What happens when two coworkers are trapped in a Magic Christmas Cabin determined to make them act out romance tropes?
What can you do when you work with the woman of your dreams…but you know you can never have her? That’s Klaus’s predicament. He’s a grumpy Beast Kindred warrior assigned to be the protector of a curvy little human named Kelli. He thinks his gorgeous coworker is out of reach…until the two of them get assigned to stay in a couple’s Christmas Cabin designed by alien researchers interested in holiday mating habits.
Kelli has no idea her huge, grumpy Kindred Protector is in love with her. But she’s about to find out when they get to the cabin where Holiday Romance is the priority. Once they get snowed in, all bets are off and the spicy shenanigans begin! What happens when the cabin makes them kiss under the mistletoe or forces them to take a shower together? How about when the couch disappears and there’s only one bed? And that’s not even counting the naughty outfits the cabin provides them to wear.
Will Kelli and Klaus survive being Trapped in the Christmas Cabin or will their work relationship turn into something a lot more intimate? You’ll have to read this grumpy/sunshine, coworkers to lovers, spicy sci-fi romance novella to find out!
Author's Note--this little novella is the first in my new series of Kindred Tales Spicy Shorts. Sometimes I have an idea that isn’t long enough to be a whole novel, but I want to write it anyway. And I know that sometimes you just want a short, spicy book that doesn’t take a week to read. I hope you’ll enjoy this new series which I’ll add to whenever I have one of those short ideas. And if you have an idea you think would make a great spicy short, come find me on FB or Insta—I love to talk to readers!
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
It’s so sad and annoying, but all of her Kindred world books are starting to sound the same 😕. The couple is always hesitantly, slowly pushed into increasingly scandalous/steamy situations (which honestly DOES do a good job of building tension), and they always seem to be rationalizing why what they’re doing either is or isn’t acceptable, like “Oh, but we’re co-workers! We can’t do this!”, or “Hey! I can’t do this because I am her bodyguard” or something like that. And then they always seem to end by the “goddess” revealing herself in the end and “fixing” everything. At this point, it’s old. Not saying it’s BAD, but it doesn’t feel new.
3.5 Stars A cute read, but I think a little bit of background was missing. I needed more detail on their world, as well as their working relationship. But the concept of their little love adventure, I really loved that. it was a fun idea, and unique to anything I've read (at least the magically bit of their getaway.)
I’m already a sucker for the sunshine-and-grumpy trope, so this story had me from page one. Throw in a diplomatic mission to evaluate an alien race studying human romantic behaviors, mix in a sexy grump of an alien who’s secretly in love with the ambassador he’s guarding, and then drop them into a town designed entirely around Christmas. Every shop, restaurant, and activity themed for maximum yuletide cheer, and I’m in heaven. And THEN the cabin happens. They accidentally trigger an all-romance-tropes experience that they must complete before being allowed out. The result? Truly laugh-out-loud moments. Think: a magically shrinking bed, a five-minute avalanche engineered just to create a “snowed-in” scenario, and more holiday-romantic chaos than two people can handle. It’s a novella and a quick listen, but it’s packed with heart. Warm, funny, festive, and absolutely perfect for sliding into the holiday spirit.
I thoroughly enjoyed this quick and spicy story that really pulls on the heartstrings. The emotions are strong, filled with past hurts and simmering anger, but also the promise of new experiences that are hot and thrilling. As the characters navigate their journey, there are moments of revelation—small things that make a huge impact—and the struggle of not quite knowing how to handle them.
Past secrets come to light, vows are forgiven, and love is given and received once more. The story adds a unique twist to the holiday romance genre, mixing tension with unexpected, sometimes fun moments that keep you hooked.
As always, my book reviews are completely voluntary and I have not received any monetary compensation. All opinions expressed are my own.
Whew! This gives a very unique way to look at a possible Hallmark Christmas movie. In this we get strong emotions. Past hurts and anger. New experiences that are hot and amazing. Revelations of small things and not knowing what to do with it. Out of this world new experiences that can, if done correctly and boy is it, cause lightheadedness and near exhaustion. Past secrets revealed, vows forgiven so love can once again be given and received. Absolutely loved this short story and I am looking forward to what comes next from this author.
Love this quick and spicy story. Kindred are what any human woman would want. But with Klaus that might not be an option. When this grumpy alien male needs to protect the cute human female things get tense when they visit an alien version of Christmas town. This story brings a unique and sometimes fun twist to a holiday romance.
On WOW, so many possibilities for this world....... so many options, whew, getting steamy thinking about it. Klaus so grumpy and yet so Kindred, no other way to put it. Kelli is just so bubbly and fun. Love to see Opposites Attract.
On a personal note, I generally don't read novellas but am so happy that I did.
Nice quick read. All the tropes of a Hallmark movie and I loved it. Would've been interesting if multiple couples were asked for opinions on the town and all of them had "interesting" experiences too.
I picked up this book because of the unhinged cover, but I found it to be really funny and cute. Aliens have trapped the main characters in a Christmas cabin and their AI is going through romance book tropes to force them together.
Really fun read. It was nice having a shorter story for a change, although the full length stories are great too. Would definitely recommend for anyone who like spicy stories.
