Yule with the Wild God

Rate this book
She’s a curvy witch.
He’s an ancient fertility god.
Together, they’re celebrating Yule in their own carnal way.

Shea

Escaping to my family’s cabin after a scandal at my university sounded like the perfect idea for winter break. That is, until I run into a mysterious warden in the woods. Something about him seems offbeat, but I can’t deny the way he looks at me. It makes my blood hum and my body ache.

Dianus

The maiden knows witchcraft. Her power is strong, sure, and undoubtedly captivating. I have been alone for so long—all but forgotten. I had lost hope until she arrived in my forest. Now I’m keeping her warm on these cold winter nights before the light returns on the solstice.

But can I keep her suspicions at bay long enough to regain my strength? And what will she do once she finds out who I really am? What I really am…

Most importantly, will she still worship me?

Maggie Maren is a lifelong weirdo and misunderstood mystic. Combining her deep love for nature and romance, she enjoys playing mountain man matchmaker. Her stories transport readers to cozy cabins and the great outdoors, where kooky characters find love.

While earning her English literature degree, she worked as a bookseller, because clearly temperance isn’t her strong suit. Her curious ways have led her to some interesting forays as a librarian, professional tarot reader, crystal merchant, and some dark ages in corporate America.

When she isn’t scowling at her laptop writing, she is usually reading. If she isn’t reading, she is either dancing, sipping iced coffee, yipping at the moon, adventuring with her own mountain man, or ugly crying over a majestic sunset. She loves to hear from her readers, preferably in the form of a haiku, but hey no pressure.

Books in the romantasy realm are not typically something I read, but Maggie is one of my auto buy authors. So, I knew I had to at least give this book a try.

I’m glad I did because I really enjoyed it. Even though this is a novella it feels like a whole lot more. To me it was a book, just a little bit shorter. The plot was not rushed or lacking. It even shocked me. There was the right amount of tension and I found myself in my feelings a few times. Shea is an incredible & beautiful woman who is relatable. Dianus…well he’s a god! Enough said, right? But really he reminded me that your person will treasure you and will show you how much they care.

As always I love the witchy elements that are part of the characters and plot. They are authentic and natural.

This read is filled with moments of self discovery & empowerment, sweet heartwarming exchanges that will leave you swooning, and spice that ranges from sensual to naughtttty.

If you feel like you need to slow down and savor a read during the chaos of the holiday season I recommend you pick this book up. I was transported to a forest in Maine and forgot everything going on while reading.

Take a moment, take a breath, drink some water & mead, recharge, reconnect, and celebrate Yule. (And read this book).

The rating would’ve been much higher if it wasn’t for the unnecessary Harry Potter references.

This concept was cute, was a nice palate cleanser. I do wish the dialog was better, especially during spicy scenes.

This has instantly become one of my comfort books. I will read it every year. And I will probably cry happy tears every time I do.

F a t witch gets snowed in with a forgotten fertility god. This is sweet and spicy. Such a wonderful holiday read. I love plus-size romance, but I have never felt more scene as I did in this one.

She’s not a perfectly plump hourglass figure with a soft tummy. She’s got stretch marks and rolls and they don’t get forgotten during the spicy parts. They get worshiped.

Highly recommend. Don’t miss out on Shea and Dianus’ Yuletide love story.

This was ok. If you're really into pagan stuff you'll love this. I went into this expecting a little more romance and more plot but it wasn't bad! (READ the trigger warnings! I did not and there was some stuff I was not a fan of)

PLOT:

Shea is a witch who leaves her university in disgrace after being found to be sleeping with a married high up faculty member. She heads up to a cabin in the woods where she meets a mysterious man who is not as he seems, he's a fertility god of old and they're going to spend yule together.

THOUGHTS:

- Shea drinking her period blood was super gross to me but makes sense because she's supposed to be a witch or something.

- I really wanted to love Shea but she was kind of annoying to me. She was kind of a downer and her talking about her weight a lot and being all "woe is me" kind of threw me out of the cozy magical mood. She doesn't have much personality aside from being a big girl who likes books and pie and I really wanted to see more relationship growth / bonding.

- Dianus was an ok character, I liked his spirit and how he was trying to be truthful with Shea but he just kind of fell flat to me. He doesn't feel like an old god and the fact that most of their relationship was fucking and her being addicted to it because of his aphrodisiac powers didn't really do it for me. Also, they never had a discussion really about fertility so it kind of gave me the ick that he slept with her multiple times knowing her IUD would not last and he could eventually get her pregnant. Like if she was into that from the start sure, but she just seems to have gone a long with it because it sounded nice / he wanted to.

- the smut was pretty good and all but I kind of wanted more? Like more detail, lengthier etc.

This novel was such a refreshing read! I've been wanting to get into more pagan inspired and based books, and I think this one was a wonderful place for me, a baby pagan/wiccan, to start and enjoy.

This novel is less than 200 pages, and I enjoyed every second of it. I kept picking up and distracting myself from some tasks I wanted to complete today. I loved both the FMC, Shea, and the MMC, Dainus. The only thing that I found a little silly was how long it felt it took Shea to realize Dainus was a god or otherworldly being of some kind. The way he spoke and carried himself was drastically different to the novel's modern setting, but I didn't see it as a negative while reading at all.

The plot was quite fast, of course, but it didn't feel as rushed as I thought it would've when I saw the small page count of the novel. I think it worked very well. From the pagan/wiccan side of the audience, I loved all of the rituals and various other pagan inspired aspects of the novel a lot. I was kicking my feet giggling at the end and at the epilogue. I also enjoyed the spicy scenes as well. They were descriptive to a point but didn't drag on like I've seen in the past with shorter novels such as this one.

Overall, I thought this was a lovely and refreshing lighthearted Yule themed read that I was able to finish within a few hours!

Yule with the Wild God by Maggie Maren is a captivating blend of magic, passion, and winter wonder. From the first page, the story pulls you into a vividly enchanting world where ancient traditions and modern emotions collide. The atmospheric setting of the winter solstice is richly described, making it easy to lose yourself in the icy woods and mystical rituals.

The romance between the protagonist and the enigmatic Wild God crackles with chemistry, delivering on its promise of steam and emotional depth. Maggie Maren has a talent for creating complex, magnetic characters who grow as the story unfolds. While the Wild God is undeniably alluring, it’s the protagonist’s personal journey that adds heart to the tale.

I appreciated the balance between fantasy and romance, though there were moments when the pacing felt a little uneven. Some scenes could have used more exploration, while others lingered longer than necessary. That said, the plot twists and emotional payoffs kept me hooked until the end.

If you’re looking for a spicy, magical read that celebrates the season of Yule with a touch of otherworldly passion, this book is well worth curling up with on a cold winter night!

I saw this book on tiktok

I was just scrolling and had finished up another book when this one came across my feed,I didn't know anything about it other than the cover it was Yule instead of Christmas and there was a curvy FMC and a horned God.

Is it bad that I ate this up 😂.
I wasn't expecting anything in this book again it was picked up on a whim there's not really much of a plot but the spice was nice!

Curvy FMC goes to the woods to get away and a horned fertility God basically stalks her. They fall in love and yeah was a fun little ride. I can't get over him making her iud fall out then wearing it as a necklace. I freaking lost it at that part so freaking funny.

If your looking for spice that's a bit different then look no further and enjoy yuletime with these two

Yule With The Wild God by @authormaggiemaren

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
🌶️🌶️🌶️.5

It’s winter solstice today, so there was only one book I could read; it had to be a read by the one and only @authormaggiemaren

Maggie always writes books that celebrate the quirky, wild, curvy women and men who adore those women exactly how they are and Yule With The Wild God is absolutely no different.

If you ask anyone, I am not a fantasy girl but if Maggie writes it, I am totally reading it and hey turns out I am totally into Dianus the ancient fertility gods - he is hot and has a filthy mouth to go with it. Shea is the perfect FMC - she is witchy, wild and learning to love herself for exactly who she is. Completely and absolutely relatable and I want to be her friend immediately.

A small town romance with a twist - I totally ate it up and was consumed by Dianus and Shea from page one 💕.

There’s not too much to report with this book. It’s a good quick Christmas/witchy novella. It’s not crazy in depth with the plot. It’s a quick romance. I appreciated how she wrote in Yule traditions. OH I loved that she had the main character make a simmer pot,I loved the protection charms she placed on everything. The nail in the doorway etc. The only thing that was kind of a show stopper for me was when the FMC snapped and almost went all lumberjack. Also I wasn’t a huge fan of the process it took for her to come into his world. Like her family had to hear about that..like the way she was found in the woods. Honestly this book made me think of the term you get what you ask for and that’s what this book is. You asked for a Christmas smut you shall receive.

4.5/5 ⭐ 5/5 🌶️

This was such a fun and fast read, perfect for the holidays. It's short but just a bit longer than most novellas, and so much more well developed; you get a full and fulfilling story. The story is steamy, and the spice was plentiful! The MMC is an ancient fertility god, so he knows what he is doing 😏. When he has been all but forgotten in the forest, a beautiful (and voluptuous) pagan witch goes to spend Yule in her family's cabin, and he is drawn to her. She can help him regain his power, if only she will worship him.

This is very much a magical realism vibe, with a shape shifter and fantasy elements. Even though this is pure smut (and so well done), it is beautifully written with such a unique premise and well developed story line that will have you falling in love. And the ending will leave you with all the feels! I can honestly say, I have never read another book like this!

Please read the trigger warnings though!

that was a wild ride (no pun intended). his fertility god semen was so strong it made her IUD pop out and then he took it and wore it as a necklace and would kiss it when he missed her, they get in a stupid argument and she threatens to slice her own neck with an axe, then she decides to leave her entire family and life behind to follow him to the underworld and has to sacrifice herself by cutting her femoral artery while they're having sex in the woods, then she becomes a breeding machine in her underworld life. was thoroughly entertained the whole time honestly

A holiday book that's just my style

I'm not one for Christmas romance. Not my jam, but Yule and wild fertility gods? Yes please! It was gloriously smutty, and our two main leads were loveable. The plus size rep was refreshing. She had insecurities, but it wasn't her whole personality. Watching her grow to love herself and her body was also very well done. If you wanna quick, witchy read with lots of spice, this should be your pick for a holiday book.

Beautiful and Intense

This story was unique. A mortal female falls for an immortal male.

They found each other at the perfect time for her to be able to fall in love. She finds out he’s a god of the earth and fertility and is surprised but not super scared in the long run.

The rest of the book is them falling deeper and deeper in love. She has to make a decision of staying on earth or following him to his immortal realm.

This story is so beautiful and powerful.

There was a scene in the epilogue that made me cry because it hit me right in the feels lol 🥰🥰🥰

Cozy Cute and Confinement. Say less... I generally enjoyed the flow of this whole book. We gollow out main character who just happened to be plus sized as she spends time at her family's cabin during winter solstice. After she starts seeing a huge stag outside of the cabin, she also runs into a rugged man of the woods in town. From there, she finds out how their connected while spending time with him. Definitely recommend this one for a cozy winter read.

I really enjoyed this cozy Yuletide romance! The body positivity in this book was beautiful! 🥰 All in all a great winter read!!

We follow Shea a college student and witch who decides to spend Yule at her Aunt’s cabin to lick her wounds from previous bad relationships. She sets up what she thinks is a self love spell before heading the woods… only to discover a rare buck with 20+ points!! Or was that a man…?!?

The 🌳 tree shibari scene was 🥵

How does one review a story about a god? I was absolutely swept away into this magically perfect Yule tale, and I have a feeling I'll be re-reading it every winter now as a bit of an offering to the horned one himself. Rarely do I get so deeply taken in by a book that so flawlessly combines human and otherworldly elements with a pagan flourish. It is truly a special book and I am so grateful I discovered it!

Was this a good book? No. Did it do exacrly what I needed it to do? Absolutely.

This was a cute read when I needed a palate cleanser. I'm giving it 3 stars, because it did it's job lol. The writing was meh, the dialogue was corny as fuck, and the characters were... interesting. BUT, it was silly enough to pull me from the slump of a DNF on another book.

ARC read and honestly, I enjoyed the story, I couldn't put it down, needed to know what came next. Sexy read, he falls first and lots of spice. I absolutely loved how the author ended the book, them being together was expected but not in the way Maggie wrote the ending. I completely adored this read.

Thank you so much for the eARC. Now to get myself the physical. ❤️

if you read one holiday novella this year, make it this.

I adored witchy cabin in the forest vibe so much, the setting of this was truly magical.

you will absolutely swoon over Dainus and Shea was so sweet ans whimsy I literally want to be friends with her.

if flower crowns, hair braiding, spicy time on furs with a horned god, and an oak tree throne are your vibe, you will love this!

Super spicy winter romance. Our FMC makes some caution to the wind choices but she gets her HEA. What happens when you run from your problems to find yourself in the wilderness but a fertility god finds you? This book makes a point about consent and living your truth as the MCs find their way beyond their immediate desires to their forever together.

Short, quick and easy read.

Shea fled to her aunt's cabin in a remote area surrounded by woods to be alone. She met an interesting guy named Dianus, who turned out to be the fertility god.

It was really a quick read with all vibes and not much of a plot. I went in with no expectations and I got that. This is your typical palate cleanser.

I went in with zero expectations and had a great time reading this story!

sure, one thing is creepy and would be a red flag in a normal romance book. (how the holly bush came to be) But in this context, it is kind of ok.
