First Elite by Emmanuel M. Arriaga is an electrifying science fiction novel that explores themes of grief, vengeance, and personal transformation. The story follows Neven Kenk, a protagonist driven by loss and a burning desire for retribution, who forms an unlikely alliance with a fierce warrior and a sentient AI. United by a common purpose, they embark on a dangerous quest to hunt down the killer of Neven's wife. As their journey unfolds, they begin to uncover ancient truths and ultimately confront the legendary First Elite, navigating a galaxy rich with political intrigue and complex moral challenges.

Author Emmanuel M. Arriaga throws us into a science fiction universe that is both expansive and intimately personal. I felt immediately drawn into the intricate world-building and the emotional journey that our unlikely trio goes through as the whole universe challenges them from every angle. Arriaga's exploration of grief and moral complexity through Neven Kenk adds significant depth to what could have been a straightforward revenge narrative, offering brilliant dialogue and inner monologue that perfectly balances tender and dramatic moods. The dynamic relationships between Neven, Tashanira, and Ellipse bring a vibrant and nuanced energy to the story, making the characters feel incredibly real and multi-dimensional. A skillful balance of high-octane action sequences and moments of deep reflection creates a narrative that is both thrilling and thoughtful. The author's ability to weave complex political dynamics with personal storytelling sets this novel apart in the science fiction genre, offering something with intellectual and moral dimensions that is fresh and original. First Elite is an ambitious, emotionally grounded science fiction epic that balances large-scale world building with intimate questions of grief, loyalty, and identity. Emmanuel M. Arriaga delivers a galaxy rich in political intrigue and mythic history, but it’s the emotional core of the story that gives the novel its weight.

Neven Kenk’s journey begins in vengeance, but the novel quickly complicates that impulse. His loss is not treated as a narrative excuse for violence, but as a wound that reshapes his sense of self and purpose. The dynamic between Neven, the formidable Tashanira, and the sentient AI Ellipse is especially compelling each character embodying a different relationship to duty, memory, and survival.

What stands out most is the novel’s interrogation of service and power. The Founders and their immortal authority cast a long shadow over the story, and the concept of the First Elite reframes heroism as something costly, even corrosive. The deeper the characters travel into the Twin Galaxies, the more the narrative shifts from pursuit to reckoning.

Arriaga blends action, philosophy, and political tension with confidence. The revelations surrounding the Elites and the nature of the empire elevate the story beyond a revenge arc into a meditation on what it means to rebuild after loss and what loyalty demands in return.

First Elite will strongly resonate with readers who enjoy character driven space opera, morally complex worlds, and science fiction that isn’t afraid to ask hard questions beneath its spectacle.

"First Elite," by Emmanuel M. Arriaga is a fascinating blend of science fiction and space opera that explores grief, vengeance, and personal transformation. The story centers on Neven Kenk, a member of the Huzien Empire, who is devastated by the brutal murder of his wife and unborn child. Determined to track down the mysterious killer, Entradis, he teams up with Tashanira, a Uri warrior; however, the mission faces unexpected challenges, leading to devastating outcomes and testing their strength and loyalty.

I found this book to be highly engaging, combining high-stakes action with intense emotional depth. The exploration of Neven's internal struggles combined with the external conflicts he faces provides a balanced and engaging read. The dynamic between Neven, Tashanira, and Ellipse is especially interesting, exploring themes of trust, redemption, and the complications of vengeance.

Overall, I found this to be a thought-provoking and exciting addition to the Foundra series. It not only advances the primary plot but also explores the moral and emotional effects of its characters' choices. For those who enjoy science fiction that challenges the mind and resonates with the heart, this novel is a must-read.

First Elite isn’t just another sci-fi revenge tale it’s a deep, character-driven story about grief, purpose, and what it truly means to serve something greater than yourself. Neven Kenk’s journey grabbed me from the very first line. His pain feels raw and real, and the way it drives him across galaxies makes every decision hit harder.

Tashanira and Ellipse bring such distinct energy to the story one a fierce warrior, the other an AI with surprising humanity. The trio’s bond and banter reminded me of Mass Effect or The Expanse, but with a more emotional core. The pacing balances quiet, reflective moments with breathtaking action scenes that feel cinematic.

And that ending? I’m still thinking about it. The confrontation with the First Elite raises big questions what does loyalty cost when your leaders are immortal? How much of your identity survives after you’ve given everything to a cause?

This is the kind of book that lingers. If you like sci-fi with soul, moral tension, and galaxy-sized stakes, First Elite is absolutely worth the journey.

I didn’t expect this book to hit me as hard as it did.
From the opening chapter, Neven’s grief feels real raw enough that I found myself slowing down just to take in what he’d lost. The story isn’t just about chasing a killer; it’s about what vengeance does to someone’s soul and how the people around you become the only thing keeping you grounded.

The dynamic between Neven, Tashanira, and Ellipse is one of the best parts of the book. Their bond feels earned, and even when tensions rise, the loyalty between them feels powerful. The world-building pulled me in completely there’s this sense of ancient history and hidden truths lurking behind every planet, every decision, every mission.

By the time they reach the First Elite, the emotional weight has built up so much that the reveal feels both shocking and inevitable. This story mixes grief, politics, mystery, and action in a way that kept me turning pages. It’s thoughtful, intense, and honestly one of the most layered sci-fi adventures I’ve read in a while.

Incredible!

If you have read the previous two books in the series, this book is a must if you want to know the outcome of the story and the character arcs as it makes the story three times as exciting.

The story of this saga explores very well themes such as: grief, betrayal and the personal struggle to rebuild oneself after a painful loss, which gives an emotional touch to the story and makes one as a reader connect that much more. If your thing is stories with adventure, revenge, mysteries and above all a very well constructed parallel universe then this is the book you should read. In my opinion it is important to read the first 2 books to understand the story.

Totally recommended!

Happily continuing the Foundra saga is First Elite, Book 3 in the series by Emmanuel Arriago. If you haven't read the previous two, it's best to start there to get the full meaning behind the characters and plot. In this book, Neven is determined to find out who killed his wife, and his colleagues are right there with him. But someone is determined that secrets stay buried, and the group of would-be heroes end up disgraced and removed from their positions. Of course, that doesn't mean they give up. But the challenges in this science fiction universe are both dangerous and exciting, and you'll keep turning the pages to see what happens next.

I thought the book had vibrant action scenes, and the level of tension made me want to keep reading, wondering what will happen next. It is an exciting sci-fi story about revenge but also it touches subjects like loss and purpose. The main character, Neven Kenk, is very committed in a mission to find his wife’s killer, trying to do justice after such a tragedy.
What’s interesting to me is the recruiting of an AI to fight alongside him and face dangerous enemies.
I think the book is captivating because of all the emotions the reader goes through that relates to some parts of the story, and that makes it very relatable, although scenarios may differ.
To sum up, I think this sci-fi is a good choice for readers into deep characters and topics behind the lines.

I really enjoyed reading this third installment by Emmanuel Arriaga. If you haven’t read the first two books, that isn’t a problem at all because Arriaga provides all the necessary details and descriptions throughout the story. From the very first pages, I felt immersed in the main plot.
I love reading this kind of book—full of revenge, with a touch of science fiction, some tension between the characters, and plenty of unexpected plot twists that give the story a great rhythm.
I would highly recommend this book to any reader looking for an exciting and well-written story with a touch of science fiction. Very recommended. You’ll not regret about it!

This book is basically a real space opera and a revenge tale. The world-building here is exquisite, dripping with detail that makes the Huzien Empire feel lived-in and vast. What truly elevates the story is its emotional core. That said, the novel’s pacing occasionally sacrifices quieter character moments, and some of the political intrigues might require a second read to fully untangle. But these are minor quibbles. First Elite is for those who love their sci-fi with soul, a tale that asks what we’re willing to sacrifice for redemption. And yeah, this is the third book in the series so I would recommend reading the first two before this.

Wow, First Elite took me on a ride I didn’t expect. It starts as a revenge story but turns into something much deeper a reflection on grief, loyalty, and what it means to find purpose again after losing everything.

Neven Kenk’s pain feels so real, and pairing him with Tashanira (the fearless Uri warrior) and Ellipse (the AI with more heart than most humans) made the story even more powerful. I loved the mix of emotion and action the world feels huge, yet the characters keep it grounded.

By the time the trio faces the First Elite, I was hooked. It made me ask myself: how much would I give up for duty? And what happens when the truth you’ve been fighting for turns out to be a lie?

If you love sci-fi adventures with real emotional weight, this book should be on your list.

As someone who reads a lot of sci-fi with military and political elements, First Elite surprised me with how deeply personal the story felt. Yes, there are galaxy-spanning missions, elite warriors, and high-stakes conflicts but at the heart of everything is Neven’s struggle to figure out who he becomes after tragedy destroys his life.

The interplay between the characters is fantastic. Tashanira stands out immediately strong, complicated, and fiercely loyal—and Ellipse brings a perspective that’s both alien and strangely human. Their failed mission early in the book sets the tone: this isn’t a story where the heroes always win, and that makes everything feel more real.

I picked up First Elite expecting a standard revenge story, but it turned out to be much more. Neven’s grief drives the plot, but the emotional journey especially his connection with Tashanira and Ellipsegives the book real heart.

The world is huge, complex, and full of secrets, and every new location feels like it carries history. The twist involving the First Elite genuinely caught me off guard, and the moral questions it raises made me stop and think.

If you enjoy character-driven sci-fi with depth, emotion, and twisty politics, this is absolutely worth reading.
