This Mature-rated danmei/Boys’ Love novel series originally released in Chinese–and coming to the English language for the first time–is a raunchy romantic comedy about an ancient singles club!

Dear Sir...

Lonely, poor, and pushing forty, Wu Xingzi doesn't have much to live for. In fact, the only thing he has going for him is the perfect funeral plot he's picked out for himself... That is, until he stumbles across the Peng Society and their monthly volume of personal ads for gay men.

At first, he's just looking for friendship with like-minded people, but when he finds out that it's customary for members to respond to polite letters with shockingly detailed ink drawings of their, ahem, intimate anatomy, Wu Xingzi quickly gains a new purpose in life: collecting phallic illustrations through the pigeon post!

There's just one problem. His favorite two-dimensional specimen belongs to a man who's intent on thrusting himself into Wu Xingzi's life in a very real, firm, three-dimensional fashion…

The Seven Seas English-language edition of this Mature-rated novel will feature uncensored text and exclusive new art.

Volume 4 ends the BL story set in ancient China that follows the very uneven romance between Wu Xingzi, a middle-aged country clerk, and Guan Shanjin, the only son of Lord Protector and a decorated general in his twenties. They met in a pigeon post club for gay men that exchanged pictures of penises, but the story gained depth from a treason plot and scheming old flames.

The previous book left Guan Shanjin imprisoned, seemingly for treason. But it’s only a ruse to flush out the real mastermind. He thinks he’s being clever, keeping Wu Xingzi in the dark so he won’t be harmed, but the old clerk is cleverer and more determined than Guan Shanjin believes. Not only does Wu Xingzi persuade Bai Shaochang who framed Guan Shanjin, into confessing, he is instrumental in bringing down the mastermind Yan Wenxin, the man he was romantically involved in his youth and who betrayed him back then.

The main story takes about a third of the last volume. All the problems are solved and the bad people get their comeuppances, including Lu Zezhi, the old teacher of Guan Shanjin. It’s a satisfying ending with a happily ever after. Despite the two men being very different, Guan Shanjin genuinely worships his plain and weak middle-aged spouse, and the shy older man flourishes under his care.

The ending is also very different from how the story began. The author notes in her afterword that she set out to write porn, and the first two volumes were mostly about that. But a plot emerged at some point and it pushed the extravagant bedroom scenes to the background. The ending of the story was practically demure compared to how it began.

The rest of the longish volume is extra stories, some of them very long. The best two are the wedding of Wu Xingzi and Guan Shanjin and a story of how they adopt a son. There’s also a longish story about Yan Wenxin who isn’t executed for treason but is given to the Khan of the neighbouring kingdom as a concubine instead.

The rest of the extras are various alternate universe stories, like omega-verse and beast-man ones. These are basically pure porn and I mostly skimmed them. However, it didn’t have a conclusion to the romance of Man Yue, Guan Shanjin’s right hand man, which began in the previous volume. I would’ve liked to read that.

I don’t usually comment on illustrations, but they were constantly in wrong places in this volume, confusing the reader. I don’t know what happened with those here.

All in all, the story improved as it progressed. Wu Xingzi emerged as an interesting character and while Guan Shanjin remained brash and overpowering, he was absolved in his love for Wu Xingzi. The five star rating for this volume is more for the overall story than the conclusion, as it was fairly short in the end and the extras would’ve maybe brought the rating down a little. For porn, the bedroom scenes stretched the imagination a bit too much, but as a romance it was lovely.

Nice ending. 300+ pages of extras and au’s. Three of the drawings are out of order including the wedding illustration which was very disappointing. The order they were placed was barbarians, sick bed, wedding. It should have been wedding, barbarian, sick bed…. Reading the afterward I would have loved to read a Rancui extra! More MY and SY. Even finding out who runs the society would have been fun. Ah well… I will read these again. I loved how Wu Xingzi was described as a needle piercing through cotton. Just perfect. Comfortably soft but sharp when provoked.

"My father used to say that if you beat a child too often, they won't necessarily learn their lesson, but they'll definitely learn how to deceive their superiors and subordinates alike."

description

I came to this volume ready for more court tension, messy romance, and the emotional bite that carried the earlier books. The author has said the whole series grew from the desire to write porn, and this time you really feel it. I enjoy smut when it serves the mood or tips the balance between two characters, but here it takes over the room. About a third of the book follows the main plot and the rest is a long stretch of extras, some set right after the core story and others built as alternate universes. It left me wishing the main arc had been wrapped into books one to three, with this volume free to be a companion collection instead of a loose blend of everything.

Even so, the emotional swings hit with force. Wu Xingzi’s mix of warmth, hesitance, and sharp reading of people pairs well with Guan Shanjin’s loyalty and slow burn intensity. Their connection pulls hard, even when the pacing slides around. The political turns and personal grudges still spark interest, and the characters keep the story grounded when the plot leans on familiar beats or the erotic scenes run long. The prose has good rhythm, though it lingers more than it needs to, and the sensory detail can feel thick. Humor breaks through at the right times, but not always in sync with the mood.

My biggest surprise was the illustration mix up. One scene matched so poorly that I flipped forward and realized three images were swapped. It summed up my experience with this volume: plenty to enjoy, plenty to question, and uneven delivery wrapped in strong emotion. Readers who want deep feelings, messy desire, and heavy sensuality will get their fill, but anyone looking for steady momentum or a tighter story might feel lost in the noise.

Well, that was an interesting end to the most drama filled series I have ever read in my entire life. The tea was piping for an entire 3 and a half books. I kinda skipped all the extra AU stuff since it wasn’t that interesting but otherwise oml I don’t know if anything else I read will ever be as chaotic as this.

Bear with me as I butcher names, for I read this months ago, and just now am writing a review; however, I am too lazy to go to my shelf and look up names. Maybe one day I'll come back and edit this review, but for now, this is what you get:

I love happy endings!

WXZ had figured out that the stranger who's been a new love interest was none other than Guan Shanjin, the general who loves him dearly. ♥️ And because he found out everything, including confronting GSJ about the entire plan of bringing down this imperial POS who has been colliding with enemy territory country leaders to bring down Guan Shanjin. WXZ was not going to sit tight to watch his man be imprisoned for life, so he chose to rebel and save his man, despite his man telling him to stay put.

I love how WXZ got to break free from the clutches of his loneliness. The clutches of his insecurities. To think he loved Mr. Wei from many many years ago so much that he sacrificed 12 years of income, and got a lone of 5 more years after that just so the imperial officer can get his degree and come back to him. The imperial POS lied and deceived WXZ, but WXZ never took it to heart. He truly is so kind. But he took his power back in the most badassery way by going to a young man who was being deceived as well, showing him that, "look... He deceived me, what makes you think you're so special? We are nothing but pawns to him." WZX had found out about
The young man was an accomplice in Incarcerating the general by framing him. The young man later testified and now they had proof to bring down the imperial officer Mr. Wei. The best part is, he never saw it coming!

Mr. Lu gets what he deserves. He truly is such a selfish man, he only wanted to live a luxurious life with GSJ at his feet. He grew bitter and hit WXZ, but WXZ just turned the other cheek and let GSJ take care of it.

Holy moly, the amount of smut written in the entire novel, is insane. In this volume specifically... Hundreds of pages of it, I swear! But many of the extras were cute.
I needed more plot for the omegaverse one. Lol! The set up was so promising!

The amnesia needed better explanation as to how he fell off his horse.

Some illustrations were out of order or is it just me?

3.7/5 🌟

It loses a point for the extras that were largely pants. I am not a fan of monster romance, nor incest and Omegaverse does my head in.

Seven Seas as a Danmei publisher does this thing of ending a penultimate volume on a cliff hanger and then concluding it with two chapters of the final volume.

The ending is adorable, however and manages to sneak in a filthy, lengthy, acrobatic and … errr… squelchy sex scene. Guan shanjing earns bonus point for gifting Wu Shinzi 360 dick pics as a wedding gift.

Some of the extras add to the main story. There is one where they cause national mayhem adopting a son and another where they give a young man a heart attack being in love after ten years together.

Yes. This is porn. But it is so heartwarming seeing a gorgeous top falls for someone plain for a change. And as a fat person I was delighted to find out Man Yue being rotund yet awesome get a gorgeous lover too.

There is more to people than beauty and this smut really drove this point deep …..Penis reference NOT accidental. BE GOOD!!!

For the actual story in this volume, ⭐⭐. Building up to this ending was disappointing. The last volume ended with a cliff hanger, and I waited months to read the ending. I was delighted to see the last volume to be thick, only to find out the story ends in 1/5th of the book!

What’s worse is that most of the conclusion was told from the antagonist’s pov. I had no interest in his perspective, especially since it felt randomly inserted. It felt more like a summary from his side.

I did like how it was adviser Wu who ended up trapping the antagonist. It felt rightly deserved and shows how fierce Wu is when he is serious. He was never weak, he just never had the ambition to react.

Now for the side stories, most of them read as fanfiction from the author herself. I enjoyed the story about them taking in the child and the amnesia trope. Those stories were more inline with my expectation of the ending I had. I actually felt emotional reading Wu's confessions on how much his life has changed and how he will always find his love if anything were to happen to him. Those stories alone was ⭐⭐⭐.

But the rest of the side stories were a guilty pleasure. HOWEVER, the side story with the antagonist was unnecessary! I don't understand the author's obsession with him all of a sudden. Trash.

This series honestly surprised me with how much plot it had. I went in expecting pure smut, but instead I found myself actually getting emotional and even shedding a tear or two at certain moments.

It’s not my all-time favorite, but it’s a solid read if you’re looking for something enjoyable without being too heavy.

And the extras were so much fun. I loved all the AUs we got

1. Girl what was that?

2. The vindication I felt seeing there was an omegaverse chapter after saying "this feels very ABO coded" during every book before this

The love story of Wu Xingzi and Guan Shanjin wraps up in this final volume. There are about 100 - 125 pages of the story and 375 - 400 pages of extras. I have to say, some of the extras are good, but most of them are silly and in alternative universes. There is some additional story about Yan Wenxin that is interesting. Mostly, the rest of the stories are weird erotica.

Wu Xingzi is the key to the ending, as you would expect. No one saw Wu Xingzi being the one to bring down Yan Wenxin, but it was mostly him. We also see Guan Shanjin visiting a cousin and she is dying, so the couple adopts a son. They are now a little family. I think that's an extra, not sure.

Guan Shanjin is still and forever will be a blustering blow hard. An all powerful general who demands he get his way like a toddler.

This story was fun. It's not a serious or deep story. It's quaint and quiet sort of like Wu Xingzi. I'm glad I gave this story a read. It's for entertainment only. Blackegg brought the spicy for the final volume.

I'll probably re-read this at some point when I'm looking for something spicy to read.

This series was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the humor, the plot was engaging, and the overall sweet and fluffy feel of the main couple made this a light, enjoyable read. The idea of the modern trend of sending dick picks being used in a story set in ancient China is very creative and the author did very well with it. Honestly, it was a lot less dirty and more witty than I anticipated (I had heard that this series has more sex scenes than other danmei available in English). Overall, I rated the series 4 stars.

The final volume had a few pictures out of order, which was rather distracting. But the real reason why I gave the final volume 3 stars was because of the extra chapters. Compared to the main story, the extras felt rushed in terms of plot and had significantly more sex scenes than the main story did. They ended up feeling repetitive and boring, which was a bit of a let down. If AUs and smut are what you want, the extras will probably be more suited to your tastes than they were to mine.

‼️⚠️⛔️ Hear me out. what. in the wattpad. were those AU extras. the main story and the extras about their future? I enjoyed that, 3.5✨ each. but the AU extras???????? I've been reading fanfics for years, I'm not unfamiliar with those prompts, but I had to skip them, for my mental health. They are TOO MUCH ‼️‼️⚠️⚠️ so yeah, I enjoyed like 55% of the final book and mostly skipped the rest: 2✨ PD: originally I had a fan translated version without the extras, so I had to get the 4th Seven Seas volume to read them. that was a mistake, learn from my mistakes 🥴

Two words:
LEWD and ROMANTIC.

This entire series has just been a hilarious, sex-crazed, passionate affair and the plot was weak but honestly still kept me interested.
I would definitely read this authors works again.
I was utterly shocked by the calibre of smut included in just these four books but honestly it was entertaining.
I’m so glad our boys got the ending they wanted and may they live in glorious ecstasy and everlasting peace

The last book ends very nicely with wedding and even a child for their story. The court battle comes to an end and finally Yan gets the ending he deserves.
Our couple is also finally happy. Their marriage was really cute to read. I love all the extras & AUs that were included in the book. There are so many side characters whose story I would love to read. Especially Man Yue & Su, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t any extras for them. But, nevertheless a good & light series to read.

Only 126 pages are actual story. The rest are AUs. I really wish I had known this before I got the book.

Ending was rushed. Took me 3 months just to read the AUs, which some are good. Some are bad.

I wish there was more about Man Yu’s lover. The end of that subplot was disappointing.

I honestly liked this series. It was a nice light read that gave me a nice break in between some more emotionally taxing series. I found this lighthearted, funny, and just generally enjoyable. I didn't take it too seriously and actually binged this a lot faster than I expected.
