When two witches with a tangled history are forced to team up, it spells disaster in this steamy rom-com from USA Today bestselling author Avery Flynn.
It’s the curse of every family’s heir to be the responsible one. My family being the most powerful family in all of Witchingdom doesn’t eliminate that fact, it only makes it worse—and that’s why I, Leona Amber Sherwood, never do the unexpected. Except for that one time I did.
Believe me, I have rued the day that I got married in a midnight ceremony under a full moon to Erik Svensen, the heir to my family’s deepest, bitterest enemies, and now, he won’t agree to a divorce unless we return an ancient spell book to his family’s secured facility.
But on our road trip to return the book, I learn more about Erik as we encounter trolls, nymphs, satyrs, and more. The longer we work together, the more I’m convinced that he might not be the evil trickster I assumed he was. Any more time together will leave me even more enchanted with my husband and that’s the last thing I want. And if I keep telling myself that, maybe I'll start to believe it.
✨💛 I absolutely loved this book. 💛✨ Enemies to lovers with some serious heat 🔥 he’s more sunshine & she’s more grumpy when they’re together. He literally just likes getting on her nerves in the best way. I loved the characters, their humor, the romance and the hot steam this book brewed. The storyline was great and I loved how he originally was using her for his benefit but then changed his mind after spending time with her.
If you like a witchy read with some spice, highly recommend this rom-com!
Expected Release Date: 09/02/2025
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the early access. All thoughts in this review are my own.
This was everything I wanted in a seasonal, witchy read 🧙🏻♀️🧹✨Kelsey Navarro Foster and Aaron Shedlock reminded me how much I love them together, their chemistry behind the mic made this witchy, spicy enemies to lovers romance come alive. It’s funny, fresh, and original with just the right sprinkle of magic 🪄to keep it light while still bringing the heat 🔥 If you’re building your fall TBR, this one absolutely deserves a spot.
I’m going to be completely honest I completely forgot this witchy romcom series existed until I saw it to request on NetGalley. I read the first book in this series what feels like forever ago so I honestly didn’t think we were going to get any more. Then was pleasantly surprised to see it up on NetGalley. Then was ecstatic to jump back into the Sherwood sisters witchy world.
Now I’m going to be honest when I first started this book I was a tad bit confused. Because like I mentioned it had been a hot minute since I read the first book. And even though book 2 follows a different sister. There are still interconnected issues being woven into the entire series. So it took me about a good 30% into the book to really get my grasp of what happened previously. But once I got back in the swing of things I had a fun time reading a witchy romcom filled with enemies-to-lovers, morally gray men, and a close-proximity marriage.
Here’s what I liked about the book: - The magic system! I found the concept to be unique and interesting. - Leona & Erik, I loved them as individuals and I loved them as a couple. Both characters felt extremely relatable and dealing with immense family pressures. I love how even though the burden they both carry is extremely heavy it’s still ok to lean on others and through their road trip they learn they are stronger together.
Now onto the thing that I didn’t enjoy about this book: - Now don’t get me wrong I loved Leona & Erik. However, a lot of there struggles felt repetitive. It was so repetitive that there was multiple times I thought I had re-read the same part multiple times. Only to discover nope we are just doing this again and again. - Also I don’t know about you guys but for a romcom this how a lot of inner monologue. Like I’m all down for inner characters thoughts and feelings but this was just too much and I wanted more inner personal interactions with our main couple. - Which brings me to the pacing. The pacing to me was all over the place. The first 30% was great, then from there until about 70% it was extremely slow. - Lastly the epilogue. I don’t want to spoil anything but I hated how the epilogue was done in book 1 and it seems the author decided to stay on trend and do it exactly like book 1. Like don’t get me wrong I’m all down for a good fourth wall break but it does have to be executed well. And for this book I’m sad to say it wasn’t done well.
Overall, Would I recommend this book? Even though it wasn’t my favorite in the series I’d have to say Yes. It’s an easy quick fun read and I think fans of the first book will be excited to get back into the Sherwood sister’s lives. Lastly big Thank you Berkley Publishing & NetGalley for providing me an ARC to read and review.
I love this fun world Avery's created. Its like our world, but better.
Leona Sherwood is the heir. While not the oldest Sherwood sister, she was chosen to lead the family in the future. The Sherwood family has a great reputation in Witchingdom and the one to lead the family? Responsible, Leona.
So when she decides to go to Vegas to really not be responsible, she really goes all out. As in getting married to a stranger. But it won't last, handfasting doesn't last forever unless special circumstances were involved. And this one does.
Her husband, this stranger? Really isn't a stranger, but a Svensen. Erik Svensen. Who's family is basically the opposite of Leonas family. They have the worse reputation. Anything to get ahead.
But they both have bigger problems than this marriage. The Collective (the bad guys) wants a very special book. One that they have possession of. One that really, really needs to be hid.
Road trip! What do you do when you desperately want a divorce but your husband is saying... no. Its not a simple divorce. Magic in some ways can be very, very binding.
So these two who really have a lot of chemistry are now on a cross-country trip. Alone. Maybe with one bed. Maybe with hilariousness all the way there.
Erik has some reasons. Now, could he be honest? Maybe, but where's the fun in that?
Leona is the heir to her family and isn’t just responsible for their reputation but carrying on their magic. Forced to abide by the rules and always do what’s best for her family she finally throws caution to the wind and ends up married to Erik in Vegas. She thought it would be just one night but it may last forever.
Now a year later time is running out and she needs to end their magical hand fast before it becomes permanent!
This was such a fun and spicy read! While it’s book two in the series it’s easy to start with this story and not feel confused. I love the witchy world Flynn created! The unique society in this world is complex and the magical species are numerous, fascinating, and entertaining. I loved Leona’s inner turmoil! She was determined to end her marriage to Erik but she couldn’t resist caving to her desires over and over again 🤣
If you’re looking for an enjoyable spicy witchy road trip this book is a must read this fall and spooky season!
🎧 Aaron Sherlock and Kelsey Navarro Foster narrated this audio and they made such a fun and entertaining duo. They truly brought these characters to life! Sherlock’s a favorite of mine and I love listening to anything he narrates.

I always love an animal sidekick, and a magical rooster sidekick is so silly and fun ❣️ I loved him 🙂 I love a rivals to enemies ❣️❣️ The banter, the insults, the waiting until the rivals become lovers ❣️ It’s definitely one of my favourite tropes 🩷 I really liked both of the main characters in this one, and I really couldn’t wait for them to get together ❣️ I’m not a huge fan of spice but the spice started almost immediately in this one. I know a lot of people will appreciate that 🤪🤪 This was a very enjoyable, perfect seasonal witchy read to get me excited for Halloween. I really really enjoyed it ❣️❣️ Thank you so much to Avery Dlybn and Berkley Publishing for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review 💕💕
Magic, rivalry, trickery, family obligations, every magical and mythical beast you can imagine, a road trip, and hot times...all put together in a fun, engaging read. Leona meets Erik, and initially, their relationship is the result of manipulation, but things change. That's what a good road trip is for! Lessons learned, hearts expanded, character developments, come together in a fast moving story filled with the results of yhe authors vivid, positive and humorous imagination. The whole book had me swept up in the fun and I was truly entertained. 💖💖💖💖
The dutiful, responsible daughter of Witchingdom’s most powerful witch family ends up secretly Vegas-wedding’d to the scion of her family enemy. Avery Flynn’s second Sherwood Witches series installment has an enemies-to-lovers vibe blended with a fun and magical road trip adventure.
My full review will post at my Instagram page @sophiarose1816 TBA.
Erik is the guy who has been told his whole life that he’s a bad guy by pretty much everyone. Leona is the “perfect” older sister who is shouldering all the family expectations. This is a fast-paced rom com full of adventure, family rivals to lovers, and magic. I personally found parts a little cringey (how they became fake married!) but I read the whole thing in a sitting.
Thanks to NetGalley, Berkley Publishing Group, and the author for the early access.
Morally grey MMC & marriage in Vegas? Of course I was going to eat this one up. This is a quick, lighthearted read that is full of banter, magic and a steamy romance. This can be read as a standalone but both books are so much fun! This one comes out September 2nd.

thank you so much to Berkley for allowing me to be an early reader. All thoughts are my own!
I wanted to read the first book in the series, but didn’t get to it yet. However I jumped at the chance to read this second one for the author’s review team. One thing I noticed right away is that you don’t have to have read the first book in this series. Sure a lot of times even with standalone books within a series you don’t have to read the first book, but further on things might be given away no matter what. And while there might have been a tidbit or two about the first book, really this one kind of took place before and after that one I think? It’s all kind of going on together. All I know is that I have GOT to get back and read the first one to see about this being frozen thing.
So Erik spends the whole book talking about how he is not a good guy, and going on and on about all the bad stuff he does. But you can tell when he explains why he did those things, that really, he is kind of a good guy after all. His main goal is to stop his father who really is a bad guy. To take care of his brother and sister and to protect them from his father.
Leona is the responsible heir, and she will do what she must for her family and to just do what is right. But she is falling for Erik, especially as she finds out that the fake persona he put on in Vegas might actually be more real than even he realizes. She does spend a lot of the book going on about how much she’s attracted to him, and how she can’t let herself give into that. And soon, they are given several situations that push them together. The whole only one bed at the first bed and breakfast they stop at. Then when they stop at the satyr hotel and yeah, the spell put on anyone who goes in there and all the craziness with the wallpaper and things available, the two give in to their wants at that point.
I enjoyed the other magical characters in the story as well. There were trolls, and pixies, and werewolves! While the two have their meet-cute in Vegas, mostly the book doesn’t say where anything takes place, other than they are in fly-over country, and it is Witchingdom. The book has a happy ending, including an epilogue with our happy couple. But also leaves open for the next story. As I said I’ll need to go back and read the first book and I’m ready for book 3, as I think maybe there will be a werewolf?
Only things that kept it at a 4 star instead of 5 for me were that I wanted a little more to the story. It was light and a quick, easy read. But there was a lot of steamy aspects, early on, and throughout. Not that I have a problem with that, I just wanted maybe some more with stories or something, not sure quite what I was missing. It is as I said an easy read, never gets too deeply emotional, but still has the things there needed to make you like these characters and want to find out how things go!

💭What I thought would happen:
Can we all laugh at the fact that I thought this was a lesbian witch book. Yaaa I looked closer…Erik is by no means a hawt lesbian. Sad.
📖What actually happens:
✌🏻Second book 🧚🏽Witches, trolls, faeries, oh my 💋Enemies to lovers 🩷Married in Vegas 🌶️Spicy 🩵Road trip
🗯Thoughts/sassy musings:
I am in full witch mode. I want magic, spells, mythical creatures and mushed between a romance wonder bread sandwich…& this book delivers on that!
This book starts HARD and HOT then put away wet for 40% of the book I was like oh hello gallop to a trot. Just be warned!
I felt like I was missing key pieces of information. This is a second book and maybe I really did need to read the first…oops! 🤭
One thing I can never get passed is when romances talk about her nipples being rolled between his fingers…first off OUCH! I don’t judge nip play but mine are for too sensitive and invert when I read that line. I also kind of imagine evil villains who play with coins rolling on their knuckles instead of nipples and it makes me laugh. I don’t think I’ve written nipple so many times in a review
The second book in the Witchingdom series is here and it follows Leona after she was tricked into marrying Erik Svensen. Now, the only way he will agree to a divorce is if the two of them return an anxiety spell book to his family’s secured facility, forcing the two of them to take off on a road trip together where there are lots of twists, turns, and maybe even some sparks along the way as the two are forced to spend time together.
This was a cute and spicy book with lots of fun banter. While it’s the second book in the series, I think you could definitely read it as a standalone and be ok without reading the first book first. This is a great fall read so add this to your TBR!
🪄Fake Marriage 🪄Enemies to Lovers 🪄Forced Proximity 🪄Dual POV 🪄Witchy Vibes 🪄Perfect for Your Fall TBR
Fun enemies-to-lovers and just in time for the witchy/fall vibes.
Leona Sherwood is the family's heir; it's her curse to be the responsible one. Her family is also one of the most powerful in all of WItchingdom, meaning she never does the unexpected. Until the one time I did.
She married Erik Svenson in a midnight ceremony under a full moon. He's the heir to her family's bitterest enemy. Now he won't agree to a divorce unless they return an ancient spellbook to his family's secured facility.
They set off on a road trip to return the book, and she gets to learn more about Erik as they encounter trolls, nymphs, satyrs, and more. The longer they work together, the more she falls for her husband. Even as she tries to convince herself otherwise.
Thanks so much to the author for this ARC to review.
I really enjoyed this second book in the Sherwood witches paranormal romance series that sees the eldest sister, Leonora, getting accidentally married to the heir of her family's greatest nemesis. When Erik won't agree to a divorce without a condition, the two embark on a forced proximity roadtrip to track down a magical spellbook. Along the way they encounter lots of adventures and of course grow to love one another for real. Spicy and full of humor and emotional depth, this kept me entertained from start to finish and was great on audio too. Highly recommended for fans of authors like Erin Sterling. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and @prhaudio for a complimentary ALC in exchange for my honest review!
Cute urban fantasy cozy romance with the enemies to lovers and he falls first tropes! Lele is the Sherwood heir. Their coven is one of the magically strongest in Witchingdom. Her mom is pushing her to marry a son from one of three other covens with strong magic, but none of these guys interest her. Erik Svenson is the heir to the Svenson coven and definitely not on her mom’s list. He’s the heir to the clan of her family’s bitterest enemies. However, after a night out clubbing with friends Lele, having fun, heads out with Erik to a handfast ceremony that is only supposed to last the night-unless it happens during a full moon. Lele wants a divorce but Erik has other plans as he needs her help to save his siblings from the evil plans of their father.
I enjoyed this one and it grabbed my attention very quickly. Leona is a family heir to a powerful witch family and accidentally marries Erik who is also heir to her family’s rivalry after one night in Vegas. She wants a divorce and he’ll agree if she helps him find and return an ancient spell book to his family’s secured facility. Along their road trip they get into some mini cases but Leona learns more about Erik then what she’s lead to believe. This was just fun and had great banter. It was good for a fall read.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I adored the first book of this series and this one was just as good, maybe a tad better. What’s not to love about an enemies to lovers road trip romance with a ton of magical creatures causing chaos along the way? Lenora is the typical “oldest daughter” though she’s actually 2nd oldest as her status as the Sherwood Family Heir requires her to be more worried about everyone else’s needs. Erick is the perfect foil to her. He’s a bad boy with a heart of gold lying to everyone for a huge plan he’s been working on for years. They work well together, the banter is top tier and the spice is SPICY.
This book was just not for me! It had some of my favorite tropes: enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience, only one bed at the inn, grumpy/sunshine… but I couldn’t suspend my disbelief for any of them. And I wanted to— usually in romances when it feels contrived I’m okay with it! Perhaps it was the narrating perspectives and the voice talking directly to the audience, or the repeating internal thoughts. The novel didn’t take itself too seriously and I could see how people would find it really fun!
When the heirs of two magical witch families meet in Las Vegas, one has an agenda and one is just looking for fun. Then they end up bound by a handfast ceremony, commonly known as a wedding. Riotously funny and outrageously sexy. It's a winner! Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
A series of contrivances with good characters. the road trip aspect was not for me, everything felt silly rather than having any stakes. it's also part of a series so the ending is waved away very casually. makes the whole thing feel unnecessary
DNF during chapter 2. After the first chapter, I wasn’t sure about the writing. But after getting into the second and reading from the male pov, I officially know I will not like this one or the high level of spice I anticipate lol
Thank you to Berkley for providing me with a gifted ebook copy of Head Witch in Charge through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Head Witch in Charge is the second book in the Witchingdom series, with the first being Witcha Gonna Do. I did not read Witcha Gonna Do before reading Head Witch in Charge, and even though there were some things from the first book that were mentioned in this one, I didn't feel like it was enough for me to not be able to follow the story in Head Witch in Charge. But I definitely want to go back and read the first book.
This book is one of those fun kind of paranormal stories, where you are just reading for the enjoyment of it. It's got some great quirky moments (a chicken familiar 🐓 ❤️), a spicy tension-filled romance, magic and spells, and some depth to the story with complicated family relationships.

If you're looking for an entertaining witchy romance for your Fall TBR that is a fast, fun read with lovable characters, then I would definitely recommend Head Witch in Charge. I also loved that the ending possibly sets up the story for the next book, and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
