Action, romance, steamy goodness and dragons!

The heroine: Angelika - One of the quadruplets born of the Phoenix and the White King before both were murdered by the evil Red King Pytheios. Angelika’s three sisters are now mated to the Gold King, Blue King and Black King. Unlike her sisters, Angelika is dormant and has no Phoenix powers. Though she wants to join the fight agains High King Pytheios.
The Hero(es): Airk - He was next in line to the white throne after Pytheios killed Angelika’s father and Grandparents. Pytheios would have killed him as well but for a curse that said whomever killed Airk would be consumed by his own fire. So instead Pytheios put Airk in his dungeon near the top of Mount Everest and kept him there for over 500 years in a dragon steel cell where he couldn’t shift.
The Story: Airk escaped the dungeon in the last book when one of Angelika’s sisters was taken captive and put in the dungeon alongside Airk. Now Airk is staying at Mount Ararat with Samael the Black King, Queen Meira and the black clan. They want him to talk to villages from the white clan to turn them away from Pytheios so they can help fight against the false High King. Angelika wants to help.
I love the way they travel using mirrors as portals, she is able to move (or move people) anywhere in the world as long as a mirror is handy. It is Angelika’s sister Meira who has that ability so she always has to be present when someone is coming or going through a mirror. Angelika’s sister Kasia has the sight. Kasia gets visions like their grandmother used to. Their grandmother was the one who told the prophecy about Airk which got him locked in the dungeon for 500 years instead of killed. Skylar has the power of teleportation and is able to teleport anyone but herself long distances.
I really like the fact that though Angelika is either dormant or human and has no Phoenix powers, she is able to use her wits and her personality to help the fight against the Red King as much if not more than any of her sisters that have phoenix powers. She is strong in her own way without any powers to help her.

The Cursed King by Abigail Owens
Last book, #4, of the Inferno Rising series. Paranormal dragon shifter romance.
Angelika, the last Phoenix sister to mate. Strategic or for romance? She offers herself to Airk, a white dragon. Airk has never let his dragon free considering his 500 years of captivity and doesn’t trust that he ever will. Angelika deserves more than he can give. At least until he has some competition.
The ultimate goal of of the dragon clans the sisters have mated into, is to defeat the dragon that killed their parents, Pytheios. His witch has made a false Phoenix, tricking, killing and cheating his way to High King.
This story is a relief in a way. Finally, we get to see this monster defeated. That’s not really a spoiler as this is the conclusion to the series. And it’s romance. While the whole series aims at this goal, Pytheios takes up only a portion of this story. Mostly this is Angelika deciding she wants to be an important part of the battle and not just hidden away. And wow, she stands up and becomes an influencer. Airk is a bit angsty but that is to be expected after his being held prisoner for so long.
A sexy romance between Angelika and Airk repeats as he says “no” until they find their way.
A satisfying conclusion to a hot (lots of fire with dragons and Phoenix) and sexy paranormal romance series.

A wonderful conclusion to what has been an absolutely delightful series!
I loved seeing all of our previous main couples make significant appearances in this final installment. It was also great to see them tying in other shifters, species, and witches because it left potential for some interesting spin-offs as well.
Main Characters
Angelika
The youngest of her sisters Angelika has always struggled to find her place among her more gifted sisters. Angelika likes to see the good in everyone. She had this unshakeable faith that people will do the right thing if given the chance. An opinion I did not always agree with, but I appreciated her heart and wealth of character.
Airk
I liked him. But I also wanted to smack him across the face. I know he meant well and he has obviously been through a lot, but he changed his mind about being with Angelika so many times I was getting whiplash. He is lucky she had a heart of gold and a well of patience because I can't say I would have forgiven him so easily for playing with my heart.
I've said this directly on the author's Facebook page. The ending was not what I expected. But in the best sort of way. When it comes to books with guaranteed happy endings they can sometimes feel too rushed or too predictable. That was not the case with this book, which I love. I like it when an author manages to surprise me.
All-in-all I adored this series. It is fun, sexy, and easily binge-able.

True story my friends and it was fu••ink awesome !
This starts where the 3 rd book left off with the Black, Blue, and Gold Clans rising up against the corrupt regime in place for five hundred years: the Red, Green, and White Clans that supported Pytheios , the no-longer-rotting King of the Red Clan. The mated phoenixes and their kings are having a hard time getting more allies in this final battle and here is where our main characters come into play.
But first things first.. Do you remember Airk ,the white dragon that was locked in the dungeons 500 years by that rotten red high king? Yeah , he is the rightful king of the white clan and a badass at that even with spending all his life locked and tortured. He also has a feral dragon inside due to his lack of never shifting but let me tell you, that man is glorious. I've always had a soft spot for tortured heroes and this guy hit the spot. Loved him ❤
Angelika is the last of the 4 sister, the doormat Phoenix, but this girl is no lady in distress. She is pretty adamant she takes her place in this last scene against Pytheios and is doing everything in her power to prove her assets.
As a couple,Airk and Angelika had their ups and downs ,mostly because Airk holds himself back for almost half of the book, but common 😅 the guy never stood a chance in the face of persuasive Phoenix.
I liked that we got other main characters pov chapters too, kinda missed being in the other guys heads😁,also wouldn't mind a spin off for other intriguing characters actually.
Why 4 stars? Although I am ok with how the author wrapped everything up I'm not sure it was evenly fair for everyone, although it makes sense for the powerless one to get her moment of shine.😋
Overall this is an engaging series, with complex characters and solid plot , dragons lovers should not miss it that's a fact!

I’m gonna be brief (I have about 20 books to review because I’ve just been reading and not coming on here to write a review straight away as I usually do).
As a conclusion to the 4 part interconnected stand-alones this was good. Compared to book 3 and even 2 this was definitely better.
It felt like a really long one although it was around 400 pages. A lot happened. The male MC was more wishy washy than I would usually tolerate but it was explained away quite well so it didn’t bother me much in the end.
There were twists I didn’t see coming and some angsty and sad parts as well. I can’t really explain much because I’d give the plot away but I did like Angelika’s character development.
Overall I’m glad I did stick with this series to the end. It wasn’t mind blowing great but it was a good time.

Oh. My. Goodness! This book was everything I had been waiting for since I first picked up The Rogue King and watched as each phoenix had found it’s true mate… and the battle for the true High King raged on. Now it is Angelika’s turn, but what will happen to the last unmated phoenix that has none of the special phoenix gifts.
Arik is “Broken. Cast aside. Forgotten.” After over 500 years in the Rotting King’s dungeon, with his dragon trapped, he no longer feels worthy of affection, love, or tenderness. His dragon is feral and a risk to all those around him. He feels he is expendable and he has one mission, to end the rotting king's reign.
Arik and Angelika together… WOW! Angelika is calm to Arik’s storm. The soothing balm to his soul, if he would just take a chance. But can he risk his dragon taking control and potentially ending the only good that has ever touched him?
The Cursed King takes us to the final battle between good and evil and the series has been leading to this moment. All our favorites are in this book, the sisters Kasia and her mate Brand, Skylar and her mate Ladon, Miera and her mate Samael, all ready to battle for what is right.
Once I started this final journey, I was fully engaged until I turned the final page. I laughed, cried, and my heart swelled with joy and heartache.
I do not want to spoil anything so I will leave you with this,,, the Inferno Rising Series is an amazing tale filled with secrets, suspense, sisterly love, and steam and The Cursed King was a fantastic conclusion to a series I never wanted to end. If you are looking for protective dragons, and the strong women that fall for them, this is your series! A five star series and a five star book in my opinion and I recommend this without hesitation!

Airk spent 500 years locked in a dungeon being tortured and wasn't able to shift into his dragon. But now that he's been rescued and is a prisoner no more, his dragon is feral and dangerous so he can't shift and let the monster out even now. Airk is the rightful king of the white dragon clan but most people are either scared of him, don't believe he is who he says he is or won't go against Pytheios.
Angelika is a phoenix shifter like her sisters but she isn't able to shift and has no powers so she offers to mate Airk out of a sense of duty so Airk would have some leverage to get people to follow him. Airk says no though and even though Angelika has feelings for him, she doesn't let that stop her from trying to change his mind.
Because Airk feels like he's dangerous and can't shift, he doesn't plan to take on a mate but Angelika is persistent and they both have feelings for each other. Because she doesn't give up trying to help him and wanting to show others that she can be of use as well, they are thrown together on many occasions, getting to know each other better. Airk has feelings for her but is afraid his dragon will take over and hurt or kill her even though his dragon feels protective and content around her.
Airk was frustrating at times though because he said no to her so many times so I was happy that she didn't give up and kept going after what she wanted. So Airk tries to talk some of the white clan into turning their support away from Pytheios and Angelika helps him. It was nice to watch them get closer and it was wonderful to see the characters from the other books make an appearance in this one as well.
This is the 4th book in the Inferno Rising series and I would definitely suggest you read this series in order for it to make more sense. This book also wraps up this series in such a magnificent way even though I was sad to see it come to an end.

This is one of the more unique dragon shifter series I've read. I love the idea of a a phoenix and dragon as mated pairs. It's not something I've read before and I enjoyed it that much more for it. I also really liked that the author saved the two most unlikely people to be the ones to save their people, although I won't spoil with details.
Airk is easily my favorite hero from the series. I have always had a thing for the strong silent alpha's that almost come off as cold. To me, that makes their bond with the heroine that much more special. You do get a lot of resistance from Airk, which I don't love, but I also recognize how it was necessary due to what he saw as his weakness to protect her.

The fourth and final book in the Inferno Rising series, The Cursed King is an epic conclusion and a fantastic read. It’s such an engrossing story – emotional, action-packed, and riddled with danger, romance, friendship, and sisterly love. MIND BLOWN
I can't believe how underrated this serie is. I loved it, every single book was amazing, but this last one? I'm still not over it. I might just re-read the whole series.
My only disppaointement is that it seems like there will be no more books, and I am so sad. I would have gladly had next settlements about their new lives and politics and other couples coming together.
Love love love this series, this is the best there is with dragons IMO <3
This last settlement follows Airk and Angelika. Airk is a white dragon. Just a child when Pytheios killed the white King and his phoenix mate, Airk was then made prisoner in the Everest, and has stayed there for the last 500 years. Unable to get out, never able to shift, his dragon side is untamed and he exerces absolute control over his dragon so he can never be let out and turn feral. The only thing that makes him lose control is Angelika.
The beautiful phoenix is making his dragon go crazy, and the man too. But he can never let himself go, he cannot risk hurting her, but she makes it damn difficult to resist her.
Angelika is the weak link in her sisterhood. Each of her sister has been blessed with one of her mother's powers but she got nothing. No power, no phoenix sign whatsoever, and she is tired of being protected and left behind, she wants to act. She proposes to go talk to the clans to try and make allies to rally more people against Pytheios, and she asks for Airk to be by her side. She sees the good in bim and she wishes he would too.
A damaged dragon than can never shift and a dormant phoenix might actually be a perfect match.
This book..... this book was not what I expected. I wasn't sure if I would like this couple, what with him being damaged and her being dormant, but I should never have doubted Abigail Owen's mastery. I am in awe of her imagination and the wonderful world she has built.
I was in tears by the end of the book, it was so beautiful and I didn't see it coming to be honest. I absolutely LOVED this book, it is the perfect ending to this perfect series and I never thought it would but turns out my favorite book in the series as well.

Angelika Amon is the last unmated phoenix, one who has O-Phoenix power and is constantly annoyed by it.
Of course, she knows magic and can even do a few tricks, but that still doesn't make her a real phoenix. Or so she thinks.
Her thoughts revolve around her sisters and Airk, who serves as her bodyguard after his release from captivity.
She has a few ideas about what she'd like him to be or do with her, but Airk is people shy.
Especially one person, Angelika.
I love this book.
The conclusion to this amazing series is exciting, action-packed, and dramatic.
But it is also full of sarcastic, hilarious banter and Abigail Owen's unmistakable sense of humor.
I really enjoyed this extraordinary story.

Solid conclusion to the dragon kings series, which I have really enjoyed. I liked the backstory of Airk and Angelika and the struggles they needed to overcome to fulfill their destinies. Both felt lesser and limited inside themselves, and very gradually and naturally grew to accept themselves and ultimately were the stronger for it.
Where the story veered off for me was the overwhelming introduction of all the magic and paranormal creatures. Owen very clunkily dropped in characters from other books in order to crosspollinate her readers. It was jarring to the story and disloyal to the story arc she has built with the dragons. Quit listening to your publisher, who wants to sell more books, and listen to your characters and their stories. This conclusion suffered for it.

Oiii what a ride! I knew Angelika would be special.
I waited for this book more eagerly than the others because Angelika was somehow more relatable. I knew her character arc would be one of the good ones to see. And I sure did like whatever Abigail served.
What's special about this series is, there is a lot of new nuances introduced; instead of capitalizing on the old paranormal devices. So it makes the plot richer, making it even more interesting to read.
Angelika is a phoenix and Arik has more claim to the White dragon throne. As the youngest of all, she is protected. But like a fierce female, she wants to proof her worth too and assist her sisters in the battles about to come. Arik is a jumbled soul, his dragon feral because of the years in captivity he spent in the Everest. Honestly, I expected him to be more of a mess (in the inner brooding tortured and broken soul kind of a way). Still it was good to see him recover from all of that.
Overall, I did like the book. The only thing for me was that I felt Abigail's heroes sometimes end up being on the same frequency in the end. Other than that, it was all good.
I absolutely love the series. A hundred on hundred recommend.

One of my favorite dragon series, the final book of the Inferno series was full of surprises!! I will concede Airk frustrated me with his wish-washy feelings for Angelika more times than I’d care to count, however, I kept telling myself she had good reason to hold out hope for him. Like, I really, really, hoped she had good reason. Angelika was my favorite character of the series, (although the hellhounds rank a smidge above her). I loved her sunshine outlook and hopefulness for change, her tenacity, and her total faith in tapping in to the goodness of people. The Cursed King was a wonderful finale to a fantastic series!

I am sure sparks will fly in the conclusion to the Inferno Rising series and it sure has been one wild ride with the characters as they find their destiny.
High King Pytheios wants Angelika.
Angelika Amon’s three phoenix sisters are happily mated with their dragon counterparts. She wonders if she will ever find her mate? It seems she has spent her whole life waiting for this or that and she was done with it. She wants something. In this case, it s Airk and she was going after him. Their innocence in the sex department is sweet, sexy, and HOT, as they discover each other.
Abigail Owen has a way with words and this was only one of Angelika’s comments that cracked me up:
“Oh, Gods, do not think about fucking the hot, lonely, dangerous dragon shifter.”
I have spent some time with the dragon clans in their world and loved every minute of it. Not only do we have dragons, but we have many other wonderful supernatural characters that are well represented: phoenix, werewolves, gargoyles, hellhounds, witches, trolls…and when one is taken I mourn them.
I am so happy that I was there at the beginning for the Inferno series by Abigail Owen. She did a wonderful job of wrapping up the series in a spectacular fashion. Do I want a happy ever after? You bet! Did I get it? Yes, but it came at a cost. Even you may shed a tear or two or three.

I have spent some time with the dragon clans in their world and loved every minute of it. Not only do we have dragons, but we have many other wonderful supernatural characters that are well represented: phoenix, werewolves, gargoyles, hellhounds, witches, trolls…and when one is taken I mourn them.
I am so happy that I was there at the beginning for the Inferno series by Abigail Owen. She did a wonderful job of wrapping up the series in a spectacular fashion. Do I want a happy ever after? You bet! Did I get it? Yes, but it came at a cost. Even you may shed a tear or two or three.

The last of the Inferno Rising series and it's a hot read in lots of ways! This book features Angelika the last unmated phoenix and Airk a white dragon shifter that cant shift. I have to admit I called Airk Eric in my head!
The fight is reaching a head and everyone is in danger and all the mated phoenix and dragons are coming together to fight the baddie. Angelika decides she and Airk should Mate to help the battle.
Airk is very standoffish to begin with. Angelika isn't giving in she can see how good they could be together. The battle we know is coming and we can almost guarantee Angelika will get her wish with Airk BUT oh my we have to wait a while - Airks defenses need some breaking down.
Along with the fighting and some unexpected occurrences we get to hear from the previous main characthers.
The epilogue was wonderful and completed the series perfectly.

This book brings the series to a good ending, we have the big confrontation close to the end of the book, but man...it was tough getting there. Angelika and Airk had a rough road. While Angelika was smitten with Arik, he had big time reservations that stopped a mating between them, hurting Angelika along the way. Airk did kinda have a good reason, but they needed to talk about things, instead of his stomping away.
When push came to shove at the end, everyone had to give it their all to survive, to beat the false king. What they built in the aftermath was so much better for everyone, letting everyone live happy lives with their loves.

Very enjoyable finale to this paranormal dragon shifter series! Lots of plot twists and familiar characters from earlier in the series - I was wondering when we would see more of Airk after knowing that Pytheios had imprisoned him for centuries. And of course waiting for Angelika, the last of the 4 Pheonix sisters, to get her HEA. I think it's best to read this series from start to finish to fully appreciate all the worldbuilding and intertwined characters and storylines. I've enjoyed all of this author's shifter tales and look forward to reading what's next!

A strong 3.5 stars
This was a good conclusion to the series. Not an explosive one, but a good, solid, action-packed read. I really admire author's ability to weave all different threads of plot together.
Again, the world-building and mythology were captivating. And I did enjoy, to an extent, how all the slowly discovered details about history of phoenixes and dragons came together and also played into Angelika and Airk's relationship. Into their strengths and their perceived weaknesses. Like, it all made sense and showed that they were stronger together.
However (why do there always have to be "however", huh?), I thought it was a shame that for Angelika to fully emerge as a phoenix, her sisters had to give up their own parts of phoenix power. Personally, I rather enjoyed that their powers were split and they had to learn to co-operate and act together for joint gain. Sure, their sacrifice to save Angelika's life was very moving, but I guess I'm asking why the sacrifice?
Also, while overall I enjoyed Angelika and Airk's relationship (except maybe their beginnings when Airk would jerk her back-and-forth with his "I'm not good enough" routine 🙃), gods did I want to SMACK HIM at the end when Angelika went totally unhinged and raving mad with her new phoenix powers??? She was really going at it, calling out every injustice done to her, her family and female dragons, just getting down to frying some of those dragon assholes down, and what was Airk's reaction? Instead of being awed by her magnificent rage, he was all "ooh no, that's not Angelika at all, she's not herself, she's such a gentle, understanding and pure soul, not vengeful at all".

Due to that disappointing attitude, I'm not giving this 4 stars, but all in all, I enjoyed that series a lot. Interesting world, plot with a few different players and some intrigue and politics, steamy romance at the forefront. Can for sure recommend!

Abigail Owen concludes her Inferno Rising series with The Cursed King, with the continuing battle to save the dragon kingdom and the will they-won’t they mating between Angelika Amon, the last unmated phoenix, and Airk Azdajah, the rightful King of the White dragon shifters. Owen levels up the angst, steam, and suspense. Her character development, description, worldbuilding, and mythology are excellent, quickly drawing you in from the first page, making you care about her characters and story. The action, fights, and battle scenes are thrilling, and the plot is suspenseful and keeps you guessing up till the end with unexpected twists and surprises. Airk and Angelika are a perfect pairing with sizzling chemistry and a connection that is as intensely emotional as sexual. All Angelika’s sisters and their mates are back.

Yet, he is a powerful, fierce, loyal, encouraging, and skilled warrior who needs someone who pushes him to want more from life and to reconnect with his dragon and clan. Feared by all but Angelika, Airk isolates himself to protect others from his feral dragon – especially Angelika. I loved how Owen portrays and develops their connection and relationship throughout the novel. Scenes like their first meeting and when they spend time talking and getting to know each other better are sweet, sexy, and funny. Their love scenes are steamy, emotional, and intense, furthering the story and Angelika’s and Airk’s character development. There are so many more love scenes than action/fighting, but some readers may like that. It’s also frustrating how Airk blows hot and cold, hurting Angelika with his repeated rejections.
Overall, The Cursed King is a steamy, thrilling, sexy, intense, emotional, angsty paranormal romance fans of this series and paranormal/fantasy romances should enjoy.

She had a spunky attitude that I enjoyed. Airk is the quintessential tortured hero. He knows that he is a danger to those around him, but especially to Angelika, who affects his dragon like no other. Airk's character was angsty and frustrating at times, with his wishy-washy feelings towards Angelika. However, their attraction is palpable in each scene and there was no denying (despite Airk's best efforts) that they belonged together.
I was dubious about the twists and turns towards the end of the tale, but the author made it work and the series was wrapped up nicely. The ending was unexpected, yet satisfying. The Cursed King was an emotional roller coaster for both characters and reader alike. The story was balanced well between fun and sexy, action and intrigued, and some incredibly moving and poignant scenes. The plotting was solid and the characters appealing. Pytheios was a cunning villain that also had a surprising amount of depth towards the end. After all, all villain's are hero's in their own eyes, aren't they?
The series in it's entirety has been a delight to read. While I am a paranormal romance fan, I don't usually enjoy dragon shifter stories. Inferno Rising was an exception, a solid four-star read throughout. Despite each book focusing on a single couple, there is a continuing story-arc that shouldn't be missed so I do recommend reading the series in order. With that said, I am interested to see if the wolves, witches, and gargoyles get a spin-off series down the road. Fingers crossed!

The entire book was a cop out. Airk is supposed to be this half feral dragon shifter in the beginning, yet somehow ends up as an emotional cripple who not only can't make up his damned mind about Angelika, his actions get her "killed". I hated whiny Angelika. I hated how she emotionally damaged Jedd. I especially hated the ending and I'm pissed I paid my hard earned money to read this drivel. 1.5 stars

I absolutely loved this series. It is a perfect mixture of everything you need in a book. I even loved the villains. I will definitely be checking out the other books by this author.
