Spark is light. Spark is power.
Spark is deadly.

Tyse never asked to play the Game of Gods, but Delta demands loyalty.

With Clara at his side, Tyse is thrust into a brutal world of augments—humans forged to serve and destroy. Each step forward pushes them closer to becoming something more—a force Clara can feel but doesn’t fully understand. A future that terrifies her as much as it draws her in.

Day by day, the man Clara pledged her loyalty to becomes more and more a stranger. But in the Game of Gods, survival demands sacrifice.

Clara has already done that once—she’s certain she can do it again.

Jasina and Finn left Tau City in ruins , vowing to end the Extractions by destroying every god’s tower. But the train line hides dark truths. Forgotten people cling to survival. Towers rise from the ruins of erased cities. And deep in the shadows, a godlike AI watches, weaving its own agenda.

Jasina has always been the strong one, the leader. But the train line holds secrets that cut deeper than she’s prepared for. Truths about spark. About the gods. About herself.

And Finn—the man burdened by his failures—is rising to find his strength.

But can Jasina ever fully trust him?

Godslayer is an epic, spicy, and angst-filled Romantasy that begs the question … how well do you really know your God? And how much are you willing to sacrifice to save him?

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

I am a sucker for a great fantasy book. And this is definitely one of them. I love this new world JA Huss has created. The audiobook reads like a movie in my mind and the voice actors bring these characters to life. I can actually SEE what's happening because it written so vividly. The narrators in this full cast audiobook are perfect.

I know there will be a few more books coming out and I can't wait for them. They are complex stories that take time and I'm sure it takes coordination for the audiobooks. I just want the entire story in my greedy hands now

I’m obsessed with these characters. Tyse & Clara our my absolute fav. I mean I like Finn and Jasina but Clara and Tyse have me completely hooked. I’ve been dying to see if Clara, Tyse, Finn and Jasina actually meet up and what reactions will they have. Both couples are in a fight for their lives in the Game of Gods and will do anything to survive. Just another amazing story and I’m dying to know what will happen in bk 3.

I received this Arc in exchange for an honest review

So I mistakenly missed the first book. And all the while I was reading this, and the characters kept referencing earlier incidents, I thought "what a wild way to tell a story!" I actually enjoyed that aspect of it so much, I did not go back and read the first one once I realized what happened. It was enough for me to know how it ended. This book is really, really "out there." Hyper fantasy and spiritual at the same time. Ultimately very pro women. And love triumphs over machine!

I love that never know where the story is going and I loved being surprised, its rare that I can feel immersed in a book enough to feel strong emotions about the characters and their choices so when I do , I know I've finally landed on a decent series that isn't just full of tropey tropeness & smut filler, this series seems great so far.
I reallt hope by book 3 Jasina will be yeeted out of existence & Finn will forget about her & forever chase Clara, I really hate that Finn & Jasina are planning a happily ever after right after they think Clara is killed off & they don't give another thought to her, also Finn just disregarding his 10 year relationship with Clara & telling Jasina it was just sex and he chooses her...no, just no, they dated since Jasina was 8 years old and now Jasina shows up on the scene barely legal & ready to warm Finns penis after she watches his fiance get thrown into the tower to be eaten & she thinks she deserves a happy ending? He'll no!
I really hope Jasina gets eaten or killed off, I cant get past her "other woman" vibes, feed that girl to the gods!!!
And Finn deserves lifelong suffering & pining after Clara for being such a spinless twat & moving on to the first warm body that showed interest.
Also, what happened to Eric Nolan on the audiobook? I fell in love with that mans voice on the first audiobook & was thrown when another man with the same accent took his place in this book, his voice definitely changed the character interestingly, eric nolan sounded like he was smiling as he narrated the entire first book which gave his character a more friendly vibe with banter & this new guy makes the character sound less friendly, a touch unlikeable, like it's a whole new person inhabiting Tyses character.
Anyway, this was a great book, im sad I have to wait for the rest of the series, this is one I want to binge.

Once again J.A. Huss blows my mind with the complexity of this romantasy story! Picking up right where book one, Sparktopia left off, we are front and center for the two very different journeys that Tyse and Clara, and Finn and Jasina embark on.

So much happens in this second installment in the Game of Gods series. I still can't wrap my head around some of it. As fantastical as the events were that occur throughout, Julie still manages to weave deeply intricate portrayals of all four main characters. Their thoughts, feelings, fears, desires, all woven throughout everything that was occurring around them at all times. Meanwhile, we got a deeper dive into the different cities along the train route, who their gods are, and what part they all play in the overall Game of Gods.

I was glued to this story, trying to soak up all the information that Julie was providing. I'm a very visual reader, I need to be able to visualize what I'm reading about and even though a lot of this story was way above my comprehension, Julie does a great job of helping me understand everything she was conveying on the pages. All I can say is, I hope this series makes it to the big screen because it would be amazing!

2.0

This one’s tough for me, I adore Julie, she’s been a favourite for years, and her earlier works, straight-up magic, But Godslayer… it just didn’t click.

After Sparktopia, I hoped book two would tie everything together and pull me deeper into Tau City’s spark-soaked dystopia, Julie’s world-building is still on point, so layered and well imagined, but despite the beautiful detail and solid narration, I found myself adrift.

It breaks my heart to say I had to DNF (Did Not Finish). Maybe it’s the sci-fi elements that aren't quite my jam. Maybe it’s the pacing or the way the story unfolds, I kept waiting to connect with the characters or get swept up in the momentum, but that spark (pun intended) never came.

The writing, gorgeous as always. The narration, no complaints, it’s full cast and well performed. But sometimes, no matter how good the pieces are, the overall package just doesn’t land for you, I guess this is a classic “it’s not you, it’s me” moment.

Julie will forever have a place on my shelf, and I’ll keep reading her work with hope and excitement, But for this series, I’ll be cheering from the sidelines.

I thought the audio book for the first book in this series, Sparktopia, was outstanding, but I can't think of a stronger superlative to describe Godslayer! The voice actors, aka narrators, Ava Erickson, Jill Redfield, Cj Mission, Will Watt and Gary Furlong, bring the characters and the entire story to life! Sparktopia introduced us to this new world, JA Huss created, and Godslayer thrusts newly revived augment, Tyse, and Clara straight into the game of gods, where there don't appear to be any rules. Meanwhile, Finn and Jasina, thought they were just on a mission to end Extractions along the train line, but suddenly find themselves maniputated by another god who's playing the game.
The narrators truly amp up the intensity this story deserves and took my enjoyment of this work of art to a whole new level! There's no way my imagination alone, if I were just reading the text, could have brought about the same result. Bravo Julie Huss!

Intense, frenetic, action-packed, Godslayer, the second book of the series, after Sparktopia. Fans of romantasy will love experiencing JA Huss' magical (no pun intended, lol). Godslayer follows both Tyse and Clara's and Finn and Jasinda's stories. The alternating chapters and points of view made for an exceptional and thrilling read. The unique world the author created felt vivid and palpable, I could imagine myself running along the characters. Breathtaking, truly.
What couple do. prefer? Impossible to say as each has their own dynamics and own voice. They definitely didnleft me unfeeling!
I absolutely love how we got answers and yet a whole new perspective in the story. Dark and gritty, this is a deep world way more hostile than I was expecting.
If you want to know who the Godslayer is, you need to read this one book.
I definitely can't wait to see the characters reunited!

I have to get into a headspace when I read a story in a totally new “world”. The tie-in with the Greek alphabet and technology and AI had me searching for some relationship to our world, because I’m just a geek girl at heart. But the feelings Tyse, Clara, Finn, and Jasina have is really all we share (I hope). And feelings run high throughout this tale, even in the fighting scenes they’re always partners. The storytelling is gripping and I felt so sad for these women being used and thrown away and the men for being knocked down so much. Where will these four lead us next? Gods beware, I’m ready for some retribution.

This is a quite the sci fi ride. It has imperfect characters and nonstop twists. It gets a little over the top at times but that’s kind of what makes it fun. The audio for this is great because it felt like I was in a movie the whole time. I also really love that JA Huss includes author’s notes at the end. They give some behind the scenes insight into the characters and honestly help things click into place for me. This definitely isn’t my favorite genre but this story has its hold on me. I need to know how the series will play out.

OMG, this book has it all. The continued world building, the multiple storylines, journeys and adventures, the characters - Tyse and Clara, Finn and Jasina, even Anneeta in the little note she gave Clara (love that cute, little spitfire of a Godling!). As always, JA Huss did not disappoint, and I enjoyed everything this book had to offer.
I read this with the audiobook, and I highly recommend it!
I'm so pumped to know there will be a book 3!

This world is unlike anything!

It is amazing. With a feeling of deserts and dystopia societies we learn about spark. Life, power, a drug, some people have it, everybody wants it. If you thought this story couldn't get any wilder after book one, hang on tight. What a wild ride. Skynet-like, power hungry gods. Augmented soldiers that want to take them out. Lies and truth revealed. So, dang good!

Epic Story, Sweeping Across Worlds

We find Tyse & Clara with the god Delta and gearing up to find Finn Scott and Jasina Bell to stop them blowing up the towers in all the worlds.

Tyse is keeping the actual truth from Clara about who they are actually going to stop and that Tyse knows that Finn has already moved on with a redheaded Jasina Bell.

Meanwhile Finn and Jasina are living it up in luxury in Xi’s tower city, blissfully unaware of what’s really happening.

Must read book one before this in order to follow this story.

Umm, wow

There are so many things to say about this book. But it all seems like a spoiler. So all I can say is "WOW" just wow. I am going to dread waiting for the next. I hate starting a book that is a TBC. But here I am because the first book was so good. Now I will go back into my book slump. 😒

Much quicker read this time.
Tells the story of what happens to each of the two couples. They are playing a game for the gods.Finn's character grows and becomes less arrogant in this book.
JA Huss at the end of the book gives a hint that there will likely need to be at least two more books in the series. Cannot believe that she wrote the first one in 4 months and this one in only 3 months.

What a wild, tragic ride…

Magic and technology combine to create trippy, sexy, terrifying, and just plain weird adventures. The author has created a truly unique world with a pantheon straight out of your nightmares.

This is a great book. The four stars is because it was a little dense for me. The writing was so descriptive I just wanted it to move along at more than a few points in the book. Overall, it’s a great story and I’m here for the entire series.

“Every Spark has its Purpose”

Godslayer (Game of Gods Book 2) Is like an amped up Isaac Asimov novel. JA Huss continues the story of these 4 main characters simultaneously in amazing form. In the words of JAHuss she can really “F****g plot a book” This story has a unique story line with science and fantasy intertwined. Morally grey heroes and kick *ss heroines, I can’t wait to see where this story goes!

This one was even more fun, and I started to really attach to some of the characters. Tyse grew on me, and I think he's changed a lot over the course of the story. Even Finn became less aggravating.

The action sequences were fun, and I liked the introduction of the evil gods. I'm a sucker for the sort of Mad Max setting that some of this book took place in, with the characters riding trains through a blasted wasteland.

The magic system also seemed more fleshed out. I enjoyed the ending, both Tyse and Finn finally meeting but too exhausted and battered to even care much. Looking forward to how they interact.
