.

nice quirky book

November 12, 2012Set in earlier times. For the uptight way women were "supposed" to act then, I appreciated the spunk in the main character.
