The perfect addition to a perfect series, and just PERFECT for the festive season! Not a fluffy, floozy read by any means, there's so much heart and soul in this short story, leaning onto the darker side, it draws attention to the slimeballs that poison our environment, we all know they exist and at times like Xmas, prey on the vulnerable. Yeah, the weasels of society, or perhaps the ferrets....
Someone is targeting kids into stealing, using tactics that can only be described as abhorrent. Daphne, still reeling from WHAT she might be feeling for the Warlock, is just as distressed at his total silence, so when she's sent to aid a nine year old girl caught stealing, she puts her heart and soul into it. What she discovers leads her right back to the Alpha she's hiding from, avoiding at all costs, to one of his lackey's. In another fabulous Daphne read, "brain" Daphne and "heart" Daphne are at odds, again.... very comically....Who, too, is comical, is the Countess. Oh my word, she's a real tattoo laiden, drink chugging, no bars hold master of awesome! With a heart of gold....but best no one sees or acknowledges that fact! Between her and Dwayne, the chuckles are guaranteed throughout this book.
Ms Hignett must be a magical being, how else could she cast a spell over her reader, how else could she execute a story with so much depth in so few pages? How else could she portray characters that take up residence in one's heart? How else can she produce story after story that encompasses me wholly, that makes me laugh, that brings a tear to my eye, (yes, she did that too in one particularly emotional scene with Myf) Magic I say, no doubt about it! Fantastic characters, fantastic plot full of problem solving mystery, with a touch of darkness and a sprinkle of hope, I loved every second reading it! The last paragraph had me cooing and aww-ing with a warm fuzzy feeling right to my toes! Needless to say, I'm addicted to this series, I'm off to hound the author for more....
