A charming seaside town, a murdered chaperone, and a determined young woman with a knack for uncovering secrets.
Dances are supposed to be fun, not deadly.
When a small town dance ends in murder, aspiring baker Annie Bishop discovers there’s more drama in the parking lot than on the dance floor.
The local sheriff is quick to pin the crime on the town’s ‘mean girl’, but Annie isn’t so sure. Armed with sharp wits, her best friend and her golden retriever Muffin, Annie dives into her very first mystery.
With Muffin sniffing out clues and secrets lurking around every corner, the trio discovers long-buried grudges and unexpected suspects.
Can Annie unmask the murderer before the wrong person takes the fall? Or will the truth of her first investigation end up half-baked?
This was lotsa fun flashing back to Annie and Casey’s high school days as Annie was telling Maggie how they got started with their murder investigations. Who knew a high school dance would’ve started all that, right? Even in high school Annie and Casey had a nose for mystery and managed to find out whodunit.
The showdown was pretty cool when Annie confronted the killer in front of plenty of people. I just loved Casey’s Grammy! She was a hoot! I really love the Bishop’s Landing series and hope there’ll be more in it soon. The last book just didn’t seem like the series should be finished yet.
This is a fun story that touched on far more points than just figuring out a murder. It also gave a distinct view on bullying. The characters are vivid and interesting. The plot is easily followed and the premise is finding out who killed the mean woman who used to be a mean girl in high school. The answers were illuminating and yes, I missed out on who actually did the killing. I almost always do. I do recommend this book.
This book sets the scene for the Bishop’s Landing series. Annie, Casey and Maggie accompanied by Cookie are camping and reminiscing. They tell the story of the first murder Annie & Casey solved. It happened at their school dance and Annie & Casey discovered the body. It was good to hear of the families they grew up in, as well as how they solved the murder.
Murder from Scratch: A Bishop's Landing Cozy Mystery Prequel by Avery Kent where Annie Bishop is attending a school dance when a body is found. Can Annie solver her very first mystery? With the help of her best friend Casey and her dog muffins they are hot on the trail.
This is a quick enjoyable read that is a prequel to the Bishop's Landing series. There are a lot of twists and a good reveal. I loved Muffin who was a good therapy dog.
An enjoyable cozy mystery with Annie taking on an investigation following a murder at the school dance. Was it the school bully or was it a random murder? Annie and a gorgeous dog, Muffin, were interesting characters. I recommend this book.
I read this book as part of an advance reader team and am voluntarily writing this review.
