BOOK 1: The Basic User
A USER FRIENDLY COMPUTER BOOK
Introduction: The goal of this book is to assist the layman computer user in keeping their computer working smoothly and efficiently. The procedures and techniques related here are the same as those used in the better computer repair shops and put in the simplest of terms for you.
This book is written by an electronic telecommunications technologist with over 35 years experience in this field. In my career I have written a number of easy to follow test procedure manuals, installation manuals and course manuals for trainees in numerous countries. Writing this book, in comparison, has been a far easier and much more enjoyable project.
Only chapter 1 deals with Windows 8 exclusively. All other chapters are applicable to ALL windows operating systems and we use Windows 7 for all the instructions!! We will keep the instructions as simple and concise as possible. Wherever we can, we will provide you with pictures ( screen shots) to simplify the explanations for you. Hopefully, it will help you avoid more serious problems requiring a professional service technician and several dollars.
Be assured, all software we recommend you download and use is SAFE and FREE!!! We recommend it simply because we have used it hundreds of times and know it WORKS!!!!

I spent 30 some years, working all over the world, building/testing/commissioning/quality controlling Microwave/Fiber/Satellite Communications Networks. Mostly long haul networks until the advent of cellular networks that use short link/light density mini-link urban systems.
I worked in Saudi Arabia for 10 years then went free-lance contracting, working in USA, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Brazil.
A few years ago I tired of all the travel and turned my interest to the hardware/software repair of computers. Noticing how inept most people are with computer usage, I decided to write some self help books on the subject. There are three books planned. The Basic User, The Intermediate User and The Advanced User. The first is currently published only with Amazon

The only computer book out there (that I can find) that walks you through step by step, assisted by screen shots, to properly download/install/use safe "FREE" clean-up and protection software that will make your computer run faster and safer. In addition we teach how and when to do a "user data" back-up!

Just bought your first computer? Just bought a new one? Not sure if you have the best protection against viruses? Then this little gem is for you! In very simple terms, with helpful step-by-step instructions and illustrations, this book helps you to set up your Windows computer and internet while avoiding add-ons that will simply slow down your computer or, even worse, invade your privacy. It then instructs you on how to download safe free programs for keeping your computer virus-free and clearing unnecessary files. It includes tips on backing up your files regularly and keeping your computer clean and secure, as well as ways to resolve slow internet browser problems and ways to avoid future problems. I found this book much more helpful than anything I've looked at in the "for Dummies" series!

Here is a great tool to add to your "must have" book shelf. With all the spammers and hackers out there who prey on the big and the little internet users, this tool can save you a lot of grief and money. How do you know if a technician you must access by phone or online is honest? You don't. With this manual, you no longer need to take your chances in the dark. I certainly wish I'd found this book sooner.

The author has many years of computer tech experience and is visible on his web sites, so you feel you can trust him. Nevertheless, it took courage for me to step out in faith, trusting I wouldn't end up with a broken system. I needn't have feared. He walks you through the basic setup, care, and maintenance of your computer, relying on powerful software you can download and use for free. Not every step will resemble what your computer screen is like, but in most cases it does or is close enough for the instructions to work. For example, the directions say to click on the cogwheel to access the next step. That worked fine on one browser, but on another, I had to click on tools to get the same access. What you see will depend on the program you are using and its date. I noticed that difference when I used this book on my laptop and then on my PC.

Constructing a procedure that fits all computer programs is impossible, I think, so I am awed at how well and how helpful this manual is. After finishing it, I was surprised at how my laptop screen, which had always been faint, is now as bright as the screen of my PC. And both computers are now faster.

I highly recommend this manual for every computer user.
