Abby is an indie author and lover of all things fantasy. She started writing one day after a complicated surgery left her bed-bound for three months. It turned into a passion that she hopes to share with the world. Her favorite thing about writing is creating relatable characters whose stories can resonate with anyone.
This book was so good!! I loved the band of companions and the quest to cure a curse. I loved that we got PoV chapters of each of the 4 main characters (a mage, a healer/mender, a bard, and a rune wielder) and getting to see what motivates them. It was like an epic journey with all the cozy vibes of found family and friendship despite the darker themes this book explored and I couldn't help but root for every one of them. It reminded me just a bit of Godkiller, which was another book I really enjoyed. It almost felt like a D&D campaign brought to life. I honestly can't believe this was the authors debut because I was hooked from start to finish.
I thought the magic system and world was extremely interesting and loved the different types of magical creatures. I also absolutely adored that the main FMC Sapphira was in her late 30s. It's rare to find that in current fantasy books and I appreciated it here.
My many thanks to the author for a chance to read this as an ARC! While I received this as an ARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I can't wait to read the next book in this series when it's out!!
This book was such a joy to read. It’s unique, deeply character-driven, and carries that timeless classic fantasy feel while still feeling modernized. From the very beginning, it swept me up in its sense of adventure and emotional depth.
The found-family dynamic here is phenomenal. The group feels like a fully realized D&D party: varied, well-rounded, and compelling in their differences, yet so cohesive in their journey together despite the secrets between them. As someone who loves that style of storytelling, it absolutely hit the mark for me. The quest itself is epic in scope, with plenty of dark, intense moments that tested the characters in ways that felt raw. What stood out most, though, is how genuine the characters feel. They’re older than what you typically see in most fantasy these days, and that maturity brought a refreshing, grounded weight to their choices and relationships.
Liam, in particular, is fascinating to follow. I love immortals as characters and how life sours for them. His struggles feel so deeply human. The emotional beats landed hard enough that I teared up more than once. It’s been a long time since a fantasy cast made me want to reach through the page and protect them all, but Korver managed it.
I picked this up after seeing it recommended by Riley Knight, an author whose work I really enjoy, and I wasn't disappointed!
I adored this book. It’s epic, heartfelt, and imaginative, and I cannot WAIT to dive into the next!
Thank you to the author for the complimentary review copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
Thank you Abby for reaching out and allowing me to read a copy of this! All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this! It was a somewhat cozy fantasy romance. I enjoyed the world building and the characters. The writing makes everything feel visceral. It becomes such a fun story to read and love. I truly loved Sapphira. She was great!
“I lived nine hundred years serving myself, wallowing in grief. I will not waste this second chance I have at another life, another love.”
WOW!! I am normally a big romantasy reader but this story has me hooked from the beginning. Yes there is a romance subplot. It is a very slow burn but done wonderfully! The romance is built naturally over time, which makes is that much more believable.
In The Mender’s Curse you will find aspects of Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit and definitely DnD vibes. The journey our characters go through together and seeing it through each person POV made it feel like a movie and I was along for the ride. I definitely think that had a lot to do with the writing style. Bravo 👏 You will experience lots of action, turmoil, magic training, and heartbreak.
Oz was my favorite character for book one. I can’t wait to see where we end up in The Mage’s Stone!
The Mender’s Curse is Korver’s debut novel, and it seems a good start to a promising series. The setting seems is rather typical for the genre, though Korver paints the surroundings with wide brush strokes, dropping hints for the reader to fill in. The magic system is intriguing, though there are rumblings in the writing that it may get further fleshed out as later novels are released.
Korver’s strength seems to lie in writing instantly likable characters. The dialogue pushes the story forward, and while at times feeling slightly forced, comes across way more natural than many writers in the field. Some readers will no doubt appreciate the slow building friendships and love interest, but they were secondary to the general storyline for me. Where will the story go from here?
As with most debut novels, The Mender’s Curse is not without fault, but the fast pacing, likable characters, and interesting magic system make up for some of the shortcomings.
Mender’s Curse by Abby Anne Korver is a beautifully written fantasy that immediately stands out for its unique and refreshing magic system. The way Korver builds the mechanics of this world feels both original and deeply immersive, setting it apart from many books in the genre.
At the heart of the story is Lliam’s journey, and it’s here where the book truly shines. His growth throughout the story feels natural and heartfelt, pulling you in as you experience his struggles, triumphs, and sacrifices. The character development across the cast is phenomenal, you don’t just follow them, you grow to genuinely care for them. By the end, you feel as though you’ve walked alongside these characters, sharing in their hopes and heartbreaks.
The pacing occasionally slows in spots, which is why I can’t give it a full five stars, but overall this is a captivating read full of depth, heart, and originality. If you’re looking for a fantasy that offers a fresh magic system and characters you’ll truly come to love, Mender’s Curse deserves a spot on your shelf.
This story weaves found family, magical creatures, and an adventurous journey into a guarded forest.
The heart of this book lies in its characters, each with their own unique story of loss and self-discovery. As they travel together, they lean on each other, offering compassion, warmth, and support.
The bond they form is moving, and the way they heal and grow through their shared experiences is incredibly powerful.
I also really appreciated the central question about immortality: if faced with the choice between the dark and palpable loneliness of eternal life or the inevitability of death, what would you choose?
(A heartfelt thanks to the author for the ARC—congratulations on this debut!)
This book is a delightful blend of adventure, heart, and slow-burn romance that feels like stepping into a D&D campaign with your favorite party. Seeing protagonists in their 30s navigating their lives and emotions was refreshing and relatable. The slow-burn romance was masterfully done, with a relationship that grows naturally alongside the story’s challenges. Packed with rich storytelling, heartfelt connections, and an epic quest, this book is a must-read for fans of Romantasy and character-driven adventures.
What a gripping fantasy with a unique twist! The magic system is intriguing, and I loved how healing plays such a central role in the story. The main character, Liam, is tough but relatable, and his internal struggle with his abilities made his journey even more compelling. The side characters are well-developed, and the relationships feel genuine. I loved the way the author blended emotional depth with high-stakes adventure—it really kept me hooked. There’s a lot of tension and high stakes, and I found myself really invested in the outcome.
What an amazing read! For me, the book carried some "The Witcher" and "LOTR" vibes. The story itself was a beautiful adventure filled with action, magic, and deep character development. While there is some romance in the end, it unfolds gradually throughout the story in a way that feels natural and believable, making the emotional connection all the more compelling.
Experiencing the journey through multiple POVs felt cinematic, drawing me into the world as if I were right there with the characters. I absolutely love all four main characters and the distinct roles each of them play in the story.
I can't wait to see where the story takes us in book 2!
This book was 100% amazing read for me. The fight that Liam had to deal with mentally between wanting mortality instead of immortality or the choice to endure it had me. I was turning page after page. Staying up entirely way too late just to get that one more chapter in that ended up being 4 or 5 😆 . I just could not put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone, and hope that it gives them as great as a read as it did me! Awesome author!
So this was a slower read for me. This is a unique story revolving around a cursed mender and the friends he meets along his journey for a cure! This had a mild romance sub plot. I’m in love with the main characters and their friendship that blooms from so much turmoil surrounding them. I’m excited to see how the next book continues the story!
The Mender's Curse will take on a journey. A long, perilous journey across the continent. A journey into its most feared corners. A journey to find a cure that could end centuries of suffering.
But you won't be alone. You'll travel in the company of a unique, perfectly imperfect found family. One built on friendship and trust. One that doesn't discriminate. One that heals wounds unseen. It will take time to build these bonds, to open your heart after a tumultuous past and inner demons clawing their way out. But it will be worth it.
So, who will be there with you?
It all begins with Liam, a nine-century-old mender seeking a cure for his curse. Seeking peace. Seeking the end. Immortality may sound like the ultimate gift, but is it really?
Then comes Sapphira. A mage in her late 30s, yearning for a freedom that until now seemed like nothing more than an impossible dream. Freedom from her past. Freedom to choose her present and shape her future.
After Liam and Sapphira, there is Oz. Vibrant, just like his fiery locks. Brave and resolute, he reminds us that courage takes many forms. It is choosing your own path, doing what feels right, and never wavering. It is rooted in love (and in self-love).
Finally, there is Asa. He shows us the meaning of true love and the lengths one will go to save those he loves most.
And then, there is us. The readers. The final piece of this story. The silent ones. Yet always present: cheering them on, weeping, rejoicing.
What a unique read! This felt like an epic journey with cozy feels and the premise was so thought provoking.
In TMC, we follow multiple first person POVs, but it all revolves around a main quest: to venture to a forbidden forest in search of a cure for our MMC’s curse of immortality. After having lived years burying the ones he loves, Liam is desperate for freedom from his life leading him to (reluctantly) gather an unlikely crew as he sets foot through a world where he is neither rebel nor republic, but an unmarked renegade. After convincing our FMC Sapphira, who finds herself a wanted unmarked mage after freeing herself from her master, to join him as his protector, they make their way through treacherous towns and beneath the Republic’s noses. It’s when they and the rest of those found family, Oz the bard and Asa Runemaker, finally reach the deadly forest and are faced with the decisions of life, death, pain, loneliness, and love that we see a beautiful merging of souls willing to accept hard choices, bestow choice, and offer unconditional love and support.
This story takes off quickly as we dive immediately into our quest and yet I found myself instantly in love with the characters; admiring their hope, strength, and compassion; and enjoying the medium stakes with cozy, character developing vibes. It was all so tasteful and gave me warm feels the entire time, especially with how each character dealt with their own and each other’s trauma. All in all, I truly enjoyed this series and am intrigued to see what happens next!
Tropes you may find in TMC are disability rep, immortality (interesting views on long life vs mortality), chosen family, unique power system: menders (healer/alchemy) and mages, medium stakes, slow burn, no spice, fantastical creatures, and 30s FMC.
Abby, thank you so much for this gifted arc. It was such a delight and I can’t wait for book two!
The Mender's Curse by Abby Anne Korver adventurous medium-paced Plot- or character-driven? Character Strong character development? Yes Loveable characters? Yes Diverse cast of characters? Yes
This is my first time as an ARC reader and what an amazing experience!
4.75 stars!
This book has everything; adventure, magic, a slow burn romance, multiple POVs, and, most amazingly, a 30+ FMC who is so strong in so many ways! The characters are witty and strong minded. I truly enjoyed every moment of this book and cannot wait for book 2! Abby, you did a beautiful job with this world, thank you for this opportunity!!
Wow! I am not even sure where to start with this one other than saying it took me by surprise, in a very good way I assure you! It started off with excitement surrounding the MC's meeting and we were off running. Already there was intrigue, snippets of back stories that made me curious to learn more, interesting magical elements, and danger.
The magic in this world is held by specific people who were tested as children to see if they could wield magic and then chosen by their government to study magic. And they are either mages or menders. Mages are what you would think, powerful magic wielders who can do about anything with the right amount of power and an incantation, or without one if they have learned to control it well. Menders are magical healers who use potions and incantations to accomplish feats of healing that would otherwise be impossible by hand.
Our MC's are Liam, a mender, and Sapphira, a mage. But they are both unmarked, meaning unregistered with their government and technically using magic illegally. But as they live in a world with a corrupt government they do not wish to be under their rule. When Liam witnesses Sapphira commit a crime that could get her hanged he decides to use her predicament to his benefit, seeing as he needs a mage to assist him on his mission. So striking a deal they become reluctant allies that may grow into something more 😏 The MC's are in their late 30's which I thought may make it unrelatable for me or just different from my usual books, and though it definitely is different it was also amazing because of that!
They travel on a dangerous journey together full of monsters, danger, magical training, setbacks, and more. And along the way they make two more friends who join their cause, creating this rag tag group of misfits, but they all make a sweet and strong found family that is a joy to read about. Hunted by the Republic (the government) they have to be quick and stealthy though despite their best efforts the republic catches up to them eventually. I don't usually love books with long traveling scenes and though this book has exactly that I thoroughly enjoyed every second. And the reason behind that is there was so much action and danger was always snapping at their heels that there was never a dull moment. As well as magic training which I always love learning about magic systems in fantasies. Not to mention the relationships between all the characters.
We get to see Sapphira come into herself as a mage, as well as start to learn to trust, have friends and care about these people, discover her strength and resilience, and fight for her freedom.
With Liam we get to see his hardened heart start to soften, fight for others instead of just himself, extend his expansive knowledge to his friends, and discover what it is to love again.
Then we have Oz who is the sweet and comedic relief bard who sings his way into their hearts, he isn't strong and capable in the usual sense, but he has a big heart and willing to do anything to protect his friends, all the while singing about their adventures.
And last but not least Asa, the foreigner they teamed up with after escaping the republic's prison, he helps get them to their destination in return for Liam's mender abilities for his sick wife. He adds some logic to the group, and adds protection from his magical runes he creates. I feel like he is also really observant seeing what others may miss.
And yes you get each of their pov's so that adds to the story as well, getting bits of their back stories at a time and you really get to know them and what motivates them.
There are plenty of heart pounding moments that kept me on the edge of my seat, kept me reading late into the night, and I was constantly curious at what would come next. I truly disliked the main villain who is terrible and it isn't just talked about like in some books, he definitely gives you reason to hate him and understand why they fear him. But I also liked the notes of healing, happiness, and love that balanced out all the darkness, fear, and painful pasts.
So much happened, you meet so many characters, discover so many parts of this world and how it works that this review would be too long if I went over it all. But suffice it to say I loved this story, it is very entertaining and exciting and so well written. Definitely worth the read!
Content: Closed door/kisses only and implied off page s3x by a side characters, S3xual, physical, and emotional abuse (mostly in the past or off page), torture, discusses suicide, self harm, wounds/blood, death of loved ones, PTSD.
"The Mender's Curse" is the first book of "The Amaria Chronicles" from debut author Abby Anne Korver. Reading a debut author's first piece of work is a hit-or-miss prospect, but finding books like this makes the journey into the unknown worth it!
The story drops us into the land of Amaria where we meet Liam, a tortured immortal who must navigate through Republic-controlled territories as he seeks to uncover the secrets of his past. The story wastes no time introducing us to the conflict, both for plot and character. Being the first book in a fantasy series, a lot of world-building is expected, and this can often turn the first act into a slog. That's not an issue here at all. The world comes to life naturally as the characters experience it piece by piece.
Avoiding the pitfalls of info-dumping is impressive enough on its own, and that's not even the greatest strength of the novel. The physical writing is immaculate. Every scene, setting, and character is described with the type of prowess you'd expect from a seasoned author. The world literally comes to life through beautiful literary craft, and it works so incredibly well to draw the reader into this immense fantasy land. I knew within the first chapter that this was going to be a wonderful visual experience.
Let's not forget the characters though, because even a fantastic pace and beautiful world can't overcome characters who fall flat. Though Liam's story is central to the plot and is probably the most complex and emotional of the book, I really found myself enjoying Saphhira the most. As an unmarked novice mage, not only does she find herself in immense danger which raises the stakes, but her POV also provides a unique fish-out-of-water look at Amaria. I found her lens into this world to be the perfect way to experience it, as though we were learning to navigate the dangers together. I imagine that as her powers grow and this series churns on, Saphhira will become central to the emotional arc of the story. I cannot wait to see what's in store for her!
For Book 1, the plot is hyper-focused on the quest our heroes embark on, which makes this hugely detailed world feel small and personal. We're given a small taste of the dangers of the Republic, and I can only imagine how large this conflict will become in future books. I think this is going to be a wild ride!
If you're a fan of high fantasy with great world-building, beautifully descriptive writing, and romantic subplots; then this book is for you! 5 stars! I can't wait to read more!
“A bard with songs of ancient lore, A mender cursed long before, A mage with powers strong and grand, And a Yernishman from prison's hand.”
An adventure story about an immortal man, Liam, cursed with immortality and forced to live through grieving for all the people he once loved. Collecting the pieces he needs to make an antidote for his curse, will he find that living for his new found family is worth is after all?
The Found Family trope is one of my favorites and this hit the spot. We’ve got an strong and independent FMC who’s in her 40s and teaches everyone that they have ALWAYS have a choice! An immortal man who’s stuck in his late 30s. A young red-headed bard ( my favorite) who has a disability but he ain’t gonna let that stop him from living. And a very sharp rune making Yernish prisoner who yearns for his sick wife.
I honestly really loved this story. I was hooked and loved every second in these pages. The magic system felt unique, all the main characters have depth and are so loveable. And the ones you hate. You HATE. The only thing that made this less than 5 stars was that I was attached to these characters and wanted to hear all about their journey but it felt skipped over after the forest. And just a bit rushed until the last 2-3 chapters. Overall a great read!! And book 2 is in the making🤩
**this book was provided to me as an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much to the author for considering me for this ARC**
The Amaria Chronicles begins with Liam, an immortal whose past is shrouded in mystery. While we don’t yet know how he became immortal or how long he’s lived, it’s clear from the start that he’s suffering. Liam is desperately searching for a way to reclaim his mortality, hoping to find an antidote that can end his endless existence.
In the world of Amaria, mages (magic wielders) and menders (healers) serve under the rule of the Republic, led by the Princeps. Liam’s journey leads him to seek out an unbound mage to accompany him on a perilous mission to Miran, a forbidden magical forest where he believes the answer to his immortality lies in the form of a fire-tipped sparrow.
Liam’s search brings him to Sapphira, an unbound mage who has just killed her cruel master in self-defense. With nowhere else to go, Sapphira agrees to join Liam’s quest, and he offers her protection in exchange. Together, they set out on their dangerous journey, pursued by the Republic and facing numerous challenges along the way. As they travel, Liam and Sapphira encounter new allies, including Oz and Asa, and the bond between Liam and Sapphira deepens.
The book weaves themes of healing from trauma, confronting inner demons, and the vulnerability that comes with opening up to others. The romance between Liam and Sapphira unfolds slowly, beautifully, and with great emotional depth—an exploration of strength, pain, and the power of connection. This story is a heartfelt journey that captivated me from start to finish, and I loved the emotional richness and tender moments it offered.
The Mender's Curse by Abby Anne Korver is an absolute gem of a fantasy story. The world Korver has created feels so alive it’s immersive, vivid, and full of rich details that pull you right in. You can practically feel the textures of the settings and the weight of the history behind them.
The characters are what really make this book shine. They’re flawed and layered in a way that makes you root for them, even when they make tough or questionable choices. It’s one of those stories where you feel like you truly understand what drives each person, and that connection keeps you hooked from start to finish.
What I loved most is how the book doesn’t shy away from tackling deeper themes. It explores power, freedom, and what it takes to find your place in a world that doesn’t always seem fair. But don’t worry it’s not all heavy. There’s plenty of excitement, twists, and moments that will keep you flipping the pages.
If you’re a fan of fantasy with strong characters and a world that feels like it could exist just beyond our own, this is a must-read. It’s one of those books that stays with you long after you’ve finished it, and I can’t wait to see what Abby Anne Korver writes next. Highly recommend!
Liam, the immortal mender, is on a quest through Amaria’s realms to find a cure for his curse. Along the way, he meets some unexpected friends who help him on his journey. Together, they face magical creatures and brave the dangerous terrain of the Republic. As they get closer to finding a cure, Liam has to make a tough choice: to break his curse and become mortal, or to stay immortal.
I really enjoyed this book. It kicks off right away with Liam's point of view as he searches for a cure for his curse. Korver did a great job introducing the other characters in a way that fit perfectly into the story. I wish there had been a bit more emotion from the characters, but their growth throughout the book was still great. I loved all four main characters and how each of them had a unique purpose.
The plot kept me hooked and eager to find out what would happen next. The world-building was decent, and I'm looking forward to more as the series continues. I definitely recommend this book and can't wait to see what happens next!

Thank you so much Abby Korver for a chance to read this ARC, all thoughts are my own.
thank you to abby for giving me the chance to read your amazing story before it’s release in exchange for a review!!
i had a really fun time reading this book!! i feel like the characters and the relationships they have with each other really carried the whole story for me. i loved how diverse everyone was and how their personalities clashed, but at the same time, you can feel just how much they care about each other.
i also really enjoyed the adventure/quest of it all!! i loved how high the stakes were and the shady characters met along the way. the magic was also a highlight for me; the idea of stones and being able to connect and feel each other’s power simply by touch was a really fun aspect.
i do wish that there were more talks of how the characters were feeling while in their povs; i loved being able to see the story split from everyone’s perspective, but i want more from inside their heads!! i feel like that would have made me enjoy the characters more and be able to fully understand how they were thinking.
overall, i had a fun time, and i encourage anyone who loves adventure and fantasy to pick this one up when it comes out on february 17th!! ♥️
4.5 rounded to 5 stars If high stakes high fantasy with dark magic, corrupt politics, and hard choices can also be a cozy read, it's this one. The story seems bleak- Liam, a mender, was cursed with immortality centuries ago- sentenced to never escape the pain of losing the woman he loved. And now, after long years of searching, he has discovered the key to the cure. Along his journey, he reluctantly picks up a mage, a bard, and a refugee/prisoner- Sapphira, Oz, and Asa. Each have their own struggles but agree to help Liam on his quest and in the process, become a little family. Over time he begins to wonder, is death really what he wants?
The friendship and found family in this book is so satisfying. The communication, understanding, and compassion the characters all show each other is so nice in a genre that sometimes feels very every-man-for-himself. There is a little romance subplot, but it's based much more on respect and honestly than physical attraction. With no miscommunication or betrayal tropes, this is a book I would go to when I want action and suspense but also comfort, knowing the characters all have each other's best interests at heart.
Magic, curses, and a fierce heroine that's not eighteen years old, anyone? Mender’s Curse might just be your next fantasy read if you enjoy rich plots over romance and a story free from spice.
We follow Liam, a brilliant mender cursed with immortality, whose desperate search for a cure leads him to Sapphira, an inexperienced yet powerful mage in her late thirties who may hold the key to breaking his curse. Their journey is one of discovery, growth, and resilience as they learn to draw strength not only from one another but from within themselves.
What truly stood out to me were the side characters. So often, they’re overlooked, but Abby gives them depth, purpose, and vitality, weaving them seamlessly into the heart of the story.
This book isn’t without its darker moments. I rarely cry while reading, but chapter 35 had me clutching my Kindle with one hand and covering my face with the other, eyes brimming with tears. Needless to say, I’ll be diving straight into Mage’s Stone because who can resist a well-crafted fantasy series?
I received this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really wasn't sure what to expect with this one! I was intrigued for sure and I am SO glad I decided to make it my next read! This story takes you on an epic journey full of suspense, mystery, secrets, found family, self discovery and a whirlwind of emotions you won't know what to do with. I absolutely loved following along with Liam and his friends. Watching their unlikely bond develop into something unexpected was a great part of this story. Seeing Liam struggle with his Immortality and anxious to see what the outcome would be was exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. Every single chapter left me saying "Now what?!?" The vibe of this book is dark, tense and emotional in a way that will make you think about it long after it ends.
This book was a joy to read and I know it will be well loved. Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read her story.
Pain, grief, trust, yearning, sadness, longing, happiness. This book is filled with so many emotions, and made me feel them right along with the characters.
Liam, a mender, was cursed with immortality. Forced to live knowing that everyone he has ever cared for, and will ever care for, will die. He has closed himself off from any relationship. Sapphira, a mage, has spent her life at the hands of a cruel man. She is scared, traumatized, and yet so, so fierce.
Together they set out in a journey to find a cure. But do they? I loved that we got chapters from all of the main characters, it helped me feel more connected to all of them. It shed light to how each was feeling about everything, even if we didn’t realize how important they would be initially. This book was so well written, I’m shocked that it’s a debut novel. I cannot wait to read more from this author. Looking forward to the next one!
Korver’s debut novel is a work of art! I felt like the story was a bit slow to start, but in the end very intentionally done. Adding in the different POVs as she went added a really nice depth to the story, and sets up the next book beautifully.
This was a fun one to read, I was always eager to see where the story was going to take the characters next.
A slooooow burn for sure - but a nice change of pace as the relationships were able to form over time and feel authentic rather than insta-love/insta-friends type situations.
All the characters were in depth and I really enjoyed that the 900 year old male wasn’t always right. Watching his POV change as a direct result of his developing relationships was a delight.
Oz is my favorite. FINALLY an author that makes a singer actually have lyrics! Loved that.
This book is pretty fast paced right from the start and immediately draws you in. I found myself really loving the magical system and I was honestly very interested in learning more about the dark magic we get to see here and there so I’m really hoping that is something we get to see more of in book two! Each of the characters in this book all have a touching back story that were devastating in their own ways and you find yourself connecting with each person even with how different they are from each other. Honestly the found family aspect in this story was one of my favorite things about this book. I really loved the bonds the characters make with each other. You are left with questions when everything is said and done which leads you to want to read the next book so I’m very excited to see where this story goes next!
A wonderful debut for Abby Korver! An easy read with likable characters and a compelling plot, I'm excited to see what else the Amaria Chronicles has to offer! The strengths of this book are the characters/their bonds and (in my opinion) the story's fast pacing. Sometimes it can seem rushed, but there isn't any unnecessary fluff, which I find refreshing. There is also mature content in the story, but Korver handles this in a very careful way so it adds to the story without being off-putting. Some areas need improvement, such as times when the character's tones seem inconsistent with each other (though that may be intentional). Or in some instances, some phrases seemed out of place/too modern for the setting of the story. These are minor, however, and may be chalked up to my own personal tastes. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would definitely recommend it.
