Alpha’s Promise is the spellbinding second book in the Copper Canyon Shifters series. Immerse yourself in this exciting tale of love, courage and secrets.
As a USA Today bestselling romance author, Delta James aims to captivate readers with stories about complex heroines and the dominant alpha males who adore them. For Delta, romance is more than just a love story; it’s a journey with challenges and thrills along the way.
After creating a second chapter for herself that was dramatically different than the first, Delta now resides in Florida where she relaxes on warm summer evenings with her loveable pack of basset hounds as they watch the birds, squirrels, and lizards. When not crafting fast-paced tales, she enjoys horseback riding, hiking, and white-water rafting.
Her readers mean the world to her, and Delta tries to interact personally with as many messages as she can. If you’d like to chat or discuss books, you can find Delta on Instagram, Facebook, and in her private reader group https://www.facebook.com/groups/34898....
The story is a contemporary Western shifter book. It takes place in Texas, on the outskirts of Austin. The Copper Canyon Ranch is owned by the Savage family and the head of it is Colton Savage—along with brothers, Bryce and Landon.
Dakota Westwood feels trapped and she knows time is running out. She needs to escape to protect herself from her cheating fiancé. She will search the house owned by her late grandfather, finding some money, enough to get out of town. But it is a subtle message he said to her that has her making plans on which direction to head.
“Look to the east when the time comes, Dakota. That’s where you’ll find the wolves.”
What a surprise when Landon finds a woman walking out in the middle of the ranch area. He can tell something is amiss but he must get her to trust him, and he offers her a ride to where she wants to go—into town, to the diner.
“Careful. That kind of fire can burn a man alive.”
Gaining the trust of Dakota won’t be easy. The people in town have embraced her at the diner. And guardedly, so have the inhabitants of Copper Canyon Ranch.
“Sometimes, sharing the load makes it easier to bear. You don’t have to carry it all alone.”
“The precipice upon which they stood, where truth and myth blurred into one.”
The story is a tale of mystery, suspense, secrets, danger, and discovery. Survival will have Dakota running, following the words of her late Grandfather will have her heading toward Texas and finding herself near Copper Canyon. Meeting Landon Savage will be fate. Discovering a family secret will be a changing point.
The story was fast-paced and action-packed. The chemistry between Landon and Dakota is instant and fated. Sharing the truth about themselves and their families is enlightening. It is a bond that neither one expected and now that they know, they embrace it.
“Accept the truth of who you are. Accept your heritage, your power. Accept me as your mate, your protector in this new world you’re about to enter.”
“Whatever our destiny holds, we’ll face it as one.”
The story does not end on a cliffhanger but does have a segue into the next storyline.
Delta James has a talent for captivating readers with her strong characters and immersive world-building. "Alpha's Promise" is the second book in her "Copper Canyon Shifters" series. This story follows Landon, the second Savage brother, and Dakota, whom he encounters while she is walking along the ranch. Before his brother Colt met his fated mate, Bryce, Landon believed the concept of fated mates was merely a myth or an old wives' tale.
Dakota is on the run from her ex-fiancé, haunted by the words of her late grandfather: "Look to the East, Dakota, when the time comes. That's where you'll find the wolves." These words lead her to the ranch, where she meets with Landon. Initially, Landon struggles to understand the overwhelming feelings he experiences, but he quickly recognizes a powerful urge to protect her.
This story features a fated-mate romance intertwined with mystery and the unique scenario that played out only added to my enjoyment of the book. Overall, this installment is a wonderful addition to the series.
I was totally engrossed with the almost poetic flow of the words. Dakota, in order to get away from her abusive, philandering, ex fiance, follows het grandfather's last advice and travels east to where the wolves are, though she didn't have a clue what it means. Langdon Savage from Copper Canyon Ranch is a wolf shifter who craves solitude and freedom. To him Dakota is a paradox, a puzzle he wants to solve. A slow burn, filled with suspense and action. The unknown past had to be unraveled first. Fated mates and a HEA. I received an advanced review copy and leave this review voluntary Thank you BookSirens
Dakota and Landon’s story continues the saga of the Copper Canyon shifters series and it’s awesome ! The storyline weaves history and a woman on the run from an abusive ex. The characters are true to their nature and are hot as hades together. There’s only one small glitch in the storyline, but hopefully the author will address it before publication as I’ve read an ARC , and it doesn’t affect the plot at all. Love this book and series ! Can’t wait for Bryce’s story ! 5✨’s . I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
DNF at 45%. It painfully reads like a high-school student trying to incorporate every word in the thesaurus and use metaphors in every paragraph. There's no shifter lifestyle. The MMC only shifts a few times, and the FMC seems to have no idea that her dying grandfather was sending her to a pack of wolf shifters or that such beings existed. The past she's running from is so vague as to be irrelevant, yet readers are supposed to understand the motivation behind her escaping with the clothes on her back? Plus, if the fiancé embezzled funds from her grandfather's trust, how is she so poor that she's scrounging for change in the sofa cushions, has no vehicle, and has no money for food or lodging? Halfway through the book, there shouldn't be so many questions about important parts of the plot.
This is a quick read, second in the series, but can be read as a standalone. It’s pretty much non stop action and hard to put down. Dakota and Landon are a great match. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Dakota's resilience is heartwarming. Getting away from her abusive ex brings her to Landon. He is everything her ex isn't. I love how they met, got together, and how she comes into her own with his help and guidance.
3.75stars—ALPHA’S PROMISE is the second instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult COPPER CANYON SHIFTERS erotic, paranormal, romance series. This is wolf shifter Landon Savage, and Dakota Westwood’s story line. ALPHA’S PROMISE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Dakota and Landon) with a final chapter from Bryce, ALPHA’S PROMISE focuses on the building relationship between wolf shifter Landon Savage, and Dakota Westwood. Dakota is on the run, having lost everything in the wake of her grandfather’s death but before he died, Dakota’s grandfather told her ‘look to the east, and finds the wolves’. With nothing left, Dakota followed her grandfather’s instructions, wherein she will come face to face with her future in the guise of wolf shifter Landon Savage. As her future begins to unfurl, the past refuses to let go, threatening our story line heroine in the process.
The world building focuses on Dakota’s struggled to survive in the wake of losing everything and more. Meeting Landon Savage gave Dakota a promise for the future but Landon had a secret that would come full circle with the woman he claims to be his fated mate.
The relationship between Dakota and Landon begins as a ‘rescue’ of a sorts . Dakota lost everything, but her independence meant going it alone until Landon uncovered the truth, and offered Dakota a future and more. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters include the return of Landon’s brother and pack alpha Cole and his mate Briar; their brother Bryce; housekeeper Etta, as well as Dakota’s ex -fiance.
ALPHA’S PROMISE is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, betrayal and greed, acceptance and love, magic and the supernatural. the premise is entertaining and action packed but once again, there is quite a bit of overlap and redundancy (retelling in different POV); the characters are charismatic; the romance is fated and impassioned.
I am really enjoying the whole Western cowboy wolf shifter aspect of this series. I was pulled in at the very beginning. Dakota's plight was filled with suspense. The kind where you hold your breath, fingers crossed that she won't be found out, caught, or stopped.
From Chapter 1, the basic mystery behind Dakota was fairly obvious. It was more about how entangled her mystery would be with the Cooper Canyon Ranch and its inhabitants.
Even with that beginning, full of detailed descriptions of locations, feelings, and searches, I still felt like I was missing something. I re-read the first chapter a couple of times. I wanted more information about how this situation came to be. How did her ex-fiance` come up with the accusations he threw her way? What were the veiled threats? What prompted the anger? Of course I could use my imagination to answer my questions or fill in the blanks. So, I did.
I found similar situations, events, or whatever you would like to call them throughout the book. It was like something would happen in a scene, then it would cut to the next scene, but I felt like the connecting factor between the scenes wasn't there. I admit that it led to some confusion and a bit of rereading for me.
I ultimately decided to just go with the flow of Landon and Dakota's romance. That other shoe I was expecting to drop never happened when "I" expected it to happen. But, it did eventually happen.
With that being said, I did enjoy the romance, the story, the legend, the mystery, and magic. The final scenes were suspenseful. The transition from one chapter to another often gave both Landon and Dakota's POV. I really wish there had been an epilogue about Dakota and Landon before the part of the book giving me a peek into Bryce's story. I would give this 3.75, maybe the full 4 stars.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Alpha’s Promise is book 2 in the series Copper Canyon Shifters, by Delta James.
I really enjoyed the almost surrealistic vibe here.
From the start, the tone is set that there are secrets, mysteries, that will impact the FMC, Dakotah. The reader doesn’t get many answers right away. An enigmatic instruction from her grandfather repeats… go East, to the wolves. Dakotah is clueless, but knows she can’t stay where she is, because of… reasons. The story unfurls slowly, deliberately.
Landon, the MC, has questions, too, but he’s not getting answers either. Landon, however, is more patient than I. 😉. He’s willing to wait, to be supportive, to get to know this woman who wandered into his life. He can tell she’s running… from something… but doesn’t know what. It doesn’t take him long to realize that Dakotah is his fated mate. The attraction between them is electric; DJ readers know the characters are pretty quick to get together, for things to get steamy. But there’s a sense of waiting here.
Events progress. The answers, when they’re revealed, have some surprises. (I enjoyed them! ). Is EVERY mystery revealed… not so much; but that’s ok. The ones given are satisfying. There might be more in future stories.
We await your offering, Ms James! Thank you for this one.

This is book two in the series and is Landon and Dakota's story. While the first book was very good, this one didn't live up to expectations. There's an editing error in her current series which has become extremely frustrating. She's currently writing from a single point to view per chapter. In this and her other new series, she's telling the first pov and then immediately retelling it with the other's pov in the next chapter. The reader is reading the same scene twice and it seems like a filler.
Dakota leaves her fiancé and home and goes east. There's no reason for it given and she comes off as wimpy. Landon was more fleshed out in the prior book, so he didn't seem fully fleshed out. There were flashes of the arc going in a good direction, but it seemed that was only flashes. The lack of interaction with the rest of the pack was disappointing. I will say this book was a struggle to get through especially since this author can do so much better. I'm going to guess it's due to the number of series she has going and would hope she would slow down and really concentrate of each book and tell the stories I know she can. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
wow this one was even better than the first one. has some exciting plot twists and developments that u don't expect which adds to the drama of the storyline. great character development. the author really richly details the personality and emotional state of her main characters and the daily life surrounding the copper canyon ranch. this one didn't really feature much in the way of the entire pack which was a bit sad because the focus was really on the two main characters in this story.
i really enjoyed the strength of Landon, his moral compass and willingness to step back, take is time getting to know Dakota and allowing her the space to work thru her trauma while still being loyal and steadfast in standing by her side and protecting her. he didn't come off all alpha i'm getting my own way. Dakota was fragile yet with a core of steel, unwilling to continue on in the life that wasn't right for her and being taken advantage of. she did what was necessary to make her way to a new life not asking for help and on her own with no support or means until meeting landon and still she worked to pay her way there too. I highly recommend this series. can't wait for book 3. I received an arc copy from book sirens and this is my honest voluntary review.
Wonderful second book in the Copper Canyon Shifters, great characters and storyline This is a totally captivating read based around the two main characters that are Dakota and Landon, it is centred once again around the wonderful location of Copper Canyon and its inhabitants. Dakota is on the run from her abusive ex and she finds herself in Copper Canyon where she begins to feel more like her old self although extremely careful and wary of people, she is trying so hard to begin her life again but it is by no means easy. She meets a man Landon that she actually feels safe and happy to be around and feels that she can trust him with her secrets and slowly over time opens up to him about how she found herself to be living in Copper Canyon. Their interactions with each other are simply wonderful to read and I guarantee that there are a few hair-raising moments that I will not go into as I don’t want to spoil the read and the plot for others. I guarantee that you will be like me an unable to put the book down once you begin reading and discover the outcome, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.
"A Wonderful Shifter Romance story and series" The story is exciting, and Mysterious. The characters are awesome and unique. Dakota is a spunky young woman. She had been in a abusive relationship for some time. One day she decided to run away from the situation. Her Grandfather who had passes away. On his death bed had told Dakota to head east towards the wolves there she would find safety. Dakota didn't know what he meant, but she did as he said and headed east. Her travels lead her to a place called Copper Canyon. Where Dakota meets sexy Landon. Landon is a sexy wolf shifter rancher. He and his brothers own and run the Copper Canyon ranch. One day while mending a fence. Landon meets the mysterious Dakota. He feels there are mysteries, and secrets to her. Landon is determined to discover what they are. Especially considering he, and Dakota are very attracted to each other! A cryptic message led Dakota to Copper Canyon, but could fate have led her to her future? You will love this five star plus, exciting, thrilling, mysterious, and scorching hot shifter romance story and series!
Dakota, broke, desperate and fearing for her life, flees her cheating, abusive, embezzling boyfriend. Remembering advise her dead grandfather gave her in the past, she heads east toward the wolves, not knowing what it means, but trusting his words. She takes a bus and ends up in Copper Canyon, TX. She meets Landon Savage, a cowboy that happens to be a wolf shifter, and he offers her a place to rest and heal, the Copper Canyon Ranch. Neither expect the attraction that develops between them, and Landon realizes she is his fated mate. They have to fight an enemy and the wariness of the other members of the pack to find their way to each other.
There are lots of twists in this sometimes-scary story. Overall, I thought it was a great story, with good world building and character development. The plot was well-paced with lots of suspense and enough twists to have me keep turning the pages. The sexual tension between the MCs strummed throughout the story with some mildly spicy scenes. I would recommend this book to fans of steamy, cowboy shifter romance stories.

Another great instalment in the Copper Canyons Shifter series. Landon and Dakota's story. Hidden from the truth, Dakota has no idea of her past or her heritage. When her grandfather passed away he took all the family secrets with him. Running from an abusive relationship, Dakota finds herself on the Copper Canyon Ranch, having to walk to her next destination, whilst still trying to flee her ex. Meeting Landon was fate, and if you love slow burn, Delta James does it so well! Whilst Landon was feeling strong emotions towards Dakota, he had no idea what they meant! Having nowhere to go, when Landon offered her a room for rent she took him up on his offer. Working at the ranch to pay her board. Fate works in mysterious ways, as Landon could feel there was something different about Dakota, and as both their feelings develop, the secrets he has kept from her were going to have to be told! Just as she knew she had to return to her family home and find the hidden secrets that her grandfather had kept from her. A slow burn romance with plenty of drama and secrets that need to be unravelled and will keep you reading till they are revealed!
All of Delta's books are special they pull you in and at the end leave you wanting more but, this book was extraordinary. From the first page there was something about Dakota that just drew me in and grabbed my heart. I just felt like this story stirred something in my heart and made me want this story and future for myself. I could feel the links forming right from the start between her and the land and Landon and something stirring in her mind and in her past. It isn’t often that the woman leaves her mark and heritage on the men that Delta creates but in this story there were changes.
It took awhile for Dakotas story and heritage to come forth but the questions begun in her flight and continued in his attic were finally answered and the mark she left on Landon came to light and the questions were answered.
I can’t wait for Brice’s tale and for all the answers for the questions I don’t know how to ask yet.

Her fiancé has betrayed her, now she’s on the run, following cryptic words of direction from her grandfather – “Look to the east when the time comes, Dakota. That’s where you’ll find the wolves.”
So Dakota heads east and ends up in Copper Canyon… and in the arms of a wolf shifter who instantly recognizes her as something out of the ordinary. Landon feels a draw he’s never experienced with another woman before, and he soon realizes that Dakota is his fated mate. But she has secrets and he does as well. Trust builds slowly, but as they grow closer, they begin to unravel the questions that overlay Dakota’s family background and the danger she sparks as a result.
This book has a different feel than most of the author’s shifter books. A lot more description, less dialog, for instance. And instead of well-drawn side characters you get more of a glimpse. But the intrigue and romance are all here, and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

This is the second book in the ‘Copper Canyon’ series and focuses on Landon, the middle Savage brother and Dakota, a woman who just escaped her abusive, cheating, embezzling ex-fiancé that stole all her grandfather’s money. Her grandfather often told her to “look to the east when the time comes, Dakota. That’s where you’ll find the wolves.” Dakota discovers a small amount of cash and leaves for the east.
Dakota is walking by the Copper Canyon Ranch when Landon sees her and offers her a ride to town. Realizing she doesn’t have a place to stay, he tells here she can work at the ranch and stay there. He also realizes that she is his fated mate and human. They both have secrets, including one about herself that Dakota isn’t even aware of.
It is suspenseful when the ex-finance’ shows up and a battle begins. Landon is prepared to do anything to save and keep his fated mate. They have a well-deserved HEA! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Dakota Westwood left everything behind to find out what on earth her grandfather's last words to her mean. Landon Savage and his brothers, all of them alpha wolf shifters, own the Copper Canyon Ranch in Texas. Landon is the middle brother with no intention of, or desire, to find his fated mate. She is running from her past as well as searching for answers when Landon sees her walking along the road, he offers her a ride which she will reluctantly accept. Neither of them expected the instant attraction, but Dakota is running from and ex-fiancé and finds it difficult to trust Landon. Unfortunately, her past will catch up with her and it will take everything she has to survive the confrontation.
Fascinating characters in an engrossing fated mates shifter romance with some action, steam, surprising twists, and a happily ever after. This is the second book in a wonderful series, and I highly recommend it to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this ARC which I received from Book Sirens.
Copper Canyons is proving to be my favourite Shifters' series
Dakota is amazeballs! She recognised that she was in a relationship with jerk, didn't have a pity party, in fact she just took what she could find, left and started walking. And walk she did until she met Landon. Landon is best described as a good man, and he treated Dakota accordingly.
It doesn't take long for Delta James' word tapestry to start weaving its spell in my mind's eye - there's something mysterious and ethereal about Dakota which draws Landon to her, and makes him reassess his opinion about fated mates.
This is another tale with substance to it - there's two wonderful main characters, a ranch, a garden, intrigue, self-reckoning, supernatural and its fantastic escapism.
There is graphic scenes, if you don't like those, don't read this; but I loved it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I enjoyed Landon and Dakota's story, though it had its 'what the heck' moments. I will let you find these for yourself. Dakota is more or less on the run from her ex-fiance. I'm not sure why she didn't just kick him out of her house, but it is what it is. Landon finds her walking the fence line of Copper Canyon Ranch and gives her a lift to town. He can't stop thinking about her and when he figures out she has no place to stay, he offers her a room in exchange for helping on the ranch. She is very close-mouthed about how she came to be on ranch property, or where she came from. Since he has a secret of his own, he tries not to push her. But she is his mate and sooner or later they will have to exchange stories....
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
The second in the Copper Canyon series, this book was every bit as compelling and mysterious as the series debut (Alpha's Claim). Landon and Dakota posed complex and intriguing main characters, and Delta gradually revealed layers to both as they developed throughout the book. Full of a variety of secondary characters, from pack members, local town-folk, to the Copper brothers, as well as an uninvited and incredibly unwelcome "ghost" from the past, whose involvement in the story supplied just the right amount of angst and drama to make this another captivating read. (As if you could expect anything less from Queen James?).
I'm thrilled to have gotten the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book, and voluntarily provide this review. This is definately a series you don't want to miss! Happy Reading Y'all 📚
Getting away from an abusive relationship and listening to her deceased Grandfather’s advice, Dakota leaves to create a different destiny for herself.
Landon not entirely believing he would get a fated mate or if he even wanted once is suddenly surprised when he comes across Dakota.
This storyline touches your heart in lots of ways, the unfairness of her life and how she’s at her lowest ebb only to find a town willing to help and a man who could be her everything.
Secrets have a way of revealing themselves, some more than others but together they can overcome just about everything and claim their HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
This book might not be full of suspense, but I was expecting a confrontation much earlier than it did, so that kept me on tenterhooks and suspecting anybody who wasn't family related. Dakota had a bit more stamina than I ever had, but she had experienced a shocking experience to give her the determination to reach her destination. Fortunately Landon was in the right place at the right time and was able to introduce and get her settled on the ranch before anything untoward happened. Again, I found this second book in this series a lot more romantic than other series by this author. I still enjoyed the writing and the touch of history surrounding wolf shifters. I received a copy from BookSirens and this is my honest and voluntary review.
The 2nd book in the Copper Canyon Ranch series has a family secret that must be unraveled. Dakota leaves her ex-fiancé and disappears from her hometown by bus and walking alone along remote rural roads.
Landon Savage sees her and recognizes she’s important to him so he offers her a ride and directions to the nearest town. He tries to be unthreatening and she accepts his assistance.
Most of this book focuses on the subtle yet powerful connection between them, and the secret surrounding the message her grandfather told her just before died. ‘Go east, to the wolves.’
The story is interesting and mysterious with a slow burn romance.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
In this story of the wolves of Copper Creek Shifters, the reader meets the second brother, Landon Savage, who is free spirit in charge of cattle on the ranch. He sees a woman walking along the road leading toward the nearest town. The woman, Dakota Westwood, is running from her family lawyer, who is also her fiancé that embezzled her inheritance after her grandfather died...but her grandfather always told her to "go East and find the wolves" so she left New Mexico and went to Texas...but there are secrets in both of their lives that need to be untangled before they can claim each other, but you will need to read this mesmerizing story to see what happens. I voluntarily read this book through an Advanced Reader Copy.
Dakota is on the Run! Before her grandfather passed the first thing that he made her promise was that she would head to the east to find the wolves. She had no clue but that's what she did. Walking up the road along the property line, Landon sees her walking in the distance he offers her home shelter and a place to rest. As he is the middle child of the three brothers, he did not realize that he found his faded mate. Taking it slow and helping her understand the mysteries of what her grandfather was trying to tell her. Intense. Suspenseful when waiting for the other shooter drop. But in the meantime this was a good read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Alpha's Promise is the fated mates series and it takes you on a wild ride full of mystery, suspense, myths, curses and a ghostly hand. I loved the deep connection between the main characters even before they meet. The cryptic message from her grandfather leads Dakota east and towards her future. The prose and world building by this author continues to entice readers to turn page after page to reach the HEA ending. This story was more than I expected and cannot wait to read the next one. Be prepared for unexpected twists and turns. The strength of both main characters are enhanced by the secondary charters as only Delta James cand do.
Dakota’s arrival at Copper Canyon Ranch brings a tide of change for Landon. Dakota has a lot of secrets in her past, truths about her family that she never knew. Landon recognized her as his fated mate but her being an outsider and (apparently) human was a concern to the pack. Dakota and Landon’s search into her background and family history draws them closer together. Dakota gains self-confidence and strength in her bond with Landon as her knowledge of her ancestry comes out. Lots of heat, mystery and intrigue. Interesting read!
