Poetry. Whit Press and W.H.E.E.L., (the Women's Housing and Equality and Enhancement League) have collaborated to publish a poetry anthology featuring the writing of homeless and formerly homeless women of King County. All royalties, and in most cases the entire purchase price of the book, go to support WHEEL and other programs dedicated to ending homelessness. "Without a home, which is a symbol of the self, these women have created a self on paper...Read their miraculous poetry--and give them a home"--Gloria Steinem. "These women tell not only their own stories, but the larger story of homelessness as well. Here are our sisters, our friends, our families--ourselves. This book will change you. After reading the experience, strength, and hope contained in these powerful poems, it becomes impossible to ignore or tolerate homelessness in our communities"--Claudia Mauro.
This is a beautuful and heart wrenching anthology of women's poetry - more specifically, women who have lived or are living on the streets in Seattle. Witt Press partnered with WHEEL - Women's Housing Equality and Enhancement League to produce a collection of work that changed the way I look at the women I see on the street. It's a book that I am proud to help support. And indeed, every purchase of this book helps the women whose poetry is within its pages. All proceeds go directly to WHEEL. Here's a short poem:
