REV (Bayonet Scars, No. 3)
Everyone belongs somewhere. Even the misfits.
With the looming threat from the Mancuso Crime Family, the Forsaken Motorcycle Club is preparing for a war that could destroy them. Grady, the club’s Sergeant-at-Arms, knows that love makes you weak, and he has zero interest in adding to his liabilities– especially now. He’s already got his teenage daughter who keeps him on his toes and a beef within the club that could fracture his relationship with a fellow brother for good.
For Holly Mercer, her life is finally getting on track and the last thing she wants is trouble from her hometown’s resident outlaws. Keeping her nose clean is easier said than done, when suddenly she finds herself embroiled in club business. Holly might like the idea of being with a real-life bad boy, but even being in the same room with tough-as-nails Grady flusters her.
When Holly inadvertently finds herself on Mancuso’s radar, she has two choices: trust that Grady will protect her, or continue to refuse the club’s help. Both roads are dangerous, but only one has the chance to damage her beyond repair.
Love is never more dangerous than when it can destroy you.

As a child, JC was fascinated by things that went bump in the night. As they say, some things never change. Now, as an adult, she divides her time between the sexy law men, mythical creatures, bad-ass bikers, and kick-ass heroines that live inside her head and her Netflix addiction. JC is a San Francisco Bay Area native, but has also called both Texas and Louisiana home. These days she rocks her flip flops year-round in Northern California and can't imagine a climate more beautiful. Her dream is to own her own Harley and she feels compelled to tell you that she is Team Peeta all the way.
JC is the author of the Men with Badges series, The Birthright Series, and the Bayonet Scars series.
If I thought Thrash was grittier, this one is not for the faint hearted. Rev, is the third book in the series Bayonet Scars. I highly recommend that you read the first 2 books in the series for you to be able to know what’s happening.😎
I really had a hard time rating this one. The storyline in theory is good but there were scenes that were executed poorly. Also, Grady is a hard man to like but in the end was able to pull through for Holly. As for Holly, I would have loved if her past was explained, not just skimmed over.
Finally, we also have progressed with the Italian Mafia but it was too short. I really thought we’ll finally get answers in this book but instead of getting answers it left us with more. While I'm not overly fond of this book, the series still has potential💪🏻. Next is Crush 😊
I really enjoyed this book. However it was not what I thought it would be. I really really freaking really love the whole Mafia Vs. Biker theme. It just keeps the missing the mark slightly in my point of view.
Yes the mafia is mentioned and does play a bigger part in this book than in the last. But it kinda goes away. One standoff.. and then a few mentions here and there. That’s it. (I really want to know what’s going to happen to “Junior”) This was based more on the MC as a whole. As Grady is the Sgt at Arms. He is dealing with the loss of his best friend and not mourning as he needs to. This is also affecting his daughter, Cheyenne. He just doesn’t realize it.
Well the school secretary Holly does. She decides to confront Grady about it as he avoids her at all costs. There is awesome chemistry, but its hate at first sight. They both think the other is really really ridiculously good looking but they are too different. And besides, Grady is an asshole, and Holly has heard all about the types of guys that are in a Motorcycle Club. After all she grew up in this town, She knows how they all are. So she thinks! Some things happen and Holly is targeted by the Mafia and used to get to Grady. (It is actually Alex’s ex that makes an appearance.) This starts their relationship. Together they made me laugh and swoon. They bicker and it is hilarious! They make sweet sweet love. Ok so they fuck each other crazy! We get the story told from both POV’s and a kick-ass epilogue which leads us into Crush! (I not so secretly can’t wait for Chey and Jeremy’s story!) Oh I do need to point out, that something HORRIBLE happens in this book to Holly’s cousin. We are there through the whole thing. People who CANNOT read about rape. Please don’t read that part. Or this book. It is violent. It is graphic. It does actually add to the story so I completely understand why the story went there, but as I said I know some people can’t handle that. So yep.. all in all I liked it. I’m just REALLLLLLY hoping the Mafia storyline is going to kick in a bit more soon. J.C Emery has knack for writing a great story that is dark but light. You giggle, swoon, clench your jaw, mouth vomit, and sigh the whole way through.
I had the awesome chance to beta read this and I just have to say that this is my FAVORITE book in this amazing series to far. JC has totally outdone herself with this book. I can't wait to read it again and MORE! I need more more more!!!
I will review at a later date and after reading the final edit copy, so keep an eye out for that on my blog - A Life Bound By Books.
Rev (Bayonet Scars) I finished this one yesterday and rated it 4 stars. I liked the book, especially the loving relationship between Grady and his daughter. He's the Sargent at Arms (Enforcer) and in previous books came across as the hard ass who didn't seem to have a soft side at all. The h in the series is not weak and while the sex scenes are hot, they are not plentiful, which was fine with me. The book was more about relationships but it kept my interest. It's not perfect. There were a few issues that I don't think were closed out and the ending seemed a little rushed. The book was flowing so well until the last 25% and then it seemed like it was rushed. We see Holly traumatized and unable to cope with severe panic attacks as a result of the violent rape scene but then we jump forward to the epilogue a couple of years later. There was no mention of what the club planned to do with Larry Jennings who was responsible for abducting and torturing Holly & Mindy. Leo, the soldier from the Mancuso family, just suddenly drops out of the picture. A lot of loose ends left hanging. I can understand leaving some suspense for the next book but it was just so abrupt.
Warning to any readers who have a trigger about rape. There is a particularly brutal rape scene towards the end of the book. IMO it was a set up for the next book that I think will pair Ian and Mindy. I can read rape scenes and I usually have a high tolerance for violence but that rape scene even made me a little uncomfortable. But I still highly recommend the book.

I think this story is FANTASTIC. This is book #3 in the Bayonet Scars Series and so far my fav. The story is so complex with so many different layers and things happening. First, you have the love story that develops between the Forsaken's Sergeant at Arms ~Grady~ and Holly, who works at his daughter's high school as an admin. Fate seems to throw them together when Leo Scavo is sent to Fort Bragg to collect the Prince and Princess of the Mancuso crime family. Then you have THAT, the Mancuso element of the series making it's comeback to a bigger extent in this story. AND you have some brutal retaliation, not done by the Forsaken. This part is a little hard to read, gut wrenching, and gave me a little bit of that train-wreck-that-I-can't-take-my-eyes-off-of feeling. JC provides a unique perspective from both Grady and Holly's eyes as things unfold here. This is a definite don't miss book, and I can not WAIT for what follows!!!

Hating the fact that she allowed herself to make a series of poor choices that ended her back in her hometown, broke, and living in her parents' house, made Holly Mercer determined to dust herself off, pull up her bootstraps and get herself back on track. But when her job at the local high school puts her in the path of the pig-headed father of a troubled teenage girl, who happens to be part of the local biker club, both her resolve and her libido find themselves on shaky ground.
Forsaken MC's VP, Grady, is trying to cope with the loss of his good friend and mentor and doesn't have time for some pain in the arse school administrator to stick their nose in his family. She may be pretty, but he has no time in his life for goody-two-shoes. He has bigger fish to fry. Like the Mancuso Family, who haven't let up on the threats against the Forsaken MC. But when those threats occur on school property and involve his daughter AND the school administrator, Grady doesn't pull any punches and quickly introduces Holly to protective measures, MC style.
It doesn't take long for their antagonistic relationship to combust into a passionate inferno once Grady has Holly safely ensconced in his house along with the rest of his family. With protection detail spread thin, there was no other option to ensure her safety, and he frankly didn't mind having her that close. But that doesn't mean she can't be found, or hurt........
*****
Best scene in a book, EVER!!! And this is how it starts......
"You see that - that nervous excitement you're feeling? I'm under your skin. You don't have to like it, but I'm there," he says so quietly it comes out as a whisper.
....it's all I'm gonna give you, because this is a scene that has to be experienced. I adored it!! The tension was phenomenal.
There was so much said in this book without words. That may sound weird when talking about a book, but JC Emery has found a way with REV to write very suggestively. Use described body language and peripheral description to outline the underlying context, which fills itself in as you read. The characters are studies in itself, that appear to be perhaps a tad two-dimensional at first, but with the scene I allude to above, they show a completely new awareness that injected this story with many more layers. It forced me to pay closer attention, to read between the lines more and not just go by the words on the paper.
Although I guess the book could theoratically stand on its own, I strongly suggest you read both RIDE and THRASH prior to picking up REV. It will provide you with some necessary backstory, to which there is plenty referral. As well as an introduction to the full cast of characters and their individual dynamics, which plays quite a big role.
There are some horrendously graphic scenes described in this book. I refer to one incident in particular, but I feel it has a purpose in this story, the entire focus of the series as well as - what I suspect to be - the prep for perhaps a future installment. Very well written, but utterly disturbing.
This entire series is highly recommended, but REV is so far my favorite. It feels there has been maturing in the writing by JC Emery. A trust she is putting in the reader now, to pick up on innuendo and suggestion she puts out there, that I haven't seen before. It's a compliment to us, her readers. And she does it damn well!!!
Grady is Sergeant At Arms of Forsaken MC, and not at all in sync with his brothers. They are currently at war with Mancuso Crime Family, because of personal drama within the Presidents family. He is prepared to lay his life down for his brothers, but not on board for another brother to die over something he deems unworthy. In the midst of all this, Holly the too prissy school employee enters to nag him about his teenage daughter, and accuse him of being a neglectful parent. Instant enemies are born.
The Good:
1. I really enjoy the writing style of this author. It does a lot to keep me engaged even when I'm unhappy with certain character behavior choices.
2. Holly is very feminine but is not a push over in a realistic way in extraordinary situations.
3. Grady's relationship with his teenage daughter is the most charming thing about him.
The Bad:
1. Grady is a tool. I have a very high alphahole tolerance, but he went past my limit...a lot.
2. I believed in their hate sex attraction but the switch to instalove transition happened too fast for me. Kind of "I hate you" on Tuesday, they kiss on Thursday, and by Saturday bride magazines start showing up in the mail.
3. At the end there is a very triggering event that left me so cold. I know that this stuff happens a lot in biker romance, but this one was too much for me.
Final Thoughts:
This series is still pretty solid, just hero problems kept it from earning an extra star.
This one was very slow going for me, I didn't like the characters much and I didn't feel their connection. It felt incomplete, club issues were brought up then never discussed again, Standoffs just disappeared.
Holly was returning to town after something, not sure what, her backstory was hinted at but was undefined. Overall I thought she was a bit of a shrew. Issues that she had at the end of the book were just danced over and all of a sudden it's year later and they're all better.
Rev was rude and horrible to her, not in an attractive a$&holes we love kind of way. He was pretty honest but I really didn't see this sudden attraction happening.
There was a very graphic scene that was pretty disturbing but didn't seem to be necessary for the plot of this book. I am assuming it was a set up for a future book in the series. I skipped over this but it may deeply upset some readers so please heed the authors warnings.
I will continue to read the series because I have enjoyed the other books. Rev was not the book for me...
For most of the book, the heroine, Holly, was pretty damn annoying. I kept waiting for her backstory which was hinted at to finally be revealed so I could make sense of her erratic behavior. Instead, it was given a half-ass "I'm not going to let my past rule me" when the past was never explained.
I liked Grady, for the most part. I liked seeing his sweet side with his mom and daughter. I even liked that he was pretty upfront about his feelings for Holly.
I just felt like there was something missing from the relationship - some information that would've make the connection understandable.
As far as the continuing story arc, some pretty ultra violent stuff goes down (those with trigger issues please be advised) and then all of a sudden the story jumps 2 years down the line and the reader was left with "we dealt with things".
I'm ho hum on this book but I'll still continue with the series.
I am one of the lucky beta readers for this awesome lady and I am here to tell you she gets better and better with each book she writes. This book had me hooked from the first line I read and to me the best of the series so far. you will love to hate Grady and keep in mind under the gruff exterior lies a true teddy bear. Our lady in this book is a tough lady and in my opinion a strong willed, hard loving lady who will always go above and beyond the call of duty to be there and help out someone she truly loves. the road to love wasnt easy in this book but it was fun to travel none the less. I love this series and I love this author and if you dont read and recommend this book then you will be missing a dang good story.I proudly give this book 5 stars.Thank you Ms. J.C. for allowing us to be a part of your team.we love you girl.
Book 3 of The Bayonet Scars Series Rev has it all you will laugh, you will be sad, you will get a little upset but the whole book keeps you interested from page 1 to the very end. Grady is an ass but we love our Forsaken men that way. Older than some Grady has a lot on his plate as the Sargent of Arms for the MC so when he runs into one Miss Holly well she turns his world on end. Holly someone new to our little group has lived a life not as perfect as her parents think she should have but she kept trying to please them until one day she ran smack into our Grady. Holly & Grady did not hit it off right away but there was that attraction & well they just could not get over it. You will enjoy the writing of Author JC Emery she can tell a story like no other. You will not regret this buy. Enjoy the amazing world of the Forsaken MC & you will love these men as much as I do.
Holly Mercer has made poor decision after poor decision, so much so that her actions have forced her to return to her hometown to try and figure out how to get her life back on track. Even though she’s broke and living with her parents, she’s determined to make it out on her own and start living her life according to her own rules, fighting off any instinct she has to get involved with anymore needy and self-destructive people. Too bad that’s exactly where she finds herself yet again when she goes out of her way to try and help a wayward teenage girl. Holly’s new job as secretary at the local high school puts her directly in the path of Grady, the Forsaken Motorcycle Club Sergeant-at-Arms. She’s attempting to get his daughter, Cheyenne, back on track so that she can graduate, but there’s not a lot of cooperation on his part, which for some reason infuriates Holly and makes her confront Grady. This is where everything gets complicated – Grady and Holly may appear to hate each other but underneath the nasty comments is quite a bit of sexual tension. When Holly finds herself in the middle of “club business,” Grady has to step up and protect her. As much as Grady fears for Holly’s safety, he also doesn’t know if he can trust her, but when things go from bad to worse, he doesn’t have a choice but to, and as they work together to stay safe and try to figure out who’s behind everything, the connection between them turns into something they never really saw coming, but will it be enough to overcome the horror Holly faces at the hands of people looking for payback against the club?
I love MC books; there’s just something about the motorcycle world that enthralls me. The Forsaken Motorcycle Club’s world is gritty and dangerous. J.C. Emery definitely takes readers into the darker side of this world and doesn’t hold back in describing what happens when people need information or demand revenge. While there are graphic and disturbing scenes in the series, they clearly show the extent that dangerous men go to, to get what they want. I have to admit, though, I had a bit of a hard time with Rev. Not with the events that occurred in the story, but more with the story’s development. There were times when I was reading that I just didn’t feel like everything was clearly explained, and it might just be because not much information is really known until the end of the text, but I was still left wondering about aspects of the storyline even when the people behind some of the acts are revealed.
I liked both Grady and Holly; they gave each other what they both truly needed, but I also felt like I didn’t truly get to see who they really are. Their pasts are a big reason for them being the way they are, and I wanted a bit more insight into their backgrounds besides the small glimpses that readers were given. I did love the relationship Grady had with his daughter and mother. Their interactions were great moments in the book because readers get to see a softer side of the badass biker, which made it easier to understand why Holly feels the way she does about him. It will be interesting what side of Grady comes out when readers get to read Chey and Jeremy's novella. It will definitely be interesting to see how dear old dad handles it all.
Overall, I enjoyed Rev. I just felt like there were missing pieces that would have given me a fuller picture of the characters as well as the storyline. I definitely will continue with the series and hopefully I’ll get some of my questions answered as it continues.

3.5 poison apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
*Sigh* I love this series. It is one of my favorite Motorcycle Hotties series. I adore JC Emery's men, and she always has fantastic leading ladies.
Rev picks up where Thrash leaves off. This is another thing I really like about this series. There is no huge time gap, and all of the books just flow together like they could have been all one book. There is just enough back story to "remind" you of what happened in the previous books, but not so much that you feel like you are reading the same book over and over again. The plot just flows from book to book. And although there hasn't been a solution to the "situation" that started in book one, there is no cliffhangers and you don't feel like anything is missing. The book is tied up nicely and also sets up the next book, which Iam seriously hoping is Jeremy aka Baby Boy and Cheyenne (Grady's Daughter). I loved them as side characters and I really really want to know their story, because reading Rev lets you know that something is going on...
Now, lets talk about Grady. Oh my-- can we say Lush?? I loved him. He was a total jerk, and he did not care if you thought he was. I think he actually tried to be as big of a jerk as he could be - like it was his life's mission. But, you discover he has a soft side, that when coaxed, comes out. He really surprised me with the way he would do things and the things that he found important. When he was all in, he was all in. And when he wanted something, he took it. And it did not matter what he had to do in order to get it. And although he came across as not caring about anything other than himself, turned out to be selfless.. he was amazing.
Holly... freaking loved her. She was sassy, smart and self sufficient. She was recovering from a bad situation, and decided to move back home and live with her friend in order to get back on top of her game. She didnt take crap from anyone, but she was always sweet about it, and her snarkiness made me want to cheer her on sometimes. She was not about to cave to anyone, including Grady. But what she didn't know was her smart mouth, her attitude and her willingness to throw a rant and stand up for herself, had Grady on his knees. Yet, she wants nothing to do with him. I mean, come on, the county's top cops daughter dating the towns outlaw motorcycle clubs sergeant in arms??? Yeah, not a good idea. But we don't control who we fall in love with do we??
The side characters in Rev were just as good as the main ones. Cheyenne, Grady's daughter, was very prominent and I really am hoping her story gets told. She was a huge part of Grady, and the way he is with her blew me away. This rough and tough tattooed bad boy, goes all mushy when it comes to his girl.
The Manusco's are still causing trouble. I really like the way the author has brought this plot through all of the books, yet I have not gotten tired of it and thought "OMG, can we just get on with it already. It's time to wrap this up." It has just flowed through, and we get a bonus bad guy in this one, that changes things and Im really anxious to see how it plays out. Because now Im wondering who the bad guys really are.
Rev is a perfect addition to the Bayonet Scars series. And I am now anxious to get my hands on the next one!!! I was begging for Jeremy's story after Thrash... and Iam begging for Jeremy's story again-- Please please please let Jeremy's story be next!!!!
In the third book of the Forsaken MC series we learn more about Rev and meet Holly Mercer. They live in the same town but may as well come from different planets! She is the good girl that lives by the letter of the law and he is the bad boy that does it his way. They have nothing in common, or do they?
Holly Mercer has returned to her home town and the family that she has never felt that she was good enough for. She has the bad habit of becoming involved with the most needy, self-destructive people around, including her best friend Mindy. Mindy is a drug addict, an alcoholic and her father is a policeman. Holly is there to support Mindy and help heal. She finds a job at the local high school and is assigned Cheyenne Grady, a senior that is in jeopardy of failing. After trying without success to contact and set up a conference with Cheyenne’s dad, Holly is left with no choice but to go on a home visit. The man she meets is not what she was expecting, a member of the local outlaw MC and so hot just looking at him burns.
Grady is the Sergeant at Arms for the Forsaken MC. He is raising his teenage daughter by himself and trying to teach her to be self-sufficient but it’s not an easy job. When he finds a woman on his doorsteps that says she needs to talk with him about his daughter, he immediately puts her in her place. No one tells him how to raise his daughter! Who does this woman think she is? Everything has gone crazy at the club, his best friend Chief is dead and for what? Now he has to deal with a crazy woman from the school trying to tell what to do! So why does he find himself thinking about her?
The club is being hit on all sides by the Mancusco Mafia. Since the kidnapping of their leader’s daughter and the capture of her twin brother, war has been declared. Will Holly discover that the MC world is for her? Does Grady want a relationship with her? Is Holly really a bad girl after all? Read this amazing story and you will not be disappointed at the conclusion!
Would I recommend this book: Yes. This book has it all! An MC brother that falls for his teenage daughter's counselor and of course lots of hot sex follows! It also is extremely violent and some parts are not for the faint of heart. This is an outlaw MC that is at war.
Would I recommend this author: Yes. Each book that this author creates is better than the previous. J.C. Emery is a remarkable example of how MC books should read! I look forward to reading more from this amazing writer.
***Received an ARC of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review***
I am not sure how to feel about this book. It took awhile for the book to grab a hold of me and drag me into the story. Overall I enjoyed it, I mean it has hot MC guys with tats, club drama, could have used little more for me, tears, laughs and a love story of course.
We meet Holly Mercer who has to move back home to live with her parents before deciding to share an apartment with her cousin Mindy. Holly has made several bad decisions in her life but one of the best ones might be when she decided to go head to head with biker Sterling Grady Forsaken’s Sergeant at Arms. Holly is the counselor at the local high school and will do everything she can to get Grady’s daughter back on track to graduate high school.
Sterling Grady who will do anything for his daughter, his mom and his Brothers in the club. He is stubborn, does not do well with someone that tells him what to do and has absolutely no idea what he is going to do with a nosy Holly. No one tells him how to raise his daughter. He tries his best to scare her away but she refuses to give up without a fight.
Holly has always had a thing for the bad boys and Grady is no different. She knows better than to want anything from him but her body want him like no other. Once things heat up between Grady and Holly, she realized that she is over her head in love with him.
As there continues to be threats to the club, Holly seems to always be caught in the middle of them. When Holly is taken, Grady does not like the feeling he has that he was unable to keep her safe and he needs to find her.
Will Grady be able to save Holly and keep her safe from outside threats? Can Holly make an honest man out of Grady by being his Old Lady?
This series has been a bit of a crazy ride for me. I wasn't a huge fan of book #1, but I absolutely loved book #2. Coming up to the release of book #3 and I admit, after TRASH turning out so good, I was definitely excited about reading the latest addition to the BAYONET SCARS series, but was it all I had hoped?
Much like the series as a whole, I have mixed feelings over REV. I generally liked Holly as a character. She was a bit spunky and I loved that she wasn't afraid to stand up to Grady, even though he could be pretty scary and intimidating. But she had a tendency to come off as kind of irritating at times. I loved Grady, himself. Loved, loved, loved him! I am such a sucker for a Harley riding guy in a leather cut, and Grady was no exception.
I love how the storyline involving the Mancuso crime family is still ongoing, and the brothers are under constant threat, because it helps to keep it exciting, and keeps you on your toes because you just don't know what will happen next.
The story had a habit of jumping from one point to another though. Throughout the book as I started a new chapter, and was hoping for the previous scene to continue on so I could find out what happened, it skipped to something completely different, and this happened in a big way towards the very end, with nothing really being resolved.
And if you suffer from triggers then be careful when reading this book. There is a very graphic, disturbing scene in REV that I would probably advice you not to read.
I was in two minds about rating this book. 3.5 or 4 stars?? But my love for Grady won out. This series has so much potential, and I'm not giving up on it yet.
Grady he comes off a little rough around the edges, "you think you're the only one who's been inconvenienced here? The twenty-five grand I have to spend to keep your mouth closed pi**es me off. Normally when I give a bi*** money it's for her to open her mouth, not close it." He can be a meanie weanie sometimes, "let's get a few things straight - I am not a patient man. I've been kind so far, but make no mistake about it, I do not like improvising. You want to tell the entire effing world that you effed me, go right ahead baby. You tell everybody I put my d*** inside you and pummeled you so hard you're having trouble walking today. You tell everybody how I effed you hard and effed you raw. In fact, you want my d*** so badly, take it." Oh the boy gets all worked up over nothing, if he would have listened he wouldn't have had the problem, "his entire body resting against mine and his hand cradling my neck. Slowly, he tilts my neck so that I'm forced to face him. "You threw twenty-five grand out of a moving vehicle," he says." Holly and Grady sure have some weird conversations when they're doing some naughty business, "he moves his hand away and watches as I wrap my hand around his rock hard co** and pump him slowly. His words dissolve into a moan as he says, "then he's going to suffer when he dies." I did like this book but my favorite is still Ryan I'm actually really looking forward to Jeremy and Chey's story that one will be entertaining.
At first, I thought this one wasn't as crazy as the first one (Ride) but then phew! the stuff near the end (and I won't give it away). Holly and Grady were more mature main characters than those in Ride and Thrash, and I enjoyed that aspect and this book a lot. Grady was pretty mean in the first two books in the series, especially with his attitude about Alex, and here he's still pretty mean and grouchy at times. I liked how Holly, who has been fighting herself and her natural inclinations to not be a goody-goody, finds Grady and then is able to be herself, not the sham she was being for her family. And Cheyenne, Grady's daughter, is just a gem to read about - loved the epilogue.
This series is well-written, and with the Italian Mafia and other local enemies, Emery gives us the grittiness of what a one-percent(er) pot growing and distributing MC would be doing. In this one, there are a few scenes that some readers might not like/enjoy due to violence to women, but the story seems right for what this MC really is.
This is one series I waited to read until the first three books were out, and now it's also one for which I can't wait to read the books that follow. Five stars for me.
Cheyenne is having trouble in school and is on the verge of being expelled. Holly doesn't want to see that happen and goes to Chey's father for help. Grady isn't receptive to her at all. In fact he is combative and offensive telling her to mind her own business. That all changes when his daughter is in danger and Holly steps in which puts her in danger as well. He lets down his walls and begins to care for her. He wants to protect her.
Grady and Holly together are off the chart hot. Whether they are bickering or sharing a passionate moment, they are scorching. I loved seeing Grady falling for her. Especially knowing his part in the MC. This other side of him is just plain sexy.
Now I give you fair warning that there is a rape scene that Holly witnesses. It is graphic and brutal. It is heart wrenching and breaks Holly, but Grady is there to piece her back together.
Love reading how these hard ass bikers are so loyal to each other, the club, their family. Grady has two sides, his club persona and then his Dad side. He loves his daughter Cheyenne and is not willing to talk with Holly, her counselor at school. Holly is determined to help the students that are being targeted by the principal. Holly is pushing Grady to his limit. Then Holly is inadvertently caught in the middle of some club business and the mafia shows up at school to leave a message for Grady. Grady takes care of Holly in the aftermath of a horrific incident. Time spent together brings these two closer and Grady has his eyes wide open and goes forward with his decision. He wants Holly, and not just for fun and games, he wants her as his Old Lady. These two stubborn people push and pull at each other through out this story. I give this 4 stars.
Once again great writing style, with interesting, well developed characters. I really liked the h, Holly. I thought she was a great balance of smart, caring, a little sassy, and tough all at the same time. She knew her limits, when to push, and I really didn't notice any tstl movements--which doesn't happen often for me. The Romance develops gradually, even though the attraction is apparent immediately. Very violent at end (some readers will find it very distressing), however, I liked the way the aftermath of the "incident" was dealt with. It felt more realistic to me, then an immediate "everything goes quickly back to the way it was". I Really enjoyed epilogue.
Okay so I totally DNF this one at 20% for many reasons. I love a good biker romance and in fact I was having a good streak with them until this one. The plot was great and the story seemed very promising but the execution? Nah.
I didn't like the writing style, it gets too dragged and overwhelming, I found myself skipping pages just to reach the important parts but my main dislike of this book is the main guy. I know we all love an alpha douche who is hard around the edges and blah blah blah but the guy here was a complete asshole! He had no respect for Holly and was a crappy father, I honestly couldn't put pass the way he threatens Holly, so no. This one didn't work for me at all.
Well I've been waiting for this book and finally I've read it and it was worth the wait Rev and Holly were everything I hoped they would be Rev alpha male Holly sassy not taking any of his crap sexual tension off the charts 52% in we get our first kiss and man I waited for the fireworks and I was not disappointed 92% in and cue the tears that was hard to read my heart was breaking for Mindy and Holly. The epilogue was awesome I want more more more JC I was thinking maybe Mindy and Ian hey what do u think lol 5 amazing stars!!!!
There are a lot of biker story's around but I have to say this is one of the best I have read so far. It was raw, emotional, and it also has extreme scenes...........but its got a story. A good story and each book I have read (3 so far) has gathered in strength.
I am not sure where JC Emery is going with the next one but the Mafia plot has gone quiet (for now?) and there is still a lot of unfinished business with them so I hope there a lot more of these books to come.
JC Emery is now on my radar and I look forward to the next story in this very well written series.
My favorite of the series. Grady was a little bit, ok a big bit rough around the edges, but I enjoyed that Holly stood up to him. I felt there was a slow burn to their romance, which is kinda rare.
Holy crap does J.C. Emery know how to keep readers on edge! This is the 3rd book in the series and it's getting even better and better and.... yep, you guess it...better! Talking about keeping you glued to the reader and sitting up on edge...even at times yelling at character or two... You're really missing out if you have not started this series yet! But it's time for me to move forward to the next one...
Yeah I don't know how I feel about this series.....On one hand I love it, because I enjoy a great MC book and this one is raw, gritty, angsty, and full of drama but on the other hand I don't know why we have to read about a brutal rape in every single book. I mean does this have to happen all the time?? So as I said before not sure how I feel about this.....
