Bargaining with the gods is never a good idea, but desperate times call for desperate measures. With the fate of all the realms in the balance, Paesha Vox has moved beyond desperate. In an attempt to save a little girl that needs her, she strikes a deal with a god and steps into a dark new world where using magic gets you killed and not blending in draws unwanted attention. With a countdown hanging over her head, she doesn’t have time to waste, but she quickly learns that allies are everything in this strange world.
When she’s forced into a pretend marriage to avoid the dungeons, her new husband promises to help her, but trust isn’t something she gives easily. She can’t tell him about her past, and he refuses to tell her any of his. But his connections and knowledge are exactly what she needs to find the Lord of the Salt, the one promised to have the path that will take her home.
Except finding him is only the first of her tasks. Around every corner lurks another god trying to draw her into more deals and new dangers that could end her life before she has a chance to fix everything. Friendships are forged, but more enemies are made.
The gods are circling, the past is calling, and sometimes, going back to the beginning of the story is exactly what’s needed.
This is book one of a duology within the Never Sky series. You can read it on its own, or you can start at the beginning with Till Death. If you choose to read out of order, there may be minor spoilers.
Blood and Promise was the debut new adult, high fantasy, fae novel for Miranda Lyn. She grew up smack dab in the middle of the United States with nothing to do but dream up stories of fantastical creatures and powerful heroines. Now married with three children of her own, an idea sparked a buried passion within her to follow a dream and teach her children that anything is possible if you’re willing to work hard for it.
DNF @ 10% - Thank you to the author for providing me with an arc. Please don't read this.
The people who say you can read this without the other books in the series are lying to you, or I'm just not very smart, because I have no idea what is going on.
I don't know what this world is.
I don't know who these people are.
I don't know which people the main characters knows and which ones she doesn't.
I feel like I just moved to a new high school mid-year and I'm listening to a group of friends talk at lunch who've known each other since kindergarten.
I do not understand the writing choices that are being made. Some things are not explained at all and others have an attempt at poetic details.
For example, we start with a prologue. Chapter 1 is marked as "Six years later". This chapter starts with the death of the FMC's lover (husband?), and his funeral. Then, it says years later she travels to Death's Court. No idea why. No idea how. Is this years after 6 years later? Unclear.
During this chapter, in which she has traveled to DEATH'S COURT (this seems like a big deal??) she is reunited with her lover like it's no big deal. Like it's been YEARS?? Are we not reuniting in a slow motion embrace?
Then she gets mad at him. Then she loves him. Does she love him? Did she ever love him? He's always been a jerk. He's always been a kind and good man.
I read a lot, but I have genuinely never been this confused. I don't tend to be nitpicky about characters having complex feelings or changing their mind a lot, but this book was explicitly contridicting itself from one page to another.
This book pulled me in from the very beginning. It all starts with a bargain with a god, leading to a fake marriage filled with secrets, tension, and chemistry that builds with every chapter. The slow burn was perfectly paced, keeping me completely hooked as the stakes got higher and the emotions deeper.
The banter was sharp and entertaining, the chemistry between the characters was undeniable, and the world felt dark, magical, and impossible to step away from. If you love romantasy with high stakes, complex characters, and that kind of slow burn that leaves you aching in the best way then this is one you don’t want to miss.

Rating: **** Feels: Suprise, Anticipation, Sass Style: Fantasy, Romantasy, Fantasy Romance First published March 4, 2025: 649 pages, Kindle (ebook)
High stakes, bargains and never feeling like you were sure there was solid ground. This was a roller coaster of emotions, twists, surprises and sass right from the start. This is book 1 in a stand alone duology in a universe with complicated world building with fascinating gods who are very involved with our FMC, Paesha's, life. Paesha's journey is full of strife, growth, warmth and dare we say it .. more sass. I am definitely glad Paesha got two books to finish this story as I can not imagine the entire story being done in one book. And now we wait for the second

I'm not sure there are enough words to completely express just how much I loved this book. Till Death the first book of this interconnected series was one of my favourite reads of 2024 so I couldn't wait for Nevermore and wow was this book captivating and immersive from the very first page, there is something so completely compelling and raw about Nevermore that resonants with me so much.
The writing is beautiful and flows so easily from paragraph to paragraph, while the world building might seem confusing and complex it really isn't, in fact what Miranda has done has created a world that expands on requiem from Till Death and makes the city of Stirling so intricate in description and vividness, it's gritty and it's heartbreaking but there is also so much beauty hidden within what is at times a bleak and scary world that the characters find themselves living and trying to survive in.
Speaking of the characters, I adore Paesha her fierceness and determination as she finds herself bargaining with gods and the games they play, after she is thrown into a realm and left with riddles to find her way back to a child that she loves and who needs her. Paesha's story is heartbreaking and learning even more about it in Nevermore just breaks my heart all the more. The banter between Paesha and Thorn is brilliant and I love how they find themselves in this fake Marriage but slowly through passing notes learn to care and open up to each other, this is a slow build of a romance and written so beautifully that every touch and lingering looks were filled with so much tension, angst and pining that when the spice finally hits it completely consumes them. The found family again is one of my favourite things, each character has their own demons and struggles yet are always there for each other.
While I had a feeling about one of the twists I never saw the ending coming with all of the revelations that there was. As Paesha's story is a duology I feel like while this was a heartbreaking and shocking ending it wasn't too bad of a cliffhanger to leave the story at and I am so so excited and intrigued for Evermore and all it brings.
Highly recommend to anyone who loves Meddling Gods, Found Family, amazing worldbuilding, fake marriage with note passing and a beautiful slow burn romance.
Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to read and review this before publication. These are my honest thoughts.
A deal with a God, a new realm, betrayals and secrets. This is the first of Paesha’s duology, and though she’s not my favorite character, the vibes were giving in this one! Major plot twists and meddlesome gods are at the center of the story, and even though the book is finished I still don’t think I understood everything. Hopefully the next book will enlighten me more!
I’ve found a new indie author that I want to read more of! Miranda’s writing style had me entranced throughout this story. Paesha makes a deal and ends up being thrown into a new realm with nothing but riddles. I was trying to figure out the riddles with her. Nevemore is full of meddling Gods with secrets. There is unique magic, banter, and an exquisite slow burn.
✨ Paesha is a strong and sassy fmc who broke my heart the more I learned about her past. Finding out what she has went through and seeing what her character has come to be was so heartwarming. She knew how to get a reaction out of Thorne and I loved seeing banter coming from an fmc.
✨ Thorne is mysterious and broody. He wasn’t expecting to feel anything for Paesha, but watching him YEARN for her was everything. He quickly becomes so protective of her and we even get a “My wife” moment.
“You’re stubborn and annoying and probably the worst possible option and yet here we are. Just tell me I’m not alone in this. Tell me you feel something.”
✨ The combination of fake marriage, slow burn, and banter was SO GOOD! I was eager for more to come from Paesha and Thorne. He was not afraid to tell her how he felt and I melted every time he let himself be vulnerable with her. Did I mention that they pass notes to each other??
✨ Nevermore has: 💙 Fake marriage 🐦⬛ Hidden identity 🗡️ “Who did this to you” 🔥 Slow burn 💛 Found family
Miranda Lyn has done it again with her amazing story of Paesha in Nevermore! The manner in which this story is written is freaking incredible!! The writing is impeccable! The world is magnificent and intriguing! The pacing is perfectly on point! It’s dark and full of mystery and intrigue. The slow burn tension is perfect!
Paesha is such an amazing FMC. She’s strong and fierce and smart. She’s good at pushing buttons and her sassy witty quips are epic. And that banter, it’s 🤌🏻💋 Thorne is mysterious, broody and sexy. When he calls her “my wife”, I just melt. The character’s arcs so well crafted and continue to develop throughout the book.
The story captivated me and pulled me in from the very beginning. There is so much that happens throughout this book. I was quite shook by the end of the book with all the revelations that Miranda threw at us. While Paesha’s story is a duology, we are not left on a major heart wrenching cliff hanger. I feel like it was a very good place in the story to leave hanging just enough to be thoroughly intrigued and itching for Evermore.
This is an amazing story that everyone needs to read. It is a standalone duology. However, I highly recommend reading Till Death first for the full impact, as we first meet Paesha there.
Thank you Miranda Lyn and the Realm Studio for the opportunity to read this early advance copy.
4.75⭐️ I’m too stunned to speak I thought this was a stANDALONE !!!! Now I’m left confused and betrayed!!!! But overall I really liked this, the audiobook is fantastic (duet narration!) and I will definitely be getting the second one whenever it’s out
THIS BOOOOK. I absolutely loved Till Death so was looking forward to reading Paesha’s story in Nevermore for months and it did not disappoint!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
First of all, that ending 🤯🤯🤯 I am DECEASED. I honestly thought I knew what was going on but I was thrown by the plot twists. I am just so shook and itching for the next book already, no pressure 😂
Nevermore is book 2 in a series of standalones, however Paesha’s journey has been extended into a duology. You don’t have to read Till Death to read Nevermore, though I do highly recommend it because it’s just so good!
I just love the word building in this series. It’s giving Progressive Era vibes and our MMC Thorne wears glasses people! I’m picturing turn of the century sexy professor and I’m here for it 😂 But add morally grey and “wife” 😮💨 I’m in love.
I love our fiesty FMC Paesha. I loved her in Till Death and love getting her story! She loves to push buttons and will do anything for those she loves. I hope we get more Quill in Evermore 🥹
This book literally has the best mix of banter, sloooow burn tension, found family vibes and mystery. Add in immersive world building, magic and meddling gods and you truly get sucked into this story.
Read this if you love: ⏳ Fake Marriage 🫖 Hidden Identity ⏳ Meddling Gods 🫖 Bargains ⏳ Slow Burn 🫖 Robin Hood Vibes
Thank you to the author, Miranda Lyn, and The Realm Studios for the eARC. These opinions are my own.
✨📚 Oh. My. Word. I just finished and THE PLOT TWISTS 😭 I was not ready!!!!
This book begins very traumatic, with some torture. If you can make it through the first 10%... You might have PTSD like Paesha does - but it will be worth it.
This book is such a hot mess of a journey and I ate it up.
The character development and relationships are incredible.
❤️🔥 Slow Burn 💘 Enemies to Lovers 🫶🏼 Found Family 💍 Fake Marriage 🫢 Hidden Identity 💌 Note Passing 🌬️ Meddling God's 🗡️ Betrayal
This book ends in a cliffhanger, and I need Evermore immediately. Thank you Miranda Lyn for providing me with this ARC, I am so incredibly grateful!
This was such a fun listen and these audiobooks are amazing! Duet narration is where it’s at and I can’t go back.
The couple in this book was everything. Paesha is witty and so badass and Thorne was sexy as hell with his smoky words and sensual promises. There was so much angst and tension between the two of them.
I will say the pacing of this book started to feel a bit off after the 50% mark. There were a lot of things that felt unnecessary. This did not need to be a 21 hour audiobook. However, with that said I still really enjoyed it and the experience was worth it.
Reading Till Death before this book is highly recommended! I really struggled with the world building in this one. There’s also so much going on that the pacing was a bit off for me. However, I really enjoyed the story and I also really enjoyed the Gods and their magic systems. The audiobook performance was 5/5.
I was utterly captivated by Nevermore from the very first page. The writing is exceptional, and the plot kept me engaged throughout. The ending was a complete surprise—I never saw it coming. 🤯 Throughout the story, I found myself deeply invested in Pasha's journey, especially with Thorne… and now I'm desperate for more. With more questions than answers, I'm eagerly anticipating book two! I can't wait to see what unfolds next! I'm also excited for my physical copy to arrive!
If you enjoy romantasy, I highly recommend starting with ‘Til Death’ and then reading Nevermore before the release of Evermore, book two of this duet in the Neversky series!
3.8 ⭐ I enjoyed Paesha's story sooo much more than Dey's. I wouldn't say this is a standalone either - You definitely should read Till Death to understand the context of this book. I felt like the editing and plot MADE SENSE compared to the last book. The characters and romance actually had substance. The whole husband/wife thing was a bit repetitive but actually added to the plot this time. It got a little confusing at the end, but I'll pick up Evermore because I need to know what happens next!
First, I want to thank you for allowing me to read this early. It was an absolute honour to read something, that I genuinely believe is your best work yet. 🩷
This book is the first part in a Duology set within a series of interconnected standalone novels. Nevermore follows our main character Paesha, and her journey back home.
I am absolutely obsessed with Paesha. She was one of my favourites from Till Death and she dug into my heart so much deeper in this story.
I absolutely loved the world that Miranda created in this novel and the characters that we got to meet. The story moved beautifully, and the twists and turns that Miranda gave us had me gasping at 1 o'clock in the morning as I finished this.
I'm genuinely frothing at the mouth to get Evermore. I cannot wait to see where Paesha goes in the next part of her story!!
This Robin hoods vibes novel, with meddling Gods and fake marriage is an absolute must for your 2025 reads!
Nevermore -Never Sky Series Book 2, part 1 of a Duology-
4.75/5⭐️ 1.5/3🌶️ 2/3🦋
Holy. Mother. Of. Pearl. You guys. YOU GUYS.
*deep breath*
Ok. I loved this. It was twisty and dark and beautifully written. I was excited for Paesha’s story and this was beyond my imagining. Paesha is fiesty with a deep loyalty and love for her people, and she is determined to do anything she needs to do to save those she loves most. After bargaining with a god, she ends up in an unknown realm racing the clock to save the world and return to the people she loves. This was so chaotic and I had a hard time putting it down. The pacing alternates between fast and slow and while I was completely invested I kept thinking I was almost at the end but the story would just take off again! I love a fake marriage and I ate up the slow burn tension, the banter and THE NOTES! The found family was really special and the meddling gods were unhinged. I’m still very much processing that ending and I can’t wait for the conclusion to Paesha’s story in the next book!
*Check content warnings - this one feels a little darker to me due to world set up and the graphic violence and gore.
**Series breakdown: The Never Sky Series is a series of interconnected standalones. So far we know… •Book 1: Till Death (one couple gets an HEA, parts of the plot are open ended) •Book 2: Nevermore, part 1 of a Duology (cliffhanger ending, apparently Paesha needed more time to shine) •Book 3: Evermore, part 2 of Duology (HEA assumed. Right Miranda? RIGHT?)
Thank you to The Realm Studios and Miranda Lyn for the early copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really, really enjoyed this book. I've read a few books by Miranda Lyn, but this one is by far my favorite book by her, it's not even close. There is so much I loved and enjoyed about this book. Nevermore is set in the same universe as Till Death and while the author says that they can be read as standalone stories, I would highly recommend reading Till Death prior to reading Nevermore because you get a bit of an introduction to Paesha's character and I feel like you get a better sense of some of Paesha's motivations (especially when it comes to a certain little girl) if you read Till Death first. That being said, while Till Death took me a bit to warm up to, I felt like I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. It is jam-packed with so many elements that I enjoy reading. It has a fake marriage plotline, there's a found family aspect to it, it has magic and meddling gods. I'm also a huge fan of any type of fairytale retelling or fairytale inspired book, so I liked the nods to Robin Hood in the book. I was a fan of Paesha and Thorne's characters, and I liked their dynamic together. I know this is probably a minor thing, but I loved the fact that Thorne wore glasses because I feel like I hardly ever read fantasy books where the male lead wears glasses, and I liked that about him. I felt like this book was such an adventure to read and I thought I had some of the twists figured out as I was reading but while I was close, the actual twist in the book was even bigger than I could imagine. I think towards the end, I got a bit confused, but I think that's more of a me issue than an issue with the book. I tend to rush through books toward the end if I'm very into them because I want to know how it ends so I may have missed a detail or two but that's why I'm such a big rereader. I am so excited to reread this book in the future to prepare for the next one because I'm sure I missed a thing or two, and I can't wait to piece it all together. I really loved this book, and I'm excited to read how it ends in the next book.
Thank you to Miranda Lyn and the Realm Studios for the gifted arc!! Okay first off what in the absolute FUCK was that ending?? The plot twists have me ready to PUKE and I need the second book immediately. I think the author made a great choice turning this into a duology instead of a standalone. I had felt like the ending of Till Death was a bit rushed, but I have no such complaints with this book. I was glued to the pages from start to finish. I’ve loved Paesha since Till Death, and I had so many questions after the ending of that one. I absolutely loved getting to know her character more in this book. And Thorne had my whole heart the entire book but I don’t even know what to think after the ending. I need answers IMMEDIATELY. This is one of those books that has such a great balance of plot and romance—my favorite type of romantasy. The world in this book was brutal, but I loved getting to explore Wisteria. I’m nervous and afraid of returning to Requiem in the next book. This was very different from Till Death in a good way.
Miranda’s books catch me by surprise everytime! She is so good at creating unique worlds and settings that feel so different from your standard romantasy book. In this book you’ll deal with so so many fun tropes as you follow Paesha on a journey to complete a task that came from making a deal with a god. The active gods system in this book is so much fun and overall it was never boring. Moved at a crazy fast pace right from the very beginning!
This is technically a standalone, however! I highly urge you to read Till Death first! While you would still enjoy the book without reading it, the amount of things that will have a way bigger impact on your reading experience if you had read Till Death are so so worth it. I highly suggest Till Death on audiobook it is duet narrated and seriously Phenomenally done. Also the CRAZY ending of this book is definitely even crazier if you have read Till Death and have the context of that book. The overall emotional impact of everything was just insane for me and I loved it!!!!
The second part evermore is set to come out this fall and I cannot wait!
I am unwell. This book was absolutely everything! Suspenseful, romantic, tragic, sobfest-inducing, anxious, wanting to throw the kindle, every single thing under the sun and I am here for it. This was just fabulous, and I am so glad Paesha demanded her story get two parts because WOW I did not see some of this coming and am so ready for the rollercoaster that Evermore is sure to be!
Okay first of all, I devoured this book in essentially 2 sittings. Once I was actually able to get reading (outside of travel and work)- I could not put it down. Paeshas character is everything you need in a FMC, she’s sassy, witty, emotional, strong, smart, loving, honestly incredible. I loved reading everything from her perspective and getting to see through her eyes. Y’all the banter in the book had me cackling, it’s so good. But the real winner is the TENSION 🥵🔥- I was kicking my feet and swooning at the tension in this book- it’s too good to miss out on, I promise. This story truly had it all I loved every minute I spent reading it. As always, Miranda got me good- I did not see that ending coming- I CANNOT wait until Evermore!!!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC but all my thoughts and opinions are genuinely mine.
"be careful of deals made with God's in the dark"
Miranda Lyn does it again. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors of all things romantasy and this book is no exception. Her book Till Death was one of my favorite reads in 2024 so getting to come back to this interconnected world was something I've been looking forward to since this book was announced.
"Or that’s how it seemed when I was blinded by his love. But now? Now I kind of wanted to punch him in the dick." This line in chapter one was when I was sure I would love everything about this book and I wasn't wrong.
I was instantly sucked into Paeshas story, her boldness, her willingness to bargain with the gods and her determination. If you love 'found family' badass female main character and delicious slow burn with great payoff you'll love this book. The hardest part of reading it will be trying to find the willpower to put it down and not reading it all in one long sitting.
I absolutely can't wait for the second book, that ending was something else and very unexpected I feel like it left my heart shattered, I look forward to the next book hopefully being able to put it back together. This was a 5 star read for me and I feel extremely lucky that I was able to get an ARC copy of it.
Wow! I cannot believe it took me until now to read the most recent installment in The Never Sky series by Miranda Lyn. Nevermore is mysterious, intense, sexy, and will keep you in complete chokehold!
I am very thoughtful and intentional about how and why I rate books, and this one totally deserves a (rare) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating IMO.
What you can expect: 📒Dark Fantasy Romance ☕️Found Family 📒Fake Marriage ☕️Meddling Gods 📒Hidden Magic ☕️High Stakes 📒Trust No One ☕️Violence & Brutality 📒Strong & Badass FMC ☕️Broody & Protective MMC 📒Mysteries & Revelations ☕️Trauma & Loss 📒Intense Yearning ☕️Top-Tier Witty & Hilarious Banter
As I’ve said before, Miranda Lyn is an excellent storyteller, and this is absolutely no exception. From beginning to end I could not step away and was completely enamored by this book. Each chapter unveiled more intrigue and mystery, leaving me completely stunned and beside myself by the end. This book was really nothing short of enthralling and fantastic!!
The romance between Paesha and Thorn is full of so much delicious tension and yearning, and their push and pull is intoxicating. Adding in a heaping dose of affection and tender care, their relationship will make you melt. I genuinely loved their banter so much; on that note, the banter between all of the characters in this book is genuinely some of- if not the best and most entertaining I’ve ever read. While this book is very high stakes and a little brutal, the balance of the laugh out loud banter is perfect to keep the story from wearing the reader down too much.
I will warn you…the last like, 3% of this book is just off the rails. I am struggling to process everything that happened…
I’m definitely glad I did a reread of Till Death before jumping in- it was a very helpful refresher, providing context for this book. I’d also recommend checking the CW list, there are certainly brutal moments and themes throughout that may be difficult for some readers.
This story is just so ridiculously good. So many unexpected twists and turns, reveals and new mysteries, heart break and love, this book will put you through an emotional rollercoaster in all the best ways. I truly cannot wait to read the final installment in this series, Evermore, releasing August 29th!
This book takes you on a ride, and I loved every minute of it!
Nevermore is the second book in The Never Sky series. Till Death is book 1, and I definitely recommend you read it because it's amazing. However, I don't think you need it to understand this book because it has all new world building, characters and plot.
I was so excited to read Paesha's story. I absolutely loved her sass and protective personality. The banter between her and Thorne was so good! I was literally giggling the whole time. The tension is THICK, and the burn is SLOWWWW!! I just ate it up!
This book has the best found family! Miranda has a talent for creating characters that are easy to relate and connect to. The little moments in the kitchen with Jasper or playing cards with Archer, among many other moments, really make me feel invested in these characters.
That ending... CRIMINAL!! I need book 2 immediately 😫
All this to say, you NEED to pick this up ASAP! The audiobook is phenomenal! It's duet narration by Jacci Prior and Gabriel Michael (Xaden from Fourth Wing GA). It has music in between the chapters and during certain scenes that really elevate the experience. I felt like I was watching a movie.
⏳️Meddling gods 🍵Banter ⏳️Slow burn 🍵Fake marriage ⏳️Robin hood vibes
Phenomenal!! I was addicted from the very first chapter and it never ever stopped!!! Paesha makes a deal with a god in the hopes of saving the realms but dangers lie around every corner. The vivid descriptions and the way Miranda’s words can pull so much emotion from me never ceases to amaze me!! And it wouldn’t be one of her books if I wasn’t crying my eyes out at one point and laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes the next! This was a roller coaster of emotions!
The fake marriage gave me every amazing piece of tension and yearning that I crave! I was kicking my feet, swooning, and pulling myself back up from being a puddle on the floor! And every single tender moment of comfort…. just sigh!! The magic notebook was one of my favorite parts of this story too!
The incredible banter, plot twists, betrayals, reveals, and just every single thing about this book was perfection! It’s one of those where I finished and just sat there in awe of how much I loved it and words escape me to review it properly to convey how freaking amazing it was!! This book deserves nothing short of INFINITY stars and I have no idea how I am going to wait until I have the final book of this duology set within the Never Sky series in my hands!!
✨Meddling gods ✨Phenomenal BANTER ✨Fake marriage ✨Slow burn ✨Wound care ✨Found family ✨“Eyes on me” ✨Who did this to you?
My prized possession was still that chipped teacup, its beauty lived in its flaws, a reminder that perfection was never what made something worth keeping.
“Every damn day, every moment with you, it's different. You challenge me, you make me want to break every rule I’ve ever set for myself. You’re stubborn and annoying and probably the worst possible option and yet here we are. Just tell me I’m not alone in this. Tell me you feel something. Tell me there’s a reason you find comfort in me at night. Tell me something. Anything.”
“Gods, you’re a ravishing little menace.” His voice was low, reverent, like he was saying a prayer meant only for me.
But then you arrived, a whirlwind of fire and steel, shattering the carefully constructed walls I had built around myself.
“Only you could command me, threaten me, and pleasure me in the same breath.”
“You taste like honey and sin, darling. I could feast on you for hours and never be sated.”
“Now, here I am again, standing on the edge of all I know, drawn to you like a song calls to the heart. You’re the note that could shatter the silence, the promise of something more than just survival. But if I give in, if I risk this… I’m afraid I’d lose the one thing holding me together. I lean on logic because wanting you feels like the beginning of something vast, something unstoppable, and gods, I don’t know if I’m strong enough to survive it.”
“You’re mine,” he growled fiercely, one hand fisting in my rain-soaked hair again. “I will leave this world behind. You will go and I will follow. Today. Tomorrow. Forever. Every lifetime.”
“Stop setting yourself on fire for someone who’d rather tell you to find water instead of putting you out themselves. You don’t have to conform to him. Or anyone else, for that matter.”
Still in pain from the way I slammed face first into that plot twist at the end. Let me mentally prepare you for everything that is about to come. Before you embark on this journey, you’re going to need to buckle up. Because this book will take you on a rollercoaster.
Thank you so much to The Realm Studios for this eARC!
The book starts off with a bang! Paesha is grieving the loss of her true love, and will do anything to get him back. She strikes up a deal with the Gods and must face the consequences of that decision. Already the stakes are so high. I was hooked right from the beginning—Although admittedly confused. But that was my own hang up. There’s a LOT happening with a lot of characters being introduced and Miranda does an incredible job explaining things. It was difficult for my tiny pea brain to process at first. Especially coming off a contemporary small town binge. Even with my minor confusion, I was thoroughly invested.
I was fascinated with the way Paesha was dropped into a world that’s so opposite of her own. She’s doing her best to keep up, but she has so much to learn. Starting with—stay away from the royal guards! She immediately gets captured and there were so many moments when I questioned if she would actually survive the ordeal.
And then she gets tangled up in a group of thieves? I was OBSESSED. It’s giving Robin Hood in the best way. This book had the slowest of slow burns, but it didn’t feel like it because of how intense the tension is between the characters. To put it lightly, I was FERAL for every morsel of interaction they had. I loved so much about this book. The banter? Chefs kiss. All the mystery and intrigue with hidden identities and meddling gods? YEESSSSSS. I was racing towards the end and couldn’t believe it once I got there. It’s not quite a cliffhanger but it was crazy enough that it left me craving more of Paesha’s story.
One thing I know for certain: I need severe emotional healing after that book.
I felt tension and relief. Pain and sorrow. Joy and giggles (banter is top notch). Suspicion and angst. Agony and devastation. And then absolute shock and betrayal.
I wish I could say that I was spiraling at the last 50 pages. But I felt the same way at the last 100 pages. And the last 200 pages before that. And the last 400 pages before that.
There was never a reprieve in this book. If we weren't focused on action or impending doom, we were developing a relationship that was going so deep, I felt it through the pages.
Paesha is a star. She is getting 2 books and she has earned those two books. I want to know every single thing about her and her life, I want to know more of her inner thoughts and how she processes the events around her. She is so strong while not being afraid to admit her flaws, she quickly becomes one of my favorite FMCs. I loved her in Till Death, and she shines all on her own in Nevermore.
This book is everything I wanted it to be, and I'll just sit over here as patiently as can be for Evermore!
"Cooking is a lot like life. Sometimes you have to make do with what you have, and sometimes things don't turn out the way you planned. But in the end, it's all about the people you share it with."
Nevermore is book 2 in the Never Sky series but can be read on its own with it's coming sequel, Evermore, as these two books follow Paesha's and tell her story.
⏳I really enjoyed getting to see the start of Paesha's story unfold in this book. She was a favorite of mine in Till Death! There was so much intruige with gods and bargains and their lore in this story. I felt like we got so many interesting pieces to connect in a much bigger puzzle! I loved our MMC and band of misfit side characters so much. Plenty of banter and heartache from all involved.
⏳I will say that I found this book pretty long and with it having a sequel I don't know that it needed to be as long as it was. Also left a bit confused and disappointed at the end so it'll be interesting to see how the ending plays out later!
