I was attracted to this book because the author is ex Navy and it has a foreword by Admiral Martin Connell.
I have been working with a life coach for three years and I have experienced continued discovery about myself already and the concept of constantly being on a journey. I genuinely am reasonably self aware. It's the self acceptance I need more help with.
The solutions she suggested are familiar to me because I have read a lot of self help and smart thinking books lately and I follow a number of the authors' podcasts. But Carden's explanation of them is practical and it would be a good place to start particularly if you are a senior leader. As I am relatively junior some of the leadership bits were less useful for me.
Some of the time the questions for reflection are repetitive and it took me a long time to work through them. I must have been asked what I thought self awareness was 4-5 times in one form or another.
The questions came into their own for me in the last section of the book. I found myself reanalysing a lot of things particularly related to what is going on in my life at the moment. As Carden says self awareness really is a constant process.
