For centuries Capri has used her magic to keep dragonkind a secret, living only for her job. A century ago, dragon law forced her to abandon the only man she ever loved, a human, and she swore she’d never love one again. So when a murdered dragon is discovered, Capri jumps to work, only to find the human detective working the case could be her dead lover’s twin.
Detective Ryan Miller has always known magic existed. It’s the only explanation for the visions of the future that plague his life and jeopardize his career, but when a vision shows FBI agent Capri Jones in danger, he knows he has to stay close and save her. Except the closer he gets the more attraction sizzles between them, the more confusing the case gets, and the more he realizes Capri is keeping secrets. Secrets that once revealed could kill them both.
C.I. Black has always lived in a world of imagination. When she’s not daydreaming, she puts her flights of fancy down on paper writing urban fantasy and paranormal romance books.
I recieved an advance reader copy of this book and have reviewed it voluntarily. I had read the first book, and was happy to discover the same fast paced and action filled world I remembered from before. The love story was intense although almost secondary to the action, which wasn’t a detractor at all. I look forward to reading more from this author!
This is a captivating PNR read. The storyline is very good, well-written, has romance and action and developed characters. I enjoyed this entertaining book. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
Capri🐲💋 is a Dragon who cannot shift, but she has certain powers, among them immortality. She has lived for hundreds of years but right now she's an FBI agent. When a Dragon🐲 is beheaded, she gets on the case.
Also on the case is Ryan🐺🔫, a human detective who also believes in the paranormal, because he has been seeing into the future in out of body experiences. The experiences come at random times and are terrifying! They also seem to be increasing. He finds he has lost time and doesn't remember what happened, where he was, how he got to where he "woke" up.
Capri🐲💋 is flabbergasted when she first sees Ryan🐺🔫, he is the twin of her only other human lover, Erick. That relationship ended in total heartbreak💔 for her, because he got old, and being immortal, she stayed young. She vowed never to let her heart be broken💔 again.
Along with the love story💘 between the Dragon🐲💋 woman🐲💋 and The human man, there is a desperate fight among the dragons🐲 for dominance. The current 🐉dragon leader, Regis, is insane, and he has been trying to destroy the few remaining Dragon shifters🐲, thus dooming all of them to extinction. This is a long, involved book📙 with several plotlines, but it's a fascinating book📙. The author leads us at a dead run into the world she has created. I couldn't put the book📙 down! This is the second book📙 in the Dragon Spirit🐲 series.
This is an Adult Romance novel with a lot of violence and XXX scenes. ARC Received from HG for a Voluntary and Honest Review. I also bought the book📙 with KU.
Oh. My. Dear. Lord. I just totally binged on the first three of C.I. Black’s A Dragon Spirit series and, wow, was it ever so wonderful. Intricate, complex, full of adventure, there’s three novels are so different yet work beautifully together. I don’t i is which I prefer among the sets of leads, Anaea and Hunter from the first book (Immortal Coil ), Capri and Ryan from book 2 (Shattered Spirits) or Hoarding Secrets’ Ivy and Grey. They are all so very different even while being all being well-crafted and fascinating. Add in great plots and great writing and the result is definitely one for the “must read” list. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
DNF about 44% in. I really liked the first book, and liked the character of Capri in it...but it did not feel remotely like same character as from the first book. Instead of a cool competent fighter, she's constantly, I mean constantly, distracted by the love interest. So much so, that in the middle of a gunfight, when they are still not sure where the shooter is and are hearing his footsteps getting closer, she and the love interest literally stop everything to gaze longingly into each other's eyes and nearly kiss. She sits around thinking about and being distracted so much by the guy that the major case and plot issues are pushed aside. Sadly won't be continuing with the series.
Wonderfully crafted world full of unique dragons, magic, rising rebellion, Regis the evil 🐉 king, magical portals & hidden abilities with non stop action = everything you love or want in a paranormal romance. Capri and Ryan.. loved them. Gripping well written action scenes. I was very happy that we saw more of Anaea and Hunter! So intrigued by many secondary characters... Grey, who’s up next, Diablo, Nero, and Odyne. I will certainly be reading more of this author and series! ❤️😁
***ARC*** received in return for my honest review given without influence by either the author or publisher
I read the first novel before reading this one. The first one explains the world that C.I. Black has created. This one continues from the first novel and the dragon world is now in chaos. Capri joins with a detective to find out who is beheading dragons and humans. Capri is drawn to Ryan because he looks like his great-great uncle Eric. The passion and chemistry is strong between these two while the world is in chaos. The final conflict of the book is intense and kept me glued to the page.
The story, for me seemed to drag in the first half of the book and I struggled to get into the story. The second half of the book was much better, it had more action and had my attention. However, as much as I enjoyed the second half, the book was let down so much by the beginning that for me is only a 3 star. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
As good, if not better than the immortal coil. You just can't help falling in love with the real, flawed people and want to read even more. Can't wait for the next book
If you enjoy a good shifter romance like I do then you will want to read this series.I really enjoyed the first book so could not wait to read this one and it did not disappoint it was a really good read with a super plot and great characters I cannot wait to read the next one.
Many series start off amazing then sizzle out by the second book. Not this one!! Black just keeps the amazing story telling going and I am thrilled to find out what happens to Grey! Also, what happens with Diablo?? I cannot wait to read the next one!
I have enjoyed reading Sharon Hamilton's book; Fredo's secret. Oh this is going to get him into so much trouble. The love that his wife and him have just may shatter, because of his secret. I do hope that the ending of Fredo's secret will come out in another book.
This series is good. Just get them all! Each book is about one couple, but the court intrigue continues its progress through the books and obviously something huge is about to happen!
I’m loving this series and am about to start on the next. So far all are well written with a good story line. I’m looking forward to seeing Grey with his love.
I just want to read the next one now, why isn't there a new book yet......I'm waiting!! Please! This author manages to give fab little snippets into possible storylines that just make you so impatient and just wanting you to read the next.
I loved this, Capri is so strong willed and has such a good character, I loved the whole I need to stay away but cant thing that happened but what's more I loved how she cared. Not just about Ryan but his family and her friends too. What kind of danger she could be putting them in with her actions. She's something special, even with Regis's actions she was still willing to do what it takes because it was the right thing to do. She makes mistakes but that's ok and we can forgive her because she acknowledges them, apologises and moves on.
I did like Ryan, he had some balls! Once he saw something, he didn't care what he had to do but would do it because he just has this duty to help others. His relationship with Capri was kind of sweet and I liked that he wanted to protect her even if he did sort of jump in the lions den. Again he wasn't perfect but that made him more human. At times though, I don't know he sort of fell flat to me. Sometimes he kind of annoyed me but I cant quite put my finger on why....Maybe too nice??
Things that bugged me in this book (which is sort of a surprise as I tend to see the best in books) was that it could of gone to different levels. The author could of gone a little further into how Ryan looked like Eric and in the other book I was made to feel a reincarnation vibe, this fell to a dead end nothing developed other than a photo. Also I found I would of liked a little more politics, I felt something brewing but would of liked a little more insight. Ryan's family?? How would they explain to them what was going on, if he is now immortal how will that play out with his mortal family. And Hunter, yes he's off searching but a little bit more information would of been grand.
Maybe some of these questions will be answered in the next instalment. All in all I did enjoy this book, I hope the next continues to build the characters and gets me to a point where I feel completely book satisfied :)

Shattered Spirits is about: His love will set her free. Hers will kill him. For centuries Capri has used her magic to keep dragonkind a secret, living only for her job. A century ago, dragon law forced her to abandon the only man she ever loved, a human, and she swore she’d never love one again. So when a murdered dragon is discovered, Capri jumps to work, only to discover a human detective on the case who could be her dead lover’s twin. Detective Ryan Miller has always known magic existed. What I thought: Shattered Spirits is the second book following Immortal Coil. I had to go back and reread Immortal Coil because it had been two years between books. I hate to say but my memory is not that great and it was nice to read them back to back. I really like these books, we have dragons, and magi with conspiracy, secrets and lets not forget true love. Ryan and Capri story was good but I felt like it dragged in places. I Really enjoyed the last half of it the best, that's when it all started coming together and all the action took place. I am looking forward to the next one, I just hope we don't have to wait two years.
I was given a copy by Hidden Gems, then found it discounted and bought it; this is my honest review. -The story starts with a prologue to set-up the reasons of what's to come. -If you didn't take a deep breath before chapter one, then you'll be out of it by chapter two. The action, suspense and mystery starts there and doesn't stop until the very end. -We could have used some lulls into the action. For example, the last two hours of the book was all one battle and I was kind of tired reading about it since we had lots of battles to read about all through the book. -Lots of violence, magic, and gory details like brains splashing on the walls. -Not many moments of tenderness between Ryan and Capri, romance or pleasant hours spent together. -Why was Capri's head hurt so much??? It started in book one, continued in book two and ended with no explanation. -Some sentences, almost if not word for word, kept coming back: "No one wanted to find out if the rumors about Odyne were true", "Not every drake was fortunate enough to find her inamorato", "She had no idea what it meant", "as if that would stop the bleeding". -Not sure why someone called this book "erotic" - probably because she never read one... There are only one or two sex scenes and I would have let my teenagers read those. Not graphic at all, just petting and they (teens) already know about that.
