Four Points Mafia #2

It Shouldn't Be You

Rate this book
Logan

Killing my father was meant to put a stop to the horrors he caused but it was only the beginning.
Now I need to do something I swore I'd never do.
Entering an unwanted arranged marriage should have been simple. But from the moment my feisty bride entered the equation it's been anything but.
She's nothing like I expected and everything I never knew I needed.
Now I have a wife to protect, answers to find and no idea who I can trust.

Abigail

I always knew this would be my fate.
Marrying someone I don't love, sight unseen, was always in the cards for me. Being a mafia princess comes with many luxuries but marrying for love is not one of them.
What I didn't expect was to be handed over to our once enemy, turned ally.
As tensions and tempers rise to new heights, so do the feelings he provokes in me. Everything feels too volatile to last.It Shouldn't Be You is the second book in the Four Points Mafia series. Each book is a standalone with its own HEA, but you’ll enjoy a richer experience reading them in order.

This spicy mafia romance includes an arranged marriage, forced proximity, and a grumpy/sunshine dynamic. It contains scenes of violence and explicit sexual content.

The start was very promising but then small irritating details started piling up to the point when I couldn't enjoy it anymore....ugh...I'm frustrated.

You know there is just sweet and there's nauseous sweet. Unfortunately, this book falls into the latter category. It's arranged marriage - give me some coldness in the beginning but noo, from the start they're attracted and he's ready to give her everything...WHY?

There also was one chapter where he took her out for a surprise and he wanted to tell her smth. But they didn't tell me what the surprise was nor what he wanted to tell her🤷‍♀️ What was the point of it?

In the first half it was more their separate stories. Which is fine if you give me them building their relationship later. But it didn't happen. They didn't even discussed her health issue together. I saw his thoughts about it and hers. Talk more WITH EACH OTHER.

So, I cannot say this one is worse or better than the first one. But after the first book my frustration intensified and I like this one less because of it.

Oh, I almost forgot. That's how his d*ck is described "His hand didn’t even cover the whole girth.". That's a new level of craziness in that department. Mind you, she mentioned that his hands are 'huge'. So if even HIS hand doesn't cover it I don't want to imagine it.

I'm free!!! Worst experience of my life!!!

I wanted to like this, but it lacked the angst and tension I expect from an arranged marriage. Everything happened way too fast, just like in the first book. It frustrated me that nothing was really explained, just one event after another with no real development.

I hated their first time together. That is not how you do it with a virgin, especially when his dick is supposedly so huge it doesn't even fit in his own hand. I know it's fiction, but damn.

I kept reading because I was hoping they'd find Logan's mom and Alex's sister. Not only did that not happen, but they also didn't stop the human trafficking ring (the plot!!!)

Don't even get me started on the death of the only side character I liked. His funeral lasted a blink of an eye, and we couldn't even grieve him properly because something else happened during it.

As for Abigail's diagnosis, it was mentioned, but they never talked about it, so I didn't get the point. And saying is "every woman's fear" felt like an exaggeration, but that's just my opinion.

I'm a little curious about Matt and Lily's story, pretty sure they're getting their own book. But I'm not reading any further, so I'll just imagine it in my head.

The two stars are for Rocky🐶 and Teddy🐱

In most cases, these arranged marriages among the mafia families are not met with grace and openness but Abigail and Logan completely changed the narrative on them. Both understanding how the inner workings of these arrangements work and not meeting them with any hesitation. I loved watching Abigail and Logan truly fall in love with each other. Logan wanting to completely change up the inner workings of his business choosing to date Abigail, actually get to know her and not just “take what’s his” as most mafia men think. Abigail was truly one of my favorite FMCs that I’ve read about in a long time. She holds herself high, a true girl’s girl and is such a light as Logan calls her in a world of hate and darkness. I’m sad to see the story end and with such a cliffhanger too! Can’t wait to see what happens next in the series.

Made it 63% and calling that read because I can’t read anymore. It feels like a fanfiction or wattpad story with some more adult scenes. There were a couple cute moments but everything was just so forced and weird and stilted and yeah not my favorite.

I had the pleasure of receiving an advance review copy of this book, and I must say, the author has surpassed expectations with "It Shouldn't Be You." I was completely captivated by the story, which evoked a strong resemblance to "Sons of Anarchy," one of my favorite television series.

I found the character Abigail to be incredibly endearing. Her strength, sweetness, witty banter, and overall demeanor made her a truly compelling and admirable female protagonist.

Logan, too, was a captivating character. His charm, strength, and commanding presence were quite captivating. His personality was a delightful blend of tenderness and dominance.

This exceptional story serves as a wonderful sequel to "It Was Always You," and I honestly can not fault any aspect of it. The author's writing style is both immersive and emotionally resonant. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mafia romance.

I am absolutely obsessed with this book. Shannon did any amazing job in building the plot and relationship of Logan and Abigail. I was hooked from the start, and arranged marriage is one of my favorite tropes. The plot do this book was great and kept you in it from the beginning. The fact that there was no third act break up was just the cherry on top.

Shannon Jade, you absolutely did an amazing job with Logan & and Abigail. I was glued to beginning to the end .the fiery that is abbie .the friendship between Cora, Lily, and abbie was so beautiful

Cole, I love him, and yes, I cried. I won't say why .if you read it, you will understand

Alex Knight, that flirty yet amazing best friend to Logan he been through just as much as Logan has, which broke my heart so much

Angus is disgusting evil, man

Yes, I definitely cried at the almost end of it and cried at the beautiful and joyful moments.

The spicy scenes were perfection

Escaping reality into books like this is just exactly what I needed

I need to know what happens next

I liked Owen .... but I LOVEEEEEEE me some Logan! This man.... THIS MANNNNN ugh. He is so good to Amelia and loves her the way she needs and wants even when she doesn't truly realize that is what he is doing. He takes such great care to support her and ensure that their relationship is solid no matter what. He will leave no rock unturned, no corner unsearched. He is here for her, for LIFE. I love that he took on his role in the Scottish mafia and is making the changes that need to be done to make sure she is protected. I appreciate the authors outlook on the skin trade and trafficking world. Instead of the mafia being involved, they are heavily against it and trying to end their involvement. I really hope they find out what happened to Logans mom in the next book. Also Alex's sister. They need the closure.

I love that Alex is Logan's ride or die till the end. He doesn't even ask questions, he is along for the ride and has the bail money ready to go!

The fact that Amelia walked into her mafia queen role with Logan completely blind and chose to make the best of it out the gate .... 👏🏻 sheer power move! She shows Logan so much compassion and love regardless of knowing next to nothing about him. The birthday party ♥️ phenomenal. She is such a beautiful human in such a dark world and it's so nice to see the dynamic of that being worshipped. Her infertility diagnosis broke my heart for them. I really hope to see them overcome that in the storyline as the series moves forward.

Sweet Cole 💔 Peter was such a bastard for that bs and I'm glad he got dealt with!

Coming together by MeemsAngel82

This was a sweet and very family and friend involved mafia love story. The writing was great and this is a whole story with a lot of drama going on. There are several characters that are couples and couples in the making. The characters are all likeable and there are ups and downs and some definite twists and turns. There are some happy and sweet moments and characters that have a strong bond. Expect some shocking moments as well.

They married to unite their families and she had wanted to know just who she was getting in the bargain.

They had some great chemistry and I loved their playful and flirty nature. The pace of them truly getting that wedding night took longer than I expected. This was a patient man and there was a lot going on for them to truly just focus on their own getting to know you phase. But he didn't just take, he got to know her during all of the stress. That was unique! They actually got to know one another and it was sweet. They didn't have the harder edges that you'd expect. The gifts he gave her were so thoughtful and sweet! I do wish there wasn't SO much family drama, my heart broke for the loss of one character. And also the relationship that I do hope is coming from another couple. I was actually hoping that couple's book was next! An different take on mafia life! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I read this book in one day, only 5 hours, it kept me that interested!! However, while the initial 50% ’s flow of the plot line was easy to understand and made sense, the later 50% had quite a few loopholes. This book could’ve easily been a longer one or maybe a duology because currently I feel it was rushed.

Before reading the rest of the review, I’ll say that I would still recommend this book as it was honestly attention grabbing and that’s why I read it in 5-hours non stop😌

✨First, the good parts :
• The tropes
• The actual storyline of the human trafficking ring which is being continued to the next books too, is very very VERY interesting and had me wanting to know more and more!!
• Wonderful to see how the characters, all of them, main and supporting, all are so close and accepting.
• The friendship Abigail has with her girl-friends and the rest of the Four Points Mafia men, and the friendship and bond Logan has with Alex.
• How Logan would actually listen and remember what Abigail would say and how he was so in love with her from the extreme start.
• Abigail’s sassy personality
• The text messages and group chats

✨Now, things that bothered me/made me stop and think whether I skipped a few pages in between:

• The relationship between Abigail and Logan was just building and they agreed to take things a bit slow and date and not get physical apart from kissing but then they’re having sex? There was no dating, no talking, no getting to know each other apart from a few conversations. Okay, even if I assume they talked and stuff, I don’t know, their relationship just doesn’t have the spark. (I’m in the minority here but i seriously didn’t see any spark). Logan is amazing and Abigail is amazing too, but the sparks flying? Not visible sorry.

• Self defence was necessary to learn at Four Points Maria but still when the attack happened, Abigail had no good reaction. There was no moment where she was a badass or knew how to hold her ground… maybe in future books but right now all she knows perfectly is hosting and organizing events which is truly amazing too but her personality is badass and ugshshsh how to explain, it just didn’t match ok?

• One page they’re brushing their teeth together and next page he’s removing her Halloween dress. Does this mean after the party, they decided to brush first with their party clothes? Do people do that?

• Loopholes, too many questions left unanswered and quite a few things left not spoken about. I understand the author wanted to keep the readers invested and so left Helen’s story untold, which let me tell you, I read the first few pages of her story and omg, I AM INVESTED !!! but what about Abigail’s doctor appointment?

• the book title, where’s the reference or connection to the story? Did I miss or not understand it?

At the end, I’m no author and just a reader and these are my thoughts. Again, I would still recommend this book as it was honestly attention grabbing and that’s why I read it in 5-hours non stop :)

To start this off, I really liked the characters and the bonds in this book. Especially the relationship between Abigail ( the MFC) and her best friends Lily and Cora. Their so close and have a bond that I know most people would be jealous of.
I also loved Abigail and Logan's (the MMC) connection but felt a bit rushed. There's a lot of time in the book when they don't interact with each other, pointed out by Abigail herself, and when they do it just feels fast. Their definitely perfect for each other and the actions between the two melted me, but just wanted a bit more.

Also, I know it's probably just me but a lot of things were happening way too fast to even comprehend or enjoy the first situation. I'm going to try to give an example without giving too much away.
So, in the book, something really sad happens but before anyone can deal or work through their feelings someone shows up that shocks everyone. It's like to me it takes the spot light before the light even touches the first situation.
I don't know if that makes sense, but a lot was happening and I couldn't really enjoy one thing.

Anyway, not trying to harp on negative things and not trying to persuade anyone not to give this a try. Just wasn't for me, but I do thank the author for the opportunity to read this.

I could tell from the beginning of this read that it was going to be a wild and fun ride!

Logan and Abigail get thrown into an arranged marriage and you can see how they both handle their responsibility of becoming partners. Logan’s touch her and ☠️ vibes for his new wife has me kicking my feet! Overall a super entertaining dark romance read and I think the author did a wonderful job telling this story!

Thank you to the author and Bloom & Beyond for the gifted ARC.

This book was honestly so good!!!

I actually loved the characters so much because they were so developed and I enjoyed how you could see how all of the relationships developed. I loved how close Abbie was with Cora and Lily and their relationship was honestly so cute and strong . Abbie was a woman who was forced to have an arranged marriage because of a need to unite two families and at the beginning I wasn’t sure how I felt about her but as I kept reading her character developed so much and she became so obsessed with Logan. Logan was a man who created this arranged marriage to create unity and the way that he instantly fell for Abbie was insane and you could really see how much he respected her and protected her. Also the way that the relationship between Logan and Abbie developed so quickly was beautiful because you could see how fast they developed feelings and how strong they were . They cared so much for one another and they would truly do anything for one another. I loved how everyone embraced each other and it made this book so great!! Also the spice was incredible 🥵

I devoured this in one day and will definitely be reading more from this author 🥰

✨ARC Review✨

I loved Abigail and Logan’s story. Even though it was an arranged marriage they were both open to the situation and handled it with grace. Their story was a beautiful one filled with love and hope. Abigail is so incredibly loyal to her friends and family, quick witted, and fierce in her own way. Logan, ohh Logan.. He worshipped his new wife from the very start and gave her the space to grow and bloom while also still being a ruthless mafia boss outside of their relationship. There was one moment in the book that broke my heart. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you read it. Overall, I really enjoyed this author’s writing style. Everything flowed well and the characters were well written. I can’t wait to see how the rest of this story and unanswered questions continue in the next book.

I have read a few mafia romance books in my time, some darker than the norm, but I do enjoy the idea of a big boss being over protective and overbearing out of love for his mafia Queen. I’ve also read the ones where the FMC gets kidnapped and basically become a Stockholm example by falling in love with the mafia guy she was hating at first, but that’s neither here nor there. So of course I had to give this story a chance, I mean, its mafia romance!

But, I must admit, this read was something different. I mean, we still get some mafia vibes from this book, but it’s so wholesome and sweet, in its own way! Like, let’s start with Abigail. The girl is the daughter of a family head, and typical mafia princesses in these kinds of stories don't behave spoiled, but they aren’t afraid to rock the family wealth. Well, the one’s I have read. Yet Abigail is so down to earth and, in a sense humble, that you HAVE to remind yourself where she comes from. She wants to volunteer at an animal shelter!

And Logan, green flags my dude! He has the aura of a mafia boss, yet throughout the story, he is so respectful of Abigail! I mean, dude is so caring and listens to her, he got her a cat AND a dog because she mentioned how much she loves animals. Add the fact that he is trying to salvage his Clan from the mess his father made and he is trying to do it the legit way, well mafia legit. And it’s so sweet how he and Abigail communicate so much in their relationship, you would think their marriage really wasn’t an arranged one. Their support for each other, the respect and blossoming love. I mean, he even was willing to go celibate for life if Abigail didn’t want to be sexual in their marriage, instead of getting a mistress. They both wanted to respect their marriage vows and make their marriage real.

This was such a breath of fresh air to my typical mafia reads and I enjoyed it. Of course we get the obvious mafia moments of blood, but the way the story went, it was done in a way that worked along. And the spice, bruh, talk about delicious slow burn. Reading how these two wanted to pounce at each other, yet also wanted to take it slow so they can get to know each other before jumping deep into the sack. My ONLY tiny complaint was the moment of doubt Abigail had just because Logan was glued to his phone for a day. Like, chica, I get we all have our moments of doubts, but Logan has so far shown he only wants you. And has been clear already that he never plans on having a mistress.

Now, don’t get me wrong we do get some mafia mess here, but at least you can grow with the main characters before we get to the juicy stuff. And being that this is book 2, you know I am going to read book 1 to catch up just in case there is a book 3! I really enjoyed this storyline, especially being that these mafia families still have some standards to what they are willing to do.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5

Before I get into it, I didn’t realize I was reading book #2 of this series until I was already 30% in. They are interconnected standalone novels, and although you will definitely be intrigued enough to read book #1 (“It Was Always You”) for some solid background information, Shannon does an amazing job filling you in on important events from the first book without ultimately spoiling it if you do decide to read it. I’ll definitely be reading it as it will cover Cora’s series of unfortunate events leading to the epic ‘side character’ we come to adore in this one!

I’m a reader that usually dislikes the FMC unless it’s a fantasy or historical fiction. Romance…..ugh. Sometimes I really just can’t tolerate them.
Enter Abigail; hey sis!
She is the definition of a girl’s girl!! Abbie, Lily and Cora’s friendship dynamic is *chefs kiss*
Shannon adds short text convos in between chapters sporadically and they add so much to the story! It usually consists of extra sassy banter and I’m here for it.

Logan has definitely made my list of book boyfriends, that I have NO DOUBT. 🤤 Scottish, tatted, mafia boss? Where can I get my own?!
“You deserve to be treated like the princess you are. Anything less would be an insult”
SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNN 🥰

But, seeing as he’s taken and all, when Alex sang “Wakey, wakey! Time to confess your sins!” he robbed me of my heart. ♥️

My condolences to all the readers that did read “It Was Always You” and was honored to get to know some of these ‘side characters’ so well. The watch scene—“It’s yours now.” That’s all I will say. I was HYPERVENTILATING. 😭😭

Cliffhanger? No, I wouldn’t consider the ending a cliffhanger. You’ll definitely want to continue the series for answers to the mystery/thriller plot line, but it doesn’t leave you wheezing. Thankfully, the third book is coming this summer and Shannon thoughtfully provided the prologue for it at the end of this book, which I personally thought was VERY solid. I cannot wait to read more about my Four Points/Clan fam!

There are so many great mafia romances out there and a lot of them involve arranged marriages. It is just a part of the mafia lifestyle that women tend to be used to in order to gain power through their unions to mafia men. This book wasn’t different in that respect, but it did have a bit of a different take on the way the marriage was approached. I appreciated that the FMC felt respected by her family and by her new husband. I also thought it was a welcome difference that everyone involved knew exactly what their role was and their wasn’t a whole lot of bucking the system. The FMC and MMC didn’t have that dynamic where they were arguing constantly until they finally broke. It gave the FMC more power in the relationship, and I felt that she was stronger because of it. I enjoyed the pace of this book and found that it read very quickly. The chapters were fairly short, so I felt that the story moved at a pace that I was never bored reading.

Abigail was not the typical mafia princess. She knew her place in the the mafia structure. But her family also respected her feelings and her safety. She wasn’t simply a tool for consolidating power, even though her marriage was used for exactly that purpose. But she wasn’t disrespected by the men in her life and they even agreed to certain demands that she had in order to marry a man she hadn’t met. Logan was one of those mafia men that is a tough, feared mafia boss, but he also treated his new wife like the mafia queen that she was. Even though he had only known her for hours, he still was so possessive of her. He was the perfect mix of strength and heart. He was such a wonderful partner and the person that Abigail deserved.

Its always a pleasure to read a genre you enjoy with a different twist. Sometimes the stories tend to blend together because they are all so similar. So when you get a story like this, it is a real pleasure to read. It had some great spicy scenes, and Logan was definitely a plus in the bedroom scenes. I enjoyed this story much like I enjoyed book one of the series. I’m excited to see what the author has in store for this series.

This was a quick, pretty insta-lust/love story between Logan and Abigail. There is some cross over from other side characters but overall, it reads well on it's own.

I loved the romance, the dialogue and the side of murder/mystery and suspense but I didn't see that plot twist coming and 100% feel it came out of left field. I was shocked and heartbroken!!! I don't think I fully have processed my feelings about that and it kind of overshadowed everything else in the story.

Not to mention the set up for the next couple. The angst and emotional turmoil of all these extras left our main couple in the background. Logan and Abigail's relationship was so refreshing and I loved that they get to know each other first before exploring their mutual physical attraction. Did I want a little more page time with our MMCs romancing each other? Yes. I wanted the prime focus to be on the love story blossoming between Logan and Abby but the ending felt a bit rushed and a lot of action happens that took the attention off our main couple and split every which way with side characters, interconnecting plot lines and a lot of outside drama.

Overall a good read but I think it would have helped to concentrate on our MMC and MFC and have side characters player smaller parts in the big picture. This is part of a series. Each book/installment is a new couple and for the most part, can be read as a standalone.

Favorites Bits:
🖤 The girl gang
🖤 He gifts her a puppy AND a kitten 🥹
🖤 Logan's yum matching Abby's!

book review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“… a part of me wished he could just squeeze all my broken parts back together.”

It Shouldn’t Be You by Shannon Jade was a huge hit for me— I knew it would be five stars within the first few pages at the start. I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC for my unbiased, honest review, and with this being my first book by Shannon Jade, I am so thoroughly impressed and wanting to read more!

This is a mafia romance that I would say leans dark, so please check your trigger warnings before going into this, and it follows Logan and Abigail in dual pov of an arranged marriage between the two. There’s a thriller sense to this book because of the unknown, and I absolutely loved it! I was dying to read more and figure out what was going on with the mystery side and with the budding romance between the two “rivals”.

The quote I chose from this book, which I do sometimes for my reviews because some author’s writing speaks to me, feels like something I’ve felt like but never been able to place. How hauntingly beautiful it is to say that you wish your partner, who you feel so safe and loved by, could just love your broken pieces together and make you whole. That will stick with me, and I’m angry I didn’t think to write it!!

Ms. Shannon, your writing is stunning and I am obsessed with how dynamic, morally grey, and addicting your characters are. I do need to apologize for this review being so late, but I am so honored I got the chance to be apart of your ARC team and fall in love with your book. I’m simply amazed.

If you love:
-morally grey men
-“my wife”
-mafia
-arranged marriage
-on page spice
-dark romance
Then you will adore this!

It Shouldn’t Be You by Shannon Jade is available on Kindle Unlimited and on Amazon in paperback. Happy reading 📖🤍

"It Shouldn't Be You" by Shannon Jade, the second installment in the Four Points Mafia series, is a gripping tale that masterfully combines intense drama, raw emotions, and forbidden romance. The story follows Logan, a character driven by a desperate need to escape his past and the twisted legacy left by his father. Logan's journey is complicated by his involvement in an arranged marriage with Abigail, a mafia princess who has resigned herself to a loveless union.

From the outset, the tension between Logan and Abigail is palpable. Abigail, initially wary and guarded, finds herself slowly drawn to Logan's complexities and vulnerabilities. Logan, in turn, is torn between his growing feelings for Abigail and his dangerous life. Their relationship evolves from one of mutual suspicion to a deep and consuming passion, making readers root for their love to prevail against all odds.

Shannon Jade's writing is both evocative and immersive, capturing the dark allure of the mafia world while also delving into the emotional struggles of the characters. The narrative is filled with unexpected twists and turns, keeping readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page.
Themes of redemption, resilience, and the power of love are woven throughout the novel, offering a poignant exploration of how two flawed individuals can find solace and strength in each other. "It Shouldn't Be You" is a compelling read that will leave fans eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

Thankyou for providing such a goood book to me @authorshannonjade @bloomandbeyondpr

Completed this book just now, and I can't stop myself from writing the review because oh my God, this book was so good. I read a very good very nice and very hot dark Romance book after such a long time and to be honest, this book didn't disappoint me

Logan and Abigail are so much meant to be for each other. I mean, they are so perfect together That I can't stop myself from rooting for them. The plot of the book is so good so nice so much mystery and suspense going around.

Logan is a mafia, but to be honest, he's so cute and so soft hearted that I can't imagine the mafia being like this. He is so sweet towards Abigail. He also grts pets (a dog and a cat) for her because she wants to have them.
Twere forced in a marriage or you say it was a marriage of convenience for both of them, but they were too good to be together, and I loved them so much and Abigail and LoganI are now my one of the favourite couples, and I cannot stop myself from shipping them together.
This book is a part of series but can be read as stand alone. I haven't read the first book, but now I will surely read it, and the third book is yet to come out.
T side characters that I loved in the book were the friends of Abigail that is Cora and Lily. They were so sweet and so much girls' girl vibe also Alex, Owen and Cole were also so good

I give 5/5 ⭐️ and 4/5 🌶️

Thoughts 💭

I liked how Abigail has a caring nature and wants to be there for her girlfriends! I love how Logan is obsessed with her. He doesn’t want to fall but seems to fall first and hard!!

The characters and the plot had a lot of potential, but sadly it fell flat for me.

The characters needed more depth because they were all pretty surface level. You could see glimpses into their pasts and personalities, but everything was kept vague. I think the story needed a deeper explanation, especially with how Logan got the merger to happen. You know he is looking for someone and needs help, but that whole situation was confusing to me.

The pacing was quick which I usually enjoy, but the story was extremely vague. I wanted more exploration into the mafia and their differences, especially since this arranged marriage was a merger. It would’ve been interesting to world build the character and mafia then dive into the romance.

The book was a really hard read for me I started it weeks ago and hadn’t picked it back up. The book felt a bit too cliche and was missing that sparkle moment that is unique. I enjoyed the text groupchats but the book left me hoping for so much more!

Overall, the writing style was not for me I did end up dnfing the book at (55%). You’re not gonna love every book you get and that’s okay!

🫶🏻 If you love spicy mafia romances I ask you to give book a shot just because it wasn’t for me doesn’t mean you won’t love it!

I was first drawn to this and a little bit excited to read “It Shouldn’t Be You” when I saw what it was about. Who doesn’t love a good mafia story with a grumpy, overprotective spouse? But I will say that is where, for me, the excitement ended. This 200 something page book was a little bit hard for me to get through. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED Abigail. She was someone I could really see myself being friends with. Her love for her friends and people she loves is so fierce. You just know she would go to the ends of the earth for anyone if they even thought of asking. But I was left high and dry with Logan. By the end he was almost a caricature of himself. He fell flat and was very one dimensional. He had sex on the brain and that was all.

The story itself is what kept me going through this book. The plot itself is no page turner, although it very much had the potential to be. I really wanted to know what happened, and how we got to where we are and how to move forward from here but we never got any sort of resolution or even closure. We got a lot of “I’ll tell you laters.” And I feel the pacing was off. I really wanted the information about what Logan was doing, who he was trying to catch, and what he was trying to find out was all so fast. I felt as if I was getting whiplash.

With that being said. If you want a book that is loaded with sex scenes, insta-lust, and a plot to just help chug along to. Then this book might be five stars for you.

What really stood out to me about this book was how it broke the mold of the typical mafia romance. Yes, there was danger, power struggles, and a whole lot of heat, but at its core, this was a story about two people genuinely trying to build something real—despite the chaos around them. The mystery woven throughout kept me hooked, adding an extra layer beyond just the romance.

Abbie was a breath of fresh air. She wasn’t just there to be a damsel or a fiery rebel—she had her own passions, her own drive, and a heart so big that it made her feel like someone you’d actually know in real life (minus, you know, the mafia ties). She balanced strength with vulnerability in a way that felt so authentic.

And then there’s Logan. From the second he laid eyes on her, he was all in. No unnecessary games, no back-and-forth about whether he wanted her—he knew, and he made sure she knew too. The way their relationship unfolded after their unconventional start was one of my favorite things about the book. Instead of an instant, all-consuming obsession that overshadowed everything, they took the time to learn each other, to build something deeper.

This book had all the intensity you’d want from a mafia romance, but it also had heart, chemistry that sizzled without overpowering the story, and a relationship that felt worth rooting for.

Thank you to Shannon and bloom & beyond PR for the opportunity to read this book as an eARC.

I always try to have an honest review and will maintain to do that - fully making it clear that these are my thoughts and opinions.

At first when I started reading this book - I immediately got the ick - it was too soon and too rushed and it all started to feel like a book I had only recently finished - and then there were too similarities and I was ready to DNF the book.

Until I started to scrap away the layers of the tropes and the dark romance and found an underground story - one that should have been given more depth and more detail. Only because of this story did I continue and finish the book.

The FMC was great, wasn't exactly one I disliked like so many numerous ones of late, the MMC well he's an interesting one, mr grumpy hard ass, however, the romance felt a bit too quick and surface-level, lacking in real connection or emotional build-up..

One thing that really bugs me of late, is there's two types of books at the moment the ones that are 600page long and nothing happens and the other ones that are 250pages and SO much happens that everything is rushed and overlooked -This book falls into the latter category. A key emotional moment, like the death of a friend, was resolved too quickly, leaving me disconnected from the impact it should have had.

Overall, the book had a lot of potential and a lot of promise. With more time spent on character development and pacing, it could have been something really great So for now it’s a 2.5 rating for me.

I LOVED Abigail and Logan’s relationship. I loved that Abbie was not opposed to the arranged marriage and that Logan made an effort to get to know her and go on dates before getting down to business 😉😏. I am obsessed with Logan, his love for animals and his desire to take down everyone in the sex trafficking “business” might’ve gained him lots of points. The spice was spicing, and the friendships were everything. What happened to that one side character was unnecessary! 😢 They didn’t have to, nor did they deserve to go out like that. THEY DESERVED BETTER! Apart from that death I honestly have no complaints about this book. Loved it and I 100% recommend it!

It Shouldn't Be You is the second book of the Four Points Mafia series, and oh my God, I'm so invested in this series!

The plot was so good with secrets buried underneath being revealed one by one. I had to think about the possibilities that could happen in the next. Waiting for the release of the third book of the series.

Abigail and Logan’s story was so good. Abigail, a true mafia princess with sass y'all will fall in love with her. Logan was a cruel mafia boss but soft for his wife only.

Talking about the tropes, I'm not a huge fan of Arranged Marriage. But if I get to read a book like this one I'll gladly make this trope my favourite. Mafia element books with arranged marriage/ contract marriage tropes usually start with couples being at each other’s throats but this one? Nothing like that.

Instead of being ignorant, Abigail and Logan chose to understand each other and gave their marriage a chance. Over his work, Logan prioritised his wife. Abigail got a caring, doting husband instead of the loveless married life she imagined as her fate. With Abigail, Logan received the affection and happiness he thought he never deserved.

I had so much fun reading this book. Like I'm glad that I signed up for the book tour and got to read such an amazing book. Can't wait for the next book.

This was a classic, “I saw one quote online and had to read it!!!” 😂 and it didn’t disappoint!

I think what I liked so much about this book is that it didn’t feel like your classic “dark” mafia romance. There was a huge plot point of a mystery to figure out and Abbie and Logan feel like two people who I could meet through mutual friends and end up enjoy spending time with (okay, outside of the fact that they’re mafia lol).

Abbie was actually a sweetheart; she loved baking, planning events, and volunteering at the local animal shelter (who put this mirror here? Is that me??) She tried so hard to fit into Logan’s world while also standing her ground for herself.

Logan was in DEEP for Abbie from the very get go and never stopped showing her how bad he had it. I did really like how they “dated” each other after marrying to get to know each other in an attempt to build a lasting relationship. There was insta-lust without it completely devouring the plot.

The cliffhanger has given me a hangover and I’m eager to get the next book in my hands!
