Wrapped Up In Tinsel

Rate this book
Steve Reynolds prefers to avoid people, and working as a tech guy at one of the big box electronic stores has guaranteed that. He does the repairs and lets the person at the counter deal with the rest, it’s perfect. Until this year, when the store is downsizing and he’s laid off just before Thanksgiving.

Garrett Juhl loves Christmas more than anyone has loved Christmas before him. Or at least he likes to tell himself that, and while he’s making deliveries for his job, he also pretends he’s Santa. But he’d rather not admit that to anyone.

Desperate for a job Steve takes the first one he’s offered even if he’s not sure he’ll survive it. Being one of Santa’s elves at the local mall has never been something he’d consider, but he’s desperate. When Garrett goes to the mall to see this year's decorations he immediately notices the grouchy elf who even with a frown looks cute in his elf uniform. Maybe this year he could be the one who turns that frown upside down.

My thought about the book when I stopped reading to give myself a break was, ‘What is this?’
It was just unusual and odd, the plotline about grouchy MC meets sunshine MC at the Santa village in a declining mall. That’s a familiar trope, but it wasn’t written very well.
The scene that had me stopping was the MCs have met and decided to get a coffee. Grouchy MC says something too grouchy and sunshine guy runs off. He doesn’t get too far before he is grabbed and kissed by the grouch.
They just met. It didn’t feel right. I have been reading MM too long to not know that the story wasn’t going to get better and that I would not like the characters. DNF 22%

A heartwarming holiday MM romance that feels like a cozy mug of hot cocoa on a snowy evening! Garrett and Steve’s opposites-attract love story sparkles with the magic of the season, wrapped up in the grumpy-sunshine trope we all adore.

When Steve—who’s had a year as unlucky as a tangled string of Christmas lights—is forced into a job as a mall elf, he’s dreading every candy-cane-filled second of it. Enter Garrett, Santa, whose thoughtful gestures and warm smile are as comforting as freshly baked sugar cookies straight out of the oven. Together, they light up the season with their sweet and swoon-worthy connection as Steve starts to unfreeze Garrett's heart.

Great story

Can a grinch fall in love with Christmas? I really enjoyed this story. These two were so completely opposite and yet they were so perfect for each other. This was a very sweet and heartwarming story.

Steve, a cynical tech repairman is forced into a new job as a mall elf after being laid off. Garrett, a cheerful delivery driver with a deep love for Christmas, thrives on the magic of the season and the traditions that come with it. When their paths cross at a bustling mall, the connection is instant, if not a bit rocky. As Steve adjusts to the chaos of Santa lines and jingling costumes, Garrett’s kindness and charm begin to break through his walls, as things heat up between the two. Between surprise Christmas cakes, shared meals, and family gatherings, the two men discover that opposites truly attract. Garrett helps Steve confront his complicated relationship with the holidays, while Steve shows Garrett that even the grouchiest elf can have a heart of gold. Hot and steamy, grumpy sunshine, MM holiday romance, exploring finding love, rediscovering joy, and embracing the magic of the season—even when it’s the last thing you expect.

Mr Grumpy meets Mr Sunshine in this Christmas love story. Steve isn't into people and has just been laid off. Stopping at the mall he frequented as a child he takes a job as one of Santa's elves. Garrett is picking up a gift for his grandfather when he spots one very grumpy elf. This story is largely about finding joy. Garrett sees something in Steve and is determined to help him find joy again.

B.L. Maxwell's Wrapped Up in Tinsel is a sweet holiday opposites attract romance.

I enjoyed how Steve goes from grump to a happy, loving guy. His gradual thawing is nicely done.

The audio version of Wrapped Up in Tinsel is nicely performed by Guy Veryzer.

“Your love is the Christmas magic I was missing.” ~ unknown

Due to an unfortunate Christmas years ago, Steve Reynolds, of 'Wrapped up in Tinsel' by BL Maxwell, never let the bad memories go and has dreaded Christmas ever since. When Steve's employer lays him off, he needs another job immediately. Steve wanders into Sunrise Mall, which he visited when he was young; it is sad to see how much it has gone downhill since then. The one constant, though, is Santa Claus and his elves. Steve reminisces for a moment, then, to his dismay, realizes that being an elf may be the only job he can get at such short notice! Swallowing his pride, Steve applies for the job and becomes Tinsel, one of Santa's elves. Steve could not have imagined how much taking this job would change his life.

Garrett Juhl loves Christmas. It's his favorite time of year. As a UPS delivery man, he can help spread even more good Christmas cheer. Since it is on his route, Garrett decides to go to Sunrise Mall to get his grandfather a journal for Christmas. While in the shop, he notices a grumpy-looking, handsome young man dressed as an elf. Garret loves communicating with an elf, especially since he enjoys anything related to Christmas. Mr. Elf has blue eyes; the color of ice mesmerizes Garrett. He stares too long, and the guy asks if he is okay. Garrett snaps to it, pays for the journal, and rushes out. Afterward, Garrett watches Steve from afar but believes he is out of Steve's league and wonders what it would take to "thaw him out."

'Wrapped up in Tinsel' is an opposites-attract, funny, passionate love story, reminding me that the main component of the Christmas spirit is love. Thanks, BL, for the sweet holiday story.

Opposites attract, and change for the good sometimes

This is the charming story of two men who fall in love with each other, all inspired by Steve the anti-social, Christmas Grump, who begins to see the holiday season in a brighter light. Estranged from his parents and recently let go from a job that didn’t require him to interact with the public, Steve finds himself working as a Christmas Elf in a cozy, slightly run-down mall. Reminiscing about Christmases past helps him overcome his grumpy feelings around joyful holiday crowds.

Contrasting sharply with Steve’s grumpiness is Garrett Juhl, a cheerful UPS driver who eagerly embraces the festive season despite the busy delivery schedule. He celebrates Christmas wholeheartedly and shares a heartfelt message with Steve when his irritability surfaces. Garrett’s charm is undeniable—Steve can see it, feel it, and their connection grows stronger, sparking a desire to spend as much time together as possible, even behind closed doors.

Steve finds comfort in Garrett’s company, and even the grumpiest elf can do something unexpectedly sweet, like leaving Little Debbie cakes on Garrett's truck windshield after finding his parked delivery vehicle.

During the Santa photo line, Steve begins to relax and genuinely enjoys organizing the holiday bustle, even getting into the festive spirit himself. He starts to appreciate Garrett and his lovely family, too.

This heartwarming, spicy MM romance is perfect for anyone looking to chase away retail holiday stress and reimagine Christmas as a time for family, friends, and love—even from an unlikely UPS Santa.

Loved this book no end …well it’s obviously got an ending ,it’s just an expression…Anyway let’s start at the beginning . Steve Reynolds ,go to tech guy has been given the big heave Ho before thanksgiving because the store where he works is downsizing. Is it surprising that he feels no hohoho when it comes to Christmas? Yet he only goes and gets himself a job as an elf! No it’s no laughing matter ,he’s such a grouch but he’s desperate. There’s the guy that likes to think Santa and he’s a bit of Ho , Ho, Ooh . Well he’s noticed you Steve ,so don’t slouch , he thinks you’re a grouch but he’s liking what he sees , he’s thinking that he will be the one that turns that frown upside down , would that please? Well Garret’s a treasure a real pearl ,while playing Santa and keeping Steve the Elf in check ,they hang out share a few checks when out on meals and sure enough before too long they both have the feels , the real hearts and flowers and meeting the folks . Cupid and his Bow ,ya know ? I think these guys are compatible now after a few pow wows and a bit of male bonding don’t you? Steve goes all out to show his beau that his strings aren’t all grouchy on his bow and he can have a giggle as much as the next man and serious too Garrett about you . Aw so sweet ,it really is heartwarming too . Awesome wring ,the storytelling is superb and the characters are so endearing and sweet, but that angst too! Phew. It all came good like we knew it would . Woohoo. These two 💝

This was a sweet story about two men who appeared to be complete opposites but were more similar than they realised. It was easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

"Please let me never be so desperate that I have to work as a f-ing elf at the mall." (p 11). Steve just lost his job as tech repair at a small store. He has savings, but wants the cushion of another job. Preferably with few people. Of course the only work he can find is at the mall. As an elf.
Garrett is a ray of sunshine, with a sweet outlook and a love of all things Christmas. During his annual Christmas visit to the mall, he spots a cute but grouchy Santa's elf.
It didn't take much for Garrett to get the Scrooge-like Steve to reclaim his Christmas joy. And Steve even liked his dog. I found the texting a little confusing because there were no spaces between the responses. Or who was the texter.
Their chemistry was sweet and they sizzled in the bedroom. And are so sweet outside it. Steve gets the idea to leave Garrett a little Christmas tree cake under the windshield wiper of his work truck. The relationship went from introduction to "I wanna have him move in" very quickly.
This was a sweet, quick read full of holiday, Christmas and Thanksgiving, cheer.

Grumpy Grinch to Sunshiny Santa

A light, low-angst Christmas romance featuring the grumpy/sunshine trope with two blue collar workers. Garrett is a delivery driver with a large loving family. His favorite time of the year is Christmas, loves everything about it. Steve is an antisocial grump who dislikes being around too many people, and he especially despises Christmas. When Steve loses his job right before Thanksgiving, he stops at a shopping mall where the only job he manages to get is that of Tinsel, one of Santa’s elves. It’s here that Steve meets Garrett, when Steve is picking up a gift for his grandfather.

Steve and Garrett seem like total opposites, until Garrett gets Steve to open up about why he hates the holidays so much. They gradually bond over shared meals – and a shared enjoyment of Garrett’s little dog. My favorite part is Steve and his mystery employment of Little Debbie snack cakes. Just the light read one wants for this time of year!.

Wrapped Up in Tinsel by BL Maxwell is the classic opposites-attract story. Steve is seemingly the grump to Garret’s sunshine. Since this is a holiday romance the book details the two men getting closer through the little time they have off from their very busy holiday jobs. It was fascinating to learn the reason for Steve’s dislike of Christmas. Of course he slowly comes out of his unpleasant armor and learns to like the holiday (not really a spoiler since this is the whole premise of the story). Sometimes people who meet during a heightened time period like the Christmas holidays find their journey accelerated, so that fits this book. It was different for me since I mostly read fantasy and don’t read a lot of books about people in everyday jobs such as delivery people, even though I got to know my UPS driver during the pandemic. This was a thoroughly charming story, guaranteed to make you smile. I received a free copy of the book via Booksprout, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Enjoying Tinsel . . .

Steve Reynolds has worked at the electronics store since he graduated college, preferring to avoid face-to-face interaction with people. Being the “tech guy” gives him the privacy he wants while the counter guys deal with the people part of business. However, this year the store downsizes and Steve is laid off. Desperate for a job, he grabs the first available to him -- the mall Santa’s elf helper, Tinsel.

Garrett Juhl enjoys everything about Christmas and while performing his job as delivery person, imagines he is Santa bringing joy and happiness to the children. This year, he stops at the mall to check out the decorations, and he spots a grouchy elf. This just might be a Christmas challenge Garrett can’t resist as he tries to put a smile on the elf’s face and give him a better outlook to enjoy the Season. The two are definitely opposite personalities, but seem to be just what each other needs to enjoy the holidays in a positive way!

This is a charming and sweet holiday read. It is the story of Garrett Juhl and Steve Reynolds. This is a classic grumpy/sunshine story. Garrett is a ray of sunshine who loves Christmas. Steve on the other hand is not a fan of people, children or Christmas. When he unexpectedly loses his job just before Christmas, he gets a new job at the Mall. As a Christmas Elf, guiding and controlling children! Garrett and Steve meet by accident at the Mall. An immediate friendship is formed. This is their story. I liked how the two of them were perfect for each other. They filled in the pieces they didn't even know were missing. Between Garrett's sunshine and the joy of the children, Steve slowly lost some of his rough edges. They were perfect for each other. The book is written well and is easy to read. A great Christmas escape.

4.5 stars. This was a sweet cute story about Garrett who loves Christmas and Steve who does everything he can do avoid Christmas. Garrett adores the holidays and heads to the mall one day where he meets Steve who, having just been fired from his previous job, has taken the job of being an elf for Santa at that same mall. It’s a sweet story as Garrett helps Steve work through his issues with the holiday and gets to see the difference in Steve’s life but also in his own. These two are very cute together and I loved how they entwined their lives together. Steve is really just a big sweetheart under all that gruff.
I will admit it took me a bit to actually start feeling the connection and chemistry between them, but eventually I did and I love them. Sweet, cute holiday story with a HEA.
I did receive an ARC from Booksprout and this is my honest opinion.

Holiday Cheer Meter: 2/5
(Where 1 is as Christmassy as 'Die Hard' and 5 is more like 'Elf')

Steve Reynolds, Sunrise Mall elf, "Tinsel"
Garrett Juhl, UPS delivery driver

Honestly I was expecting waaaaaay more holiday vibes from a book billing one of its MCs as someone who "loves Christmas more than anyone has loved Christmas before him" and the other as a seasonal mall elf.

All the stars are for the Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes plot point, which was adorable, and for Steve discovering that he's a pretty good mall elf. Everything else felt forced, awkward, and lacking in personality (half the time I could barely tell whose PoV we were in) and holiday spirit.

If it had been any longer I would have DNF'd it early on, but the back end of the book was cute.

Very sweet, heartwarming, light, low angst, easy to read, Christmas story.
Steve, a grinch, grumpy, but sweet man is laid off a few weeks before Christmas, and gets a job as a Santa Elf in a dying mall. Garret is a sunshine, working as a UPS delivery man, who crosses path with Steve at the mall, and they click. After a first almost date that almost goes bad as Steve makes sarcastically fun of Garret's love for Christmas but Steve apologises and Garett gives him a second hag, they spend more time knowing each other and discover they have more in common than what they initially thought.

I got an ARC and this is my honest review

What a fun, entertaining story for the holiday season. I loved grumpy elf Tinsel and the way Garrett changed the grinch into a Santa helping, children and crowd tolerating, Christmas enjoying, dog loving boyfriend. Helping Steve figure out why he hated Christmas so much benefited him, his family, and especially the children who came to see Santa, along with a loving boyfriend to top off his Christmas gift. This is a Hallmark movie but in words, not film, as it plays out in your head. A light-hearted, joyful, positive read to prepare for the chaos and beauty of the holidays.

I literally did not get the pun of the title until I sat down to do the review. Steve Reynolds. Wrapped up in Tinsel. Ha!

Anyways...this was an adorable meet-cute xmas story with grumpy/sunshine vibes. Steve (Tinsel the Elf) takes a temp job as an elf for Santa when he gets laid off right before Christmas. Garrett loves the holidays and everything to do with the gift-giving season. While Garrett is spending all of his spare time at the mall, he notices Santa's grumpiest elf, Tinsel. These two are just the cutest together. I couldn't possibly have enjoyed the book more.

This story is pure holiday magic with a side of grumpy-meets-sunshine charm. Steve, the reluctant mall elf, and Garrett, the ultimate Christmas enthusiast, are a delightful contrast that had me smiling throughout. BL Maxwell captures the spirit of the season with humor, warmth, and just the right amount of sparkle. Watching Garrett chip away at Steve's grouchy exterior felt like unwrapping a present—sweet, surprising, and so satisfying. A lighthearted, festive read perfect for getting into the holiday mood!.

This was a touching story, not one I would normally read, I was surprised that the characters were gay. Steve was a man angry with the world and a chance meeting with Garrett would change his life for the good.
Steve became Tinsel the elf helping with Santa’s kingdom at the mall before Christmas. Garrett was a UPS driver. The relationship the two struck up helped to heal the hole in Steve’s heart and helped him to enjoy the season and more.

Haha what a brilliant read I loved every moment of this story, it's got some laugh out loud moments, real heartwarming feels and a Christmas elf.

Meeting someone while they're dressed as an elf but feeling an instant connection sounds like the best adventure for someone who loved Christmas the way Garrett does.
Wonderful characters, this is a story about finding someone who understands you but also helps you to understand yourself.

Having just done a binge catch up on BL's books this was my final one! And what a great journey 😀 This was yet another well written, fun and heartwarming Christmas romance. Fantastic characters Garrett and Steve who were true opposites! I always enjoy a grumpy sunshine relationship and this was good, brilliant interaction between them. Steve was such a grumpy elf and Santa aka Garrett is determined to put a smile on his face! Great Christmas read!.

Sweet, opens our minds. Steve, is not a people person. Working in tech, is the perfect job for him until he's laid off. Garrett, believes he is Christmas' number 1 fan. He likes to pretend he's Santa when he makes job deliveries. Steve, desperate for a job takes an assignment as a Santa's elf. Absolutely funny irony, he grumps out while trying to keep his job. Garrett, sees Steve and thinks he can ungrump the elf. Nice story of growth, reflection, acceptance, friendship and romance. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

WHAT A GREAT CHRISTMAS STORY

Awww, this is just sweet and the perfect Book for all the Holiday feels. These two are polar opposites but end up perfect for each other. Garrett is a guy who never lost his love for the Magic Christmas brings. Steve has just become a dreaded Christmas Elf at the mostly closed down mall. These two just made me feel the magic that happens this time of year. Thank You BL MAXWELL for writing the book that I will reread next year. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!

A highly entertaining story of two people who were very ready to find their forever. Steve has kept away from Christmas celebrations due to an event when he was ten, he was laid off from his job before Thanksgiving and found one at a mall as an elf. Garrett is a UPS driver and was at the mall to pick up a gift and found Steve dressed as an elf. Their HEA is a must read.

Talk about two guys who are at the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to Christmas spirit! Garrett loves the holidays and even wants to add to the merriness of the season and Steve is grumpy and only playing elf because he needs the money. Having to be an elf put him on Garrett's radar. Sometime, something not so good can lead you to something great. Loved this story!.
