Clare Lockhart writes light-hearted, paranormal, cozy mysteries featuring middle-aged sleuths who are going through a few changes. Some are welcome (freedom to live the dream) and some not so much (supernatural abilities and a rash of murders).
If you like reading about best friends who find themselves in the odd pickle, twisty murder plots, and cheeky, paranormal visitors, then you’re in the right place.
Clare lives in a small town, a stone’s throw from Lake Ontario, in Canada, and has recently taken up sailing with her partner John. Sailing has to be one of her most challenging and rewarding life experiences. She loves to read, of course, travel and is a bit of a foodie.
Clare comes by her interest in the paranormal honestly. Her dad loved this stuff, so it was natural for her to believe there was more to our world than we perceive. Therefore, you may find a ghost, a psychic witch, and even a parallel universe in her stories.
She also writes time travel romance under the pen name Sharon Clare.
2.5 stars rounded up because this book was a mess but it wasn’t 2 stars bad.
I found it very hard to enjoy this book because from the get go it seemed as if I had started a book in the middle and had no idea what was going on or who the main characters were and I still felt a little lost even after finishing. Not good. A prologue or a few chapters developing the backstory before throwing the reader into the present mystery would have helped tremendously. I’m going to read the next book in the series because I optimistically bought it already (damn my love of Christmas murder mysteries!) but I do not see myself continuing past that unless the next book is spectacular. Spoiler, I’ve already started it and things are not looking too good.
There’s a lot going on in this story of a suspicious death at a Canadian resort at Christmas time. Juliet, working as an elf in a seasonal job, is in hiding from some criminals from California and is very much on guard against anyone who may be the least bit suspicious: for instance, the handsome, young French bartender who keeps flirting with her can’t be serious, right? Meanwhile, a man is killed when a pile of wine crates fall on him. Juliet decides this is a chance to flex her investigation muscles, so she interviews lots of people, looking for motives. There are plenty. Also, as an elf responding to children’s letters to Santa, she takes a hand in granting one writer’s wish. There’s a lot of ruminating about the Christmas spirit, which Juliet fears she has lost, along with her ability to trust anyone, or to trust her own instincts, but by book’s end things are tied up neatly. A pleasant seasonal treat.
Just finished this book and I really enjoyed it. This book is about two women in their 50s who had to leave their homes in Arizona and move to a small town in Canada as they had people after them. Juliet and Lucy were starting their new jobs in a resort at winter time and they were working as Santa's helpers. One day Juliet heard a scream and ran to see what had happened and found a dead man, she could note get it out of her head and decided to start to investigate. She had to be very careful because of her past but she didn't think the police were on the right track. To get the full jest of this book, go and purchase it and spend time following Juliet and Lucy as well as the other employees at the resort. Happy reading, while I check out the next book in this series, only it is written by Irene Jorgenson, it is Titled Mistletoe Misdeeds.
It's Christmas time, and preparations include answering children's letters to Santa, decorations galore, shopping to excess, and solving a murder! Juliet Marlow is having to pretend not to know her best friend of 30 years, Lucy Cooper. Why? It's part of their cover while hiding from thugs from their past who want to kill them. To complicate matters, past betrayals have taught Juliet to mistrust almost everyone! But she manages to solve not only the murder when police believed it was an accident, but a theft no one knew had happened... read the book to untangle The Tinsel Tragedy!
This was a really fun mystery and I enjoyed meeting Juliet and her new pal Millie as well as Juliet's bestie, Lucy. It had to be hard to pretend they didn't know each other and be on the run from something that happened in their old job. It was told little by little, but eventually it was explained why the ladies had come to a remote part of Canada. Juliet got involved in a mystery at her new workplace with a new friend who took to sleuthing really well. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
A short easy to read mystery surrounding Juliet and Lucy two women hiding out as Santa's helper at a Holiday resort. Juliet is working answering letters to Santa. There is the murder of a real estate developer which appears to look like an accident. Juliet investigates with the help of a fellow coworker named Millie. They interview various people and end up solving the case.
This was so all over the place i couldn't get into it, plus it was distracting right off the bat not understanding who these main characters were until around 53% in. The only character i actually liked was Sage lol
Two women are running from bad guys and take seasonal jobs in Canada. One of them needs to solve a murder. Interesting characters. It sounds like there should be stories before and after.
Enjoyed this Christmas mystery. I thought the storyline was interesting and it kept my attention to the end of the book. Likeable characters. Recommend reading.
