Sheltered Hearts brings two former lovers back together through a renovation project at a small-town B&B. When a storm traps them inside, cosy conversations force unresolved misunderstandings to the surface. The confined setting promises emotional intensity and second-chance romance, and the premise itself is strong. However, while this novella starts well, it ultimately feels somewhat underdeveloped.

The prose is smooth, accessible, and easy to read. The brisk pacing makes this a quick novella that doesn’t overstay its welcome. The atmospheric storm scenes, in particular, are inviting and immersive. While the speed keeps the narrative moving, it also limits deeper psychological exploration, leading to the latter part of the book feeling a little flat.

The forced proximity offers opportunities for reconnection, which initially feels relatable. I struggled especially with the male lead, whose handling of the central conflict lacked the accountability one might hope to see.
