Red's Beast

Rate this book
In the small wolf shifter village of Dark Moon, a mysterious beast haunts the woods. Lillian lost her parents to the dangerous creature, but she’s twenty-four now.

She's too old to be afraid. Too determined to be subdued, even by the pack bullies. And too powerful to be tamed.. and therein lies the problem.

When Lillian's emerging alpha wolf abilities are discovered, they made her even more of a target, especially for the alpha family who would love for her to mate with their son, the biggest bully of them all, for the good of the pack.

Slipping on her red hooded cape and running into the woods to her grandmother’s cabin seems her best chance of figuring out an escape- or even getting a little good advice. But grandmother holds secrets of her own, and the massive cursed wolf lurking in the forest’s shadows has his own agenda, one that could put them all in danger.

But what if the supernatural beast isn’t truly a monster? What if he’s secretly her fated mate? Duty and destiny tug at her heart and mind as Lillian has to make a decision — pursue this strange connection she feels for a monstrous wolf she knows nothing about or accept the will of the pack and resign herself to a life of torment to save her grandmother.

The wrong choice could doom the only family she had left or ruin her chance at true love.

Enter a world of reimagined fairy tales, paranormal pack relationships, and a protective wolf in the woods who might be more than he seems.

"Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? Surely not I."

Imagine a Red Riding Hood fairytale retelling that also has Beauty and the Beast vibes featuring a beast who has been cursed by a witch. I present to you, Red’s Beast by Tasha Creed! Y’all know I’m a sucker for fairytale retellings! ❤️‍🔥

A mysterious beast haunts the woods, instilling fear and sparking suspicions among the village folks. The village blames the beast for the frequent disappearances of their loved ones although no one has ever actually seen him take them. 🔪🩸Lillian senses the beast watching her, feels him following her each day as she makes the trek to her grandmother’s cottage…. 👀 And yet, he has never harmed her. Lillian begins to realize she feels a deep pull toward him that she can’t shake.

As Lillian explores her connection to the cursed beast, she struggles with her destiny. Pursuing this new connection with the beast could endanger her grandmother’s safety, yet the thought of being trapped in an arranged marriage with the Alpha heir makes her sick.

As the beast lurks among the shadows of the forest watching Lillian from day to day, he begins to grow a deep affection and sense of protection toward her that he can’t explain. Could she be the one to break the curse?

Lillian must choose between what she feels is her duty and what is her destiny.

ARC Review

This book is the combined edition of Red and Beast, so originally it was two books.

Lillian has a hard choice to make. She either has to stay abused with Corbin or be with the beast out in the woods, who is cursed and can't even leave. The thing is, she doesn't know really what to do because she wants to take over the pack, which belonged to her grandfather before Corbin's father took over and took him out. She truly just wants to do what is right, but this all leads back into that choice I mentioned.

To accept the beast and what she feels would be dire. She thinks they'll kill her grandmother, who is her only family. So she leans more to staying in the pack, accepting Corbin as hers, and that way she can regain what she feels was taken away from her family. But that means accepting the abuse.

Lillian has a victim mentality. She stays, because she thinks she has to and that she's obligated. When she seeks guidance from the one woman who should help her, she is often left with more questions than answers, but that is because Grandmother is cursed and can't tell her. It has to be Lillian's choice - which she tries to tell her multiple times. Of course, that gets easier as Lillian figures things out for herself because then her grandmother can tell her yes or no.

Of course, Lillian doesn't act like an alpha, but she also had to hide it because of what it could mean should the new alphas find out. It's a hard habit to break as well when she is so used to having to keep it hidden and not being one.

Her shifting had also been hidden and only came out on the night the beast broke into her house - no one saw it though. Her powers are very fickle and don't come out when she wants them to. This just makes it harder on her.

Don't even get me started when she shifts for the challenge to save her grandmother. Like they finally work, but then she has to submit or they'll end her grandmother.

There are crumbs, and foreshadowing dangled throughout the book. Nothing is revealed instantly, but it is wrapped up in a sweet little bow at the end, where she finally finds her happily ever after. She just has to survive the nightmare first.

I'm really excited because I know in the second book, it is Corbin BUT there is a cute holiday novella of Lillian and her beast at the end.

A captivating blend of mystery, magic, and romance, *Red’s Beast* takes readers on a journey where deception clouds the truth, and a young girl must summon the courage to follow her heart amidst the confusion.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot is engaging from start to finish. As I read, I felt fully immersed in the different worlds created by the author.

Mystery, magic, and love. When tales are made of deceit, when a young girl has to decide what is truth and what is lies and have the courage to follow her heart. All works out in the end.
Loved this book. It has well-defined characters and a great storyline. I was transported to the different worlds as I read.

Overall 3.5

Tasha Creed is newish to me. I read a short story by her in an anthology and loved it, so I decided to give her retelling a try.

I found Red's Beast to be an okay read. I loved the Little Red Riding Hood influence, and adding shifters into the mix made it even better. I also enjoyed the bit of mystery with the Beast in the woods and the undercurrent of something else going on in the background. There's a fair amount of history and a big mystery that doesn't puzzle out until the very end.

Unfortunately, the story went on for too long, and the scenes needed to be edited down. There was some repetitiveness with very little new insight. Also, the characters did a lot of flip-flopping, which became aggravating at a certain point. I mostly enjoyed the story; mixing LRRH with shifters was a brilliant idea.

When I first started this book I thought it was going to just be your average little red riding hood retelling and I have never been so happy to be proved wrong. There is so much more! From wolf shifters to witches and curses to fated mates, this book kept me on the edge of my seat!
Lily's character growth made me feel like a proud mom watching their kid become strong and independent.
There were a few times where I wanted to grab her and yell at her and be like what are you doing?!! But at the same time I get where she was coming from. She had a lot of trauma from abu$e she endured. A big part of the story is her internal struggle to do what makes her happy versus just take the easy route and make everyone else happy regardless of what she would loose. I feel Tasha did such an amazing job with how she played out the struggle. I myself am a people pleaser and it took so long for me to realize that I have to prioritize myself before others.
Some people may not like that the FMC is like that but I found it so refreshing to see a FMC that didn't have everything figured out and that seemed more human and relatable. Eventually Lily realizes that she has to stand up for herself and take charge to get what she wants and I was so excited when it happened. She is fiesty and a total baddie.
The plot had many twists I didn't see coming!
The ending of the story had me so giddy and I cannot wait to read more of Tasha's work! This book was amazing and if you decide to try it out make sure to check out the trigger warnings before starting, some parts can get a little dark.

I’ve read the original copies of this book before it was relaunched by the author. I loved how Book 1 Red and Book 2 Beast have now been combined into one book, and flowed smoothly into one solid book, and not miss a beat. It is still a retelling of Red Riding Hood with Beauty and The Beast Vibes. Still an amazing book and well written, the characters are still believable and some are not so likeable as they were in the originals.
I received a complimentary ARC of the book from the author for a fair and honest review.

This is such a great book. It’s is a little red riding hood with a side beauty and the beast vibes book. I enjoys the dynamics between the characters, the pull between the potential of two mates (while there can only be one) and the struggle to find oneself and her wolf. Meanwhile, all the secrecy and riddles being told that we get to help unravel throughout the story.

I usually do not read retelling of story tale's they don’t interest me at all. BUT, I loved this book, it’s a great read. The book moves smoothly and ends great. I’m an avid reader, watching very little TV. I am very picky about the books I read, so to say I liked this book is surprising. I plan on reading more of this author’s books.

An engaging read that I enjoyed. For me this gave off Red Riding Hood crossed with Beauty and the Beast vibes and it's done well. It's an excellent story too. The suspense, action, twists, and reveals just kept coming in this. It is a page turner too. Overall, I liked this book.

Fairytale retelling and it’s fantastic!! There a lot of little Red Riding Hood and little Beast in this combined remake. This is a great story that I would gladly recommend for fantasy readers. The question Do I follow my heart? Or do I follow my duty? The writing is good and the story flows well to keep you turning the pages well into the night.

Alphas

Lillian, an alpha with blocked powers, seems docile and obeying. The ruling alpha has made her the maid for him and the pack. Lillian is treated horribly but senses she will have her revenge such a sweet word. Lillian lives in the village and visits her grandmother in the forest, where the beasts lives as well. Lillian learns a lot about her heritage but has questions about the blanks no one can fill in for her. It was a very good read and now on to book 2.

Loved this retelling of little red riding hood but they are all wolves

A lot of things are not as they seem in this story and I enjoyed watching everything unravel

Both main characters were loveable and I easily rooted for them

Look forward to reading more in the series

I really really wanted to love this book! It started off so strong, but there were so many points I wanted to put the book down!

I just couldn’t relate with Lily I understood her struggles and being bullied. One of my favorite tropes is bully romance and dark. This isn’t your typical bully romance trope though. Lily has a fated mate, they are all cursed in some way and this girl gave me freaking whiplash! Corbin who is one of the bullies has way too much book time! You never get to see her connect with the beast.

There was also a lot of things repeated. If the book had been two books I might have understood needing some refreshing, but it happens more than just a few times. I felt myself skipping a lot of pages. Facts were messed up. I don’t know why that drives me crazy typos I can normally skip over but when giant facts like the pact seeing her wolf already bc she had shifted twice! Once with the beast and once at the challenge so when she shifted more towards the end the pack acted like they had never seen her wolf. I wanted to throw my phone. There were others but seriously those are facts that should have been caught!

Ok so I did finish the book. It has witches, and wolves, and a giant backstory. Did I ever connect with the Lily NO! She is an alpha female that seriously didn’t act like one. Did I feel like the story had too much filler yes. Specially when it came to Lily and Corbin!

I am sad I was really looking forward to reading this one.

If you’re looking for a gripping tale that beautifully intertwines darkness, destiny, and the struggle for self-identity, *Red's Beast* is a must-read! In the eerie village of Dark Moon, we meet Lily, a young woman grappling with her past and her shocking alpha abilities. The story kicks off with a chilling premise—an unseen beast lurking in the woods, surrounded by whispers and fear, especially from the village alpha who wants to control her fate.

Tasha Creed masterfully crafts a world where every shadow holds a secret. Lily's backstory is poignant and relatable; losing her parents to the beast and enduring abuse from the very people who should protect her creates a backdrop of tension that keeps you turning the pages. The stakes are high, and you can’t help but root for Lily as she navigates through forced obligations and her own fierce desire for independence.

The depth of the beast, who is both terrifying and tragically misunderstood, adds an enchanting layer to the narrative. Their connection is electric, filled with intensity and yearning, making you question what true love looks like when mixed with centuries-old curses and personal sacrifice. I found myself captivated by the question of destiny versus obligation—will Lily follow her heart or succumb to the expectations of her past?

Creed doesn't shy away from difficult topics, which enriches the story, but be warned—some scenes are quite intense and might not be suitable for all readers. However, these elements are woven into the plot to enhance the emotional gravity rather than merely shock.

In summary, *Red's Beast* is a beautifully dark yet hopeful tale about finding your path amidst chaos. The characters are richly developed. If you enjoy stories with strong women, complex relationships, and a hint of the supernatural, dive into this one! 🌟✨

Red’s Beast is the first book in the Dark Enchantments series. While this series does not contain spice or cursing, it does have content that may be triggering for some so please ensure you check the trigger warnings before starting. Lillian is the outcast of her pack as she is not able to shift and doesn’t understand why. Being the outcast, even though she is from the family line of the former pack leader, she is treated as the lowest of the low and forced to clean after the current pack leader and his son. The only enjoyment she has is when she visits her grandmother even though she has to go into the woods where the beast resides and kills everyone who enters the woods. Lucian was cursed 200 years ago to forever remain a beast unless he is able to break the curse however he isn’t able to shift or communicate to do so. Until Lillian. Hoping she is the key to breaking his curse when he realizes she is his fated mate, he starts making his presence known to her by speaking in her mind, among other things. After some bizarre events happen, Lillian starts questioning things that others don’t want her to know about. Will Lillian figure out the truth and make the right choice? Fantastic start to the series and can’t wait to see what comes next! I received this directly from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

This book was hard for me to not DNF.

I cringed at all the bullying and Lily just taking it. The grossness which never got explained. She has a fated mate, they are all cursed in some way, yet the story really focused on Corbin who is one of the bullies! There are little snipits of the fated mates stuff, but it is so heavy on the cringy stuff.

There was also a lot of repeating. Chapter after chapter. Sometimes it was verbatim. Then there was the fact that the author was messing up the facts. Like This is her first shift...yet it wasn't. Things like that. That had happened, yet she over and over had "firsts" happen multiple times. That drives me crazy.
As a reader who was reading this book super fast, skimming pages of repeats I could have easily written down "fix this" "this already happened" Did she have an editor?
There was a lot of foreshadowing that didn't get resolved and the author said it would resolve in her next books...I just can not read any more of this type of writing.

I really didn't like this book. However, if you are looking for a clean (no sex, no swearing, some violence) "fantasy" re-tellling of Little Red Riding Hood. And don't mind sub par writing and editing, this is one of those.

Dark Little Red Riding Hood x Beauty and the Beast retelling. This is a slowwwwwburn story that takes you through all the pains and struggles of a young wolf shifter facing the consequences of mysterious ancient curses. She is trapped in a life she doesn’t love, and has very little hope of getting out of it. Between her indecisive nature and the people in her life trying to make her choices for her, there is a lot of drama and a lot of back and forth along the way. By the end, you will feel like you earned that HEA right along with Lilian. You gets lots of touch her and ☠️ moments and Cinderella feels along the way. You will love Lillian’s sassy inner wolf! A good deal of time is spent on world building for histories and characters. This feels like two books in one, and I believe it is a combo of books one and two originally published.

Oh man. I was so sold on a dark retelling of red riding hood where she ends up with the big bad wolf but I just couldn’t get into this one.

I don’t relate to Lillian, her grandmother apparently loves her but her actions really do not relay this. Even the beast is so easy to anger and ignore her when she doesn’t act like he wants her to even though he can’t tell her anything…

This is very villain focused. Corbin gets a lot of book time and he’s the epitome of a spoilt brat.

I can’t get into the writing style. I gave it a good crack but once the big reveal happened with the witch and I wasn’t into it I’ve decided I won’t enjoy the rest of it either.

I appreciate the author for allowing me to read this as an ARC. This is my honest opinion.

RED AND HER BEAST

A different take on the story of Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf. With the all the aspects you would expect, Grandma, the red cloak and a wolf to scare our female main character and the cottage in the woods, what adds a little extra are age old curses, witches, hidden identities and a love that crosses realms. There were times I was upset with the indecision of the main characters and wanted them to fully embrace their destinies and true love but the author had a plan and it came together beautifully with twists and turns like a rollercoaster but full of angst and intrigue. A book full of detail, character development and emotion, recommend to anyone who likes to read fairy tale retellings with a twist.

Red's Beast by Tasha Creed 🩸

Little Red Riding Hood meets Beauty in the Beast. If you love fairytale retellings you should definitely read this one. There was a lot of suspense and twists and turns that kept me wanting more. Wolves, fated mates, witches, shall I say more?

I loved the character development especially Lily. So many people can relate to her and her internal struggles. There was a little repetitiveness where sometimes I just wanted to get to the next part of the story but once we got there I was back engaged in the story.

The beast in the woods. Is he real. It sure sounds like it. Lillian hears him every time she goes to her grandmother's house. She hears his growls. He knows her, sees her yet she can't see him. They tell her he's not real. But she knows he is. What does he want with her? She fears him yet why is she drawn to him. So many secrets. To many lies. Who does she believe. Full of twists , turns and suspense to keep you turning the pages for more. A great book by an awesome author . I will be reading more by Tasha Creed.

I liked this! It's Lilly's story & she has some tough choices to make. When she finally shifts it's in very difficult circumstances. It's had to be hidden away for a long time & the beast after she shifts knows that she's his fated mate. There's a lot going on here. This was 2 separate books at one time & has been combined for this one. I loved the storyline & can't wait until the next one! Highly recommend this book & author!

Little red riding hood retailing. The main FMC drove me crazy with her back and forth on making a decision on should she mate with the alpha’s son or be with her fated mate. To me there is only one clear choice. The beast deserves the world after what he has been through and I can’t say that enough.
