Note: I illustrated this book, but since I didn't write it, I think I can review it without being too tacky. ;D

This is a beautiful book of stories written by a woman whose faith in Jesus is as clear as her love for children. There are seven short stories and one novellette as the finale, and each one follows a different character, though there is a bit of crossover with some of them!

The stories--parables, as the title suggests--do a great job of discussing important concepts in life from a Biblical perspective. And Mrs. Anderson doesn't pull punches! This book, and its predecessor Pat's Parables Volume 1, tackles big issues like the process of salvation, sanctification, anxiety, and even wisdom in marriage! All of it is done in such a way that young children can understand. Adults who'v experienced these stories have expressed high approval as well. They are poignant and memorable, and have a sort of humor and charm that is distinct to the author.

Pat's Parables Volume 2 works well whether you're reading aloud to your own children or grand children, or even to a class of fifth graders (which I've done, by the way, as a librarian! They were laughing out loud at Billy Bunny's story). It's also quite attractive to kids for their own personal reading; my second-graders couldn't wait to get a hold of it, but the fifth graders beat them to it. The text is well-spaced and easy to read, and the vocabulary is very accessible while having enough class to elevate the minds of children who decide to read it.

The book also works really well as a tool for Sunday school teachers or children's church leaders! I've used it in ministry, and I know others who do as well, and we all agree that it's effective. We can see the results from reading the book, and even without the book (some of these stories have been around upwards of 30 years before they were published), the parables have a way of sticking in a person's mind for years in a very positive way.

I highly recommend this book: it's a great addition to the world of children's literature, and an excellent contribution to the ministry of Jesus's Gospel.
