Elodie’s Christmas gift from her grandma isn’t just any journal—it’s magic, said to write her an epic love story. But Elodie isn’t looking for love; she’s focused on her first big directing the school’s Christmas musical. Her partner in this endeavor is Mekhi, a talented former musician who’s filling in as the music teacher while waiting for his next gig.
Mekhi is not one to settle down—he’s always looking for the next stage, the next adventure. But when a social worker asks him to urgently foster a 12-year-old boy named Kellan from his class, everything changes.
As the magic journal begins to weave its tale, Elodie starts to wonder if Mekhi is meant to be more than just a colleague. Meanwhile, Mekhi realizes that caring for Kellan might be the start of something more permanent than he ever expected.
This was a Holiday read I didn’t know I needed. This author is new to me & I’m so happy I discovered her. This book captures the magic of Christmas & the beauty of love. Some things are just destined & we can’t change them. I can’t wait until PT. 2
I will never look at a blank journal the same again 😉 Running to write an entry now ✍🏽🫶🏽
Lauren has a beautiful way of capturing the essence of the characters, making you immediately adore them. And not to mention she tapped into my cold dead heart and made me tear up reading this one. 😭🤣 absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to start book #2!
Elodi a Middle School Teacher who teaches Language Arts doesn't have time for a relationship at least that what she's told herself, she goes over to her Grandmada house and she presents Elodi with a journal, a blank journal and she gives her a brief replay of how she met her grandfather, and the story was birthed in the journal before her grandparents ever laid eyes on each other because it was passed down from her mother. Grandmada told Elodi that the journal would be magical, and it would write her love story, and she didn't believe her, she thought she was just making up things.
Principal Ardell asked Elodi to help with the Christmas program and Mekhi a song writer would be working with her, she heard about Mekhi from all the teachers around school about how beautiful he was, she never imagined herself being with him. As the two worked closely together to bring the program to life the closer they became.
Kellan, Elodi's student was very talented, and he worked with Mekhi as well being in the system and recognized a foster child, who placed in bad environment, Jillian the social worker asked Mekhi could he watched him for a few weeks until a new home would become available for him. As time grew, the feelings of Father and Son grew between Mekhi and Kellan and once Jillian found a home for him, he would be placed with his new family.
Montrell a restaurant owner who named his establishment, "The Hungry Hippo" was so funny to me and his competition was Audrey who made great Philly Cheesesteaks. Montrel got started with his business by selling plates out of his apartment which reminded me how we would have Suppers back to take care of bill or college books or raise money for things. This was back in the 80's and early 90's Chile, those were the days. Those supper plates would have rice, mac & cheese, a meat, light bread or cornbread, and a slice of cake on it with foil. I remember those days so clear. Anywhoo, Elodi, Mekhi, and Kellan fit like glove.
Funny Quote: My stepdad say that Christmas sweaters are people who can't get laid.
Real Quote: Enjoy the moment

i received this book for free as an ARC in turn for my honest review.
thank you for giving me this opportunity to review the book!
I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. it was such a cute and sweet short read, and I almost read it in one sitting before I had to go to sleep.
there were a few spots that were a little confusing, like some chapters having the start of the opposite characters POV. I do think that it was just an ebook error/ Kindle error.
Elodie is easygoing and is a very big writer. I'd love to read about some of what she's written. it seems like she's not afraid to say what's on her mind.
Mekhi loves taking care of Kellan, and I loved seeing his relationship with him grow stronger throughout the book.
I really enjoyed the magic aspect of this book because it definitely added some interesting points. the journal writes by itself and shows who to give it to next. I am definitely wondering where it exactly originated from. who was the first person that had the book? did someone mythical create it? I can't wait for what's to come!!

Rarely do I finish a book in a single day, but Elodie, Mekhi, and Kellen’s journey had me hooked from the very first page. I couldn't go to bed without knowing how their story unfolded. It was everything—all the Black love holiday feels wrapped in one perfect package.
This book gave me exactly what I was hoping for and then some. Honestly, I need Netflix or Hulu to make this into a holiday special ASAP because the magic in these pages deserves to be seen on screen.
I can’t wait to dive into Book 2! I already know Audrey and Montrell are about to give us a story just as good, if not better. Bring on the drama, the love, and all the feels!
I recently got my hands on an ARC of this book, and I was absolutely captivated! Elodie and Mekhi's love story pulled me in from the very first page. The way their journey unfolds is so natural and authentic; it really deepened my appreciation for the story. It's refreshingly unique—I honestly haven't encountered anything quite like it before! Lauren has crafted characters that you can genuinely connect with, making every moment feel real. And those spicy scenes? Perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat! I’m thrilled to say I already have book two in my possession, and I just know it’s going to be nothing short of amazing!
I absolutely loved this book! Thank you, Lauren, for including me in your advance reader team! A few minor spots seemed to be misplaced (the end of a couple chapters have a piece from the opposite character) but overall loved this story.
I loved the instant spark that grew over time and the fact that the main characters played no games about each other! I would love to hear more of their story in the future!
I also was very intrigued by the magic journal, and look forward to reading Audrey’s story!
I will definitely be reading more of Lauren’s work ❤️
I have found a new author, and I couldn't be any more happier. This was such an enjoyable and delightful read. This is book one of hopefully a five book series about book club members who find love after a journal gets passed around, starting with Elodie, who received the journal from her grandmother. And young Kellen TBH, stole the show with his innocence. I flew through this story and enjoyed it so much. I do hope the rest of the ladies in the book club each get stories. This is one of those that should be made into a hallmark movie, because it truly gave those vibes.
TYSM for an arc🫶💕 I LOVED every. single. second. of this book. The chemistry between Elodie and Mekhi right from the start had me giggling and kicking my feet. I cried many many times. I messaged the author once while I was SOBBING. Kellan was the sweetest little boy and I absolutely loved how quickly he bonded with Mekhi and how their relationship progressed. It was too freaking sweet 🥺😩 I’m so so so ready to read Audrey’s book 🔥
Black Hallmark vibes!! This story was so cute!! It felt like a warm cup of cocoa while watching snow fall out of your window. The romance so sweet, but my favorite part was watching Kellen find his forever family with our MC’s. It really tugged at my heart. The friend group and familial relationships in this story were beautiful to see, too. Absolutely recommend!!
This book felt so warm and cozy. 2 teachers , a magic journal and then you add in the storyline with Kellen…..ughhhh I just loved it. I believed the connection between Eloise and Mekhi. Seeing how well Mekhi and Kellen just fit tugged my heart strings, and I definitely teared up towards the end. It just felt so wholesome. Looking forward to the next book. Now I need to call my grandma to see if we got a magic love journal in the family.
This was the cutest Christmas story. Elodie and her love for Christmas was over the top, but I loved it. Mehki was the perfect man for Elodie. The magical journal she was gifted by her Grandmada was a nice touch. This journal really writes your love story once you meet your person. This book gave me all the feels. Add in Kellan as the emergency foster placement for Mehki, and you get the perfect love story. Reading Mehki realizing he not only wants to keep Kellan and fall in love with Elodie was perfection. I can really see this being a movie. I could not get enough of this book. On to book 2 to see what the journal has in store for Audrey.
I really enjoyed this novella. It was fun, endearing, and a crisp read to have during a hectic holiday. It gives the feels, found family, and communication. Sprinkle in some magical realism, and the recipe is perfect.
If you're looking for a little magic with a Christmas theme this will do it. School teachers Elodie & Mekhi have been asked to work together on the Christmas pageant. Sparks fly and love takes flight. Set between US Thanksgiving and Christmas the novella is about love and family. Quick easy read.
