From the author who brought you Crown of Roses, come the the second thrilling second installment of the Faeven Saga... For Maeve Ruhdneah, being blessed with the soul of a goddess comes with a price. Now, war is on the horizon and she finds herself relying on the callous High King of Summer, Tiernan Velless, to help her control the magic in her blood. Yet as tension and temptation surge between them, she’s torn between wanting to stab him in the chest or tumble into his bed.
But the High King of Summer carries a secret from his past, one that promises loss and death. With Parisa’s dark magic on the rise and unrest growing in the Autumn Court, Tiernan and Maeve must fight to protect everything they love or risk losing it all. Including each other.
Because if one thing is for certain, the fates are not always kind.
Crown of Roses is good, but Throne of Dreams is even better. I love everything about this book.
Hillary did an amazing job of exploring Maeve’s struggles with feelings of guilt, loss, and fear. Her anxiety and PTSD come through in her interactions with not only others, but how she internally grapples with her new found power.
Then there is Tiernan. I love him. He’s strong, powerful, and just an ass when he needs to be. I loved watch him interact with Maeve and support her, even when she didn’t think he was. He’s a MMC with witty banter and a cinnamon roll center. Perfection.
The other characters. I love them. The side characters truly do fill our this tale. They add humor, complexity and just overall stand as a the voice of reason when the MCs are being ridiculous.
The plot moves along well, with this faerie world growing more sinister as Maeve meets those who would attempt to kill her or steal her power. And…wtf was that ending Hillary? I saw it coming to second before it happened and just couldn’t stop from gasping out loud when I read the final lines.
✨My Thoughts ✨ I have absolutely fallen in love with this series. It truly deserves more hype. I truly loved watching Maeve grow. She went through some emotional stuff in book one. To see her grow and gain confidence was great. I absolutely loved the sibling relationships in the book. I am also a sucker for found family trope. Also Tiernan is so dang hot. To see him have some tender moments was great too. The last few chapters had my heart beating so fast. My jaw dropped when reading the last line of the book. I can't wait for book three.
Throne of Dreams is book 2 in the Faeven Saga. Recommend for 18+. As always please check trigger warnings before reading. I really can't recommend this one enough.
On the one hand, it was very readable and engaging. On the other hand, there are too many stupid decisions happening, or bizarre lore around Meave's powers.
She literally has the power of creation and has almost unlimited power. Yet this seems to only come into play when it suits whatever direction the author wants the story to go in, rather than being a consistent thing, which is quite maddening at various points in the book, which drew me out of the story.
I really like her and Tiernan, but I feel like their enemies to lovers resolved a bit too quickly for my liking. Also, I am a loather of love triangles and the very ending of this book better not be putting that back in the story!
All in all this is a good, if somewhat frustrating read.
I absolutely adored this next instalment of The Faeven Saga. We continue with Maeve who is now training with the high king of Summer to learn to use and control her new powers. While the war with Parisa and the dark fae is still brooding, Maeve must learn who she is and where she belongs.
Boy did this book deliver. I feel like it was almost a few stories in one as there was so much going on and too discover. We learn more about the world of Faeven and the different creatures who live there as well as delving deeper into the characters of the inner circle of the summer court.
The spice gets turned up a lot in this book (dare I say some even seemed over done 🫣). But this does not give way to some epic plot building.
Again we end on a cliffhanger and Omg I am already dying for the next book to come out.
Readers of ACOTAR need to give this series a go, you won’t regret it.
Also once you read it I need to know, who do you think is in the library!!!
“You are not broken. You are the pieces of everything good and beautiful in this world. You’ve just yet to see it.” This was such a fantastic continuation of Maeve’s story! The relationship building in this books is phenomenal and I loved getting to see her build her family after everything she went through in the first book. The ending has me already dying for the next book!
I was fortunate to receive an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review… Overall rating 4.75⭐️ Woooooooow and ahhhhhh are all i can say right now. This story just keeps getting better and better, Maeve gets more bad @ss, Tiernan gets yummier with every page, and I would get on my knees for Lir. The only reason I couldn’t rate it five stars was that there was some training sequences which I am personally not a fan of. This book made me cry and scream and I CAN NOT wait for book 3. That ending…. HILLARY YOU B!tch!
This ending had me a lil gagged I won’t lie. I wish it would’ve gotten off to a slower start since I normally love my slow burns, but I have to say I’m INTRIGUED by Aed and I’m kind of nervous about who turned up in the end. There also were a few scenes/themes that felt a little too similar to SJM books at times (esp chapter 29), but I couldn’t decide if it bothered me or if I liked it. I’m having a blast reading these regardless & literally an in love with these characters.
"The fates were cruel, she decided. It seemed unfair that she would be forced to choose between loving the one taken from her and loving the one destined for her. Whatever the gods and goddesses had planned, whatever was written in the stars, was more of a punishment than anything else."
Throne of Dreams picks right up where Crown of Roses ended, leaving minimal time gaps for the reader. Maeve must work on her journey of where she belongs, where her heart belongs, and how she can save the realms - if at all. Enjoy this Dual POV of Maeve and Tiernan!
Tropes Include: Enemies to Lovers Touch her and Die Fated Mates Found Family Chosen One Hidden Truth Cursed - Dark Secret Fantasy Shifters First Time
TW: Death of a family member Torture Murder Sexual Assault/Attempted Rape
Spicy rating: 2.75/5 Sadness rating: 3/5
*ARC reader - honest review*
I really enjoyed Crown of Roses, but I liked Throne of Dreams much better! The unexpected jaw dropping sassy one liners, the ride of emotional situations, the realism of the arguments and banter that take place between the characters, and the internal struggles of the FMC that show she is flawed and makes mistakes - really set this book up well! I have been a big proponent of Team Rowan, but Tiernan almost, *almost* has me convinced. If you're looking for groveling from that beautiful gorgeous broody High King of Summer, this comes in spurts throughout instead of one long profession of love. I also really love the songs created in this series - prophecies and feelings and love adoration in one. Overall, would recommend! If you thought Crown of Roses gave Throne of Glass + ACOTAR vibes, this book spirals off into a different direction, making them truly distinctive stories.
Okay so I read this whole series in a week and waited until the end to write this so they’re all running together. Was this series perfect? No. Did I immediately want to read it again because I missed the characters and wanted to put things together in more detail? Yes.
Maeve got in my nerves throughout the whole series but she’s also a badass and super resilient so I was torn. She often acted like a petulant child who wanted to do things her own way (much like my 5 year old…) but I also acknowledge she had hella trauma and background info that made her that way.
Tiernan. We love a protective MMC who falls fast and hard. I love that we got his POV in books 2-4. I really didn’t like how he treated her in book 1 (and he addresses that in this book) but he redeems himself over and over again.
The relationship between Maeve and Tiernan evolves fast - by about the 25% mark in this book. But their relationship isn’t without obstacles. Be warned there is some miscommunicated other woman drama in this book but it isn’t what you think.
Overall this is a series I would highly recommend for anyone who wants an easy to read series with the usual romantasy tropes. Also, it does end on a cliffy. Be prepared and ready to jump into the next book.
🗣️ “I said I care.”
Sparks flickered at her fingertips and cinnamon smoke surrounded them. She demanded an answer of him. “Why?”
“Because you are mine.”
🗣️ “You are the sun within my storm. The star in my eternal night and the glowing ember of my soul. And I will cherish you until the fates decide I am no longer worthy of the dawn.”
🗣️ “You are not broken. You are the pieces of everything good and beautiful in this world. You’ve just yet to see it.”
I was fortunate to receive an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review and this DID NOT DISAPPOINT.
We picked right back up where we left off at the end of Crown of Roses. Hillary dropped subtle reminders about important details to help us readers connect the dots. She does this in an informative but not too obvious way.
Favorite aspects of Throne of Dreams: - sibling relationships 🥹🥹🥹 - 🌶️🌶️ content - small intimate romantic gestures - unwavering friendships / inner circle - lots of action and badassery
The cliffhanger has me desperate for the next book.
I would like to thank the author for e-ARC opportunity in exchange for an honest review of the book.
My rating is closer to a 4.5 .
I might just be obsessed. I had such a fantastic time with this and I might have shed a few tears here and there.
I adored the last book and immediately had to jump into this one. I can say with confidence that this one was my favorite of the two. The world building and use of magic was much richer here. The relationships between all of our characters were developed and everything about this second book just checked a lot of my book boxes. We begin to see more of the use of magic and understanding court politics which have now become central to Maeve after the discoveries of the last book.
I really appreciate the development that Maeve got and seeing her step into her power was amazing to see. The poor girl has honestly been through unfathomable things and so to see her stand above it all is incredibly inspiring. I am also a huge fan of the relationships that she has made with those from Tiernan's court. They have all come to care for one another and it honestly warms my heart. My favorite relationships are the two that we begin to see her have with her brothers. I am an advocate for sibling wholesomeness and I am happy that Hillary delivered on that end.
Let me start off by saying, that I am undeniably biased with this one because I was team Tiernan from the minute he was introduced. Thus, all of the sweet and tender moments that we get between him and Maeve were everything to me. The things this High King would say to her had me swooning and blushing simultaneously. I would also like to take a moment to share my appreciation of the use of the old language. I am a SUCKER for terms of endearment and anything else in another language. Thus every time Tiernan would say Astora or Moh Rienna, I could not help but squeal. Moreover, although the book is full of spicy scenes (which were great), what really sold the romantic relationship was the attentiveness and belief that Tiernan had in Maeve. All of the aforementioned makes it difficult not to love Tiernan and I hope to see more of his sweetness and dedication in book 3.
The way that this book ended was kind of cruel and I am very much in need of book 3 as soon as possible. I still have so many lingering questions that need answers and I hope that the next installment in the series delivers. I would definitely recommend this to fans of Fantasy Romance, fated mates, spice, and Irish folklore.
“You are not broken. You are the pieces of everything good and beautiful in this world. You’ve just yet to see it.”
The way this book tore my heart out and pulverized it, but yet gave it back to me with a little bow and tried to make it better with some happy thoughts…should tell you everything you need to know. But in case you’re still wondering if this is a good read?
HELL. YES.
The characters in this series have grown both personally and in their relationships. There’s new drama, new danger, and new sass! We all know how much I love the sass.
Yet again, Hillary hit the nail on the head, and I am forever in love with Tiernan (even if he makes me want to smack him sometimes).
Maeve’s strength and resilience is everything I’ve ever hoped to have, her cunning and bravery is brilliant, and her mouth is top tier sarcasm and sass always.
I laughed, cried, got mad, got happy, and repeated the process. I’m so glad I’ve got the ARC of Realm of Nightmares (and even if I didn’t, it comes out in just a week) so that I don’t have to wait to keep reading.
Wow. This book was so much fun! The perfect amount of adventure and romance. We uncovered more secrets and learned some interesting information.
Maeve does what she wants. And I love this about her. She is so strong and fearless and protects everyone. I just love Maeve.
Yes, Tiernan. I won't say more because of spoilers... but yes. And I loved getting his POV! Loved getting into his mind.
I enjoy the relationship between Tiernan and Ceridwen. Also Ceridwen's gentleness and kindness she has with Maeve.
Ahhhh Lir and his secrets. Love it. And love the friendship he has with Maeve. So protective and yet seeing him open up to her is the sweetest thing.
Merrick is still one of my favorites. Saying what everyone else is thinking. Sometime his comic relief is much needed. And I often agreed with him out loud while reading.
Also that ending! I had to start Realm of Nightmares, right away.
A big thank you to the author for sending me this ARC !
3.5⭐ “You are not broken, astora.” “You must first collect all the pieces of you—new and old. Shards of who you were, what you lost. Your childhood. Your humanity. Friends. Then focus on the fragments of who you are now, what you’ve gained. Magic. A family, Someone who would destroy the world for you.”
“You are not broken. You are the pieces of everything good and beautiful in this world. You’ve just yet to see it.”
This is book 2 in The Faeven saga series , we got to see Maeve's journey through grief , love and friendship, I enjoyed it for the most part , especially her bonding with her siblings and the easy dynamics of the summer court royal gang , I'll be looking forward to the next book in hopes of seeing more of my favorite secondary characters and their backgrounds
While book one lays the foundation for book 2, Throne of Dreams hooks the reader into the saga and its characters. If romance or fiction is a genre you enjoy but you have a hard time with fantasy, this book is for you. Hillary straddles the line between romance and fantasy well. The fantasy side of the book keeps you interested with plot lines that intertwine nicely and are not over complicated. The romance side of the book definitely keeps the steam up as you find yourself becoming invested in the characters. You can tell Hillary (the author) really came into her own with book two. She is brave and courageous in her plot lines and loved each of the characters she creates. She strengthens bonds, kicks up the heat to high and before you know it you are done with book 2 wondering where book 3 is! This is a great read, 100% recommend. I won’t say more - no spoilers here. Just read it!
I’m so happy that I loved this book even more than the first. I love the romance, I love the friendships, I love to hate the villains.
Even when new characters are introduced I stay intrigued and invested in their storylines. Hillary does an excellent job at writing slow burn, but also at writing conflict. I love a little lovers quarrel, but when it drags on it gets stressful. I need some resolution over here.
Also sometimes cliffhangers can really infuriate me depending on how high stakes they are, but the ending of this book was just right 👌🏻 👌🏻
This book is full of surprises, at every single turn. Loved the growth of Meave and Tiernan, and the side characters. I liked that it doesn't just focus on them. It includes everyone, and everything happening around them. I'm obsessed with these two, they're definitely endgame, and him calling him Astora(swoon) was it for me. I highly enjoyed the expanded universe and new characters. That cliffy was a little cruel but I know in the end it'll be worth it. Can't wait to read Realm of Nightmares.
This was so good!! So much adventure and twists and turns i had no idea were coming.
I have fallen absolutely in love with all of these characters. Found family is unmatched in this one 🫶
Maeve is so badass. Her in a nutshell:
“I simply want to make sure no harm comes to you just because someone thinks I’m not looking.” Her hands clenched into fists at her sides, ready to strike. “You know damn well there will be blood on my hands before anyone, male or female, dares to touch me.” - 100p that BETCH
Another WOW. I thought I was invested after the first book but sheeeeesh… I need the third immediately.
I am so in love with these characters.. both the MC’s and side characters. I am completely invested in them all and now I’m probably going to have my heart broken at some point in the next book because the attachment is STRONG. The spice also kicked up a decent level in this book.. which I am very much here for.
I am so completely satisfied with the progression of the story in this book. So much happened that I never felt it was dragging. But there is still so much of the story left to be told. Can’t wait for #3!
Thank you to Tantor Audio for entrusting me with a gifted copy!
Throne of Dreams by Hillary Raymer The Faeven Saga book 2
Narration by Aletha George Aletha did a great job with this one. I enjoyed her voice and love how she continues to bring these characters to life with such emotion!
Dual POV, stabby FMC, monsters, found family, fated mates, betrayal, hidden identity, so many secrets, touch her and find out, cursed kingdom, fae courts, tragic background, mental health rep, banter, high stakes, cliffhanger!
Our story continues with Maeve and crew and I love them! The stakes are high and I felt all the emotions during this one! That cliffhanger!! The way I ran to book 3 before writing this review!!
This series. Wow. Talk about picking up where the previous book left off!
Maeve is exploring what she learned and went through in the last book, and her anxiety and trauma from it all is so valid and relatable. The way that Hillary writes her journey working through it is absolutely beautiful. The way that Maeve works through it and the way the supporting characters and MMC character helps her through it is really well-done and well-written. Speaking of the MMC... hi sir. His POV was a welcome addition and added so much depth to both his character and the storytelling. I'm picky about having more than one POV in books, and his was so well-done and needed to carry the plot forward.
The tension in this is... holy crap. At one point I was yelling NO PANTS DANCE because omggg. So good. Never did the story lag to the point where I thought "what's the point of this event/scene?" There was no excessive lore dumping, the plot twists and reveals were placed strategically and I was on the edge of my seat. What a journey, and what an ending!
Definitely pick this up if you're in need of an easy-on-the-brain fae romantasy series with a swoony MMC!
This contains spoilers as I merely went in a chaotic squeal about this book. I love it and you should just take my word and go read it.
Ok ok. I love this book. The first one was good as well but THIS ONE?!
I love Tiernan but I’m team Rowan…
The author is amazing. I love their use of words when describing visionary detail.
The banter The spice The love The trauma and ptsd and how our MFC handles iiiittttttt. Chefs kiss. I love this world so much.
Now this one definitely made me cry.
The ending is on a cliffhanger.
I think it’s Rowan and now my heart hurts because of a conversation that Maeve and Tiernan had about him.. and how she is fated to Tiernan. Ugh my heart.
The God Aed and Tiernan made a deal and it was supposed take everything from him. His life and what not…but when they cash in the debt the God takes Maeve?! Ugh what?! Though I guess the author may have already gave that away very sneakily with how she has been wording it…
Ugh I need book three.
This is more of my chaotic thoughts than an actual review..: but like.. go read it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’m not the best at write reviews. I was able to read an early ARC of the second novel in the series. I’m probably not totally correct on grammar, nor wording, but I will say after reading this, I have a new found love in fantasy romance. I went seeking out that same type of world building like ACOTAR and this is it. Hilary randomly found me on TikTok and I’ve been hooked. I will forever be your #hypegirl.
It’s been a long time since I’ve binged a book and literally finished 20% then it went from 80 to 100 in a solid day. Crown of Roses is one of those books that are top list and Throne of Dreams is surpassing that love I have. Maeve’s story is amazing and I love how she is a warrior all on her own, doesn’t let her titles define her. She is a total badass and I love how she can just go from I need you to fuck this, I got it…
And now onto Tier. Maeve doesn’t need Tiernan but she wants Tiernan. He picked up all of her broken pieces, and still found her perfect, mortal and fae. Took all the moments from her heart and took her as is. As she is. The High King of Summer is what I needed for a perfect distraction of my crazy life. BET, I’m comparing my husband to Tiernan 😉
We FINALLY are extending to the other four courts and I love seeing the differences and similarities. The side characters have beautiful arcs, and any one of them could get their own side story easily, and I love that. I cannot wait to see more of this world ♥️
I was given this book as an ARC for my fair and honest opinion.
Throne of Dreams
This series is my new favorite obsession!
Hillary is a masterful writer! The worlds she creates and the way she describes them in a way that you feel like you are there. The characters that she creates are so uniquely hers and amazing wonderful. I was hooked from the first page until the very last. I cannot wait the read the next book in this series.
“You eclipse the moon and shatter the stars. You are the object of my every desire. You are dreams and eternal promises.” He bowed his head before her. “I will only ever kneel before you.”
If you love: 💜Enemies to Lovers 💜Fated Mates 💜Touch her and die 💜Found Family 💜Hidden Truth 💜Dark Secret 💜Fantasy Shifters You will love this series!
Now when it releases GET THE BOOK!!! Trust me!
Oh and if you haven’t read Crown of Roses by Hillary your going to want to read that first.
Received TOD as an ARC Crown of roses was great, but Throne of Dreams has left me absolutely speechless. I found myself becoming more and more invested in Maeve as well as the other characters. Seeing her struggle with real life issues such as her anxiety as well as finding solutions to save her home and the people she holds dearest is just chefs kiss! Totally recommending to my friends.
I love this authors writing, it draws you and make you feel like you are a part of her stories. Book 1 Crown of Roses was great, but Thorne of dreams was amazing. I felt the love the characters had for each out, the pains and losses I ugly cried a few times. Even thought it kind of ends on a small cliff hanger, if you read book one you know how it ends and are happy about it. This series is a must read series for me!
