A Promise of Forever

Rate this book
Perfect for fans of Jill Shalvis and Before I Let Go, this heartwarming novel explores the sisterly friendship between a group of women and a second chance at love—all set in the idyllic small-town of Firefly Lake.

Terri Rhodes loves her husband—when he’s actually present. Their whirlwind marriage was a steamy fairytale for about a year. They moved to Firefly Lake, made amazing friends . . . but over time, Jon’s legal practice and Terri’s work as an ER nurse have turned them into ships passing in the night. What she wouldn’t give to connect with Jon the way they used to, before the long hours, and unexpected tragedy, broke both their hearts.

Jon can’t stand to see his beautiful wife in pain—or talk about his own. He couldn’t admit there was a problem until Terri got his attention in the worst by walking out. Jon will do anything to get her back, like leaning on their new friends in the Supper Club and taking her on dates that prove their chemistry is as hot as ever. He has to believe it’s not too late to prove to the woman he loves that his heart and ears are open. And that no matter what, he’s not giving up.

One Liner: Low-stakes and sweet

Terri Rhodes and her husband had a whirlwind marriage and moved to Firefly Lake. As time passed, Jon’s legal practice and Terri’s work as an ER nurse made them guests in their own home. Terri yearns to connect with Jon as before work, and an unexpected tragedy changed their lives.

Jon knows his wife is unhappy, and so is he, but he isn’t willing to talk about it. But when Terri left, Jon was desperate to do anything to bring her back and worried if it was too late. With help from his new Supper Club friends, he hopes to win Terri back no matter what.

The story comes in the third-person POVs of Terri and Jon.

My Thoughts:

When I requested the book, I wasn’t aware that this was the third in a series. Not a problem when I know I’m jumping into a series, but I do like to know it in advance.

A Table for Two and A Perfect Pairing are the first two books, and I would have enjoyed this more if I had read at least one of them. This book is possibly the last in the series, so it divides the attention between the main couple and the side characters.

The writing is easy to read, like very easy to read, with light-hearted dialogue and basic descriptions. I could finish the book in 1.5 days, so that tells you something.

The main characters are likable. They are in love with each other but are going through a tough phase. The MMC has a lot of suppressed trauma to unpack, which he does eventually, since he loves his wife.

The main side characters were delightful (not a surprise since they featured as leads in the previous books). The others were nice too. In fact, we don’t have villains here. Just some nosy and overbearing people who also learn to tone down by the end.

Based on the first 50%, this was a 4-star read. However, the plot lost its momentum in the second half. It still had interesting moments, but I felt like it became a bit too easy despite the triggers.

Food is a strong theme, and there are a couple of recipes at the end for those who want to try. I appreciate this (obviously), though it’s not my kind (doesn’t matter; any food works in books). That said, I’d love a recipe for the 7Up cake. It sounds interesting! I remember there was a trend, maybe, of using soda water in some cakes. Will have to look it up again.

There’s some open-door romance and spice, but not in detail. Maybe 1.5 on the scale. My favorite is that there’s no unwanted drama. While it does make the book too sweet, it also sticks to the core theme of a couple in love trying to find their way back to each other. It's assuring when the characters confidently state they love their partners with all their hearts and are learning to show it.

To summarize, A Promise of Forever is a sweet, hopeful, and heartwarming read set in a typical small town where the gossip mill works overtime. Rounding it up since the book made me smile.

Thank you, NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing), for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

(3.5 Stars) This is the third in the Firefly Lake series. Firefly Lake is a small town and the romances have focused on a tight knit group of friends. In an unusual move this romance focuses on Terri Rhodes who is married and loves her husband Jon. She works in the ER at the local hospital and he is a lawyer and senior partner of a small law firm. But Jon is working longer hours and when he is home he isn’t talking or connecting to her. Jon loves his wife and grew up with a father that taught him talking about and showing emotions is a sign of weakness. He doesn’t wake up to how bad the situation is until Terri moves out into their friend's guest cottage. The romance in the story is him wanting to date her to win her back and show her he is sincere in his feelings.

This book and series is gentle with lots of friendship support. I like that no one is cheating and causing big drama. But the flip side of that description is the story is predictable, even if it is well written. It is still relaxing escape reading but not something that stands out. I was genuinely surprised when I saw that I had read the previous two books in the series. It wasn’t till I read my reviews that I recalled the storylines, characters and made the connections. This can easily be read as a stand alone novel. Kudos for the lovely eye-catching cover. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing)

✅A heartwarming story about Terri and Jon who are floundering through their marriage. They still love each other but things are just not going as they should.
With the support and help from friends, they attempt to go forward in their life.
Their friends in the Supper Club know just how to help them out.
A Promise of Forever takes us on a journey of healing and reconciliation. A journey of putting the pieces of a broken life back together.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I really enjoyed Jon and Terri’s story. It felt real by portraying that marriage isn’t always easy and communication is important. Mama Nora came through with the words of wisdom. It was good spending time in Firefly Lake again. As always, I enjoyed the good food, friendship and fun. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next. The recipes are always a special bonus 😊

Book review of A Promise of Forever by Sheryl Lister. Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for my ARC.

This book is everything I want from a second-chance romance. It’s tender, emotionally grounded, and never takes the easy way out. Sheryl Lister gives us a story that doesn’t just flirt with the idea of love after hardship—it looks it straight in the eye and demands something honest. A Promise of Forever isn’t about falling in love; it’s about staying in love when everything around you is falling apart. And that’s what makes it so powerful.

Terri and Jon Rhodes are already married when the book begins, but their relationship is hanging by a thread. They used to be the couple everyone admired: passionate, playful, and in sync. But over time, life crept in. Their demanding jobs—Terri as an ER nurse and Jon as an attorney—stole away their time and energy. A personal tragedy dealt a final blow to their already strained connection. And now they’re living like strangers under the same roof. Until Terri decides she can’t do it anymore and walks away.

What struck me most was how deeply real this situation felt. This isn’t a romance built on miscommunication or petty misunderstandings. It’s built on grief, burnout, silence, and the kind of slow emotional drift that happens when you stop paying attention. Terri isn’t leaving to punish Jon—she’s leaving to save herself from disappearing. And that distinction matters. Lister writes her with so much care and clarity. She’s not perfect. She’s scared, tired, and vulnerable. But she’s also brave enough to ask for more.

Jon, meanwhile, is a man who thought he was doing everything right. Providing. Working hard. Being dependable. But what he wasn’t doing—really listening, opening up, showing up emotionally—nearly cost him his marriage. Watching him come to terms with that was satisfying and painful. He doesn’t magically fix himself overnight. He struggles, stumbles, and has to unlearn years of emotional avoidance. But the key is that he tries. He doesn’t run from the discomfort. He leans into it, even when it hurts. And that makes all the difference.

Their journey back to each other is full of awkward conversations, tender moments, and hard truths. There’s no grand romantic gesture that solves everything. Instead, there’s effort. Consistency. Dates that are more about emotional reconnection than flowers and candles. Moments of silence that slowly shift from tense to comfortable. It’s a slow burn, even though they’re already in love, and I found that incredibly refreshing. Real relationships take work, and this book doesn’t shy away from showing that work in action.

The supporting cast adds richness without distraction. The women of the Supper Club are warm, funny, and fiercely loyal. Their bond adds another layer to the story—reminding us that love isn’t just about romance. It’s about community, friendship, and the people who see you even when you don’t see yourself. Firefly Lake as a setting works perfectly. It has all the charm of a small town without feeling saccharine. There’s a grounded energy here, a sense of shared history and quiet support that permeates the pages.

I also appreciated how the story handles grief and trauma. It doesn’t reduce either to plot devices. Instead, Lister treats both with nuance. The loss that Terri and Jon suffered is never fully explained in graphic detail, but the emotional fallout is felt on every page. You understand the weight they’re carrying and how it impacts everything—how they talk to each other, how they touch, how they avoid. That emotional realism is what elevates the book from a sweet romance to something more resonant.

And still, despite the heavier themes, the book never loses its sense of hope. There’s warmth in every chapter. Humor in the banter. Joy in the small wins. It reminds you that love doesn’t have to be perfect to be worth fighting for. It just has to be chosen, again and again.

Sheryl Lister has written a love story that doesn’t start with butterflies but with broken pieces—and then shows us how those pieces can be put back together, not perfectly, but meaningfully. A Promise of Forever is about what happens after the “I do,” when the real tests begin. It’s about showing up even when it’s hard, especially when it’s hard. And it’s about the kind of love that’s deep enough to weather storms, strong enough to rebuild, and soft enough to forgive.

I closed this book feeling grateful—for the honesty, for the vulnerability, and for the reminder that love is less about magic and more about choice. Every day. Every moment.

A Promise of Forever is the third book in The Firefly Lake series. Firefly Lake is a small town with sweet noisy neighbors and all.
This is a beautiful second chance story about Jon and Terri Rhodes. They are married and love each other dearly but have lost their way to each other. We all know how life can get in the way but add grief, busy work schedules, and lack of communication and you have a serious problem.
Jon has been grilled by his father all his life that men who show emotion are weak. Terri has had her fill of Jon's lack of communication and his attitude towards their marriage being in trouble. She's also tired of living like strangers under the same roof. Terri decides that she can't take it anymore and walks away from the only man she's ever loved.
What makes this a beautiful emotional story is how real it feels. Their problems aren't about pettiness or misunderstandings. It starts with a deep grief and escalates to miscommunication, silent treatments, and frustration.
Terri feels the only option she has left is to leave her home and husband to save her own sanity.
The author writes Terri's story with so much passion. She shows how Terri is scared, mad, tired and just done period. She's not perfect and she knows that but she also deserves much more from her husband.
Jon has so many emotions running through his mind he fels like he is drowning. Add that his father has preached to him for so long not to show weakness and then to top it all off His beautiful wife whom he loves more than anything has left him.
I felt so bad for Jon because society says men are tough, strong and don't need outside help to cope with life when things get unbearable and he is losing the most important person in his life.
I'm truly in awe how Sheryl Lister shows the turmoil that Jon's going through and all the emotions he's feeling along with his desperation to bring his life and his marriage back together. She shows what most people won't and that is that it's ok to be broken and need help regardless if your a man or woman. She shows that marriage takes two working hard at their marriage to make it healthy and beautiful.
There journey back together is not an easy walk in the park. It's filled with awkward moments, truths, and lots of silent prayers. I also like how the author did not use the sex card for the solution to the problems. You surely read in the story how much in love Jon and Terri are and that sex was never their issues.
She also shows how there close knit friends are so supportive and willing to do just about anything to see Jon and Terri get back together. The emotions are not in graphic detail and drawn out but its felt on every page of the story. You understand fully how they feel without dragging things for chapters which I call fluff. You feel the emotions warmth joy and laughter all around. It also reminds you that love is not perfect but its worth fighting for.
I can't write enough how much I enjoyed and loved how real this book was written. The couple is broken and has to put the pieces of their marriage back together if they want the passion and companionship they once had.
This book was written with truth and honesty for the the Real man that struggles with self respect and gives his all to make things right not only in his marriage but also within himself.
Thank you to the author for a beautiful book and the pleasure of reading it for and honest review.

A Promise of Forever is the third title in the Firefly Lake series, bringing us Terri and Jon, a married couple who have drifted into uncomfortable silences when Terri makes a choice that will change their dynamics and perceptions of each other and their marriage forever.

Falling in love is the easy part; staying in love, paying attention to a marriage, that’s the hard part. That’s where Terri and Jon are right now as their story begins. The silence between them is screaming in pain. The disconnection of their marriage into passing ships on a vast ocean is very real. The fear of vanishing into something she no longer recognizes as the woman she once was is the final straw that brings Terri to the point of moving out of her home and into a friend’s guest property. It’s not that she doesn’t still love her husband; she does. Yet, she cannot connect to him anymore, and he spends more time at the office than ever before. The grief that has touched their lives would either bring them closer or tear them apart… and it seems that fate has made that painful choice.

A Promise of Forever by Sheryl Lister is a soft, thoughtful, and emotionally rich story of how sometimes a couple may still be “in love” but there are also parts of their lives that desperately need attention, yes, even work. We’ll watch as Jon gets that wakeup call, as we go on awkward dates, slow-burning emotions awakening, and perhaps, the ability to come back together better than they were, a real couple fighting to save their marriage, their love. I enjoyed their story so much. If you crave a well-written, emotional romance with believable characters and situations, then you’ll love Terri and Jon’s story.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in this trilogy. Book three, A Promise of Forever wraps things up with a story that was both charming and deeply emotional. Expect to laugh, cry, and sigh with heartfelt delight.

The four women at the heart of Serenity's Supper Club are friendship goals. I love how they rally for one another, offering support when needed and straight talk when appropriate. They are one another's biggest cheerleaders and Terri needs all of them when her marriage hits the rocks.

I've also enjoyed how the new husbands from books one and two have formed their own bonds, pulling Jon into their circle in this book. As much as Terri needs her girls, Jon needs the brothers even more. The life-long toxic influence of Jon's father has Jon's marriage teetering on the brink. I love that the author uses strong, confident, happily married Black men to show Jon that being vulnerable, sharing your feelings, and asking for help doesn't make you weak but, in fact, makes you stronger.

The progression of Jon's and Terri's marriage from tension to separation to reunion unfolds in a thoughtful, organic, and authentic manner that kept me engaged and involved from beginning to end. The stakes of their actions are realistic and relatable, their love for one another palpable, but the issues between them not easily mended. The hard work they put in - especially Jon - had me celebrating their HEA with smiles and tears.

If you enjoy charming, heartfelt, small-town romance with relatable, fully-dimensional characters, strong friendships, supportive community, drool-worthy food, emotional heft, and swoon-worthy happy endings, give A Promise of Forever a try. It has my enthusiastic recommendation, as do books one and two, A Table for Two and A Perfect Pairing.

A Promise of Forever was a wonderful second chance romance. One that shows how hard it can be to make it through challenging times, but that it is possible.

Terri and Jon Rhodes have been married for almost five years, but their marriage is anything but stable. Jon is an attorney and Terri is an ER nurse, so both of them are in very demanding and stressful professions. Life and their careers have started to pull them apart. Terri has tried to communicate with her husband, but it isn't working, so she does the only thing she knows to do and tells Jon she has to leave.

Jon has always been a provider and has done what he needed to do to provide for his wife. What he is not great at is expressing his emotions. He realizes that this what has nearly cost him his marriage and the woman he loves and he knows he's got to work on it. He works to learn things that are totally out of his comfort zone and even when it is uncomfortable for him, he soldiers on.

The situation between Terri and Jon feels so realistic. The road toward healing for them is anything but easy, but there are moments of tenderness, emotion and many conversations, some that were challenging and difficult. This book showcased that every relationship takes work, whether a friendship or romantic relationship, and the realness of it oozed from the pages.

I would highly recommend picking this one up!

Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I always gravitate towards marriage in trouble / second chance romance because I am almost never dissapointed with the angst and drama they bring. This book definitely was angsty.

This story is about Jon and Terri, they are a married couple that lost a pregnancy and their marriage hasn't been the same since. Jon is spending more time working and leaving Yerri by herself. He wont talk to her about his feelings and was taught by his father that a real man doesn't. Terri is at the end of her rope. She feels neglected amd that she's carrying the Wright of the heartbreak by herself. She tells Jon that she needs to be seperate from him to think about her future and how she wants to proceed.

I liked seeing the journey of reconciliation, Jon waking up and realizing.he needs to talk about his feelings ( with a therapist and with his wife) in n order to save the marriage. The story contains a great feiend system between them in their small, cozy lakeside community.

I liked reading about their journey of healing both themselves and their marriage.

I did feel like the story dragged in parts and had m p re conversations woth friends then between the main characters. I had to put thos book down several times because I just got lost in the conversations when I wanted to see more actions with the reconciliation.

Overall Id recommend this book, especially if you want a pretty safe ( for the safety gang) marriage in trouble book.

Terri and Jon Rhodes are a couple in crises in there marriage. They love each other, but a tragedy is keeping them from moving on with their lives. Terri loves her husband and Jon would do anything for his wife and seeing her in so much pain, he does not know how to deal with hers and his, so when Terri takes drastic measures, Jon knows he must find a way to get his marriage back on track and do everything in his power to show her than he loves her and wants to work through their problems.
With the help of their friends in their Supper Club, Jon begins to "date" his wife again and romance her and get back those feelings of when they first met and their whirlwind love affair and go into a future filled with that love.

This book was so heartwarming though at times so incredible sad, as we share in Jon and Terri's loss. But it had so many wonderful romantic moments as they find their way back to each other with the help of their friends. There was a lot of hope and heart in this read and the author gets to the heart of the couple who really love each other.
This book can be read as a standalone. I have only read one other book in the series, but you can catch up quick on the other couples relationships and their friendship in the Supper Club.

An ARC of this book was provided through NetGally and the publisher. Review is my honest opinion for review.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for a honest review. This is my second book by this author and she is quickly becoming a favorite. She has a knack for writing stories that eloquently share the raw details and emotions of real life struggles.

Terri and Jon’s story was a beautiful, emotional roller coaster. There was no doubt of the love they have for each but their story begged the question, is love really enough? Jon’s struggle to open up to Terri due to his Dad’s persistent pressure during his upbringing highlights a real issue that men experience every day. The way the author wove that fact into the story and gave specific details on the efforts Jon made to overcome his inability to show and speak about his emotions was beautifully written in a way that gave honor and respect to Jon’s character. I enjoyed that this story showed both characters leaning on each other when needed instead of the emotional support being one-sided. The circle of friends that have become family to Jon and Terry added another layer that adequately reflected the beauty of having a community of people who love, uplift and encourage.

This story is for anyone who loves a realistic love story that involves disappointment, heartbreak, forgiveness, overcoming and second chances.

A couple finding their forever love for one another all over again
We first meet our main characters. Terri and Jon Rhodes sitting together at dinner at home but not talking. Jon is engrossed in a work thing on his tablet while Terri begins to fume. They have been married almost five years after a whirlwind courtship of only three months. Terri is beginning to wonder did they marry too soon? After a tragic event, they had moved from LA to the quiet little town of Firefly Lake. Terri and Jon hoped they could forget the past and begin a new and bright future. Unfortunately, Jon is hiding something. When Terri gives him the ultimatum, he either needs to shape up or give up. What will he do?
Reading this book was like lounging back and enjoying a meandering sleepy river ride; events develop naturally and organically and we witness it all. Having said that, this is a slow moving, slow burn re-romance between a married couple that I recommend if you love sweet but sometimes sassy goings-on. Wonderful secondary characters. This is the second book that I have read by Ms. Lister. I wonder whose story we might get next in this lovely lakeside town? I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.
A Promise of Forever is the third book in Sheryl Lister’s Firefly Lane series. It can be read as a standalone, although I’d recommend the prior books as well. I really appreciated the grounded feel to this story, which is not uncommon with the “marriage in trouble” trope. Terri and Jon are both flawed people who are struggling with the demands of life and reckoning with its impact on their marriage. Both of them have a desire to fix things, but I like that Terri especially isn’t willing to compromise her boundaries in the process. And in Jon, it’s nice to have an MMC who is self-aware about his flaws early on and works to fix things in a proactive way.
The friendships in the supper club are once again a highlight, although I didn’t feel their presence quite as much this time around.
This was a solid closing book for a fairly sweet series, and I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy cozy small town romances with diverse casts of characters and a strong focus on friendship.

So this is third book in a series. I received an arc from net galley thank you. I don’t feel like you necessarily have to read all the other books to understand this however it would help with background information. This book is one of the few I’ve read with this concept. So the main characters Terri and Jon Rhodes have been married for 5 years and are having marital problems. After the wife tries to talk to her husband about the issues, he says everything will get better fed up with his inability to have a conversation with her. She decides to leave he knows that he loves his wife, so he decides to actively date his wife to get them back to where they need to be. This book goes into after the easy parts of falling in love happen when the real work sets in, and you have to water the garden and maintain the relationship. If you’re looking for a book, that’s not your typical easy breezy romance, but actually digs into the heart of a marriage and faith. I also enjoyed the in laws and insight from other married woman. When you have good friends who actively want you as a couple to succeed. Then this is a book for you. Highly recommend this book by this Author

This was a sweet yet realistic book about a marriage in trouble and the road to try to stay together. This is the third book in the series, but it could easily be read as a standalone. Terri is an ER nurse who is struggling in her marriage to her lawyer husband Jon. Terri loves her husband, but has reached her breaking point of what she is willing to deal with in her marriage. So, she decides to move out to take some time to heal herself and let Jon figure out if he wants to stay in this marriage. I liked how strong Terri was, and how firm she was in her boundaries of what she wanted and needed in a relationship. I appreciated how Jon worked to be self aware and realize his part in the break down of their marriage and what he’d need to do if he wanted to stay together. The supper club meals and supporting characters were wonderful as always, what I wouldn’t give for a group of friends like that! A great book about food, friends, and finding your way back to your spouse after heartbreak. I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.

"To the Supper Club. Good food, great friends, and a whole lot of passion!" Third in a small town romance series that doesn't disappoint. Although the story is predictable, there's so much love and heart in the story. The story follows a newlywed couple, Terri and Jon, that have grown apart and are trying to find their way back to each other. Their relationship was never the lack of love. It was more getting lost in the daily grind, neglecting their relationship and lack of communication. I enjoyed reading their journey to find their spark again. It was not easy but they both put in the effort. Both characters were so raw and endearing that you're rooting for them throughout the book. One of my favorite parts of the book was their very supportive friend group that have become their family. Loved how their supper clubs brought them closer together. Can't go wrong with good food and good friends! All in all a great read that's so filled with love and a very, happy ending! Thank you NetGalley, Sheryl Lister, and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the eARC!

Terri Rhodes has no idea how to fix her marriage. Everything was fine until it wasn’t. Her husband Jon is a lawyer who works long hours and Terri is an ER nurse who works just as many. They have let their commitment to their marriage slip. Now Terri sees only one way out, and that is to leave for awhile. This will either help or hinder their marriage. How hard are they both willing to work to restore their happily ever after? Will the supper club friends be able to offer any advice?

This novel by Sheryl Lister was such a good read. I loved the characters and being married for a long time, I was routing for them from the beginning. I thought the book brought a tender subject to light and I actually gained a few marriage tips along the way. It was also great to catch up with the other supper club characters and as usual I loved the banter between them all. My thanks to the author Sheryl Lister and Forever, Grand Central Publishing for my advanced copy which I read and review voluntarily. A great beach read for the summer.

Terri and Jon have a marriage in distress. They aren’t communicating and aren’t spending time together. Terri is trying but Jon seems closed off. When confronted about it he says he doesn’t want a divorce but also doesn’t seem open to her ideas that will help them fix their marriage.

Jon knows that he needs to do something to fix his marriage but he was raised not to show emotion and not to talk about his feelings. He doesn’t know how to do what he needs to do to keep his wife. Then Terri moves out and that lights a fire under Jon.

While I really enjoyed this book, it kinda dragged a little bit. I was glad to be able to see them get over all their issues. It is hard to explain. I just felt the book moved slower than I remember the previous two moving. It was a really good story. The way everything wrapped up neat and tidy for the other members of the friend group has me believing there won’t be another book in the series.

A Promise of Forever

Wow! This book delivers on every level.

Let’s go back to Fly Leaf; the gang is all there, and there just might be a few added, lol.

Talk about being hooked from the first page to the last. What a ride and exploration of Jon and Terri's journey.

If ever there was a love story that burns hot, cools with time, and fights to reignite, A Promise of Forever is it. You will find yourself on the sidelines of Team Rhodes for sure.

The title couldn’t be more perfect.

Between the slow-burn love, mouthwatering food, and the triple-layered friendships…from the girls, the guys, and the couples, this story wraps you in warmth.

Small town. Great food. Friendship.

Need I say more?

Bonus points for the Super Club 2.0 and the brotherhood. I was here for it all.

A Promise of Forever is one for the books. Totally book hangover worthy and a great wrap-up to the series.

Terri and Jon Rhodes have been married for five years, and in their busy work schedules, they spend very little time together. They both miss what they had, and Terri tries to talk to her husband, but he just shuts down. Finally, the frustration gets to her and she moves out. Will this be a wake-up call for her husband, will Terri know if he makes changes, how much change will she require. This is their journey on finding out, and realizing the marriage or themselves won't fix anything without some work from them. There are life lessons they go through, hope, discovering who they are, and what truly matters to them now. It is a book that I enjoyed reading, and when I was done reading, I wondered when will the next one come out. I wasn't ready to let them go.
I received an ARC from Forever through NetGalley.

Terri and Jon's marriage is severely on the rocks which results in Terri walking out. Will Jon work through his internal issues to get his wife back? Is love enough to keep them together?

This is a beautiful, satisfying story of healing a promise. Jon has no choice but to put the love into action in order to hopefully win his wife back. The mental health representation in honoring the importance and necessity of going to therapy was the touching.

A Promise of Forever is a accurate depiction of the woes of marriage without proper communication.

"We're always freed by the truth, no matter how painful the process may be. You don't have to carry this burden on your own."

I enjoyed this book so much that I did not hesitate on purchasing the other 2 books of this series.

Thank you Forever Pub for the gifted copy!

Although i hate that the series is ending, this book beautifully wrapped everything up. The story was emotional, heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. It also highlighted so many things shunned by the Black community in a touching, respectful and healing way. I absolutely loved everything about Teri and Jon's story and them reconciling with each other. I am in awe of how the author continues to give us thought provoking and emotional romances. I have read so many good romances this year, and I've just added another one to my list. The author continues to write in a way to prove why she has and always be one of my autobuy authors. I am excited to see what direction she goes in next.

I loved this story. It is a grown folks story. One that addressed issues in a marriage, upbringing, therapy and myths about black men and their emotions. This visit to Firefly Lake did not disappoint. Jon and Terri's story was very well developed. The background characters, from previous books, continued to make you laugh and showed that real friends support you not matter what. I could relate to many aspects of this book. Many life lessons as well. If you are looking for a book that will make you smile, think and reflect, then A Promise of Forever is for you. It is a book that you will want to read in one sitting, so make sure you have time. Hopefully this is not the last visit to Firefly. Once again, well done Ms. Lister. Well done.

I found this story to be such a positive and uplifting romance. The love between Terri and Jon was undeniable. But I found the fact that though they had problems both were determined to work on their problems. It was refreshing and hopeful. I enjoyed the friendships of all of the characters in the story. Everyone should have a group of friends that is this supportive. I liked the pacing and the writing by this author. The story moved along and though some of the characters have been in other books by this author, the story truly stands alone. I would read more from this author. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

In A Promise of Forever, Sheryl Lister delivers a tender, small-town romance centered on Terri and Jon Rhodes, a couple struggling to reconnect after the heartbreaking loss of their baby. Set in Firefly, the story follows their emotional separation and the honest work of confronting unspoken pain and assumptions. With supportive friendships, touching moments with extended family, and themes about communication and healing, the novel is an easy, heartfelt read that offers good messages for couples navigating difficult seasons together. Sheryl Lister has become a master of sweet romance with strong supporting characters and I highly recommend it.

A Promise of Forever is the third title in the Firefly Lake series. It is the story about Terri and Jon. They are a married couple who drift apart with life just pulling them in different directions.
The author did such a good job of telling a story that rings true in so many marriages. I enjoyed seeing the couple work at fixing their marriage. A second chance story that makes an excellent beach read.
Thank you NetGalley, Sheryl Lister and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the copy of A Promise of Forever. This is my personal review.

OMG, I loved this supper club ladies series after 1st two books. Jon and Terri had me on an emotional roller-coaster since I could identify with what they were going through personally after such a tragic lost. I was absolutely rooting for them to survive their marriage. Communication is the major problem in their situation. Sometimes, you have to go through something to appreciate what you have.

The support and love Terri and Jon received from their circle of friends was priceless. Well written story that exemplifies what true friends look like.

Two people who are very much in love and yet their marriage is in trouble. Terri is desperate to make things work and yet Jon cannot seem to voice his feelings. She is done and packs up and leaves. Through some hard work and amazing friends, we join them on their journey to finding their way back to each other. This is the third in the series, which I did not know. It wasn’t a major hindrance, but it would have been nice to know the backstory. A sweet, emotional read.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley.com in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Terri and Jon have been married for five years and moved to Firefly Lake from Los Angeles almost four years ago when Jon was offered a promotion to open a new office of the law firm there. Between his hours working as a lawyer and her hours as an ER nurse, they have drifted apart and Terri is desperate to bring the spark back to their marriage. With the help of the close friends she has made in Firefly Lake, she finds the support that she needs. This is a wonderful quick read.
