This better be Joshuas book i have legit been waiting since 2011. I read Chris’s book and stopped because i refuse to read and wait. Now the 6th book is out and STILL NO LOGAN OF JOSHUA!! Cmon RL make it happen but the NBH on the backburner 2020 is the pyte’s year to be done! Pleasedd i beggg you!

I suggest improving the variety in your writing to avoid repetitive language and phrases. For example, instead of repeatedly describing a character as “too kind for her own good,” consider using more nuanced expressions to illustrate her kindness or tendency to forgive. Additionally, phrases like “too adorable” might not resonate with all audiences, particularly when describing characters from a heterosexual male perspective.
Consider expanding your vocabulary and incorporating more sophisticated word choices to avoid sounding like high school-level writing. This would enhance the depth of your prose and make the narrative more engaging.

I love this series, Ive actually got someone else hooked on this series and Im kind of jealous they get to read it all for the first time. This book is one Ive been want for for a long time and the wait has been well worth it!
I loved finally finally getting Jills point of view, we've seen so much from her going up and from other peoples pint of view when it comes to her but finally seeing what actually happened and seeing how she thinks and her story was amazing. Logan is cocky and seemed evil for so long now we see that yes he's cocky but he is Jills perfect hero. I loved this book, it's one of my favorites so far this year and it holds up to the previous 7 books.

Everyone knows Jill is in danger after Logan marked her so keeping her captive is what everyone thinks is best to protect her but when they finally move her everything falls apart and Logan steps in. Solid 2/5 for the book. If you have read the others in the series it’s pretty comparable. I got a bit confused by all the side characters backstories at one point. It’s been a while since I read the other books in the series so that could be why. Jill’s background is explained more which is interesting but also hard to imagine Madison didn’t know or wouldn’t have found out.

The one thing that truly annoyed me/made me sad was how it ended with Jill and her dad. The tension and heartbreak that has been building for several books between them, the reunion felt like nothing? One conversation and that’s it?! And not even a truly healing one. Soooo much time was spent on Logan and Jill playing house and almost none was spent on how that relationship heals from this. To me the family moments should have had way more explored and told in the story. I get it’s a romance but also this family has been built up for years and several books, it’s sad it was just left out. I was looking forward to seeing how Jill and her dad reconnect, but I guess we won’t :(

I really enjoyed this story! I’m happy we finally got Jill’s book. I think my favorite part of the story though were the kiddos. They stole the show for me lol! I can’t wait to read what’s next.

This is the eighth book in the series, isn’t writing supposed to get better? Because this isn’t it. Wrap it up, because this is getting worse as the series goes on. There is zero growth.

While these books are a series, significant things that are referenced to need to have a short “reminder “ also written for something that’s happened several books ago that no one who has read the books as they came remembers. Example, what was it that Jill said to Logan when she held a dagger to his man part? He reminisced on that, but did not reminisce what it is that she had said.
Jill is transformed against her will. When she is changed, her hair, eye and skin color all change to look like Logan why? There was zero thought to this making it like she was Logan’s child and a serious cringe and ick factor that she’d change to look like Logan? Also to completely smell like him. She’s either his sibling or his child with that looking like him. And completely having his scent was just a burger not too let’s completely not have women being independent and outside of the man. And why did she need to have bigger breasts as part of the transformation? Really? And why is she ordering clothes that accentuate her body? Knowing she’s at the mercy of men?
She had a chain around her ankle, how is she swimming 50 laps in a pool with that around?
How is it that Logan never knows she is being electrocuted by his lackey henchman when Logan has access to everything else regarding her?
And all the men in series describing the women’s reactions to their mistreatment as adorable is so ridiculous and extremely overused. ALL THE MEN USE THIS TO DESCRIBE ALL THE WOMEN!! Even times where it’s absolutely deplorable and disgusting. “Looking adorably pissed” is his thought to her reaction to thinking Logan marked the children he later had locked into the apartment with her. Logan’s use of it to apply to a woman he has abducted and kept a prisoner is disgustingly used repeatedly.
And him hanging onto a woman that he lost multiple centuries ago (eight) is just plain pathetic. A woman that made it plain that he wasn’t enough, but he don’t want to see that. And he hung onto his unrighteous indignation when he was finally told the truth by Kale, absolutely denying what he was told, despite the fact that Kale could have told him this a long time ago, trying to spare Logan‘s feelings. He’s reasonable pursuing Kale is just pathetically stupid.
Jill’s being held against her will, why is she going to the kitchen and getting blood for Logan? Why?! And cleaning him up?! Again, why? And can’t justify with she’s trying to get on his “good side” as part of her plan to get away because it’s evident that is not the case, the writing doesn’t support such.
Also, this Stockholm syndrome trope is unimaginative and lazy writing.
Jill also has unrighteous indignation, she broke trust, and then has nerve to talk about how she doesn’t trust those whose trust she broke with because they had to take actions to mitigate the trust she broke? And she finds out she is thought to be dead and she wants to leave her parents in that grief, only later she thinks to do this to protect them since she has a target on her back? Initially it was because she was mad at them, didn’t trust them! NOT to protect them.
Why would she agree to do anything that had time attached to it, agreeing on a month, then added time of two to get what she was asking for regarding the children? With her capture. Jill just isn’t intelligent as she’s written. It’s obnoxious and insulting how she’s written. An ongoing theme, this Stockholm Syndrome, as same can be said for Ashley for the last book, prior women. Hanking Jill have supposed witty comments sprees not make up for this. She lacks true conviction, weak.
Storyline issue, it was written that Logan was supposed to have the remotes to the children’s ankle monitors the following morning, then next thing you know it’s written that it is one week later, and he just now has the remote? The code was put in, so with is it that Logan is struggling to get the cuffs off and then causing him pain? With his vampire strength? For convenience for Jill to feel sorry for him?
Repetitive phrases were abound - heartfelt sigh, adorable, heavy sigh, lips twitch, glaring, grumbling, the women being too nice for their own good, or too nice. And repetitive scene of Jill’s hand burning off. Like Ashley’s in the book before this. Repetitive don’t want a mate trope.
And a five letter word as a password to unlock your laptop, isn’t it. It requires more letters than that, so having “angel” unlock Logan‘s laptop was ridiculous. More trope to “endure” Jill to her captor to dismiss the situation that SHOULD have her unmoved and falling to Stockholm Syndrome.
I guess I am just tired of the idiocy trope romanticizing women being with the man who have abducted them and held them prisoner.
Skimmed and skipped to get to the end. And Elizabeth showing up was no surprise to me, though it was very ridiculous. Neither was Gary. Them being mated made no sense. Neither did Elizabeth coming after Logan. Jill’s reunion with her family left a lot to be desired. Jill become pregnant had my eyes almost rolling out of my head. This one was also long and drawn out for no reason and made the book worse as it went on. I’m not a fan of not finishing a book and didn’t want to have a DNF.

I really liked this one. It felt like the author took into account some of the reader feedback about some of the books being too repetitive with certain scenes and wording and there was a lot less of it here. I do wish we had gotten to see Jill do some more badass vampire stuff and gotten some more explanations about what was up with her change but I look forward to the next book!

While better than the last few in this series, it was not even close to the first two. The repetitive words and phrases are frustrating. The use of adverbs in every single dialogue tag got so difficult to read. Does this author use editors? Because they need to tell her that it’s ok to just write “she said” sometimes. It does not have to be, “ she said sadly, as she brought the tissue to her nose while watching him leave.” Sometimes the dialogue tag was an entire paragraph. It’s exhausting.

Mixed feelings about this book
I loved the author’s Neighbor from Hell series and was really looking forward to reading this book. I will say that the plot was creative and kept me engaged even though the storyline dragged on. The writing itself, though, was somewhat disappointing and not on par with what I expected from the author. She had grammatical tense issues throughout the book and the repetition of words was mind-boggling. E.g.
- 222 instances of the word “murmured” to describe speaking. In this book, almost everybody “murmured”
- 203 sighs, 43 of them “heartfelt” and 22 “heavy”
- 147 instances of “absent” communication, including absent murmurs, absent mumbles and absent nods
- 109 instances of pressing or kissing foreheads
- 90 instances of lips twitching. Seriously, what is up with that?
- 69 glares
- 33 instances of characters worrying their bottom lip
- 23 instances of eyes narrowing
- 19 uses of the description “small hand” and 17 of “small woman”

But if you have not read any of Dianne Duvall books The Gifted Ones, Immortal Guardians and Aldebarian Alliance Series These 3 series goes together They can keep you while you waiting. I am looking for another series to keep busy while I wait on this book too// any suggestions

I feel I've waited as long for this book as Logan has for his revenge, lol!
Logan has been lurking about this series for a while. He's been the morally grey frenemy, a former friend of Kale and anti-hero. But has Logan finally slipped so far into his revenge plot that he's gone full villain?
Jill has gone from being a bratty teenager, to a helpful young adult to claimed by a vampire. The last was to mess with her family, especially her adoptive father, Ephraim. But she never thought that to save her they'd actually hand her over to the Sentinels. But she never makes it into their custody, someone has sent an assassin after her!
Poor Jill. She's literally going through the wringer in this book but she does get that well deserved and completely worthy HEA. Logan - he kept me guessing. Just when I thought he'd left his shade revenge plot behind, he dropped breadcrumbs that just maybe he was feeding us a line of poop! However, the absolute scene stealers for me were the rescued shifter kids; Shane, Caleb and Emma are completely adorable and justifiably make all the adults do their bidding. Shout out to Tomas too - greatest babysitter in the world. That man was brave to face glue, glitter and six year olds!
The book takes place over almost a year, with a couple of glimpses into the past. So this was a real slow burn romance. There was a bit of receptiveness with dialogue tags, adverbs, etc. However, I'm a reader who goes mainly by how a book makes me feel rather than how literary high-faluting it is. This book made me shout, swear profusely (at the bad guys and occasionally Logan!), sniffle and laugh. This series involves a family, biological, found and otherwise that know the power of humour and insults to get through the tough stuff. I really hope the next book ensures that we find Tomas amongst other things.

The book takes place over almost a year, with a couple of glimpses into the past. So this was a real slow burn romance. There was a bit of receptiveness with dialogue tags, adverbs, etc. However, I'm a reader who goes mainly by how a book makes me feel rather than how literary high-faluting it is. This book made me shout, swear profusely (at the bad guys and occasionally Logan!), sniffle and laugh. This series involves a family, biological, found and otherwise that know the power of humour and insults to get through the tough stuff. I really hope the next book ensures that we find Tomas amongst other things.

Many years ago now, I first came across Ephraim and Madison in my first ever Pyte book. I loved it and couldn't get enough. Since then I have been faithfully following the family and the series and been waiting to see what would happen with the poor under dog character of Jill.
I was not disappointed as R.L. Mathewson once again delivered a captivating and fast-paced read with Short, Lethal, and Claimed.
It had everything that makes this author's books unique, wit, steamy romance, and compelling characters.
The story revolves around two strong-willed characters who, despite their differences, share undeniable chemistry. True to Mathewson's style, their banter is sharp, hilarious, and layered with unspoken tension. The pacing is quick but doesn’t sacrifice character development of Logan or Jill, and has some heart breaking revelations about Jill's past.
I always knew Jill would be the one to make me cry and she did, from the feelings of lonliness and isolation, and being unwanted to getting so much of her own love and self fulfilment. Wonderful character arc.
For those who enjoy romances with humor, heat, and a touch of sweetness, Short, Lethal, and Claimed is a perfect pick.

I don’t know really what to say. We have been waiting anxiously for Jill and Logan’s story. Logan is a vampire and Jill is human.
Logan has been on Earth for over eight hundred years and been searching for the person responsible for his first loves death. Jill had to spend a year in a Sentinel compound after Logan marked her. She is about to be transferred to a Sentinel island when she is shot. Logan grabs her and takes her to his penthouse where he turns her. But Jill’s transition took longer and there were some noticeable changes about her. Logan doesn’t let Jill’s family know that she’s still alive. He keeps her chained up and she tries her best to escape. Logan can’t stop thinking about Jill until a friends tells him why. He has mated her even though vampires don’t have mates. Will Logan get his revenge and will he finally let Jill in his heart?
If none of this makes sense then read it anyway you will not be disappointed. Steamy. A grumpy vampire. A woman he wants more than anything. Bounties on their heads. Loved it!

Though I enjoyed seeing where this series has gone and what the original characters have gotten up to, this was ruined by the author having managed to turn this into a mimic of her other series.
Wow, just so sad to have this great series reduced to the same level as NFH and HFH. Though they are entertaining in their own way, this series was head and shoulders above them.
The first book in this series 15 years ago was gritty, enthralling and brilliant. So different and engaging.
This book could be any series written by this author. Switch out the names and situation, rinse and repeat.
I stepped away from this author due to her having turned wonderful Chris into a true a-hole, plus her repetitive word/expression usage in her other series drove me nutty.
I finally decided to read Logan and Jill’s story when I saw it in KU.
But we are now getting the use of the following terms, adorable, lips twitching and many other expressions obviously transferring over to this series.
A real pity this is how this series texture and drama has been changed into.
Read through KU.

Another puzzling story at the beginning but as the story continues the puzzles become clear. Here we have Jill chained with a wide range of movement. Then there are 3 children also chained. And next is Logan who is a vampire who has them imprisoned. He is obsessed with revenge which has been going on for hundreds of years. Jill and the kids are not part of his revenge or so he says. There is something about Jill that he can’t seem to let go. There is a back story but it has not been brought up yet. They are all sort of in hiding with bounties on all their heads. But being in the same vicinity day in and day out can be challenging. What could be the end game? It boggles the mind but you just have to keep reading!

I absolutely love this series, and I have been waiting for Jill's story. I love the addition of Shane, Emma and Caleb. Talk about melting a vampire's heart- that little Emma and Caleb. This is one of my favorites of the whole series. Lots of action happening. I personally love Jill's character. She has evolved so much since finding out more and more about what Jill was hiding and dealing with. I think the narrator did a great job. I know it is most ideal to keep the same voice actor for series, but I think Dani did a wonderful job. I truly think this series would be amazing if it could be done in duet style or with dual narrators. I cannot wait to see what is in store for this series.

Got to be honest, this book was so bad. What happened to this series? It started out so well. I saw on socials that Mathewson has plotted out the next EIGHT books. Christ. Who's going to stick it out that long?

Long time coming… so worth the wait.
I’ve been waiting for a long time for Jill and Logan's story.
I don’t usually read paranormal or sci-fi stories but with every new book in the Pyte/Sentinel series, I love learning more about this world. This is a great addition.
I’ve always felt bad for Jill, knowing there were things in her past we never learned in previous Pyte/Sentinel books. I'm glad we finally got some of it.
And what can be said about Logan, the bad boy vampire you don’t really want hate? Learning more about his backstory as well as his relationship with Kale.
So many answers and yet so many more questions.

I just receive an arc and I'm honestly lucky to receive it.
OMG!!! It so amazing and honestly I can't even put the book down😍. I couldn't get enough that I already reread it again. The book was amazing, Logan and Jill has me rolling like a roller coaster. It has the wit, story, drama and most the all the kisses 💋 🤣.
This maybe my second fav book in this series. I just love Logan and Jill ♥️
Now I'm looking forward to the next book for this series. (I hope that Ashley & Christofer's father will have his own book 😘)

What happened to this series?
The first few in this series ( “Tall, Dark and Lonely” offered a unique spin on vampires “ while “Without Regret” continued the momentum with seemingly opposite mates) were excellent.
Hints of Logan and Jill’s story were hinted at wonderfully. So, when the reader finally gets the former bad girl (Jill) and Logan’s story in their hard, disappointment is not the feeling you want. Too much going on and confusing storylines at times. Also, the constant reference to “pouting” “ sighing heavily “ or being “adorable” gets overused.

Finally, we Jill and Logan's storyline, after such a long wait! And, a little confused, how is it possible that she is pregnant with a pyte and why did she turn into a different person physically 🤔
I guessed that Elizabeth was still alive.
And, I guess Joshua is the new bad with a list, that he has started to fulfill. 1st with Indie and the attack on his family's home from the last book. Now, Jill and Logan in this book. I hope they are able to bring him back into the light. Especially now that Jill is back and Logan is no longer the bad guy.

Was really hoping I would rate this book a higher rating but sadly, I didn’t love it! I did like it but wanted to like it more, being as I absolutely love her books and she’s my top 3 favorite author. I wanted more of a reunion with Jill and her family, I feel as though it was rushed and that toke away the emotional impact of the scene. I also wanted to see more “love” between Logan & Jill, I know their story is told between multiple books but I wanted more. I also wanted more spicy scenes but that’s just my preference 😉 Still going to read the next book in the series.

Was so lucky to get an ARC. A M A Z I N G!! I read this so fast because I couldn’t get enough. Our favorite author brought her A game, the wit, the banter, the scheming, absolutely loved it. Twists, turns, tears (her favorite), I was so sad it ended but I cannot freaking wait for the next book. I have no idea what to do with myself right now. Logan and Jill are up there as my fave couple. So enjoyable to read, I’m cheering🥰

It has been a while since I was in this world, and I probably should have reread before diving in, but I was impatient and went right in. Jill's story has been a long time coming, and once she was marked things would get crazy, and boy did they! We are getting fated mates, danger, violence, drama, but for me the addition of the kids was the cherry on top. I give this 4 stars.
