The first novel of the Faces of Terror Trilogy is set around the Siege of Sidney Street and the fermenting anarchism of East London. The novel describes youth seduced by revolution through the characters Peter the Painter and Lydia Alexandrova, a young aristocrat who rebels against her class.
Like a John Le Carre thriller, but instead of British agents conspiring against Soviet Russia, here we have Latvian anarcho-communists agitating against Czarist Russia from their HQ-in-exile in Whitechapel.
Extremely well written book that takes you to pre first world war London. The characters come alive on the pages. Based on real events, now referred to as the Siege of Sydney Street. Excellent read.
