Though many tales are told about Daniel Boone's life, his true stories are just as exciting. Daniel explored much of our early nation and helped to settle what is today the state of Kentucky.
I don't even remember where I got this book but I thought it was great for a simple bio about Daniel Boone. While reading I realized that I actually don't know anything about this guy. I wasn't left with the best impression as it seemed he pretty much spent most of his life away from his fam, coming home just long enough to get his wife pregnant again and/or move them to some further wilderness.
To be honest, even after reading this book, I'm not entirely sure why his name is so famous. He spent a lot of time in the woods hunting and exploring, but this book didn't share anything that seemed extraordinary and worthy of remembering 200 years later.
The book itself was written well and would be easy for younger kids to read.
Biography 2nd-4th grade reading level I thought this book did a good job of summarizing the life of Daniel Boone. It really emphasized his love for navigating and hunting. I liked that it had pictures because many kids may not understand the older terminology used, but pictures could help explain things a little better. Students who really like animals may not enjoy reading this book because it talks a lot about him skinning animals and killing hundreds of animals throughout his life.
