Orlando Sanchez has been writing ever since his teens when he was immersed in creating scenarios for playing Dungeon and Dragons with his friends every weekend. An avid reader, his influences are too numerous to list here. Some of the most prominent are: J.R.R. Tolkien, Jim Butcher, Kat Richardson, Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony, Lee Child, George Lucas, Andrew Vachss, and Barry Eisler to name a few in no particular order. The worlds of his books are urban settings with a twist of the paranormal lurking just behind the scenes and generous doses of magic, martial arts, and mayhem. Aside from writing, he holds a 2nd and 3rd Dan in two distinct styles of Karate. If not training, he is studying some aspect of the martial arts or martial arts philosophy. The Last Dance follows Emiko, a hunter, and mother of the titular Sepia Blue, as she fights off an Unholy invasion of New York. As part of an order sworn to fight off the Unholy - evil creatures that reside in central park – Emi is absolutely all business, and takes her duties very seriously. Yet, she also feels strongly about the familial tradition that she inherited from her mother and grandmother (who were also hunters) – she wants Sepia to become a hunter too. It’s hard to give further details in a review for a short story without divulging spoilers, but rest assured, The Last Dance is a great short story with a satisfying, yet open ending that serves as a terrific lead up (a prequel, if you will) to the main Sepia Blue storyline.
Really nice short story. Gives you an insight into Sepia Blue' s past. Sets up a whole series of questions you want answered and I hope that as the series goes on they do get answered. A very easy read that makes you look forward to more.
