Legends claim that if you conquer the trials of Mt. Lavrynth, the god atop the mountain will grant your wish. But Jaci didn’t come to win a wish — she came to die.

Jaci enters the mountain seeking a good death, but instead she befriends two others desperate to Shari, a young woman eager to prove herself, and Pat, a man searching for his family. Jaci must keep her companions safe as they venture deeper within the mountain to confront deadly competitors and strange beasts.

As the secrets of the mountain unravel, Jaci must decide what she truly wants and whether life is worth living.

"The Last Door" is the debut novel of Jordan Cimenski, a middle-school English teacher, who grew up in a military family and has a passion for mental health advocacy. This book explores mature topics, such as depression, suicide, loss, and grief. For parents, teachers, or young there are two mentions of alcohol and many violent fighting scenes, but no explicit language or content.

Giving this a 5 star rating because I will 1000% read it again and recommend it to anyone I know. It is fantasy (magic, dragons, wishes, gods, mysterious mountain, etc.) meets Hunger Games. Aside from Jaci's character growth, one of the best parts to me is that every chapter is something new, so it never gets dull. It threw me for a roller coaster of emotions, and had me internally screaming at times. I cannot recommend this book enough!!

This novel takes a cool and unique premise—a mountain of escape rooms with real consequences—and grounds it in surprising depth by weaving in the main character’s struggles with depression and suicidal ideation. The pacing is excellent, giving just enough detail about each room to build tension without slipping into repetition. What really stood out, though, was the character development and the believable, touching relationships that gave the story its heart. The tension stayed high throughout without ever feeling excessive, and the resolution was both satisfying and well earned.
