A very in depth, well constructed world presents itself in Feud of Blood & Darkness: Arcana Wars.
In fact, while it is clearly fantasy, I dare say I've never read anything quite like it. The first dozen or so pages are JUST an introduction to all the gods and their Arcana knights, based on tarot cards. This was a ton of info very quickly, but I liked coming back to those pages later in the book to get little reminders.
The storyline is set for an epic series with our FMC Violante leaving an orphanage to begin training with the Hanged Man Arcanum. Here she finds that her friend, Seraphine, is the High Priestess of this era. Violante is determined to become part of her "court" or "hand" who's oath is: "Our sacred duty it is to protect and serve the High Priestess, in this life and in all the lives to come."
And so sets the stage for epic NA fantasy. This is a TON of world building and details. Like- Game of Throne- type details and character lists, but for a fantasy fan- this is our jam.
What I loved was the plot twists I did not see coming in a all this world building, and for a novel that is listed as ONE in FOUR of the series- this is a really fleshed out story.
With some spice (3/5) and some gore and violence in scenes, it might not be everyone's cup, but I loved it.

Very cool concept, but overall needs some work.

Faida di sangue e tenebra è un romanzo fantasy che unisce nella sua struttura toni urban ed epic, senza rinunciare al romance. Pur trattandosi dell'esordio fantasy dell'autrice, l'impressione che ho avuto è stata quella di un titolo maturo, dove ogni elemento è stato accuratamente analizzato e trasportato su carta. La storia è intrigante e curata in tutti i suoi aspetti, dalla trama ai personaggi ad un worldbuilding veramente complesso e approfondito.
Partiamo proprio da quest'ultimo, che secondo me rappresenta il punto di forza più grande del libro. In Faida di sangue e tenebra ci troviamo sulla Terra nella seconda metà dell'ottocento. O meglio, in una versione della Terra in cui divinità celesti, demoni ed esseri fatati esistono e hanno influenzato profondamente la vita degli esseri umani, pur restando nell'ombra. In questo mondo vivo e variegato troviamo creature come vampiri, licantropi, fae e mezzi fae, demoni mezzosangue, incantatori e tanti altri. La genesi di ciascuna di esse è descritta in modo minuzioso nei primi capitoli, facendoci subito familiarizzare con questa realtà complessa e sfaccettata. Le vibes del mondo magico creato dall'autrice mi hanno ricordato molto il worldbuilding di Shadowhunter, eppure qui troviamo degli elementi davvero originali e interessanti. Mi riferisco agli Arcani, il vero cuore del libro. Scelti da una divinità fin da piccoli, questi cavalieri acquistano un particolare potere o abilità e possono sbloccare un'arma divina. L'aspetto originale è che ciascun Arcano è associato ad uno degli arcani maggiori dei tarocchi. Si nota il grande lavoro fatto dall'autrice per incastrare i vari pezzi come tessere di un puzzle, creando un sistema magico che fosse ampio e ricco di sfumature ma al contempo non troppo difficile da comprendere per noi lettori. E difatti, prima del prologo troviamo una sezione in cui sono descritte le divinità e i poteri dell'Arcano associato.
Sono rimasta sinceramente stupita dalla minuziositá con cui le figure dei vari cavalieri si adattano alle carte dei tarocchi e su come gli Arcani siano al contempo solo una parte in un disegno più ampio. L'autrice ha dimostrato di avere una visione chiara del mondo creato, di cui penso che abbiamo visto solo una piccola porzione. Ad esempio, mi piacerebbe che la questione dei diversi piani di realtà venga approfondita in qualche altro libro, perché qui vediamo brevemente il piano fatato e ci viene spesso citato il piano demoniaco, ma è stato sufficiente per mettermi una grande curiosità. Ho apprezzato molto anche la cura del mondo narrativo e la grande varietà di ambientazioni. Infatti, ogni Arcano ha un tempio in una diversa città e nel libro seguiamo i protagonisti spostarsi in vari templi, passando dalla Francia all'Inghilterra, dall'Italia alla Germania, fino ad arrivare anche in Africa. Mi è piaciuto come ogni tempio sia già visivamente diverso da un altro, e ciascuno rifletta in qualche modo la divinità cui è dedicato. In generale, le descrizioni presenti nel libro non sono eccessivamente dettagliate ma al tempo stesso riescono ad inquadrare con precisione il setting di ogni scena, riproducendone l'essenza. Anche l'ambientazione ottocentesca non è scelta a caso e ho trovato brillanti i riferimenti alla rivoluzione industriale e al progresso tecnologico intrecciati con le trame di una società magica.
In questo contesto si muovono i nostri protagonisti. La storia è narrata dal punto di vista di Violante, l'Arcano del Matto, una ragazza cresciuta in orfanotrofio fino al giorno in cui ha rivelato la sua identità. Da allora è stata addestrata da Xander, Arcano dell'Impiccato. La relazione fra allieva e maestro è molto interessante e ben delineata ed è stata una di quelle che ho preferito maggiormente. Ad ogni modo, fra tutti gli Arcani la più importante è la Papessa, il cavaliere di El, padre di tutte le divinità. Qualora la Papessa si risvegli, il compito degli Arcani sarà quello di proteggerla ad ogni costo. E si dà il caso che la Papessa di quell'epoca sia Seraphine, migliore amica di Violante all'orfanotrofio. Per questa ragione, Violante farà di tutto per entrare nella Mano, i cinque Arcani più forti, scelti personalmente dalla Papessa.
Ed ecco quindi che Faida di sangue e tenebra ci regala una bellissima found family, perché Violante col tempo imparerà a fidarsi dei suoi nuovi compagni. L'implacabile e risoluto Falco, il misterioso e sensibile Vincenzo, l'affascinante e leale Sebastian e l'enigmatico e ambiguo Manigoldo. Ho apprezzato tutti i personaggi di questo romanzo, la cui caratterizzazione, pur non essendo particolarmente approfondita, data comunque la brevità del romanzo, risulta sempre definita e precisa. Andando avanti con la lettura impariamo a conoscere ciascuno di loro, e ne apprezziamo pregi e debolezze.
La trama infatti segue un percorso principale che ruota attorno ad un mistero legato al passato, articolandosi poi in una serie di missioni che portano i nostri protagonisti da un tempio all'altro, rendendo la lettura scorrevole e dinamica. Questa struttura narrativa dal ritmo incalzante e dallo sguardo ampio permette al lettore tanto di esplorare meglio il mondo e di familiarizzare con esso, quanto di osservare da vicino i legami fra i personaggi crescere e modificarsi. In particolare, mi ha incuriosito molto il legame di Violante con Vincenzo e Manigoldo, i due personaggi che secondo me hanno una caratterizzazione più tridimensionale rispetto agli altri. Un altro aspetto che mi ha colpita è stata la presenza di tematiche importanti legate alla moralità e alle scelte. Accade spesso che i personaggi si trovino di fronte a scelte difficili, come succede ad esempio nella missione sulla piccola vampira o in quella sulle persone possedute dai demoni. Io stessa mi sarei trovata in difficoltà se avessi dovuto prendere una decisione. Per quanto la storia parli di creature angeliche e demoni, il confine fra bene e male è tutt'altro che netto e anche lo sviluppo della trama lo dimostra. Secondo me l'autrice ha fatto un ottimo lavoro nel rendere questo aspetto in modo ampio pur all'interno di un numero ridotto di pagine.
Volendo trovare un difetto a questo libro, è appunto proprio nella brevità della storia. Infatti, se da un lato il romanzo è accurato e molto immersivo, al tempo stesso alcuni passaggi appaiono naturalmente accelerati, a cominciare dal finale. Da un lato gli ultimi capitoli ci regalano un colpo di scena dopo l'altro, di cui quello principale l'avevo anche ipotizzato ma non in quel modo e difatti quando l'ho letto sono letteralmente saltata dalla sedia. Ma è anche vero che alcuni eventi si sono svolti troppo in fretta e avrei preferito che fossero approfonditi meglio. Un altro elemento impattato dalla ridotta estensione della storia sono le relazioni fra i personaggi. In generale mi sono piaciute, ma anche qui avrei preferito un maggiore approfondimento, soprattutto in alcuni casi in cui le dinamiche appaiono troppo veloci. Anche con il romance ho avuto questa impressione, in quanto il sentimento fra Violante e Sebastian nasce molto in fretta, però va detto che vi è un motivo e inoltre nella seconda parte del libro questi due personaggi mi hanno fatto letteralmente disperare. Perché da un rivals to lovers passiamo ad un forbidden love con dei momenti dolcissimi e altri veramente strazianti, che mi hanno fatto empatizzare tantissimo con i due.
Il libro senza dubbio regala tante emozioni, a cominciare dal romance, ma ci sono tanti altri passaggi che coinvolgono diversi personaggi e che riescono a toccare le corde più profonde del cuore. C'è un colpo di scena che riguarda il villain che mi ha lasciata davvero spiazzata e poi nel finale troviamo un momento che mi ha distrutta. Esaustivo l'epilogo che ci ha messo a parte degli eventi che costelleranno la vita dei personaggi che abbiamo imparato a conoscere ed amare. Non vedo l'ora di leggere altri titoli ambientati in questo mondo, perché, se è vero che questo libro è autoconclusivo, l'autrice ha assicurato che torneremo comunque in questo universo.
In conclusione, non posso che consigliarvi caldamente Faida di sangue e tenebra, soprattutto se siete fan di Shadowhunter e vi piacciono le storie di angeli, demoni e creature magiche, con Guerre Sante, misteri e segreti nascosti nel passato! Se cercate un fantasy scorrevole ma ben strutturato, intenso ed immersivo, questo è il titolo che fa per voi. Se siete interessati, vi ricordo che il libro uscirà il 2 dicembre!

I wanted to thank Alexandra Rei for the opportunity to be an arc reader for FOBAD. I am proud to be a creator that Authors have trusted with their work. As a reviewer I believe I have the responsibility to share my opinions with respect, kindness, and truth. And while a book may not be for me, it may a new favorite for another reader.
There were so many aspect of this book that I thoroughly enjoyed. The entire concept was so unique. The arcana knights being “awakened” was so imaginative ! The characters and the relationships amongst them created intrigue and left me wanting more. I was quickly engaged in the storyline & thoroughly entertained while navigating the novel.
However, I will admit, this novel was difficult for me to navigate. The amount of characters, and settings/planes, along with its fast paced nature made this a hard read for me. I feel like I did not completely grasp the background story and wished the reading experience was just a tad “slower” if that makes sense.
I really wanted to spend more time sitting with these characters because I could see the vast potential they have. I honestly feel like chapter 2 can be an entire novel on its own. I would loved to have learned more about all of the chosen arcana and watch them battle it out to impress their high priestess. But none the less, readers were presented with many great moments in the novel.
Ultimately, I do feel like the pacing and amount of information clouded my personal reading experience…I would give FOBAD just 2 stars.
And I say that with remorse because the concept was so strong. The world building was simply too advanced and overwhelming/confusing for my personal preferences.
I applaud Rei in her debut with FOBAD and wish this author nothing but the best in her launch! Thank you again for the opportunity to be on your ARC Team 🖤

Feud of Blood and Darkness by Alex Rei
Feud of Blood and Darkness is the first stand-alone book in a series of 4, from the Arcana War series. In my opinion, this is a high fantasy story with a colourful array of characters, a magnificent plot, and an ass kicking FMC. The story follows the fools aracnum, Violante. The Knights of the Arcanum are an ancient order of Knights, chosen by the gods each generation, destined to protect the High priestess from the plagues of hell.

I devoured this book. I will say that it won't be for everyone as there is a lot going on, and it can be a little overwhelming if you are not used to a high fantasy vibe. For me, Violante's story was magnificent. The world the author has created with the gods' chosen knights and their temples sucked me in from the start. The plot twists you think you see coming but then they hit you in the face when they happen was another thing I loved. I thoughrly enjoyed this read, and I can't wait for the next, which I believe might be a prequel to the events of FOBAD. I highly recommend giving Feud of Blood and Darkness a read. You will not be disappointed!

Feud of Blood and Darkness is the first stand-alone book in a series of 4, from the Arcana War series. In my opinion, this is a high fantasy story with a colourful array of characters, a magnificent plot, and an ass kicking FMC. The story follows the fools aracnum, Violante. The Knights of the Arcanum are an ancient order of Knights, chosen by the gods each generation, destined to protect the High priestess from the plagues of hell.

Thank you for the opportunity to ARC read this. At the start of the book you're introduced with all the gods and their Arcana knights, based on tarot cards, which is amazing concept, but too much information all of the sudden.. World building is great, magic system also, maybe a bit too much supernatural beings and different names for them, it was sometimes hard to catch it all... Whole plot was interesting, action packed, I really enjoyed reading it. What I miss the most is more character descriptions, it was hard for me to visualize them cause there is so little details on them besides their arcana.. We know age of Seraphine and Violante, few hair colours and that's it, at the end of the book are character cards, and somehow they didn't fit for me. End was a bit rushed too, and we learn about aftermath from diary of MC's daughter.. it seems that this is standalone, but I think it would make for a great series if written slightly differently...

Where fantasy meets tarots! The story line is gripping and unique with good writing. The RICH world building was a little confusing at times but so interesting and intriguing that I kept turning the page. I loved it! The unpredictable plot twist near the end of the book was great. I cannot believe that I didn’t see that coming. I enjoyed the FMC in this story. She is smart, strong, and brave.
If you’re looking to discover something new, original, and memorable, then try this book out! I look forward to reading more from Alexandra Rei soon.

Wow, when I say this book had me in a chokehold at just the dedication, it really did. Not only does Alex give us amazing descriptions of all the gods, it’s so interesting and exciting.
I love when a book gives me all the secret clues to what is going to happen in the end of the book: and this book did not disappoint. When the big shock is revealed near the end of the book, it makes me so happy as a reader that I knew I was right. Like I said before, I hate when a book gives you missed signals, and when a reveal happens, it’s from so left field that it’s confusing.
My only complaint is that it’s a standalone, and I just want to dive back into the world with Violante, because that girl has a place in my heart now and forever.

I immensely enjoyed this! The magical lore is immaculate and very thorough. It took some getting used to due to the vast number of different deities and their respective powers, but I loved the originality of the use of Tarot inspired reincarnated champions. The details that went into this lore! Also the symbolic use of 21 chapters (counting prologue as 0 and epilogue as 21) is not lost on me.
The plot was action packed and made for a fast paced enjoyable read. I feel like this would hold up so cool as an animated series! With all adventures and side-quests at different sanctuaries, but with a main multilayered sinister plot guiding the story.
With a lore as vast as this one I’d have liked a bit of a slower pace, since there are quite some characters to keep track of. Mainly with some of the relationships to have them develop more naturally. So my main critique would be that I’d love to read more by this author!
This book is perfect for you if you loved Shadowhunters and like your urban fantasies to have fated mates, world protecting institutes, found family and above all a unique magical lore.

❓Faida di Sangue e Tenebra è un urban romantasy NA dove dei cavalieri devono proteggere la Papessa a qualsiasi costo e combattere una o più guerre sante.
Ma raccontato così sarebbe troppo riduttivo ecco dunque tutto quello che ne penso con i suoi punti di forza e non.
🤯 Sin da subito il libro cattura con un plot twist a fine prologo! Intriga tantissimo e i tempi sono abbastanza incalzanti anche senza per forza scene d’azione: infatti rispetto magari ad altri fantasy non ho trovato scene inutili o superflue. Hanno tutte una funzione ben precisa.
Se all’inizio ci si trova confusi a causa dei tanti nomi che spuntano fuori come funghi, per tutto il resto della storia diminuiscono drasticamente e questo perché i personaggi principali sono in sintesi solo cinque.
🔮Una cosa su cui ha puntato molto nel marketing la scrittrice italiana è che il suo libro avesse le vibes di Shadownhunters, The Witcher, Baldur’s Gate 3 e I Cavalieri dello Zodiaco. Beh, che dire se non che è assolutamente così! Ho sentito le atmosfere alla Dungeon & Dragons anche solo nelle azioni dei personaggi con i loro attacchi e incantesimi, le scelte morali che mettono in crisi come in BG3 e The Witcher, il mondo dei “nascosti” di Shadowhunters e infine il rapporto tra cavalieri e “Atena” dei Cavalieri dello Zodiaco. Ma non è tutto.
Se c’è una cosa che mi ha incuriosito ancora di più è la funzione dei tarocchi e quindi gli arcani maggiori nel worldbuilding: da appassionata è stato per me affascinante e immerso capire che poteri siano stati affibbiati a quale cavaliere. Sì, qui i cavalieri prendono i loro poteri dagli arcani maggiori! E penso che il worldbuilding sia proprio il vero punto di forza di Fiada di Sangue e Tenebra insieme allo stile di scrittura.
✨Ci sono momenti di suspense e tensione magnifici, la scrittrice non si dilunga, il ritmo è perfetto e i dialoghi non sono scritti in maniera banale e scontata. I plot twist sono anch’essi ben integrati e servono a dare il colpo giusto nel medesimo momento. La parte romance può dare l’idea di essere affrettata a un certo punto, ma ci sarà una ragione, oltre al fatto che parliamo di un autoconclusivo. Nonostante infatti si parli di una saga, i libri che la comporranno saranno tutti auto conclusivi ambientati in epoche diverse: qualche personaggio però potrebbe esserci in più di uno. ⚔️ I personaggi sono ben caratterizzati, c’è anche più di un Morally Grey e leggerete di vari punti di vista dei personaggi, ma senza questo libro essere un multi pov. Infatti alcuni personaggi non ci penseranno due volte a dire la loro (o a fare direttamente), anche senza peli sulla lingua e ammetto che questa cosa è apprezzatissima in un mercato dove c’è spesso il trope della miscommunication.
🃏Veniamo al finale: ho avuto la sensazione che si corresse e di nuovo ho provato un po’ di confusione quando sono rispuntati personaggi di inizio libro, ma che non si erano fatti vedere nel mezzo e questo per me è l’unico e piccolo neo, ma rimane per me uno dei miei libri preferiti di questo 2024. Vi è comunque un glossario a fine dove si riassumono i personaggi più importanti, ma ahimè contiene spoiler quindi meglio - per quanto mi riguarda - non consultarlo se non dopo un certo punto ben preciso della trama.
Ho salutato gli Arcani con un senso di tristezza che mai mi sarei aspettata: un vero e proprio senso di nostalgia misto a un certo magone ripetendomi nella mente “mi mancano questi pg x”.
❣️In conclusione è un libro STRA-CONSIGLIATO soprattutto se vi piacciono le reference che ho citato. Una lettura leggera e intrigante che vi farà una bella compagnia. Non è neanche un romanzo molto lungo con le sue appena 300+ pagine.

This was such a fun ARC to read!!! I loved all of the characters! They were so detailed it felt like they were your friends! This book is wonderfully set up for a second book/spin off and I’m really hoping to go back into this world!
Highly recommend for those that are fans of action, spice, tarot, and the arcane! Very fun use of arcane archetypes!

Una delle letture più belle e appassionanti del 2024💜

💜⚔️ Avete presente quei libri che già dalla copertina e dal titolo vi catturano, ma poi si rivelano anche meglio di ciò che avevate immaginato?
Per me Faida di S4ngue e Tenebra ha rappresentato proprio questo.
Mi è piaciuto talmente tanto che non so nemmeno da quale aspetto partire per raccontarvelo, ma cominciamo dal world building. È davvero un mondo originale, unico, che non avevo mai visto prima, il cui centro sono i Tarocchi e in particolare la reincarnazione degli Arcani che, periodicamente, rinascono nel corpo di un essere umano e che si riuniscono per lottare contro il male. Il fulcro di questo gruppo è la Papessa, Arcano da proteggere a ogni costo e che in questa storia troviamo nei panni di Seraphine, la migliore amica di Violante, la nostra protagonista, che la conosce fin da piccolissime dato che si sono trovate insieme in orfanotrofio. Intorno a lei, vengono scelti alcuni Arcani che rappresentano la Mano, e che hanno come scopo principale proprio quello di giurarle fedeltà e di essere il braccio tramite cui lei agisce, e ho adorato la prova cui sono sottoposti all’inizio per essere selezionati, Ho amato questo sistema così particolare, che al tempo stesso si unisce ad alcune creature tradizionali come i vampiri. In certi tratti mi ha ricordato Shadowhunters, per la lotta alle creature della Notte e alcune scene specifiche, e questo è un paragone super positivo per me! Bellissimo anche il modo in cui si mette in pratica la loro magia, diversa e unica per ogni Arcano, così come il sistema di dei che venerano, poiché ogni Arcano è anche associato a un dio a cui si rifà nelle sue preghiere anche in battaglia.
Il punto di maggiore forza sono però proprio i personaggi. Non ho trovato alcun carattere stereotipato: ogni singolo personaggio mi è rimasto nel cuore, che fosse primario o secondario, e persino negli antagonisti ho trovato delle motivazioni, dei moventi che li spingono ad agire, oltre che una certa premeditazione e strategia. Violante è una protagonista che amerete, ma che non per questo appare perfetta e anzi, è un carattere tridimensionale, così come Sebastian, che personalmente è diventato un bookboyfriend del mio cuore.
Senza farvi spoiler, quello che posso dirvi è che i sentimenti sono molto importanti in questo piccolo ma prezioso gioiellino. Abbiamo infatti un grande spazio dedicato all’amore, alcuni personaggi sono predestinati fin dalla loro nascita a stare insieme se si reincarnano in specifici Arcani, e la presenza del trope soulmates sviluppato in maniera molto particolare ammetto che mi ha resa debole perché io ADORO questa dinamica. Al di là dell’amore però, tutti loro hanno creato una splendida famiglia da cui non vedevo l’ora di ritornare. Anche quando ero presa da altre attività, il mio pensiero correva sempre a loro, a cosa sarebbe accaduto a Violante, Sebastian, Manigoldo, Seraphine, Vincenzo e anche ai personaggi che pian piano conosceremo e che sapranno riservarci grandi sorprese, perché questo libro ha davvero una grande quantità di colpi di scena totalmente inattesi, oltre che spiegazioni di vicende del passato che prendono una piega decisamente diversa una volta svelato cosa sia accaduto davvero.
Faida di S4ngue e Tenebra ha saputo darmi TUTTO e per questo è diventato uno dei miei fantasy preferiti di sempre: con una scrittura fluida, scorrevole ma non per questo semplicistica, Alexandra ha realizzato un fantasy ben fatto, con un worldbuilding nuovo e accattivante, azione, battaglie, plot twists, un po’ di sofferenza (non manca neanche quella purtroppo😭) ma soprattutto tanto sentimento, tanto amore che mi ha fatto sentire accolta come fosse una nuova casa. Ha solo un difetto: è finito troppo presto, infatti una volta chiuse le pagine il mio primo pensiero è stato “mi mancheranno”.✨

Faida di Sangue e Tenebra è il primo volume autoconclusivo della serie Arcana Wars di Alexadra Rei, un NA dove i tarocchi sono i protagonisti in un mondo fantasy ben delineato.
Ho letto volentieri questo libro prima della sua uscita come ARC: è stata un'emozione per me quando l'autrice mi ha regalato il suo prezioso lavoro e devo dire che, nonostante le aspettative piuttosto alte grazie ai suoi numerosi contenuti social — che apprezzo particolarmente essendo pieno di belle art — è stata una bella lettura!
Personaggi: abbiamo un ampio ventaglio di personaggi arzigogolati e ben caratterizzati, adoro che ogni Arcano ha un suo look particolare che ci viene trasmesso sia tramite le tante art sui canali dell'autrice sia da descrizioni brevi ma incisive. Purtroppo forse sono un po' troppi per un libro così corto. Ho fatto davvero molta fatica a ricordarli tutti, spesso non ci sono riuscita (altra nota dolente: il glossario degli arcani per ricordarli alla fine c'è ed è utilissimo, ma ahimè farci ricorso troppo presto crea un gigantesco enormissimo spoiler, quindi se potete evitate). Peccato, perché personalmente credo che i presupposti per farlo diventare una vera e propria saga ci sarebbero stati, e anzi, avrei di gran lunga preferito che avessero tutti molto più spazio, ma in un'opera così breve comunque hanno fatto il loro lavoro.

Stile semplice ed efficace: anche i momenti di azione si svolgono in maniera fluida, avrei preferito più introspezione, ma il carattere di Violante traspare come una persona pragmatica quindi ci sta, soprattutto considerando il target NA. Alcuni dialoghi sono un po' innaturali e alcune scene un po' troppo affrettate, ma lo stile è godibile e pulito.
Romance: nonostante se ne parla e lo vediamo in prima persona, passa in secondo piano. Non ci soffermiamo molto sulle parti romance, ma è più un libro incentrato sull'azione, sulla trama, sugli eventi che portano i protagonisti ad andare avanti a risolvere misteri e crisi. Più che come NA, è affrontato come uno YA. Difatti non troverete niente di spicy.
Ambientazione e magic system: adoro, ciò che più ho amato di tutto il libro. Vediamo solo la punta dell'iceberg, ma è chiaro che il mondo dell'autrice è enorme e ben caratterizzato, e i viaggi in cui ci porta mi hanno meravigliata. Mi è piaciuta molto questa versione del mondo influenzata dal piano infernale e celestiale, in cui gli arcani sono scelti dagli déi ma devono comunque meritarsi il loro favore, dove i loro poteri hanno regole e limiti. Incontriamo anche licantropi, vampiri e esseri fatti di carne e ingranaggi!
Storyline: mi ha convinta, anche se ripeto che avrei preferito avere più spazio per vederla sviluppare in maniera più dettagliata e cadenzata. In alcuni frangenti mi è parso che l'autrice andasse di corsa, ma considerando che il romanzo è stato tradotto in inglese sono piuttosto sicura che sia esattamente ciò che è successo: probabilmente ha dovuto star dentro un limite di parole molto severo.
Insomma, lo consiglio vivamente a chi ama il genere fantasy e ama l'azione, e vuole leggere qualcosa di originale dove i tarocchi sono i cardini di un mondo affascinante e lascia stupire! Non vedo l'ora di leggere anche gli altri volumi della serie.
Ho letto volentieri questo libro prima della sua uscita come ARC: è stata un'emozione per me quando l'autrice mi ha regalato il suo prezioso lavoro e devo dire che, nonostante le aspettative piuttosto alte grazie ai suoi numerosi contenuti social — che apprezzo particolarmente essendo pieno di belle art — è stata una bella lettura!
Personaggi: abbiamo un ampio ventaglio di personaggi arzigogolati e ben caratterizzati, adoro che ogni Arcano ha un suo look particolare che ci viene trasmesso sia tramite le tante art sui canali dell'autrice sia da descrizioni brevi ma incisive. Purtroppo forse sono un po' troppi per un libro così corto. Ho fatto davvero molta fatica a ricordarli tutti, spesso non ci sono riuscita (altra nota dolente: il glossario degli arcani per ricordarli alla fine c'è ed è utilissimo, ma ahimè farci ricorso troppo presto crea un gigantesco enormissimo spoiler, quindi se potete evitate). Peccato, perché personalmente credo che i presupposti per farlo diventare una vera e propria saga ci sarebbero stati, e anzi, avrei di gran lunga preferito che avessero tutti molto più spazio, ma in un'opera così breve comunque hanno fatto il loro lavoro.

Feud of Blood and Darkness by Alexandra Rei is a fast-paced epic fantasy romance with a unique magic system, rivals (who it just so happens are also fated mates), a heart warming found family, and lots of action that keeps you enthralled.
📖 I thought the plot was great, with nicely undulating twists and turns and oh! That reveal. 😲
✍️🏼 I found the writing to be great. Easy to read and understand, with interesting and intentional word choices. Dialogue read as natural and fitting for characters.
⏳️I enjoyed the quicker pace and action leaving me interested and invested.
🗺 The world developing wasn't quite where I prefer it for 5 stars. It was good, I just would have preferred if it was given a bit more on page time. The lore is great - expansive and intricate.
🔮 Well developed, unique magic system, unlike anything I've read before. I'm excited to read more and see where the author takes it from here.
👥 There are quite a few characters, as a character focused reader I wish we had gotten an even deeper level of development.

First things, first: WOW!
THAT was a roller coaster ride and I loved it!
If you like epic fantasy, high stakes, fast paced stories that will keep you guessing what's next, this one is for you!
*Just like to point out that: I found it to be very helpful to have annotated the Cards to each Gods and each Arcana because in the beginning it was a lot of information but it was so worth it!*
At first, we get a glimpse into the past Sacred War and then we come into the timeline of the current story, to briefly meet our characters, Violante and Seraphine and after that we get to learn more about the Arcana from Violante's training.
The world building and their awakening of powers, the Rising of the High Priestess gave me a lot of nostalgia - I grew up watching Saint Seiya Anime - and this hit that spot for me.
Even though it is only from the point of view of Violante, the complexity of the characters is palpable and relatable and makes them even more endearing.
Her feelings made me question a lot all the time but also only added to create a compelling story.
The plot twists in this one sent my mind reeling. So many of the characters have their own secrets, the older Arcana and the new ones too, so I was so happy I figured one twist out before it appeared and then another one came that blew me away.
Specially the last one it was jaw dropping and literally world changing.
Honestly, I can't wait for the prequel and the next duology to release!

Questo libro, per me è un dubbio.
La trama mi è piaciuta molto, ma ci sono stati diversi aspetti che non mi hanno convinta.
I Cinque della Mano di Dio sembrano copiati da Berserk, Il libro presenta pochissime descrizioni, quasi inesistenti, e alcune scene risultano leggermente confusionarie.
La mancanza di descrizioni, unita alla complessità di alcune situazioni, genera confusione. Spesso durante la lettura, c’è bisogno di una pausa per elaborare ciò che accade nella storia, se invece gli eventi si susseguono senza sosta, diventa confusionario, cosa che mi è accaduta più volte. Questo ha rallentato molto la lettura, perché per capire tutto, ho dovuto rileggere alcune scene che non mi erano chiare.
D’altro canto, ho apprezzato molto il collegamento con le carte dei tarocchi e con la mitologia. Il fatto che l’autrice ci inviti a scegliere un Arcano prima di iniziare la lettura rende l’esperienza decisamente più immersiva.
La parte romance invece mi è piaciuta, a tratti è stata molto inaspettata, con pochi ma buoni colpi di scena che mi hanno appassionata molto.
Mi dispiace che la Papessa Seraphina (personaggio inizialmente abbastanza
importante) venga quasi
completamente messa da parte per una buona parte della storia. Questo accade a causa di un colpo di scena che avviene poco oltre la metà del libro.
È un peccato, perché sarebbe stato interessante vedere il suo comportamento in determinate situazioni, soprattutto dopo certe scoperte. Invece, viene solo nominata.
Violante come personaggio mi è piaciuta molto, e spero che nel prossimo libro venga approfondita di più. Ci sono ancora molte domande su di lei a cui non ho trovato risposta.
Per me, il libro rimane incerto, ci sono molti elementi che mi sono piaciuti, e la trama mi aveva attratta molto. Tuttavia, leggendolo ho notato che molte cose non sono state sviluppate bene e potevano essere curate meglio. Avevo aspettative alte, che in parte sono state deluse. Mi dispiace, perché avevo sentito parlare molto bene di questo libro.

I LOVED this book! My first thought, 21 pages in and having only read the correlation between the divine system and the Arcana Tarot Cards, was that I was already hooked and 100% sure this was a 5 star book!
The book is insanely beautiful! It is insanely well written! And it is unlike anything I've ever read, showcasing an amazing imagination to build a world of this complexity and perfection! It is definitely a high fantasy book!
The book could have been bigger if so was the author's wish but I saw no problem with the lenght of it.

Un Urban fantasy che mi è piaciuto veramente tanto, coinvolgendomi per tutta la narrazione.
Una storia estremamente ipnotica che cattura fin dalle prime pagine, scritta in maniera curata e creativa.
Le vicende si svolgono in un mondo popolato da demoni, vampiri licantropi e fae, tutti ben descritti e presentati dall’autrice in maniera esaustiva e coinvolgente. Mi ha affascinata in maniera totalizzante la figura degli Arcani, potenti Cavalieri che Alexandra ha saputo adattare perfettamente alle carte dei tarocchi, un elemento ricorrente in questo primo volume autoconclusivo. Tra tutti spicca la figura della Papessa, creatrice dell’universo, l’effige più misteriosa dell’intero pantheon degli Arcani.
Tantissimi i personaggi, tutti ben sfaccettati nei minimi particolari, talmente descritti in maniera vivida che ben si ricordano senza entrare in confusione. Merito dell’autrice che ha saputo delinearli perfettamente e dei quali troviamo la descrizione a inizio libro.
Ma vogliamo parlare delle grafiche? Sono stupende, come l’impaginazione e gli overlay che raffigurante le scene più potenti del libro.

Rating 4 ⭐ because I'm rounding up, but I'm thinking more of a 3.5 in my heart.
The plot to this story is SO cool. I love the magic system, and the characters at their core are really interesting.
I wish I would have gotten to see more character development between the time jumps. I feel like we were warned that the integration to the five would be difficult, but there wasn't too much of a struggle.
I would have LOVED more deets on Falco. He was a side character, but he was awesome from the very beginning.
The magic system is really complex..like.....really complex. And the world building was really dense, but the concept of the Arcana being based out of Tarot cards was really cool and I loved that angle of the story.
Overall: I'd recommend if you like the idea of complex magic systems

I loved the world building in this book, I think that it had a really unique magic system that was so complex and so thought out and everything that came with it made this world so incredible. I loved that magic centers around gods but also, resembles a deck of cards and each power relates to a specific card. I also really loved how each Arcanum had to unlock their sacred weapon and how big of a role those weapons played in the story.
Violante is such a strong character and I love that no matter what, she is forever willing to sacrifice herself for the greater good. She's ready to act even when she's afraid. I loved her relationship with Xander, her trainer who picked her up out of an orphanage and trained her to become what she is today, though he will never admit it, he cares so deeply for her. I also really love the side characters like Falco and Vincenzo!
I think the plot twist was so well executed and it set up the entire relationship between Sebastian and Violante, because that was making me nervous! This book had good adventures and great mystery! I do wish it were a little longer, that we got a little more expansion on the heavier plot points but either way, really enjoyed it!

The beginning was overwhelming with all the information about gods, goddesses, their knights, and the children of blood and moon. I’ll admit, it was a bit confusing at first with so many powers, arcana, and characters to keep track of. However, once I got the hang of it, the reading became much smoother.
I found it fascinating to see the characters navigate through the murder mysteries. The dynamics and relationships between them were so well-developed and evolved beautifully over time. The Priestess mystery, in particular, was unpredictable and really impressed me. I was rooting for Sebastian and Violante from the very start!
The vivid descriptions of the gods' temples were a highlight for me—I could picture them so clearly. The writing was straightforward and easy to follow, and the story was incredibly engaging. I was constantly eager to find out what would happen next.

A storyline I haven't read before and really enjoyed! This was based off tarot cards and paranormal beings and political intrigue with steampunk elements. It had the potential to be epic fantasy and an entire series because this world was so cool! I wish the author would have done a lot more expansion with the characters and details and plot BUT I'm not mad about how this book ended up being written. It's still a really good story and I kept coming back to it wanting to read more. This was like a condensed version of what could have been but thats just a me thing. This story 100% is completed, I just really enjoyed what was done here and would have read 500 more pages. I'm a sucker for a good story where the love transcends time and this one didn't disappoint. If you're considering reading this, do it!

so unique and intriguing! The depth and detail were incredible, though I’ll admit, it’s a lot to take in at first if you’re new to high fantasy. But once I was past that, I couldn’t put it down.
Violante, our fierce and determined orphan heroine, battles her way to become one of the knights of Seraphine, the high priestess. Her story is powerful and layered, with plot twists that kept me on my toes and pacing that made it impossible to stop reading. I devoured this in less than two days! The world-building is beautifully imaginative, and the dynamic between characters makes every interaction meaningful.
If you love intricate plots, morally complex characters, and a story that keeps you hooked from start to finish, this book is for you. My only complaint? It wasn’t long enough! I would have happily stayed in this world for many more chapters.

Wow! This was a great high fantasy read! I loved the world building and knights being chosen by gods to inherit powers was really an interesting concept. The FMC, Violante is BA! The cast of characters was 👌 with magic, epic battles, a High Presistess - it’s giving The Witcher in the best way! A forbidden romance with slow burn and light spice. And the plot twists! So exciting!

This is a high fantasy story that is filled with lots of characters and complex plotlines. The world building is detailed, but it’s the relationships, particularly the sisterly bond between Violante and Saraphine that leave a lasting impression. They have a powerful connection from the very beginning, their bond feels almost unbreakable. But both have personal struggles, which made their relationship feel authentic.
I did find myself wanting more from the romantic storyline. I would have enjoyed a little bit more focus on that part of the story to give the romance extra room to grow.
Overall though, the story had enough depth to earn a solid 4 stars.

This is tarot meets fantasy
I picked it up & finished it in under 24hours, I was hooked. I don't know if I can properly praise this book as it deserves, but I'll try!
The story begins in an orphanage where we meet two friends Violente (the Fool) & Seraphine. Seraphine is adopted & is brought up to step into her role as the high priestess of this era; upon finding this out Violente trains to win the contest to be part of the Hand, the five most trusted to guard the High Priestess.
After a disappearance, the Hand set out to solve the mystery & discover an ancient enemy is back.
It's got some great twists & turns and I didn't see the end coming to be honest & I'm not sure how I feel about it 😅
I'd say this is upper YA due to horror/blood/gore & the spice is minimal.

While this book had a unique concept, it was hard to stay connected to the story as a whole. I felt like several parts of the story were rushed and could have been fleshed out more, especially for a standalone novel. I also felt like the connection between the two love interests was forced and surface level at best. I felt like she had more chemistry with others than she did the man she was fated for. That being said, there was a major twist I did not see coming towards the end and it took this story to a whole new level. It will be interesting to see how the past is explained in the second book set in the same world.

I love the peth it went, the way was written with this little details here in there, not only from the world as from what we thought we knew...
Loved the characters, their stories, backgrounds, their flow and just wished I could have seen more about some of them - I wanted so much for some of them.
There was some intriguing surprises, some good some well... Not so good in a way. But all made to a great story, a great journey that i loved to have the pleasure of reading.
