Sloan isn’t just a cookbook, she’s a living, breathing entity who has been trapped in her pages for over a century. Betrayed by the wrong man and bound by magic, Sloan dreams of breaking free and finding her happily ever after.
Chef Sebastian is always hunting for the next flavor to elevate his dishes. When he stumbles upon an ancient leather bound cookbook, he expects it to contain timeless recipes to dazzle his clients.
What he doesn’t expect is for the book to speak to him. Literally.
With Seb’s help, Sloan might finally have a chance to rewrite her story. But standing in their way is her evil, traveling book salesman ex, determined to keep her under his control. Together, they’ll have to fight to keep her free, they just have to stop banging first.

You can always guarantee you will have a fun time with a Holly Wilde book! I was instantly hooked on this magical book shifter book and how she found Seb! I didn't know whether to be hungry and hor- 👀😂 Take a walk on the wilde side with this one!
It's no surprise Holly nailed this. She does every time! This book is DELICIOUS. Your tummy and kitty will growl (and probably purr) while reading this one. I would very much like a hot chef to turn my pages pls and thank you.
Why am I shopping for cookbooks immediately after finishing this book? Honestly, this had no business being this hot. I’m not saying I want to fuck a book, but the way Seb caressed Sloan’s spine? The way he cherished her before he even knew she was more than a cookbook? The way he believed her and defended her without question? Yeah.
This is a quick, cream-filled delight! Absolutely satisfying, hilariously clever, and practically a masterpiece of wordplay, it’s packed with delicious food puns, and I devoured it like a five-star meal. I laughed so hard it triggered a coughing fit—totally worth it.
As someone with a background in culinary arts, the relatable elements resonated with me in a special way, but Holly’s witty and skillful writing is a treat for anyone. Whether it’s the relatable kitchen moments or the saucy banter, Holly serves up a delectable blend of humor and heart. The biggest surprise (and my favorite part) is that the heroine is the sentient object.
Though it’s a short, fast read, the story is surprisingly well-rounded. The plot and character backgrounds are seamlessly integrated into the narrative, making it feel complete even without extensive details. Despite its brevity, it never feels lacking or rushed, delivering just the right amount of depth and charm. It’s like a bite-sized dessert: small but oh-so-satisfying.
If you’re in the mood for a quick, laugh-out-loud, pun-filled palate cleanser of a book, this one is a chef’s kiss. Holly Wilde delivers a story that’s clever, heartwarming, and absolutely delicious. Bon appétit!
I should have known there would be food puns. I should have anticipated the cannoli and cream moment. And yet, each and every one was like a whole moment of is it going there? Oh, its gone there! It really goes there.
These books are silly fun, and I'm impressed at Holly Wilde's dedication to the sentient object cause in explicitly describing how one might go about penetrative action with a cookery book. I didn't think I had much innocence left, but that was a whole new thing for me and the visual will live on indefinitely. The charcters are cute (not you, Eddie), and the plot works, in an instalust food based action sort of way. A grand little pick me up of a read.
I read an advance copy of this book. My thoughts are very much my own.
omigosh i LOVED this!! i srsly ddnt know how she was goin to spin an edible book into a sentient object romance... & this was a 𝒔𝒎𝒂𝒔𝒉!! a genuinely delicious fairy tale of a magical book rescued by her chef charming with lots of...𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥🌽!! & xcellent food puns🤭 better stay out of this kitchen if u cant handle the heat!!
✨ part of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘖𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 & can be read as a standalone. this series is curated by some of our fave off-the-wall authors & is meant for readers 18 & over
I absolutely devoured this book! 5⭐️4🌶️ this is a delicious story of a woman doing everything in her power to escape the clutches of a rotten son of a biscuit. Ok i’ll leave the food puns up to Holly because this book screamed to my inner core. As a woman who loves food both for nourishment and bedroom play (and also married a chef), this is by far my favorite read of Holly Wilde! The story is well written and the spice will leave you craving more. The food puns were well placed and add the extra zest to send this over the top.
Favorite quote : “I’m an open book for you, so spread me wide and take me.”
“And trust me, sweetheart- I never leave a dish unfinished.” (Ahhhhhhh 🫠🫠🫠🫠)
I had a great time reading My Date With An Edible Book—except when Eddie was there, screw you, Eddie!
How do you make my little French heart skip a beat? Seeing the names of the dishes written in French—that’s how you get a monstrous craving for crème brûlée at 2 am.
Seb is an incredibly sweet character. He barely knows Sloan and is already willing to do anything for her, and poor Sloan really needs him after spending a century as a book, unable to transform because of that jer… because of Eddie.
I loved the humour and the puns in this book. It made me want to read more of Holly Wilde’s stories. I think I’m going to check out her already published books soon.
WARNING: Do NOT read this hungry. It will make you crave everything mentioned because each chapter name is a real-life dish, sensual description and ingredients included.
This book is utterly hilarious. If you’ve been waiting to read the words “Hey! You get your d*ck out of my book!” wait no longer.
Other notable phrases: ‘waiting for my baby batter to climb up and bake in her womb.’— ma’am, that’s Booksta-jail for you 💀 ‘sinking my entire banana into her sundae.’—🙂↔️🙅🏻♀️🙂↔️ ‘He pipes his cream into my cannoli shell.’—😖🥲
It’s only 69 (noice) pages and full of food puns that will make you laugh and cringe at the same time.
This book was everything I thought it was going to be AND MORE!
Honestly Holly Wilde kills it every damn time, at this point I think it’s impossible for Holly to write a book I won’t devour. I did really enjoy the magic aspect and all the puns had me laughing like a crazy woman 😂, oh and Eddie got what he deserved.
I can’t wait to put together my favourite quotes for a post 😂. This may be my new favourite Holly Wilde read 🤔 If unhinged reads are your thing definitely read this, you won’t be disappointed!
Utterly delicious! A story of magic, deception, true love, and food porn. What more could you ask for? The cherry on top is the puns. ALL THE PUNS. Food puns. Book puns. Smut puns. Truly deserves a chef's kiss from both heads. And now, I'm hungry. Couldn't ask for a better collective of amazing authors, cumming together to delight us all and help us celebrate the best holidays of the year in the most appropriate way. With smut. Holly, forever out here keeping me Wilde.
Holly Wilde never disappoints when it comes to the 'sentient object' category. She has this really fun ability to write something so bizarre and brain rattling. Yet, for a second, you can almost forget that the love interest is a random thing you'd find lying around your house, and it just reads like an incredible smut novella filled with some of the best dad jokes you've ever heard.
Sloan, a book shifter gets trapped by a shady asshole who uses her magic for his own personal gain. She is rescued by a chef, Seb, and things get hot in the kitchen. He helps free her from the evil Eddie and he wishes for her happiness. Hot and sweet like a fresh cream-filled cake from the oven and damn was it fun to read. I loved this one. I don't think I can watch a baking show with a straight face for a while though.
Every once in a while, you come across a villain you just want to punch in the fictional face so, so bad…..but at least in romance you can trust they get their just desserts.
The heat between Sloan and Seb was top notch and I liked the deeper note of these two rediscovering what brings them joy in life.
This book was sweet, spicy, and wonderfully punny. I’ll take Himalayan salt pink over rosebud any day.
3.5 stars - Another wild ride with Holly Wilde! I gotta give it to her, when it comes to creativity - there is no one quite like her, and I especially thought this story was very original. There obviously isn't a lot of plot, nor are the characters particularly fleshed out, but she always grabs me and I always have fun! This is definitely a good palate cleanser in between books, AND there's even some hilarious food puns to keep you giggling, so I do still recommend if you like this genre!
"I no longer wish for someone to come save me. I wish for the strength to save myself."
Holly did not have to make have more love for books then I already do but she did! She managed to make me love and care about a magical cookbook. Her and her chef lover were too sweet for words. And Sloan definitely had plenty of words and puns to say! And together these 2 dish up the perfect revenge for the awful antagonist.
I received an advanced copy, and this is my honest review.
So many food puns! Like you go in expecting them but damn they take yoy by suprise. I haven't laughed that hard in a while over a book. Somehow, all the food puns made it work. And the completely unbelievable world Holly has created. A touch of dark and a touch of weird this is the perfect brain rot book.
HOLLY IS THE QUEEN OF SENTIENT BOOKS! I swallowed this book whole as fast as possible like I was starving for the next page! This magical cookbook will take you on a journey between Hungry and h*rny all while you're laughing! Magic, deception, love, and food p*rn...name a better combination! The food puns alone were enough to keep me reading!
NOBODY does it better than Holly Wilde. The puns are always top tier. I have so many new ones in my back pocket to use on my husband now, he doesn’t even know what’s coming.
I liked the magic component, each chapter had title that pertained to a dish that sounded insanely good which I enjoyed as well. The characters were developed well for such a short story too.
This book is utterly "delicious!" It is a delightful blend of magic, deception, true love, and mouthwatering descriptions of food, it has everything you could desire. And let's not forget the puns – food puns, book puns, smut puns galore! They were truly chef's kiss worthy.
(Some puns not so much but I was able to over look them for the sake of what this book is and what it was about) 😂
OMG Holly did it again. I love this story. The twists and turns, lol. If u need a pallet cleaner, this is the book for you. Just the right amount of spice. It had me tearing up at one point. If i can pull it off i think i just found this year halloween custom
Well cream my cannelloni this book is so good I was sad to finish it. What a great story of infatuation, betrayal, hope and love all wrapped up in sweet pastry package. I mean whats not to love about magic, love, a bit of cannibalism and some hot spice
Holly has done it again! I had no idea what to expect with an edible book but like always I was laughing and enjoying this pun filled book! It was the most delicious edition to the sentient object holiday series!
Okay I was really enjoying this story until the last like 25%. Bookussy? Baby batter? Cannoli shell? I can get behind a couple story related puns, but we can do better than that lol. I did like the magical aspects though.
Getting a little hot in the kitchen with this shape shifting magical cookbook. Recommend to sentient object romance readers or those who want to dip their toes in the water.
So happy I got to read this early, true Holly weirdness and I love it! I was so gutted for sloan but loved where this little story went and will forever crack up when ever I hear bookussy now haha!
