First UK Edition. A near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket. Mild dust soiling to the lower page block. The dust jacket has rubs at the corners and at the head and heel of its spine. Signed without inscription on the title page by Powell.
As an Australian I found this book gave me great insight to the person that Colin Powell is as well as American politics. I suspect that if I were American I would have rated it as 5 stars as I would have had knowledge of some of the events/people that are discussed. Occasionally it lapsed into a 'how to' management book but overall it was very entertaining and I took a few things away from it.

This book was excellent. For those who don’t know, this book is the British version of Powell’s autobiography. My American Journey is the same book with a different cover.
This is a great book to read for those who want to understand the Powell Doctrine and tactical victories with strategic failures
I'd wanted to read this for a long time, well before he became Secretary of State. Reading it now obviously brings through questions about (and some insight into) his (and that of others) work in the George W Bush Administration, but I mostly managed to put that aside, and read it as it was written (in the 1990s). I found it fascinating.
He doesn't go into much emotion, his private life is largely kept private. But his experiences, his attitudes, and the major world events - where he played a part or simply observed - all kept me reading avidly.
Colin Powell's book made me hold him in very high esteem. He's honest, forthright and incredibly interesting. The first two thirds of the book I found amazing. It goes through his mediocre beginning in life, a lost boy with no direction, until he joined the ROTC. From there he had an amazing journey and met some fantastic people. I really enjoyed the personal aspects of this book. The last part was just too political for my liking, which is why I gave it three stars instead of four. I would definitely recommend this book.
