I received a free ARC from BookSiren, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Actual rating: 4.5/5 stars

The beautiful cover is what made me want to pick up the book, but pitching it for fans of The Last Airbender, which I just finished for the first time last month and adored, is what made me want to read this. Also, I must be honest, the explicit mention of it being a clean story. Honestly, I didn't even really read the actual synopsis other than seeing that Alisio was an air mage and Esko was a prince. I was already committed.

Our main girl, Alisio, was wonderful and so much fun to follow along with. She was on her own, but she never made it anyone else's problem. She stood for what she believed in, and she had no problems fighting for it despite what was thrown at her. Getting to switch between past and present to see her learn her element and train at the temple, traveling with her to Eden, watching her protect Esko, living through her experience of what happened with her parents and having people turn on her at a whim… she was so strong, even if it was partly an act, or even though she could often times be found not caring about herself before everyone else.

And then there was Prince Esko. Despite being a prince, he didn't truly have such rights, as the females rule the Earth Queendom. Not only that, but his powers were merely average which made him seem much less like he came from a place of power and more relatable. He took his time, was intelligent, and tried his best to be careful. I loved him, and his ability to find a safe space in Alisio while both being cautious of her and staying open-minded made their relationship that much sweeter.

Speaking of the relationship, there was definitely not enough time for the two to form one, and I hate rushed relationships. However, I love both of them so much so I'll gladly look over it to get an amazing politically-intrigued, plot driven story.

And then there were Cers, Aqora, Jade, and the others on their side. They were such a dysfunctional group, yet it worked. They were all written so well and uniquely, and I know we'll end up seeing more of them in greater depth as the series continues. I honestly can't wait to see more about how they ended up where they are, or more about "him".

And we can't forget about Princess Nephrite! I was a little hesitant of her at first, but she definitely grew on me by the end. Her scuffle with the Baron was amusing, although the entirety of her character make me expect (or maybe just secretly hope!) that she'll turn up to play an even bigger role later in the series.

And Pyro! I am very upset about that ending and I really hope we get answers soon! Also what happened to Rain???

I honestly have no idea how I feel about Aspen yet…

I never thought I could fall in love with a political fantasy, but everything about this one I just loved. Getting to actively see the policies and details about both sides, hearing conversations that happened between the parties and seeing how real politics works with lies, and buying people out, and manipulation. Seeing how things work not just with the "politicians" but also how it's perceived by the citizens. It all comes together so nicely in a way that is, unfortunately, real and raw and can be seen in everyday life.

My main reasons I couldn't rate this at five stars lay only within my inability to remember things, and let me tell you, trying to remember the feminine/masculine states, and all of the traits and everything for all of the elements was not happening. I spent so much of the first part of this book confused. I am so thankful that the author included charts at the front of the book. Not to mention that some of the naming was confusing, and I was having a difficult time distinguishing everything from one another… although that's more than likely something that will sort itself out as we continue the stories.

I absolutely cannot wait for more books in the Elemental Mage Pentalogy!

Alisio Skylor is an Air Mage and her parents were politicians who are falsely accused of being terrorists by a fellow politic and are murdered. Alisio is now determined to get vengeance when she overhears the blackmailer and murderer of her parents plotting with their criminal group, called the Wolkarians, to assassinate a prince from the Earth Queendom. And realizes she has an opportunity to not only save him, but gain him and the royals favor to expose this corrupt group and stop them from taking over the world.

So this had a very enjoyable story, world, magic system and a cute romance.

I really enjoyed the different elements giving me the Air Bender vibes mentioned, with their unique way of using their powers. I always enjoy books with elemental magic systems. The author built an entire world in here, and that in of itself is admirable.

The characters were enjoyable. Alisio is fiery, and Esko is sweet and just trying to make the world a better place. There’s a few side characters I really liked, such as Pyro, he was very entertaining 😆 and Aspen who I was trying to understand, but his scenes were enjoyable 😆

It had an element of mystery to it too since the criminal group kept mentioning a “he” throughout the book, and just made me feel sus of everyone 😆

I really did enjoy the story, I just couldn’t handle the style of writing.

There were random chapters that took us into the past and I think only one or two made sense, but the rest I felt wasted my time, unfortunately. This is also a very political book, and there is a lot of info-dumping all throughout the book and my attention struggled to stick with the book at times. It seemed to focus more on the world and its political system rather than the actual plot, and could have been a shorter book if a lot of that was taken out and probably more enjoyable or at least attention grabbing.

I also didn’t understand why so many people just believed everything that the papers said. Nobody questioned the validity of what the newspaper said, they just always accepted it, and if somebody questioned those that wrote those papers, that person was always considered like a conspiracy theorist. I just found it really odd the way the world was run, I suppose.

For the most part, this was an enjoyable read. I would recommend if you enjoy books with elemental magic and sweet romances.

Thank you to BookSirens and the author for the e-ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wind that Blows from Nowhere by Zoiy G. Galloay ended up being the exact type of fantasy book I needed to get me out of my reading slump! Throughout its pages we’re introduced to a powerful fantasy world where the kingdoms and queendoms are divided by the type of elemental power their people possess. The people with Air powers, for example, live in the city of Brisote, while the people with Earth powers live in the city of Eden, and that’s exactly where our main characters are from.

First, we meet Alisio Skylor, a young Air-Mage who is on the run for crimes she didn’t commit after her parents were murdered after being blackmailed and the “Society” decided to try to eliminate her as well after she was found spying on its leaders. Then, we have Prince Esko, a prince from the Earth queendom who has no rights to the crown but still wishes to help his people by running for house and representing their needs. Both Prince Esko and Alisio will join hands in a dangerous game of tug of war between the secret society known as “the Society” and the rulers of each individual nation. With his life on the line, Esko has no other option but to trust his masked and mysterious savior and hope they can stop this madness before things get out of control and their respective kingdoms and queendoms end up overrun by tyrants.

From my point of view, Wind that Blows from Nowhere ended up feeling like a breath of fresh air after only God knows how long. Maybe it was because this was a YA romantasy and I haven’t read one of those in a while, or maybe it was because it was simply a fun and intriguing book to read. My favorite thing about this book was the fact that even though it was a romantasy, it also had a strong plot, a rich and interesting world building, political intrigue, elemental magic combat, forbidden romance and more!

Overall, even though this book is very PG-13 it’s still a lot of fun and I definitely recommend it for fantasy fans who love elemental magic and stories like Avatar: The Last Air Bender and the Air Awakens series by Elise Kova because the blurb isn’t lying, it really is a perfect mix of those two series! Also, definitely recommend it for fans or forbidden romances as well–especially those that involve royalty!

This was a very political-based book that's magic system was interesting. What originally drew me to this one was the premise and being a huge Avatar the Last Airbender fan I thought I would love this one. While I didn't fall in love with it I think that there were aspects such as the magic system, characters, and plot that were all very well executed. The problem for me lay in the writing style and pace of the book, the events all took place within 3 weeks which sets for a fast pace but with so much politics crammed in I think some of the story gets lost. The flashbacks that are sprinkled throughout slightly throw off the pacing but are relevant to understanding the main character. The romance was cute and I was completely there for it. Overall, Wind That Blows From Nowhere was an enjoyable read with an interesting magic system that was familiar to me.

Thank you to NetGalley and PYG Press for providing the eARC.

3.5 stars, rounding up to 4

This book follows Alisio, an air mage, as she attempts to protect Prince Esko, an earth mage, who is being targeted by a secret idealistic society. The book goes much deeper than just the one sentence summary, but you understand the gist of it. Strong FMC’s for the win!

I have a lot of different thoughts, so I am breaking down my review into multiple sections / ratings.

Worldbuilding: 5/5
This story has been compared to Avatar the Last Airbender, and I 100% agree. The world building is rich, and the history of the world has clearly been thought out. In the story, you learn so much about the different types of mages (besides Aether), and each type of mage has their own personality and governing style. I think the politics really drive the plot, but also add so much to the world. There were multiple hard themes throughout this book that were very hard hitting despite being YA (corruption in power and in media, death, etc).

Although I didn’t really understand the naming scheme or the different subtypes (air-hopping and wind-whispering air mages for example), I was still able to keep up with the majority of the story.

Characters: 3/5
My favorite character by far was Esko. I majored in Political Science in college, and I love the way he approached different political topics throughout this story. He didn’t want to align himself with one particular party, but rather sided with whatever party’s politics he liked on a policy by policy basis. We love an intelligent king - er, prince.

Alisio seemed a little too YA for me. I will admit, I don’t read a lot of YA anymore, but she just seemed really immature for an 18 year old? Rain and Aspen kind of confused me as characters however. They just kind of existed to exist rather than to do something. Pyro straight up reminded me of Magna from the anime/manga Black Clover. I pictured Pyro as Magna throughout the story, which may be why I loved his character so much, but he was like a breath of fresh air. He has a carefree demeanor that worked so well with Esko’s somewhat uptight nature.

Pacing: 2.5/5
The entire story takes place over the course of 2-3 weeks max. The plot required it to be fast moving, but it just felt too quick for everything that occurred (especially the romance IMO). There were random flashbacks sprinkled throughout the story, and they felt very jarring. Overall, the book did not flow as well as I think it could have.

Romance: 3/5
YA, very little spice.
I thought it was cute, and I felt invested in their romance towards the end of the book. There wasn’t a ton of romance in this book, but I have a feeling we will see more of their relationship as the series continues on.

If you are looking for a book with similar vibes as Avatar the Last Airbender with a strong FMC, then I think you will enjoy this book!

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

In Zoiy G. Galloay’s “Wind that Blows from Nowhere,” book 1 of the Elemental Mage Pentalogy, a young Air Mage decides to fight for her parents’ justice after they are murdered by a deceitful murky secret organization.

Alisio Skylor gets apprehended while eavesdropping on a meeting conducted by Cer, an official from the Wolkarian Society who ruthlessly murdered her parents. With tears in her eyes, she asks him why he treated them that way when all they did was show him kindness. Cer responds that they were caught planning a genocide against the minority elementals in Brisote. Knowing full well that she will seek revenge, Cer proceeds to inform her of his carefully thought-out plot to kill her. This also, he says, will serve to ensure that the specifics of their meeting—such as the imminent invasion of the royal family’s palace—do not leak.

It turns out that Alisio’s parents were battling against a secret society that tricked people into thinking they were open-minded social justice activists. Once persuaded, the latter are willing to falsely accuse and extort others who hold opposing opinions. Individuals born into the Wolkarian society and brainwashed to defend its cult philosophy make up its first tier while individuals like Cer belong to the second stratum; those who have been promised power, fortune, and high-level positions. Despite prioritizing her own safety, her determination to reveal his scam and other malicious schemes brings her to Eden. Her first hurdle, however, is determining how to approach royalty.

The novel immediately immerses the reader in a fantasy world of profound secrecy and heartbreaking revelations. Using characters from the elemental Mage races that dominate the land- Air, Fire, Earth, Water, and Aether- the story is filled with questions, mysteries, and occurrences that leave one wondering how they get along. A young heroine is introduced, and she immediately wins the reader’s compassion and likeability owing to her ability to control her emotions against the person she least expected to harm her parents. She alters the course of events and adds a new layer to the story by saving a prince during a conference, all while reminding readers that fate may be highly inscrutable.

“Wind that Blows from Nowhere” by Zoiy G. Galloay is a thrilling teen/young adult read that begins and concludes with dramatic events and high notes. The reader is consistently engaged by its action-packed, fast-paced scenes and thoughtfully designed settings. The antagonist’s obscurity is expertly used by the author, particularly in the unexpected conclusion and a new storyline that leaves one eager for the next installment. This work will appeal to young fantasy, romantasy, and dystopian readers who appreciate strong adolescent heroes and heroines.

I loved this story and can't wait for book 2 to come out.

Lots of world building but the stage for the time period, culture and politics has to be set. We have elemental mages such as fire, earth, water, and air and their kingdoms and queendoms. The readers are immersed in a fantasy world of secrecy and revelations at every twist and turn. You will definitely be sitting on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen netxt. We enter the story with Alisio(an air mage), one of our main characters, eavesdropping on some elemental mages who want to assassinate prince Esko, an earth mage, because his beliefs don't align with theirs. These same elementals try to kill Alisio when they find her listening in on their meeting. She manages to escape but has nowhere to go because her parents were recently killed for crimes they didn't commit. Once Alisio escapes those trying to kill her they then deem her an escaped criminal and now she a fugitive on the run. She thinks perhaps she should find the prince and save him and see if they can't possibly expose 'the society' for who and what they respresent to their world. I love reading about the different forces the mages can inflict on one another in a fight. Alisio has trained hard all of her life and is very disciplined. But she lets her guard down some in the end of the book and almost meets her end. She and Prince Esko begin falling for one another in a forbidden romance. This novel should appeal to young adults, fantasy, romantasy, and and dystopian readers alike. Alisio is a strong young adult heroin who has been through much but keeps striving to keep herself and the prince alive to make a better future for all.

Light fantasy novels are something that are few and far between. Pitched as a novel that’s perfect for fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender, this is an ARC that I was so excited to dive into.

The parts of Wind that Blows from Nowhere that I enjoyed the most were the fight scenes, the elemental magic-based system and the setting. The setting was very reminiscent of ATLA, as was the magic system, which is something that I love. The fight scenes were also action packed and exciting. This is a light fantasy novel, meaning that gore and excessive violence are not in the picture. The level of violence in this novel is akin to what you would see in a show like ATLA.

While this novel was enjoyable by the end, it was a journey getting there. The plot was a little confusing for the first 40% or so of the novel and even then there were some aspects of the world building that still weren’t fleshed out or explained in depth. The romance was quite insta-love in my opinion. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of our FMC - Alisio. I understand that she’s just gone through something extremely traumatic and is on the run for the duration of the novel, but she seemed so scatterbrained and flighty for someone who has undergone the extensive training of an Air Mage.

This novel does leave off on a cliffhanger, so readers be warned! If you enjoy young adult novels, light fantasy, and Avatar: The Last Airbender, then this is for you!

Thank you too Book Sirens and Zoiy Galloay for the ARC.

Plot 4.5/5
Characters 4.75/5
Ending 4.25/5
Interest 4.5/5

Overall 4.5/5

-I actually didn’t think I would like this book as much as I did. I loved the magic system with the different elements (I did the test and I am an Air Mage). The world is really interesting and I loved seeing the developments although I do wish I could have seen more of it. The plot itself was really interesting although at some points I misunderstood where things were and I just I missed some parts. But the different clans coming together and wondering who they can trust. Very solid.

-I really liked the characters. I found the really interesting individually and together they were just so sweet. I like how they didn’t immediately jump onto each other and it took awhile even though they both had a crush on one another. I love how there wasn’t really any misunderstand between or anything and they just stuck to each other from the moment they met. The other characters were also interesting. Friend and villains alike. I would have liked to see more background on the villains.

-I knew we would be seeing more of Cinder and I expect to see her point of view in future books, perhaps a more developed storyline for her? I would love to read more in this series if I can. I am really curious about everything although I was hoping for a bigger cliffhanger. Then again, that’s probably just me and my high expectations.

Get Your Puffs Tissues Ready?

"Wind That Blows From Nowhere" is Book 1 of the Elemental Mage Pentalogy, written by Zoiy Galloay. I must confess that it took me a few days to get used to this book because of the characters' names being so hard to pronounce. However, the more I read about our tiny, but mighty, Air Mage Alisio Skylor, and the Earth Mage Prince Esko, both heroes in this story, the more I came to love this book. After seeing her mom and dad being murdered in front of her very eyes, and then being sought after by evil Air, Water, and Earth mages, nearly being murdered herself by these evil people, then overhearing them plot out the murders of the Earth Queendom's Prince Esko and Princess Nephite, a brother and sister, Alisio takes it upon herself to save the Prince and Princess, putting her own life in extreme danger. This book is packed full of action, from Alisio's kungfu martial arts skills to Prince Esko's raising trees out of jade marble floors, in order to save each other's lives. Be sure to keep several boxes of tissues next to you because these two elementals, especially Alisio, will endure near death experiences, just in order to save Esko. I gave this book 5 stars. I received an advanced reader's copy via BookSirens and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley, Victory Editing, and Zoiy Galloay for this arc.

Read this if you like:
□ avatar vibes
□ politics
□ five elementals (Air, Earth, Water, Fire & Aether)
□ protective FMC

I instantly requested this book on Netgalley after reading that it involves the elementals and it has Avatar vibes. I was so excited to read this. I had such high hopes for this story.

To be honest, I am a bit disappointed. I thought the book was a bit too slow-paced, and it was sometimes too descriptive. I liked the explaining about the Elementals and how they function, but it could be shorter. I quite liked the action and the fights in the book. That was one of the interesting parts of the story.

I admire the brazen FMC and how she would do everything in her power to protect a prince from another elemental. Their slow-burn romance was so sweet. They are precious.

Overall, it was a good read, but it could be shorter and more fast-paced, more gripping. It ended with a great cliffhanger, though!

This book had so many amazing reviews that I knew I needed to get my hands on a copy.

I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.

There is a lot of world building in this book, but this is needed as the author needs to set the scene, the author uses the world buliding to help us readers understand the time period ,and understand the culture and politics that are around.
We also needed to understand the elemental mages and their kingdoms/queendoms. This is a wonderful fantasy with so many plot twists and turns that the book will have you hooked. And as a reader you will need the nerves of steel as every page is a thrilling rollercoster.

This novel will appeal to young adults, fantasy, romantasy, and and dystopian readers alike.

Wind that Blows From Nowhere is Book 1 in the Elemental Mage Pentalogy by Zoiy Galloay. This fantasy is an excellent romantic suspense. Alisio, air mage, is a wonderful main character along with Prince Esko. I thought that it was great to have the chapters told from either of their point of views. I felt that the story was intense and I never knew what was going to happen and often I was thinking that evil, ambitious mages were going to win. The book does end in a cliff hanger… to be continued. This fantasy series is excellent. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

The book had, what felt for a minute a slow start. But that lasted for about a minute. Then things got interesting. Very interesting. And I could not put the book down. This is everything you ever want in a book and so much more. It's intriguing, enigmatic, exciting, emotional, romantic, perplexing and so so much more. I don't even know where to start. Wow. Just wow. This book isn't even published yet and I already want the next one. This one left thing with a whole lot more questions than I'd prefer

Good book. Alisio is an Air warrior and her parents were tricked in using Cer's contacts to become a representive for their district. He then set them up as traiters and had them killed. Alisio overheard a plot to get rid of Prince Esko and decided that she has to get to him and protect him. He takes some convincing but soon is looking forward to seeing her in the tower. This book is full of danger, suspense, politics, and ends in a cliff-hanger. I look forward to reading the next book.

OMG this was refreshing. I was initially hooked because of the cover (I mean hello do you guys see this masterpiece??) and was scared that the story wasn't going to live up to my hype. I am glad to be proven wrong. I really liked the unique perspective of the world, and we got an intelligent FUN fmc too!! And the secondary characters were developed nicely as well. Overall I really enjoyed the book and loved that it wasn't explicit at all like every book nowadays. I will say though that the romance moved a little too insta for me.

As a big avatar fan, I had to try this book and it pleasantly surprised me!
Where at first I was still looking for many clues to Avatar, the story increasingly took on a world of its own the further I got into the book.
The powers are different and mainly the politics in the world created by Zoiy I found positively surprising.
Even the names of various characters that I found quite cringe at first, were explained.

I am looking forward to book two!

This was difficult to get into. It started with an intriguing teaser about citizens voting themselves into slavery but then jumped into really unimpressive hero POV from a cliched protagonist who sounds just so scattered and condescending that I just couldn’t find it in me to care. Too many world specific terms thrown out without explanation too close together and none of the dialogue felt believable. I just couldn’t put six hours into it.

It was a cute read! It had a fun world, magic system, and story. The romance was sweet. The character’s were fun and enjoyable. It did remind me a lot of the last airbender; which was what brought me to it. I loved the story but the writing style and the timeline of event didn’t really work for me.
