Trust is a dangerous gamble. In a case of mistaken rideshare identity, I end up in a car with the owner of the very casino I’m trying to get to for my cousin’s wedding. I’m completely unaware that I’ve jumped into a car with Nicholas Deschamps, a powerful man who is desensitized to violence. He’s irresistibly charismatic and extremely handsome, making him a wolf in sheep's clothing. He doesn’t reveal his true motives until I find him in my room waiting for me. I assumed after that weekend, our simple exchange in Sin City would be the end. But someone has been stalking me since I left. Has my darkest desire followed me back home? He warned me he likes to play games. That I shouldn’t trust him because he would devour me. All I can say is… let’s play.
Devour is a steamy, contemporary (loose) retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. It is a stand alone novel with no cliffhanger and a HEA. Some scenes could triggering. The hero is morally grey. There’s violence, stalking, gambling, and an intense game of hiding and seek. It is intended for 18+ mature readers.

It took me 3 days to read a pretty short book and I probably would have DNF'd it if I wasn't reading it for the buddy read. This did lead to some funny discussions on the live show. You can see all our thoughts on Bookmarked by Jenn's channel.
There were so many issues with this book, let me count the ways this failed.... - The opening where the heroine 💩 herself - She never stopped talking about it - She didn't take a shower before messing around with the hero...🤮 - The author didn't know what this book should be. Was it a quirky romcom, dark romance, mafia, stalker???? - The dice scene...like why??? - How the back and forth the heroine was about the hero. Either be not into him or not.
Maeve is having a rough day. First she took medicine that didn't work correctly and now she's literally sh!t herself at the airport. Panty-less and frustrated she realizes they lost her luggage, and now after jumping into a rideshare with an annoying and creepy driver, she's finally made it to the hotel, only to run into her cheating ex and his partner. Everything is going wrong, until her weirdo driver steps in and she realized he isn't at all who she thought he is.
*****
This was an interesting novel, although it was a bit less developed than I was expecting. Maeve was realistic in her reactions of being freaked out by Nick being a crazy mobster, but the back and forth the entire novel did make him seem creepy and lame instead of crazy hot. Maybe it was just me, but he felt desperate, and her continuously being weirded out by him made his character seem less suave than a good ol' stalker mob romance usually goes. There also were some consistency errors like asking what she did for a living after a scene where he asks her to stay an extra day, because she told him what she does for a living and he points out it can be done remotely. It didn't take away from the story as a whole, it just stood out.
Overall it was a decent novel, the pushback was entertaining and the banter was good. Although the mix between insta-lust and one-sided love and obsession wasn't as smooth as I've seen done before, so this felt like an average read overall.
If you're looking for a strong FMC having a bad day and being saved by a billionaire mobster who then becomes obsessed with her? This one will check your boxes.

Thank you to The Author Agency for the digital ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This author was new to me, and I became immediately engrossed in the plot. I had no idea this book was part of the multi-author Mayhem Makers Series, but now I’ll have to check out the rest.
Poor Maeve is having a very difficult day! We can all empathize with her character, since bad luck often strikes at the most inconvenient times. Little did she know that a mistaken identity—confusing Nicholas for an Uber driver—would be the first step toward her happily ever after with him.
No one has ever mistaken Nicholas for anything other than a dangerous, connected man, and Maeve and her mistake immediately entertained him. As the owner of the casino where Maeve and her granny are going, it isn’t a hardship for him to drive them there. What I loved about these two is his instant fascination with her spirited personality, and her sass and naivety about the danger she’s really in. Nicholas’ infatuation became an obsession, and I loved seeing him champion her. The sizzling chemistry between them kept these pages flipping, and I finished my read happy. The secondary characters were interesting and helped to bolster the connection between these two.
I look forward to reading more from this author in the future, and recommend this read. I received an ARC of this book, and gladly leave my review.
Do you know those Ben Stiller movies? My husband cannot watch them because of secondhand embarrassment. I thrive on them, though. I love every cringing moment. That’s why 𝙼𝚢 𝙿𝚒𝚌𝚔 𝚘𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚆𝚎𝚎𝚔 𝚒𝚜 𝙶𝚊𝚒𝚕 𝙷𝚊𝚛𝚒𝚜’ 𝙳𝚎𝚟𝚘𝚞𝚛. The first page is, hands down, the most amazingly written scene that I’ve read in a long time. You will either want to set the book down or go with it. I went along because why not? Devour is a steamy, loose retelling of Little Red Riding Hood and part of the Mayhem Makers Series that are all standalones. In Devour, readers will get an unhinged shmalker, mistaken identity, organized crime, and great spice.
You see, Maeve mistakenly jumps in what she thinks is her Uber to the wedding she’s attending at a Casino Hotel. However, the Uber car is not the Uber car she thought it was; it is the casino owner, Nicholas, driving. Yes, that’s the “meet cute.” The two have great banter. Maeve throws Nicholas’ suave demeanor off-kilter during their time together, and he falls hard for her, turning him into someone who must have her. He does everything to do so when the tables turn, and she leaves him hanging.
I enjoyed Devour, Maeve, and Nicholas’s characters. The story had some of everything I liked. Who doesn’t love when the villain gets the girl?
First off: This review is not a positive one, it's not even constructive criticism, it's just criticism and me being a little mean about the story, so if you are the author, please, please, please, I beg of you, don't read this. This review is not meant for you in any way shape or form. Your work has value and many people enjoy it. You deserve the praise and to continue to write with joy.
I got this as an ARC, so thank you to Gail Harris and the author agency for it!
That opening line was wild. It made me cringe when she kept bringing it up because I personally found it disgusting, but I can see how it was meant as funny thing. And then she had to bring it up AGAIN to the MMC. Like miss ma’am please, there are things you just don’t share with the guy you JUST met.
She was giving me whiplash with her decisions and her train of thought. “I want him” “I don’t want him” “I decide” “I let my cousins decide” make up your mind.
Nicholas kept saying he was a wolf and a bad guy and other people said he was dangerous but as of the first 100 pages he was nothing but playful and a little golden retriever. Nothing of the “dark” man her cousins were going on about.
Now, the dice situation was more awkward and humorous than hot for me. Also medically concerning in a sense of…what if they get stuck, are they clean, how and when you get them out, are you going to wash them before use or simply throw them on the table of the casino?? Not hot at all.
Plus some of the interactions felt like a fever dream of attempted banter. I didn’t feel no chemistry between the characters and the spicy moments felt forced.
A loose Little Red Riding Hood retelling, Nicholas Deschamps is the big bad wolf of the casino world after branching off from Cleric. Maeve Goodman tumbles into the wolf’s sites after she had quite the start to her Vegas trip.
What started as a “two night” stand, turned into so much more. The connection that Nicholas and Maeve had them both seeing stars. However, Nicholas is ever the helper when he can get something out of a deal. So he pretends to be Maeve’s fiancé, while she helps him get closer to her cousins.
I loved the spice & the similarities of Little Red Riding Hood. Always a witty time with Gail’s novels & being in this world is no different. The big bad wolf catches the she-wolf & devours her the whole way to their happily ever after.
The first few sentences of this book had me 😷—I had to reread them just to make sure I wasn’t imagining things lol.
That said, this was a solid first read by this author. The plot kept me hooked, and the spice was definitely a nice touch. While it wasn’t mind-blowing, it was still an enjoyable read with a good balance of story and steam. I will look forward to other works of Gail's.
I got it, red riding hood inspired. It's a pretty fast read so it was easy for me to finish it even when I was thinking this is not for me with a beginning like that. I'm sorry but how is a shower not the first thing the FMC does after an accident like that. I couldn't get past it, like what. There were moments that were good mixed in. Overall maybe this wasn't for me.
When Maeve Goodman is on her way to the wedding festivities of her cousin, little did she expect to get the attention of someone dark and seductive like Nicholas Deschamps. One weekend in Sin City could be the right thing to do, right?!
DEVOUR by Gail Haris is another book in the Mayhem Makers Series - and you need to be prepared for it. ⚠️ First of all, there are scenes that could be triggering, like gambling, stalking, violence, and such an intense game of hide and seek.
HOLY MOLY! I can't even believe what I read! Well, Gail Haris is always there to surprise you some more! 🥵❤️🔥
Maeve is on her way to her cousin's wedding, and then there's so much that goes wrong. Oh boy! 🙈 But then... she meets Nicholas Deschamps - aka Le Loup (the wolf) and OH MY GOODNESS! Her transformation is unbelievable! You think she's a little, shy, and innocent woman. But, ha! She's so much more than HE can handle! Well... sometimes. 😅 Loved her development! And talking about development - I also loved Nicholas' one! He's more than the big bad boy who likes to play dangerous games.
Next to the main characters, I've to mention Maeve's grandma! SHE'S HILARIOUS! OMG!
Devour is such a different kind of a Red Riding Hood retelling for sure. It's the perfect combination of laughter, hotness overload and intensity, exciting suspense, and danger.
If you like the following tropes, this book is perfect for you: 🖤 Red Riding Hood Reimagined 🃏 Unhinged Stalker / Man Obsessed 🖤 Mistaken Identity 🃏 Casino / Organized Crime 🖤 Touch her & ☠️ 🃏 Run / He likes to play games
You know what I learned from this sizzling story of Maeve and Nicholas? 1. I wanna find a guy like HIM - Nicholas! 🥰🫠 2. I never would have thought that hide & seek could be so... absolutely sexy. 🤭 3. I'll never be able to look at a pair of dice the same way now. You know, the normal way. You need them to play certain games... but trust me! This game is different. PHEW! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
WOW. Gail Haris definitely knows how to let you fall in love with the morally grey guy!
Thanks a lot for this ARC. This is my honest review in my own words.
From the moment Maeve Goodman mistakenly steps into Nicolas Deschamps’ SUV, readers are swept into a whirlwind of mistaken identity, sizzling chemistry, and high-stakes intrigue. Maeve, in Vegas for her cousin’s wedding, finds herself entangled with Nicolas—an enigmatic casino owner with a ruthless and alluring reputation. What begins as an awkward mix-up quickly spirals into a high-stakes game of deception, as Maeve boldly declares Nicolas her fiancé for the weekend. But what she sees as a fleeting adventure, he views as a challenge he refuses to lose—after all, Le Loup never backs down.
Gail Haris masterfully blends humor, tension, and undeniable passion in this modern Little Red Riding Hood retelling. Maeve is a delightfully feisty heroine, holding her own against Nicolas’ dark charm, while he is the perfect mix of dangerous and seductive. Their dynamic crackles with chemistry, and the way he seamlessly steps into the role of her fake fiancé—only to blur the lines between real and pretend—had me hooked from start to finish.
The Vegas backdrop, underground dealings, and family drama add layers of excitement, making this more than just a romance—it’s an intoxicating mix of danger, desire, and undeniable fate. I loved every twist and turn, and Nicolas’ relentless pursuit of Maeve had my heart racing in the best way.
Without a doubt, Devour has earned a permanent place on my bookshelf. If you’re a fan of intense, swoon-worthy romance with a hint of danger and a hero who plays to win, this book is a must-read. Maeve might have thought she was just having a fun weekend in Sin City, but she quickly learns that when Nicolas Deschamps is involved, the stakes are always higher—and losing is never an option.
Honestly saying I liked the book very much cause my fav book is haunting Adeline and I was searching for a similar book as I don't do re-read that easily. If you are a haunting Adeline fan then this book is definitely for you and if you hate that then please don't come for it too.
Nick is someone who got a dark past yet he was so caring so patient with Maeve though he behaved like a creep hehehe. I was a bit disappointed at how Maeve behave with Nick, like she literally was using him at the beginning. I felt so bad for Nick when he had to get hit by her words. Nick is someone who never let a girl inside his heart but never even thought twice before doing everything he never did just for Maeve but gurl was no ever listening to him. Like she was behaving spoilt, Maeve never tried to understand him just because of his works. I loved Nick with all my heart but Maeve I'll forgive her only because he is Nicky's girl 🤧.
Other than them, Mrs grandmother is something 😆 I really like her. We all need a grandma like her real bad. Then again we have a very few characters in here which I liked the most cause it always makes me confused with more side characters.
The story deserves a 4⭐ because the way it played with my mind with Maeve's character. I'm really glad that she changed at the end of else I would have kidnapped Nick myself 😎.
Lastly, thank you for the ARC, I really enjoyed my time with Nick and Maeve and others too (mainly grandma). This story is a must read if you want some spicy stalker, Mafia casino owner, to make you fall in love with him on a sudden car drive 😉.
“ I know a wolf when I see one, but I know you’re not going to hurt my girl “
“You're going to act as though you're madly in love with me. I'm your fiancé, remember? "What's your role? Besides having me fawn all over you." "With my help, everyone will desire you, Especially that took you used to be with.
This was my first book I have read from this author and I found it quite enjoyable and had me laughing from the first sentence
Devour is a fast, fiery, and thoroughly entertaining read blending humor, heat, and just a dash of danger that keeps it fun. Maeve and Nicholas have an electric dynamic from the moment they meet-right in the middle of Maeve's disastrously bad day. What starts as an unexpected encounter quickly spirals into an adventure neither of them saw coming.
I loved Maeve, she was a strong and feisty FMC, which intrigued Nicholas. The banter between these two was absolutely top tier, and the chemistry was absolutely undeniable. My man Nicholas fell hard and he definitely was all in when it came to his not so much fake fiancée. This book is fast paced and steamy, so if you're looking for a quick read with a feisty FMC and a possessive MMC then look no further.
First book I have read from this author and I found it quite enjoyable!
This book opens where our FMC Maeve is traveling to vegas for her cousins wedding and let’s just say her trip is most certainly off to a disastrous start, Murphy’s law was definitely in play here. After a hell day of traveling Maeve just wishes to check into her hotel, so she orders a rideshare for herself and her gran but she ends up getting into a strangers car. And this stranger turns out to be out MMC Nicholas - and that kids is how I met your father😂
Anywhooo, Nicholas ends up dropping them to their hotel which conveniently is the hotel he owns. Nicholas witnesses Maeve have a run in with her ex and his new fiancée and he is only happy to jump to her assistance, and later offers Maeve a deal that he will be her fake fiancée and plus one to her cousins wedding.

Thank you so much to the author agency who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭
This book is about Maeve, who works in PR, and is taking her grandma to a family wedding in Vegas. After a frantic mishap at the airport they are late for their car ride share and she jumps into the wrong car! The driver takes them both to the destination, and we find out his true identity! Which makes Maeve's situation more hilarious. Nicholas is the owner of the hotel the wedding is happening at and the unsuspecting driver of Maeve's ride share lol. He helps Maeve out in more than one bind, whilst also slowly fighting his nature and falling for her. But being the man he is, he also needs Maeve's connections. We get a HEA, and I find myself on the side of Nicky when he carries out some of the heinous acts of vengeance for those that wrong Maeve. So yes Nicholas is a gangster, not sure if he is mafia or adjacent but his acts of violence show he is involved in organised crimes. And this alpha in him really shows in his business dealings, relationships and interactions with others, all except Maeve. Maeve is a character who you endear to very easily, but the best bit about her is she is intelligent, confident, and strong willed. Its difficult to see when people are openly bullying her, but she has her own agenda and path and doesn't let it phase her.
Will indeed read more from the author just wow! This book was amazing!! Mave was a hot mess she seemed to have a bad day into vegas until she thought Nicholas was her rideshare driver from there her luck changed. Nicholas was this Casino owner Mave was working for a pr company. How does these two wolrds collide?!! They both like to play games and they take the challenge well. A Match made well with RED.... A fake engagement to make her ex jealous for him it's to get an in with her cousins to build a casino in their territory. Three days in sin city three days they both fell for one another. She liked the chase he enjoyed the hunt. She discovers he's a killer on the side cold blooded in front of her and she shook as she is from that she learns her cousins aren't so much saints either. You've heard Kegal balls? right well he uses a dice up there... talk about woah. This book has holy spice for sure ! What happens after vegas well I think I gave enough spoilers for you to hopefully read on release day! Do they reunite after three days or do they part seperate ways?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A darkish stalker romance as Maeve’s day goes from bad to worse before it implodes. You name it, it happens to her before culminating in one of my own personal fears – getting into a car only to find out its not the rideshare or uber you were expecting only in my version I end up with a serial killer not some mobster type ready to become obsessed with me like Maeve got with her driver, Nick.
I loved the whole concept behind Devour, what reader hasn’t fantasised about a dark and dominant antihero who can’t see past her but while Nick fit that stereotype, for me he just didn’t give off the menacing vibe I expected so instead of him feeling threatening, the vibe I got felt more like ‘the creepy colleague everyone knows not to get trapped in a lift with’. I think most of Nick’s attraction to Maeve was down her attitude towards him. Initially she didn’t know who he was or his reputation so just didn’t know enough to fear him which was a novelty for him. I also felt the beginning of the book was a bit cringy with Maeve’s internal monologue over the situation she found herself it. I get it was part of the story but she didn’t half go on about it.
This was my first book in the Mayhem Makers. I believe there are over 50 different books written by a variety of writers. I will definitely look into reading others. This book focuses on Maeve who is having the worst day of her life. She on a trip to Vegas with her wheelchair bound grandmother and her luggage is lost, she has an unfortunate accident and jumps into the wrong car thinking it’s her uber driver. So of course to make matters worst she gets out of the car, falls and flashes her ex fiancée and his new girlfriend and a bunch of other people. Luckily for her, the driver was Nicholas who not only owns the hotel and is involved in nefarious business dealings but he wants to help her because he wants to secure a business deal with her cousins. This book is loosely based on little red riding hood. My only reference to this fairy tale was she was wearing a red dress. I didn’t get any others. This book was funny and spicy. Nicholas and Maeve have a great weekend in Vegas and then he turns into a stalker, not wanting their time to be over. Great story, I enjoyed the characters and the way he pursued her, took care of her and made her feel special.
Devour is a red riding hood retelling and is a part of a multi-author series, Mayhem Makers with over 50 books. I plan to try and get through some of them this year as well. We meet Maeve in the most embarrassing situation only made worse and laughable by her grandma. Maeve’s embarrassment continues as she mistakenly gets in a car thinking it’s her Uber driver but it happens to be the owner, Nicholas, of the hotel she will be staying at in Vegas during her cousin’s wedding. She runs in to her ex fiancée and his new fiancée upon arrival at the hotel. Nicholas jumps in and pretends to be her fiancée and as his fiancee she is given his suite for her trip and her whole family believes he is truly her fiancée. They make the most of their time together in Vegas with some fun steamy moments and when she goes back home he refuses to forget about her. Maeve also is drawn to Nicholas and realizes she can’t be without him as well. I loved this story finished it in a day and like a said will be checking out some other from this series as well.
Devour is a fast, fiery, and thoroughly entertaining read blending humor, heat, and just a dash of danger that keeps it fun. Maeve and Nicholas have an electric dynamic from the moment they meet—right in the middle of Maeve’s disastrously bad day. What starts as an unexpected encounter quickly spirals into an adventure neither of them saw coming.
Maeve is sweet yet sassy, kept at arm’s length from her family’s gangster world, while Nicholas is right in the thick of it—dangerous, devilishly smooth, and dripping in morally grey appeal. Their back-and-forth is pure entertainment, only stoking the fire of their already scorching attraction. And Nicholas? He’s completely obsessed, utterly devoted, and falls hard for Maeve in a way that’s impossible to resist.
With its mix of humor, a smidge of pining, and seriously steamy moments, Devour is the kind of book you fly through in one sitting. Throw in some primal spice and a satisfying HEA, and it’s the perfect escape for anyone who loves their romance fast-paced, fun, and a bit morally grey.
Special thanks to The Author Agency for the gifted copy 🖤
I really enjoyed this Little Red Riding Hood modern retelling! The humor was fantastic and honestly one of the best parts of the book, though I also very much enjoy ed the primal kink. I was chuckling at the banter numerous times! This is a dark romance, but the way it's written puts the darkness is such a light-hearted way. Though, the tongue scene did make me say "eww!" Just be aware that Nicholas IS very morally grey.
A few of my favorite quotes!
"I’ve never dated.” “Glad I could be your first.” “You’ll be my last.” “That sounds creepy."
“Is this your lair?” I force out. He awards me with another charming chuckle. “As a matter of fact, yes. Tonight instead of finding your grandmother in the bed, it’ll be me.”
"I’m going to simply kill all my enemies.” “A massacre over one person?” “Well when you put it like that it makes me sound quite the romantic, doesn’t it?”
Thanks to Ms. Haris and The Author Agency for the ARC copy!
Could a day get any worse? After landing in Vegas with her grandmother for her cousins wedding, Maeve loses her bowls thank to an "allergy " pill her grandma gave her and then ends up in a vehicle that she thought was her :uber" ends up being the owner of the casino that's she staying at. Plus she booked the hotel room for the wrong days.
Nicholas is intrigued by the whirlwind that is Maeve and when he over hears that she booked the wrong dates, he has her stay with him on the top floor. Nicholas also offers to be her fake fiance (after a bell boy faux pas) to get back at her ex, so that he can have a meeting with her cousins.
Loved the banter between Nick and Maeve, so many laughs. And those hot primal hide and seek scenes. Nick is very much the big bad wolf with a touch her a die mentality
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
This is the story of Maeve and Nicholas. She is on her way to Vegas for her cousin's wedding. Everything that can go wrong for her does on the way there. She's gotten in the wrong car, ran into her ex and his new fiance and almost fell flat of her face in front of the man who is her fake date for this wedding. I'd be ready to go back home and forget this trip ever happened if I was her. Nicholas however has a different view point on the day. Yes it was a mess but he enjoyed the time he got to spend with her. While she is quirky and clumsy he really thinks that she is headstrong and quirky and finds himself falling for her. This really is a cute book. If your looking for something cute and spicy then this is the book for you.
Devour was definitely intriguing. The opening line alone in the book had me thinking " what did I get myself into"... but I actually really enjoyed this! The story was captivating and had me hooked. Maeve in the beginning of the story came across as a crazy, careless, clutz who couldn't get her sh*t together. Literally. But by the end, she seemed to put together. Nicholas in beginning had me thinking, what a sweet, charming, helpful guy, But then we get to know the real him. He's a little twisted, but not as bad as some I've read about. They fake date, but Nicholas becomes obsessed with Maeve and she's terrified of him because she realized that unalives people with ease. The story itself hooks you and keeps you reading, but I think Maeve and Nicholas's character's needed a bit more work. I came for the story, but I think I ended up staying for Grandma!
Maeve is on her way to Vegas for a cousin’s wedding & nothing seems to go right for her. Between her bathroom accident, to getting in the wrong car, to running into her ex & his new fiancé, and to almost falling in front of the man who agreed to pretend to be her fiancé….it just wasn’t a good day for her.
But Nicholas sees it a bit differently. While he does think that his day turned out quite entertaining, he also slowly enjoyed being in Maeve’s company. She is definitely quite odd & quirky but also very headstrong & he is quickly falling for her.
They have some very fun & smexy times together where she starts to question if she could really feel all these things for a man she just met.
When she inevitably has to leave to go back to her job, he finds it hard to forget about her. Which is why he begins keeping track of her & an eye on her.
When he shows back up at her grandmothers house, it all kicks back into motion with the two of them. And those smexy times come back full force.
After something happens that makes her really have to think about whether she could be with a man like him, she eventually agrees she can’t walk away from him.
This was definitely a very interesting yet fun read. I was definitely hooked from the beginning too lol
PLEASE READ THE TRIGERS!! This was definitely a meet cute to remember. To say Maeve was having a bad day is an understatement, she had an accident (2) while de-boarding the airplane, then her luggage didn’t make it onto her plane and won’t arrive until the next day. She jumps into what she thinks is a ride-share but turns out to be Nicolas Deschamps’ the owner of the hotel she is staying at. After an issue with checking in she ends up in Nicolas’ apartment on the top floor. Then she finds out who he really is and what he does, ALL those RED FLAGS keep popping up yet as much as she tries to stay away she can’t stop herself from falling for him.
Organized crime Stalker Obsessed MMC Touch her and …. Hunting/chasing Red Riding Hood theme
Main characters Nicholas and Maeve
The beginning of the story was definitely unique. Maeve was a bit of a mess(literally). Compound that by a ride share mix up and things could not get any worse. Except they kind of do. Falling on her face and mooning her ex and his new fiancée somehow ends with a fake engagement. And that’s just the beginning.
The story is twist of Little Red Riding Hood. Nicholas is referred to as the Wolf in his line of work. He is good at hunting and finding things. Maeve is the innocent one. She is kind of naive and sheltered. We even have a grandma character (love her).
Very spicy and highly entertaining story. The characters were engaging. This is my first read and now I am going bank to read about the cousins!
I had never read anything by Gail before, so I was going into this book with a completely fresh and curious mind. With the first opening sentence, it had me double checking to make sure it wasn’t a dream or anything 😭 Unfortunately about half way through the book, I did feel that the characters (especially the fmc) seemed to be contradicting themselves. I just think it was a bit jumpy, in terms of character development/feelings. There were a few bits I quite liked at the end, like with how the mmc dealt with the fmc’s ex. However i was so shocked at it, because I didn’t feel that the character was written in a way that I would expect something like that. Overall, I’m honestly about 50/50 on the book. Hence why I’ve given it 3.5 stars.
I have never read a book that started out quite like this story does, and I guess it worked cuz it did hook me right on in, I had to see just how big a mess Maeve was. From the disastrous airport incident, to jumping into a ride share that turned out not to be the one she ordered or even a ride share. This weekend in Vegas is not going at all to plan. Will Nicholas be the one to make it better, or will he be the catalyst that makes it worse? This was a good story. We get some funny bits, drama, some violence and danger, add to that some really nice naughty bits. I give this 4 stars.
Devour is a fast, fiery, and thoroughly entertaining read. Blending humor, heat, and just a dash of danger that keeps it fun. Maeve is a delightfully feisty heroine, holding her own against Nicolas’ dark charm. Nicholas is dangerous, devilishly smooth, and definitely morally grey. He’s completely obsessed, utterly devoted, and head over heels for Maeve. The banter between these two was absolutely top tier, and the chemistry was absolutely undeniable. And let's not forget Gran. She was an absolute hoot. This was my first read from this author, and I look forward to reading more from her. I highly recommend this book.
