West River is a photography book documenting the amazing ranch culture and beautiful landscapes of western South Dakota. Author and photographer Greg Latza spent several years photographing his home state, culminating in this vast collection of documentary and landscape photography. Native South Dakotans consider their state to be two distinctive geographic chunks, divided into halves by the Missouri River, known informally as East River and West River. While East River is more populous and quite a bit flatter (it was glaciated, which results in rich farmland), West River is rugged, more desolate and mostly consists of native grasslands that provide grazing habitat for cattle herds. West River is a handsome clothbound hardcover book, containing 178 rich color and B&W photographs across 264 pages. It's a substantial it weighs 4.6 pounds and is 12" wide by 11" tall. Designed with the starkness of the landscape in mind, the book uses simple yet bold typography to showcase photographs with the utmost impact. Each copy is signed by Greg Latza, and can be personalized at your request.
