Lady Eva’s Fallen Rogue is the first story in the Riddle Sisters series, and if this captivating start is any indication, readers are in for an incredible, intrigue-filled journey. This Regency romance masterfully weaves together a tale of secrets, mystery, deception, and a love that blossoms unexpectedly between two seemingly mismatched individuals.
A year after the tragic carriage accident that claimed the lives of Lady Eva Riddle’s parents and fiancé, Eva receives a cryptic letter and a journal hinting at buried secrets involving her family. The message warns her to trust no one and urges her to contact Garrett Dryden, a former Bow Street Runner turned private investigator.
Garrett, now running a bookbinding business as a front for his investigative work, is a man weighed down by a troubled past. Once a gentleman of means, his fortunes have changed, leaving him to sell his skills to those who can pay. Reluctant at first to take on Eva’s case, Garrett finds himself drawn to the elegant and determined young woman. Intrigued by the mystery surrounding her family’s deaths, he agrees to help her uncover the truth.
As Eva and Garrett work together, their partnership deepens, and so does the undeniable attraction between them. However, trust proves elusive for a disillusioned rogue, and Eva’s doubts about Garrett’s shadowy past could threaten her reputation—and her heart. Despite their differences, they discover that beneath outward appearances lie deeper strengths, and together, they prove to be a perfect match.
This story is an absolute delight. The mystery is riveting, the characters are endearing, and the chemistry between Eva and Garrett is palpable. Their journey highlights how love can flourish against all odds, and their flaws only make them more human and relatable.
The author has done a remarkable job crafting a tale brimming with emotional depth, sharp tension, and surprising twists. While some answers are revealed, the lingering questions about Eva’s parents’ deaths and the dangers still facing the Riddle sisters set the stage beautifully for the rest of the series. The unexpected twist at the end left me eager for more, proving this is only the beginning of an unforgettable adventure.
I can’t wait to see where the author takes us next. Bravo on a stunning start to what promises to be a standout series! I received an advance reader copy from the author and am voluntarily sharing my honest review.
A fantastic story of a young lady, Eve, who lost her parents and fiance. She's destined to take care of her young sister but also determined to uncover the secrets of her parents death and past. With the help of Garrett, who doesn't trust her or the ton, the adventure begins. A story filled with secrets and mystery this one was a hard one to put down. The beginning of a new series that I'm sure will be a great hit.
From the start of the book, there was suspense and mystery involving the death of her parents and fiancé. She hired a down and out drunkard who lost his fortune through gambling and drinks because of a past lost love. I was most intrigued, trying to figure out the mystery killer named The prince of death. Loved it. Liked the story and the ending. Look forward to reading book 2
Too many historical inaccuracies. The blurb tells us that Garrett (not a Regency name) was once a "respected Bow Street Runner". Here's the problem. For many reasons, Bow Street runners were not respected in the Regency Era. They often came from criminal backgrounds themselves, and the public viewed them with mistrust. Then claiming that being a spy for the Crown during the Napoleonic Wars would get you hanged for treason. No. Why would it? Could not finish this one.
Lady Eva’s Fallen Rogue is a British murder mystery with interesting cultural opposites characters trying to find answers. I felt the book was well written until the end when there were a number of cliff hangers—no definite answers.
I am a writer and out of 34 published books. I only had one book that was a cliff hanger. You can run characters through a series, but I identified them in advance.
The author does a really good job of showing all the twists and turns in the story as well as showing the growing relationship between the two main characters. Loved reading this story full of mystery and intrigue.
A cryptic message about her parents sends Lady Eva to Garrett Dryden a former Bow street runner and a rogue. This is a delightful mystery romance, between two people who never expected love when trying to find the mysterious sender and the reasons behind their cryptic message.
A mystery needs to be solved about a lost fiancé and murdered parents. A letter in a blank journal arrives a year after their deaths with a clue to a person who might help answer some questions.
Wonderful romance and story with an entertaining mix of mystery and secrets all heading to a deserving happily ever after for Eva and her rogue, Garrett.
Lady Eva Riddle’s parents and fiancé are killed in a tragic carriage accident, and for over a year now, she’s looked after her younger siblings. One day she received a package and a letter, it advises her to talk to no one about the contents, but to seek out an ex Bow Street Runner.
Garrett Dryden is now a book binder, well that’s his cover, he’s actually private investigator (or thief catcher) down on his luck, he was once a man of wealth and title. He’s quick to judge the wealthy as they usually come across and rude and arrogant. But secretly longs to restore his good name.
He’s approached by a young woman who asks for his help in solving a case. At first he’s not really interested. But something about the case intrigues him….
Together they set off to uncover the mystery of the package and the “supposedly” accidental death of her parents and fiancée.
Both have trust issues, and it does take a little time for that trust to be earned. And even it does, then Garrett is convinced she is the last for him! But can he keep her safe from the danger that soon befalls them?
A clean/sweet romance is what I usually read when I’ve overloaded on dark/mafia and heavy topics. And this one hit the spot.
Both Garrett and Eva are really great characters, technically from the same background, until Garrett falls on hard times (do we find out why? 🤐) both are hard workers, both want answers to the puzzle that surrounds them.
A few plot twists (a few I saw coming, but one or two did surprise me.)
How will Eva take the news that her parents and fiancée were not all they seemed? And will she be able to serve justice on their behalf?
It’s the first book in a new series, and I can’t wait to see where the next one takes us. This one ends well, but leaves it open for the next book. So I’d probably advise reading in order.
If you like your romance with no smut, but with plenty of mystery, then I think you’ll like this one.
4.5 Stars As the eldest daughter of one of England’s most influential families, Lady Eva Riddle has no time for love. Since the tragic accident that claimed her parents and fiancé, she has devoted herself entirely to raising her younger sisters. Then a year after the accident a cryptic letter surfaces regarding her parents’ past, it directs her to seek out a former Bow Street Runner, Garrett Dryden the only man who can help her uncover the truth. Garrett Dryden, once accustomed to a life of privilege, now sells his skills to the highest bidder. Though he knows the mystery she seeks to unravel will lead them both into peril, Garrett reluctantly agrees to help. As their partnership progresses, so does the attraction between them. The start of a new series & a well written romance with ore than a touch of mystery. I loved both Garrett & Eva they were perfect for each other, she helped him find himself again & he gave her the partnership she needed. I loved the chemistry between them & how they brought out the best in each other. The mystery was intriguing & whilst some parts were solved not all were & there is still danger for the Riddle sisters & questions left unanswered, who is the red haired woman being one. I look forward to how the other sisters become involved in the quest & how everything is resolved. There was a twist at the end I wasn’t expecting too. An engrossing book which I thoroughly enjoyed I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
This author has a way of bringing all your emotions to the surface and this story is no different. Garret is rather difficult to like through the first part of the book, with a belligerent attitude about one ton woman that he punishes Eva with every chance he gets. Eva is trying hard to keep her family together after both parents and fiancé are killed. The mystery surrounding their death pushes Eva into Garrett’s world and the villain is very well hidden through most of the story. Though the story is not complete, with a bit of a cliffhanger, surprises abound in the epilogues, the HEA seemed rushed that I found it a bit strange, especially after what Eva’s uncle did. The sisters are all different and so cute in their own way. I will enjoy seeing their stories as well and the final conclusion to the mystery. A good story, with a good mystery . Well worth the time.
I received this story for free and these are my own views.
A year after Lady Eva Riddle's parents and fiancé are killed in a tragic carriage accident, she receives a package with a journal and a letter. The letter tells her to trust no one, and to seek out Garrett Dryden, a former Bow Street Runner who now does private investigations. He reluctantly agrees to help her sort out what really happened the night of the accident. There is interesting chemistry between Eva and Garrett, as they are from different classes. There are a lot of interesting secondary characters, a mystery, and a sweet romance. It was a highly entertaining mystery/slow burn romance with quite a few interesting plot twists. I cannot wait for the next one in the series!
This is an intriguing start to this series. Eva is the eldest Riddle sister and considers herself a spinster. Garrett is a rogue who has fallen on hard times. The two are brought together when Lady Eva receives a letter from her dead fiancé. The plot is well paced and sees them following each clue to uncover the killer. While on this quest they grow closer together and fall in love. The cast of characters represent a wide variety of people. This is an excellent story and sets the stage for a great series.
